  • How to search Jar files using Windows Search?

    I believe back when we were on Win2K, Windows Search would search through Jar files to locate specific classes but this doesn't appear to work in XP. Does anyone know how to enable this in XP? Note, to do the search in Win2K we just entered *.jar for the files and "ClassABC" for the search text string and the search would return any jar files containing class files where the title contained "ClassABC".

The netdom tool will not work on a computer not joined to a domain. I've tried setting the hostname from the registry, but I was wondering if there was another way from the command-line.

  • Sending Mail using PHP on IIS 7 - Windows 2008 Server

    Hi, I'm having trouble sending mail using PHP mail() on IIS 7 using Windows 2008 Server. The server is dedicated, thus I have full control over my machine. php.ini looks fine - ([mail function] is configured) I don't get any error from mail() (with the right parameters of course) btw - I got ASP and ASP.NET sending mails without any problems.   • Windows Mobile: "My network card connects to" registry settings

    Can anybody please tell me the registry setting(s) that are affected in Windows Mobile 6.1 when a user selects Start - Settings - Connections - Wi-Fi and then changes the value of the "My network card connects to" drop down list on the "Network Adapters" tab? I have a device that seems to default this to "The Internet" when in fact the Wi-Fi connects to the corporate network and I would like to be able to change this programatically rather than expecting 250+ users to have to do it manually every time they reboot their devices. Thanks.

  • Writing exceptions in multihreaded windows service to event log

    I have a multithreaded windows service that will unpredictably stop running once every 24 hours or so. I am writing to the event log and that's going through just fine, but whenever the service crashes there are no messages in the event log (even that the service stopped, despite having AutoLog=true). Is there a way to have uncaught exceptions written straight to the log, even if they aren't in the original thread?

  • Can the Windows Phone 7 Series emulator be made to run on Windows XP?

    Well thats all there is to it...is this possible? I understand that officially it's not supported but has anyone figured it out? I have some work to do where XP would be the preferred platform. I would expect that users of the actual device are not required to use Windows 7 so it stands to reason that this can be done. Any poitners in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.   • Windows Explorer Context Menu Integration, get file that was right clicked on

    I've already figured out how to add a menu item to the right click context menu of the windows explorer using the registry. I currently have it set to launch my application when my menu item is clicked. However, I want to know if there is a way to know what file is was right clicked on. I thought it would have been sent as a command line argument to the launched program, but it's not. Any ideas?

  • Windows Mobile Sounds Not using Device Speaker

    I have bunch of Symbol MC 70 devices. They run Windows Mobile 5. Most of these work just fine, but I have one that is sending the sounds (alarms and such) to the phone rather than the speaker on the device. (The sounds play in the speaker used for listening to a phone call) Does anyone know how to route this back to the actual phone speaker?

How can I do the same thing, with custom headings ("Machine status", "Memory", etc.) and custom toolbar buttons ("Create virtual machine")? I can't seem to find any documentation for this.

  • Programmatically change the icon of the executable

    I am developing an application called WeatherBar. Its main functionality is based on its interaction with the Windows 7 taskbar — it changes the icon depending on the weather conditions in a specific location. The icons I am using in the application are all stored in a compiled native resource file (.res) — I am using it instead of the embedded resource manifest for icons only. By default, I modify the Icon property of the main form to change the icons accordingly and it works fine, as long as the icon is not pinned to the taskbar. When it gets pinned, the icon in the taskbar automatically switches to the default one for the executable (with index 0 in the resource file). After doing a little bit of research, I figured that a way to change the icon would be changing the shortcut icon (as all pinned applications are actually shortcuts stored in the user folder). But it didn't work. I assume that I need to change the icon for the executable, and therefore use UpdateResource, but I am not entirely sure about this. My executable is not digitally signed, so it shouldn't be an issue modifying it. What would be the way to solve this issue?

    If you need to extract an icon from a program file or other type of file (such as .dll files), there are many free tools available that make the task easy. However, very few will extract high quality icon images from the files. Most free icon extraction tools will extract smaller icon image sizes, such as 16×16, 32×32, or 48×48 pixels. Some icons come in larger sizes, such as icons used in Windows. There is a free, small utility, called BeCyIconGrabber, that allows you to view and save icons and cursors of any size contained in .exe, .dll, .icl, .ocx, .cpl, .src, .ico, and .cur files. You can save the extracted icons individually as a .png file, .bmp file, .ico file, or .cur file, or in groups within resource libraries, i.e., .dll or .icl files.   • New features in TFS Demo Setup 1.0.0.2

Feature 1 – Set up Work Items Queries as Team Favorites The task board looks cooler when the team favourite work item queries show up on the task board. The demo setup console application now has the ability to set up the work item queries as team favorites for you. If you want to see how you can add Team Favorites programmatically, refer to this blogpost here. Image 1 – Task board without Team Favorites Let’s see how the TFS Demo Setup application sets-up team favorites as part of the run… Open up the DemoDictionary.xml and you should be able to see the new node <TeamFavorites> this accepts multiple <TeamFavorite>. You simply need to specify the <Type> as Query and in the <Name> specify the name of the work item query that you would like added as a favorite. Image 2 – Highlighting the TeamFavorites block in DemoDictionary.xml So, when the demo set up application is run with the above config, work item queries “Blocked Tasks” and “Open Impediments” are added as team favorites. They then show up on the task board, as highlighted in the screen shot below. Image 3 – Team Favorites setup during the TFS demo setup app execution Feature 2 – Choose what you want to setup and exclude the rest I had a great feature request come in requesting the ability to exclude parts of the setup at the sole discretion of the executioner. To accommodate this, I have added an attribute with each block, the attribute “Run” accepts “true” or “false”. If you set the flag to true then at the time of execution that block would be considered for setup and if you set the flag to false, the block will be ignored during the setup. So, lets look at an example below… The attribute "Run” is set to true for TeamSettings, Team Favorites, TeamMembers and WorkItems. So, all of these would be setup as part of the demo setup application execution. Image 4 – New Attribute Run added to all blocks in DemoDictionary.xml If I did not want to recreate the team and did not want to add new work items but only wanted to add favorites and team members to the existing team “AgileChamps1” then I could simple run the application with below DemoDictionary.xml. Note – TeamSettings Run=”false” and WorkItems Run=”false”. Image 5 – TeamFavorites and TeamMembers set as true and others set to false Feature 3 – Usability Improvement If you try and assign a work item to a team member that does not exist then the application throws a nasty exception. This behaviour has now been changed, upon adding such a work item, the work items will be created and not assigned to any user. The work item id will be printed to the console making it simple for you to assign the work item manually. As you can see in the screen shot below, I am trying to assign the work item to a user “Tarun” and a user “v2” both are *not valid users in my team project collection* so the tool creates the work items and provides me the work item id and lets me know that since the user is invalid the work item could not be assigned to the user. Better user experience ae Image 6 – Behaviour if work item assigned to users are in valid users in team project That’s about it for the current release.     A vendor is attempting to map and preserve a network drive using nt authority/system; so it stays persistent when the interactive session of the server is lost. They were able to do this on one server (Windows 2008 R2) but not a second computer (also Windows 2008 R2). C:\Windows\system32>net use q: \\netapp1\share1 System error 1808 has occurred. The account used is a computer account. Use your global user account or local user account to access this server. C:\Windows\system32> I am unsure on how to set up a "machine account mapping" which will preserve the drive letter of the Netapp path being mapped, so that the service account running a Windows service can continue to access the share after interactive logon has expired on the server. Since they were able to do this on one server but not another, I'm not sure how to troubleshoot the problem? Any suggestions?
