• How to toggle wifi / bluetooth in Macbook Air with Windows 7 installed

  I'm writing this on a MacBook Air 13" (the ones just released), but I have a problem. BootCamp provides no easy way of turning off the bluetooth or wifi radios, and nor are there any hotkey combinations on the keyboard, nor any hard or soft switches on the body to toggle these radios. As I'll be travelling a lot with this machine, what's the best way for me to comply with the cabin service crews' instructions and disable the radios before takeoff, and reenable them after landing?

• Ubuntu Connect Button Disabled, cannot connect

  I'm trying to connect to my school network from Ubuntu 12. The network is WPA encrypted and I can connect just fine if the network manager establishes a connection automatically. However, when I get disconnected and try to reconnect a username and password prompt pops up. The credentials are already stored and are autofilled in correctly, but the Connect button is disabled so I can't actually connect to the network. What can I do? The only guess I've found so far is the password is too short and Ubuntu is expecting a full WPA key. I don't administer the school network though so I certainly can't change that.

• Unable to share internet by using HOSTEDNETWORK after installing AVAST recently

  I was able to share my laptop's internet with my smartphone by using this command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork". But when I installed Avast in my Windows 8 OS, I am able to start the hostednetwork as before and my smartphone also finds the virtual AP but still I can't use internet on the smartphone. It's like the internet sharing has been disabled by the Antivirus. How do I tell Avast that its okay to use the hostednetwork?

Is there a way I could link their hardware or processing power or whatever together over wifi and use one as like a central computer? • WLC 4400. Get IP

  I have three SSID. one is a guest network and I'm having problems with lease times. Its set for web authentication so it passes IPs out even if someone doesn't try and authenticate. Is there a way to get that IP back and not hand another to that mac for a period of time? Poor planning and we didn't allocate enough address space, and we are sandwitched. We could go with another address, but we would have to reconfig lots. since its guest its vlan'd with no access to anthing but the firewalls. would have to change ACLs and routes and interfaces. if it isn't possible we will just have to go that route, just thought there might be an easier solution. session timeout is enabled with 1 hr lease time is set to 4 hrs. no helper DHCP and internal DHCP is set with the space split across three WLCs (60 waps split across those as well).

• Lost support for Web Access on Verizon BlackBerry World Edition

  Hello all, I believe that some silliness has occurred with my blackberry after a OS upgrade. I have 2010 Blackberry world edition phone, purchased off a friend who went iPhone, that at first worked with web on the Verizon network. When i connected it to my PC to transfer contacts, it prompted for an OS upgrade, which I performed. Post-Upgrade I have found that i can no longer access any of the web services: eg. AppWorld, Email, Twitter, Browser. And they all state that i need to upgrade my account to gain access. I had a Storm previous to this that worked fine, and at the VZ store they told me this device is no longer supported (new in 2010 though), and they got me a free "upgrade" to the Blackberry flip. What i could use help with is finding a source stating it is discontinued or a guide that will help me re-enable the web features. I can provide further info later if needed (currently at work with the flip, the WorldEdition is at home).

  I bought a new PC with the AsRock Z77 Extreme 4m motherboard, since this has no WLAN, I extracted the WLAN card from my old PC, a Ralink RT 2571 WF, an connected it to the new board. I downloaded the driver from http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/support.php?sn=500 (the RT257x USB one) and installed it. In the device manager, an unknown device shows up, but if I tell it to search its driver, it does not find it (searching in the whole C partition). The Ralink Diagnostic Test says that the WLAN Card is disabled. I'm using Windows 7 64bit professional. Can anyone suggest me a solution to get my WLAN running?

The WI-FI is owned by the landlady and connects to the Internet. I know it should be possible to be connected both to the Internet through WI-FI and to my other computers and gadgets through the LAN because sometimes it works, but sometimes when I connect the ethernet cable the WI-FI disconnects and I wonder why?   I'm having frequent wifi disconnects on my Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch laptop. I got this laptop 2 months back and it has been happening ever since about 3-5 times a day and 10 times a week on average. I've Frontier Fios internet. Power connected or not does not matter. Once I get disconnected, I try below to connect again in that order: turn Airplane mode on and off, troubleshoot network problems windows troubleshooter), restart the laptop I'd find that the WiFi adapter would get disabled and sometimes windows troubleshooting would help but more than often I'd end up restarting the laptop. A week back, I upgraded my wifi network adapter drivers (now Intel, version 15.5.6.48, 10/3/2012). I still get disconnected frequently but turning Airplane mode on and off gets me connected again. So the driver update did help. Windows 8 is updated. • How do I connect a laptop running Windows 7 to an Android phone using WiFi Direct?

  From where I am sitting, Windows 7 does not appear to support WiFi Direct connections to Android mobile devices. Specifically, turning on WiFi Direct on my Samsung Galaxy S II does not make the device visible as a potential WiFi network connection. Windows 8 is said to support WiFi Direct, but I have no desire to upgrade at this time. I have successfully set up ad hoc WiFi connections between the S II and my laptop before, but as you may be aware, these are not the same as WiFi Direct. Before posting this question, I searched [ "Windows 7" "WiFi Direct" ] and variations thereof, and dutifully slogged through dozens of lame or irrelevant responses on various forums, badly made YouTube videos, and probable Trojan horse distribution sites. If someone out there knows how to do this, it's buried in the noise.

  I own a small private security services business. Some of my clients require 2-10 security officers per location. I'm trying to think outside the box in order to solve my communications problem. I'd rather not buy or lease hf radios or voip systems at the current rates.   I know it is possible to create a sofware AP in windows 7 using command prompt: netsh wlan set hostednetwork ... But is it possible to set such a network not to broadcast its SSID? I realize that this does not gain any security - or may even make the system more secure, but I am not asking about security here. I want to know if it is possible, through the netsh command interface, to hide the SSID. If my client wants to hide the SSID, then I will make them aware of security implications, but in the end it is their decision.

• What can I do to configure my SSH such that it pauses for a flaky connection?

  I run ssh from OSX to a Ubuntu box - under home WIFI, everything works perfectly. However, when I ssh from certain external networks, ssh may be working fine for a minute or two and then drop due to a flaky network (diagnosed by pinging 8.8.8.8). How can I set up ssh so that it simply waits/pauses rather than drop (when dropping, I have to setup my development environment from scratch - a big hassle). EDIT When I say a bad connection, I mean, for example, ping 8.8.8.8 will work fine for a while, and then fail for 40-50 pings, and then come back on again.

• iPhone 3G can't see any WiFi networks, ever

  I've got WiFi turned on in the settings, and ask before connect turned off. My iPhone 3G should see several WiFi networks, but it lists none. It also does not list my own network, which my computers see just fine. It has worked earlier but stopped working recently (possibly because of or at the same time of other trouble (which a restore solved)). The iPhone is not jailbroken. The SSID is not hidden, uses WPA2. It also finds no WiFi networks when I'm at a friend's house. His iPhone 2G sees several WiFi networks, including his own. When I use the manual entry method, specifying my home SSID and the proper WPA2 passkey, then click join, the iPhone says couldn't find that network. Same at my friend's place, with his SSID and passkey. I've just backed up my iPhone, then restored it, to see if refreshing the firmware would help. It didn't change anything. Is my iPhone broken? How can I fix this?

• How do you use Time Capsule for MAC controlled Internet?

  I'm using an Internet Provider that requires a username and password to log in; the prompt shows up as soon as you open a web browser. Because of this, I can only have one device online at a time. How can I get my Time Capsule to essentially log in as the user and allow other devices to connect through it. My Time Capsule has worked with other ISPs that don't require the user log in, but I recently moved. I may be wrong about how the ISP is allowing access, I wasn't sure how to describe the problem.   My friend having problems with her laptop and I am trying to help her via SMS. She can't get her laptop connected to the internet via the Ethernet connection and there is no WiFi in the area. Could it be because her WiFi is switch on, she is using an acer aspire. If she manually switches it off could that allow the ethernet connecttion to work? Or is it a missing driver? I want to avoid users bypassing Internet access policies by concurently connect to LAN and 3G/Hotspot. We have many developers and they have local administrator rights on workstations. Developers should be able to connect virutual networks (VMware/VirutalPC/Hyper-V/VirutalBox). Other users should be able to use only one network connection concurently.
