  i am trying paperclip for the first time and followed this tutorial all is well until i use styles. this is the code has_attached_file :photo, :url => "/uploads/products/:id/:style/:basename.:extension", :path => ":rails_root/public/uploads/products/:id/:style/:basename.:extension", :styles => { :thumb=> "100x100#" } the error i see on the console is [paperclip] An error was received while processing: #<Paperclip::NotIdentifiedByImageMagickError: C:/DOCUME~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/stream,2956,1.jpg is not recognized by the 'identify' command.> what does this mean? I have no idea what it means. Should i install this ImageMagick? I tried installing it as a plugin as per this page. This also returns an error that "plugin not found". what am i missing here?

• ASP.NET MVC: Problem generating thumbnails...need help!

  Ok, so i'm new to asp.net mvc and i'm trying to make a web application photo gallery. I've posted once on here about this issue i am having of trying to generate thumbnails on-the-fly on the page instead of the actual full-size images. Basically, the functionality i am looking for is to be able to have thumbnails on the page and then be able to click the images to see the full-size version. I am pulling the images and images info from an XML file. So, i did this so i could display them dynamically and so it would be easier to make changes later. Later, i am going to add functionality to upload new images to specific galleries (when i figure out how to do that as well). • Change input text to regular text on blur and ability to edit jQuery

  I'm creating a form where I'm eliminating the use of a save button. The form is made up of input text boxes and textareas. After the user enters data into the input field, I want to trigger an onBlur function and change the input into a span that contains the information that the user entered. I also want to have the ability to edit this information, so if the user clicks on the newly created span with text, it will turn back into the input field with the current information for their editing pleasure. For reference, I'm looking to have a functionality pretty much like on editing a photo title on Flickr. If possible, I'd also like to have the textbox show "saving..." for half a second after the blur to reflect interaction with server.

  I am developing an Twitter4J web application in Google App Engine/Java. I need to show two lists. One is Twitter friends and other is followers. With photo and screen name. It is working fine for people who have 20-30 followers and friends. But it gave me DeadlineExceededException when I try a user who has 150+ followers and friends. GAE throws this exception if web request take time more than 30 seconds. So what techniques I can adopt to avoid this exception. Should I generate two AJAX calls for each of my list. After page loads. So that every call will have its own 30 secs limit? Or what else you think? I am gone make it. Please help.

  Hi all, I have a web site that allows users to upload images of cars and I would like to put a privacy filter in place to detect registration plates on the vehicle and blur them. The blurring is not a problem but is there a library or component (open source preferred) that will help with finding a licence within a photo? Caveats; I know nothing is perfect and image recognition of this type will provide false positive and negatives. I appreciate that we could ask the user to select the area to blur and we will do this as well, but the question is specifically about finding that data programmatically; so answers such as 'get a person to check every image' is not helpful. This software method is called 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' in the UK but I cannot see any implementations of it as libraries. Any language is great although .Net is preferred.   Hi, I have a desktop application that needs to upload/download images to/from service computer over TCP Protocol. At first, I stored images in file system, but I need to in MS SQL DB to compare which solution is better. Number of images is over half a million. I don't know yet will there be any limitation on size of a photo. If you have done smth like that, please, write what your opinion upon this question. Which one is faster, more safe? Which of them works better with this number of photos? If I'll store on DB, do I need to store images apart from all other tables which I use for my application and which type works better - image or varbinary on DB?..and so on. Thank you.

  Hi. Based on a php app we've tried to developp our own webapp in vbscript. All is working well. The camera starts, etc.. The problem we're left with is the following: the flash API is streaming the content of the video to a webpage, this page saves the photo as a jpg.   Hi, all I'm writing an Android application with multiple Tabs. The content of each tabs is determined by XMLs on the Internet, and it could be WebView for HTML rendering, GridView for photo displaying, etc. I'm going to delay downloading of those XML until the tab is clicked. Upon clicking the application will download corresponding XML from the Internet, and then choose suitable View for it. Currently I have written a MyViewDelegate and use TabSpec.setContent() to set the spec pointing to MyViewDelegate: spec = tabHost.newTabSpec(tabName[i]); intent = new Intent().setClass(this, HomeActivity.class); spec.setIndicator(title[i]); spec.setContent(new MyViewDelegate(this, tabName[i])); tabHost.addTab(spec); My problem is, after MyViewDelegate is required to draw, how can I switch to WebView/GridView and initialize it? • Migrating a Large amount of data from old publishing site to new site

  Hi, I am currently in the process of creating a new news/publishing site on the Movable Type platform. There are around 20 or so sites with 20,000+ rows of data to be moved/aggregated to ~8 sites (we have a number of location specific sites and are going to aggregate the content from these into 1 single site for each niche). We have discussed how to do this and came to the conclusion that it would probably be better to hire somebody to do it (I could probably do it, but i'm limited on time and am sure that a specialist would be more efficient). So my questions to you guys are: 1) What kind of skill set should we look for in an applicant? 2) There will be a large amount of input from our side... is getting somebody to work remotely out of the question? 3) How long would a task like this traditionally take (I know this question is very subjective, but an estimation would be awesome)? 4) Do you have any recommendations for firms who would be able to take on a large task like this?   Hello I would like to know if there is any API feature that can tell me which users liked my application page. I know that it is possible to check if a user is a fan of any given Page using page.isFan verification or to get the number of fans. But is it possible to get the fans' User ID? If so, is it possible to get that data ordered by the date they became fans of the page? For exemple usign FQL i can get the user ID of someone o like an facebook object like post or photo. http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fql/like Can i do this for the people who liked my page? • can i change the black background of an iphone app?

  My app is structured like this, a single MainWindow with window backgroundColor to white(which doesn't appear anywhere anyway), and in this nib i have a UINavigationController which doesn't seems to have a backgroundColor. Any view controller is added from code and made from code and they have a gray background. What happens is that when i rotate the iphone and the views are rotating as well, i see a black background under my views. Can this be changed? It looks ugly especially if i have a photo that is rotating in the same time with my gray background.

  I have a working implementation using Grand Central dispatch queues that (1) opens a file and computes an OpenSSL DSA hash on "queue1", (2) writing out the hash to a new "side car" file for later verification on "queue2". I would like to open multiple files at the same time, but based on some logic that doesn't "choke" the OS by having 100s of files open and exceeding the hard drive's sustainable output. Photo browsing applications such as iPhoto or Aperture seem to open multiple files and display them, so I'm assuming this can be done. I'm assuming the biggest limitation will be disk I/O, as the application can (in theory) read and write multiple files simultaneously. Any suggestions? TIA

  I'm still learning SQL and my brain is having a hard time with this one. Say I have 3 tables: teams players and teams_players as my link table All I want to do is run a query to get each team and the players on them. I tried this: SELECT * FROM teams INNER JOIN teams_players ON teams.id = teams_players.team_id INNER JOIN players ON teams_players.player_id = players.id But it returned a separate row for each player on each team. Is JOIN the right way to do it or should I be doing something else? ----------------------------------------- Edit Ok, so from what I'm hearing, this isn't necessarily a bad way to do it. I'll just have to group the data by team while I'm doing my loop. I have not yet tried the modified SQL statements provided, but I will today and get back to you. To answer the question about structure - I guess I wasn't thinking about the returned row structure which is part of what lead to my confusion. In this particular case, each team is limited to 4 players (or less) so I guess the structure that would be helpful to me is something like the following: teams.id, teams.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, 1 Team ABC 1 Jim 2 Bob 3 Ned 4 Roy 2 Team XYZ 2 Bob 3 Ned 5 Ralph 6 Tom

• change extension obfuscate XML file contents

  I have SlideShowPro, a Flash photo app that loads an XML file with the paths to the images. Now I don't want people to go sniff in the XML file to get to the images. I tried changing the file images.xml to spacer.gif and it seems to work fine. But I would like to know if I would run into any problems changing the extension. btw already used a few techniques to make the images not so accessible, I know there is no bulletproof solution. Obfuscating the XML file is just another trick..

  Hello guys, I am sending a SOAP request to my server and getting the response back. sample of the response string is shown below: <?xml version = '1.0' ?> <env:Envelope xmlns:env=http:////www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelop . .. .. <env:Body> <epas:get-all-config-resp xmlns:epas="urn:organization:epas:soap"> ^M ... ... <epas:property name="Tom">12</epas:property> > > <epas:property name="Alice">34</epas:property> > > <epas:property name="John">56</epas:property> > > <epas:property name="Danial">78</epas:property> > > <epas:property name="George">90</epas:property> > > <epas:property name="Luise">11</epas:property> ... ^M </env:Body? </env:Envelop> What I noticed in the response is that there is an extra character shown in the body which is "^M". Not sure if this could be the issue. Note the ^M shown! when I tried parsing the string returned from the server to get the names and values using the code sample: elements = minidom.parseString(xmldoc).getElementsByTagName("property") myDict = {} for element in elements: myDict[element.getAttribute('name')] = element.firstChild.data But, I am getting this error: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'data'. May be its something to do with the "^M" shown on the xml response back! Any ideas/comments would be appreciated, Cheers

• Server side form validation and POST data

  Hi, I have a user input form here: http://www.7bks.com/create (Google login required) When you first create a list you are asked to create a public username. Unfortuantely currently there is no constraint to make this unique. I'm working on the code to enforce unique usernames at the moment and would like to know the best way to do it. Tech details: appengine, python, webapp framework What I'm planning is something like this: first the /create form posts the data to /inputlist/ (this is the same as currently happens) /inputlist/ queries the datastore for the given username. If it already exists then redirect back to /create display the /create page with all the info previously but with an additional error message of "this username is already taken" My question is: Is this the best way of handling server side validation? What's the best way of storing the list details while I verify and modify the username? As I see it I have 3 options to store the list details but I'm not sure which is "best": Store the list details in the session cookie (I am using GAEsessions for cookies) Define a separate POST class for /create and post the list data back from /inputlist/ to the /create page (currently /create only has a GET class) Store the list in the datastore, even though the username is non-unique. Thank you very much for your help :) I'm pretty new to python and coding in general so if I've missed something obvious my apologies. Tom PS - I'm sure I can eventually figure it out but I can't find any documentation on POSTing data using the webapp appengine framework which I'd need in order to do solution 2 above :s maybe you could point me in the right direction for that too?
