• Game/Application menu as a central part of the game/application

  I am developing a Java application, well, it's actually a small game. I want to build up the application as follows: when it starts, a window should appear which has a menu with four choices: 'Start game', 'Options', 'Highscores' and 'Quit'. If you then click game, the game starts, preferrably in the same window, if you click options, well you know the drill. How should I program this? At the moment, I'm considering using a CardLayout, but I'm not sure this is the right way to do this. Do you guys maybe have another proposition?

• Svn log - svn: '.' is not a working copy

  I'm getting "svn: '.' is not a working copy" when i use the svn log command. I know that i need a working copy for the log command to work but can this be done directly on a repository? My goal is to display the information (change history) of a repository. I think updating the working copy whenever i need the log information is not a good solution. Is there an alternative solution to this or updating a working copy every time i need to log is the only way to go? Thanks in advance.

• Glassfish v3 Domain Output Log is not ending after the netbeans debug is stopped

  I would like to know if anybody is experiencing the problem on endless if log that is too long when Netbeans Debugging session is stopped? We use java logging in our web application but if I stop the debug, suddenly in the Output Glassfish v3 Domain window, there are a lot of log that is being dump. The log would last so long, that I need to click the Stop the Server because if I don't the Netbeans logger would consume too much memory that makes it too slugish later. I am not sure how long until the log stop but it last for minutes. Any ideas here?

  Hi, Coming from java, being familiar with logback I used to do try { ... catch (Exception e) { log("Error at X", e); } I would like the same functionality of being able to log the exception and the stacktrace into a file. How would you recommend me implementing this? Currently using boto logging infrastructre, boto.log.info(...) I've looked at some options and found out I can access the actual exception details using this code: import sys try: 1/0 except: exc_type, exc_value, exc_traceback = sys.exc_info() traceback.print_exception(exc_type, exc_value, exc_traceback) I would like to somehow get the string print_exception() throws to stdout so that I can log it. • Unable to retrieve the complete description string of the event log record

  Hi All, I have an MFC application that reads and displays event log records using the ::ReadEventLog() API. The problem is with reading the "Description" message string of the event log record. The MFC application is unable to read the complete "Description" message string and displays only some part of it. However the Windows System Event Log Viewer reads and displays the complete "Description" message string correctly. I have ensured that my MFC application reads the entire "Description" message string by retrieving all the strings as provided by the "NumStrings" and "StringOffset" member variables of the EVENTLOGRECORD structure and merging all of them. Also as mentioned in MSDN my application loads the Source Name specific message library file (whose path is specified in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application[SourceName]) that further contains additional message string information and merges it with the earlier read strings. I am still unable to get the entire "Description" message string. Please provide any help towards resolving the issue. Regards, Santosh.

  I am a meganoob in iPhone Application programming. All I want to do is make an application with a single button. When you press the button, it plays an audio file. The button is just two images, one for the normal state and one for the pressed state. I have no clue how to get from point A to point B, it seems so straightforward in web design, why can't it be like that for this too? Anyone out there willing to drop some hints?

• Alter the cruisecontrol log with XSLTLogPublisher

  We build our project from CruiseControl. We have a ant script running some exec commands, and the output of this is placed in the CDATA part of that message, and its priority is set to "info". Now I have created an XSL that modifies this priority depending on the CDATA output, so it creates a new logfile that I want CruiseControl to use. I tried to do this by using XSLTLogPublisher tag like this <xsltlogpublisher directory="${log.dir}" outfile="${logname}" xslfile="${transform}" /> But it doesn't seem to work. No error is logged from cruisecontrol no changes are done in the log file, might it be that cruisecontrol have problems transforming its own log, or are the publishers invoked after the actual log is published as a web page? Can anyone provide some sort of solution to my problem?

• Export Failed Element Log(s) after deliver?

  When a deliver has been performed I can rightlick an entry in the GUI version/element log and it displays me a popup with the element log. Quite handy. I now have a delivery with about 25 failed ones and a couple of hundred OK's. Sadly I can not sort on the column "status" so I have to make screenshots wherever I find a [!] to sit together with the specific team to find out if it is really ok to not deliver those. It would however be handy to have this list of element logs from a deliver so that I do not have to make screenshots or copy the contents of the popup box one by one but just have a list of the failed ones with the element log. Is there a way to export the element logs from a deliver (so the the ones that show up when you rightclick and choose "Display Element Log") and/or only the ones that gave failures?

• Writing exceptions in multihreaded windows service to event log

  I have a multithreaded windows service that will unpredictably stop running once every 24 hours or so. I am writing to the event log and that's going through just fine, but whenever the service crashes there are no messages in the event log (even that the service stopped, despite having AutoLog=true). Is there a way to have uncaught exceptions written straight to the log, even if they aren't in the original thread?

  I'm currently taking the MS SQL 2K5 Admin course at a local college and ran into a problem with the Log Shipping part. My setup is the following: Windows 7 x64 SQL 2005 SP3 2 SQL server instances on the same machine Log Shipping settings: Performed full then log back up of Primary Manually restore on Secondary in STANDBY MODE Insert a new record into the table Set up Log Shipping on Primary using SQL Authenication login to connect to the Secondary Set up timers and copy destination on Secondary Monitoring instance not being used I set up a shared folder for WORKGROUP so both instances on the machine can read & write to it. I can see transaction logs generated and copied as defined by the Transaction Shipping wizard. However, the specified table on the Secondary instance is not updating.

• Chrome Extension - Console Log not firing

  I'm starting to learn to make my own Chrome Extensions, and starting small. At the moment, I'm switching from using the alert() function to console.log() for a cleaner development environment. For some reason, console.log() is not displaying in my chrome console logs. However, the alert() function is working just fine.   I have a database which is running under Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Now, I have seen, that the log of the database (ldf-file) is growing to big size. The database-file (mdf) has a size of 630MB and the log-file has a size of 12GB. I ask me now, what the reason for this can be. Is there a tool which let me seeing into the log where I can see, what is the reason for this big size? What can I do to prevent that the log is growing to this big size?

• Excel techniques for perfmon csv log file analysis

  I have perfmon running against several servers, where I'm outputting to a .csv file data like CPU %time, memory bytes free, hard disk I/O metrics like s/write and writes/s. The ones graphing the SQL servers are also collecting SQL stats. The web servers are collecting .Net relevant stuff. I am aware of PAL, and used it as a template of what data to capture based on server type actually. I just don't think the output it generates is detailed or flexible enough - but it does a pretty remarkable job of parsing logs and making graphs. I'm borderline incompetent with Excel, so I'm hoping to be directed to some knowledge of how to take a perfmon output .csv and mine it in Excel to produce some numbers that are meaningful to me as a sysadmin. I could of course just pick a range of data and assemble a graph out of that and look for spikes and trends, but I'm convinced there is some technique to this that makes it more manageable than looking at a monsterous spreadsheet of numbers and trying to make graphs of it. Plus, it's pretty time consuming and not something I can do as a "take a glance at the servers" sort of routine. I'm graphing CPU, disk use, network b/sec, etc. in Cacti as well, which is nice for seeing big trends. The problem is that it is 5 minute averages, so a server could have a problem but it's intermittent and washes out in a 5 min average. What do you do with perfmon data that I could learn from?

  I'm managing several tomcat instances (aprox 30-35) and looking for some console to centralize the logs. I tried php-syslog-ng before (no with tomcat), and found it useful. I would like that these software would have some of these features: -Syntax highlight according to the severity of the exceptions. -Tree view for stack traces and nested exceptions. Bonus point: -Alarm when certain pattern is matched.

  I have quite a few of these in Apache logs piling up every day: [Mon Jun 09 20:42:58 2014] [error] [client 180.153.214.181] File does not exist: /home/user/public_html/ajax.googleapis.com, referer: http://www.mysite.com//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js I have over 200k visitors per day but a few of them like a dozen or so are generating the above error. I can't figure out what may be causing it. Checked the html code and it's all good so I ran out of ideas.

  I have a website the contact form has been failing silently for two weeks (Wordpress + Contact form 7). Apparently updating to Contact Form 7 made the assigned email to fail [email protected], I also tested with [email protected] and it also failed until I tried with gmail and it finally worked. Apparently @telefonica.net and @me.com domains are not working with this version of the plugin, but I have to investigate the cause. I found the logs of the lost emails, but I would like to know If I can recover the sender or the content of the original messages. • apache log analysis tools for multiple virtual hosts?

  I am interested in trying to get a side by side usage comparison of all the virtual hosts being served up by my apache server. In the simplest case, I want to see a list (or bar chart) with each virtual host and the number of requests/traffic on that site. I've been playing around with webalyzer and awstats but I haven't been able to compare multiple virtual hosts in the same infographic. Anyone have any suggestions on tools for doing this (or how I might use the above tools to do so)?

  I'm setting up a link tracking system, which (temporarily) involves adding /link/id/ in front of URL (like http://server/data/id/publication/id/). rewrite data/id/(.*) http://server/$1; The request is logged as: ip - - [17/Nov/2011:10:07:19 +0300] "GET /data/id/publication/id.html HTTP/1.1" 302 154 "-" "UA"` For some reason (keeping the compatibility with AWStats) it is wanted to have 200 logged instead of 302. (nginx allows to get 301 code out of box with permanent option, but thats inappropriate too) What are my options here? Will the combination of location { } and rewrite do the job?

  I have been asked at work to find a solution to one of our problems. We have several logs that customers need access to, because we don't want to give them direct access to the folder/share we are looking to implement a simple Web based solution that permits customers to login see a list of files they have permissions to and download the file. It would need to be able to setup permissions so User01 can see file01 and file03 and User02 can see file04 and file06, optimally all the files would be under the same folder, so permissions are based on files rather then based on folders.   I have an InstallShield MSI project. When I pass an MSIHANDLE from an InstallScript custom action to a managed assembly initialized via DotNetCoCreateObject(), the value received within my managed code is -2. Does anyone know if it is possible to access an MSIHANDLE from an InstallScript custom action that calls into managed code via DotNetCoCreateObject()? I'd like to log my custom action results to the same log file as the rest of the installation. I am using InstallShield 2010, Windows Install 4.5 and .Net 3.5.
