• Install 64-bit Windows 7 on Mac Using Bootcamp

  Has anyone been able to install Windows 7 x64 under Bootcamp on a Mac? I was able to get the 32-bit version to install, but I cannot get x64 to install. The Mac doesn't seem to even want to boot the DVD. And even if I get it installed are there drivers that will work with it? I'd prefer to have Windows 7 x64 because I'd like to use the entire 6GB RAM in my MacBook Pro. I'd appreciate any tips or advice.

  Possible Duplicate: 8gb ram in 32bit operating system I have installed 8 GB RAM in my system. Also upgraded OS to Windows 8 32 bit. My System configuration: Intel i7 960. Ram Crossair 4 GB X 2 1666Mhz Motherboard Asus Rampage III Gene Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 240. 2 TB Seagate I have updated all drivers BIOS also. But my system showing only 2.99 GB out of 8GB usable RAM. Please help me fix this problem.

  Hi, Anyone knows about some 8-bit game creator software that runs under GNU/Linux? I want to make some funny game in my spare time, but I prefer to have a tool (or a set of tools) that will help to keep it just a spare-time-project, thus not involving programming! :D Thanks in advance EDIT: For instance, some month ago I tried FPS Creator, being a frontend of DarkGame Studio. • Acrobat 8 on Windows 7 64-bit

  Here's the situation I'm in. I have Acrobat 8 on Wows 7 (64-bit) and anytime I create PDFs any numbers on the page I'm PDFing come through as garbage. Everything else on the page comes out fine, just the numbers are messed up. They appear as random symbols. I've uninstalled, reinstalled. Applied all updates, not applied updates, nothing seems to help. Mayube I'm a bad searcher, can't put in the right search terms, but I can't find anything that seems to point me in a direction on this. ANy ideas?

• Virtualbox won't run Fedora 10 64 bit iso

  I am using VirtualBox on a Ubuntu 10.04 64bit host. I would like to install a Fedora 64bit guest. When I try to run the 64bit live cd, it says "Automatic boot in 10 seconds..." after which I get a blue background with no menu options. I am familiar with Ubuntu but not Fedora. I have been able to install a Fedora 32 bit system just fine. Any suggestions? I am trying to run an rpm that won't run in Ubuntu even using alien. .

  I have an HP laptop with a Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium operating system. My command prompt doesn't run lots of commands like help, shutdown, ipconfig, ping, etc. I get a message like: 'help' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Only simple commands like cd and dir are working. I noticed that whenever I navigate to c:/windows/system32, the command works. But I need to run some important commands like java on a file that is on the desktop and not in the system32 folder. How can I fix this?

• Why no Win16 support in 64-bit Windows?

  My understanding (from Wikipedia) is that the x64 instruction set supports executing 16-bit protected mode code from long mode, but cannot execute real mode code without being switched out of long mode because long mode lacks virtual 8086 mode. Therefore, it stands to reason that real mode DOS apps can't be run in Win64 w/o software emulation or dynamic translation. However, why was support for Win16 protected-mode apps excluded when support for them seems (at least at first glance) to be reasonably implementable and is included in newer versions of Win32? Was it just a matter of demand not being high enough to justify implementation costs (and the win32 version was already implemented), or is there a good technical reason?

• Installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 64-bit

  I'm having a shocking time trying to install SQL Server 2008 on 64-bit Windows 7. When I run setup.exe, I get the following error message: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed. SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed Things I've tried: I've checked and double checked. I do have .NET Framework 3.5 installed, with SP1 I've read about a missing Windows Installer 4.5 installation producing the same error. Win7 comes with Windows Installer 5, which hopefully satisfies this requirement, as I've tried to install 4.5 and it won't let me Burning the ISO to DVD and installing from there. Installing on an XP machine using the same ISO. This works, so the ISO must be fine. Considering SQL Server 2005, but it really needs to be 2008 for the project. Update Creating a slipstream version gives the same error Update I could install SQL Server Express, and then SP1, but couldn't upgrade to Enterprise. If you've come across this issue, or know how to fix it, I'd love to know.

• Strange behavior in networking between 64bit and 32bit

  I'm having a strange behavior about my network setup. I have 2 laptops, one (Lenovo) with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and another (Acer) with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and a wireless router. I'm connecting these 2 using the router but with a strange behavior. I can ping both machines, as well as the router, but when i try to access their shared folders (\\computer_name\shared_folder) the connection starts to fail and I need to reboot both machines to get it working again. But this only happens sometimes, sometimes it works.

• Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 & Windows 7 64-bit failing miserably

  I am trying to install a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam to Windows 7 64-bit. If I do it without using the Logitech drivers but instead the Windows Update ones, the camera works with low frame rate and without face tracking and all other bells and whistles that it's full driver provides. The moment I install the latest official Logitech driver, the problems begin: Camera works fine, until I decide to go to audio settings of the LWS panel or Windows'. Then LWS freezes and with it everything that tries to output audio. I am not able to open Playback/Recording devices window (it just doesn't appear) and system gets unstable and slow with LWS.EXE process not been able to close forcefully. If I reboot and forget the camera connected, this situation continues and system gets unstable from the beginning. If I reboot without the camera connected, everything works fine until I connect it and try to do something with audio settings of Windows or LWS panel. I should note, that until the freezing occurs, camera works as expected, with full frame rate, face tracking and everything that is expected to do. The soundcard is the ASUS SupremeFX II of the ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboard. Any ideas of what is causing this or what else to try so I can make it work as advertised? Thank you.

• Windows-7 Ultimate 64 bit wont connect to my wired/wireless networks

  Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Everything was working fine & then just stopped working. The nic card Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is enabled but does not connect to my router (cables & router ports are good). Wireless Atheros AR5007EG is enabled but the connection is limited (encryption type / key have been verified). A laptop running XP can connect both wired / wireless. SSID is not being broadcast, connect to network if it is not broadcasting is checked. Have checked services.msc for Bonjour & did not see it listed. Network & sharing center does not list any active networks. Device manager lists both devices as functioning properly. Router configuration has not been changed. Virus scan has not found anything. I would like to fix this rather than using Acronis to do a system restore. Thanks in advance for any advice offered in solving this. 26 Jan, the nic card & wireless are working using PCLinux OS Live CD. It appears that the problem is Windows 7 related.

Of course the addresses change. My computer is a ThinkPad T400 (about 2 years old) with a SSD in it. I'm also running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. When I bought my computer, it had a 250GByte SeaGate HDD in it, which I replaced by a 500GByte HDD by Western Digital. Last september I bought a Corsair F120 SSD and replaced the HDD by this SSD. Then I bought a LEICKE HDD adapter for the UltraBay II where I plugged in my 500GByte HDD. This configuration ran about half a year without any errors. After re-installing Windows this spring, I am getting regular BlueScreens. Sometimes my system runs for about 2 weeks without a BSOD, sometimes I get several BlueScreens a day. The only thing that I noticed is, that I'm always running Google Chrome when it happens. Is there anyone who has made his/her own bad experiences whith some of my components or is there anybody who can tell me if it would be helpful to send my notebook to Lenovo? • shutdown.exe on Win Server2k3 64-bit cannot be found

  Server 2003 SP2 64-bit Verified my path settings are correct, as I can run other executables within the "system32" folder without issue. If I cd to "c:\windows\system32\" folder, and try to run "shutdown /?" I get "shutdown is not recognized as a valid..." you know - the message you get when you type a command that doesn't exist. Doing a "dir *.exe" inside the "system32" folder, also doesn't return "shutdown.exe" as one of the results. HOWEVER - if I go through Windows Explorer - there it is! I can see shutdown.exe. Also, if I go to "Start - Run" and type "shutdown /?", it works fine. So, works in the GUI, not on the command line. very strange. This is an excerpt of the last portion of "dir *.exe" when run on the "system32" folder. • Access, ADO & 64-bit

  We have a large codebase that uses ADO under 32-bit, and we need to convert the code to 64-bit. We were using the Jet provider, but I know this is not supported under x64. We're importing definitions from msado15.dll. As of a while ago a 64-bit version of this DLL became available, but we are unable to get it to work. Obviously, we tested the code under 32 bit and got the desired results. On the 64-bit machine, the code explicitly imports from the known 64-bit version of msado15.dll (v6.1.7600.nnn). The machine has had the Office Data Providers (AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe) applied to get the new ACE drivers (ACEODBC.DLL, v14.nnn.nnn.nnn). If I look at Data Source under Administrator Tools (I know ODBC isn't the same as ADO, it was just to confirm the DLL was installed correctly), it shows the expected DLL. I can even confirm, using Process Explorer, that the version of msado15.dll it loads at run time (thus confirming that COM is finding the ADO dll) is the 64-bit version. I believe we have MDAC 2.8 installed (we have msado28.tlb in the same place as msado15.dll, but that might have been installed by AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe). The test machine is Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. The test code was recompiled on that machine using VS2008 for x64 in full Release and run externally. And yet, we still get COM error 0x800a0e7a (Provider not found). Is there anything any one can suggest as to why this isn't working, or what further tests / checks I can perform to verify that I have all the right stuff on the machine (and thus, that it should work)? I know that ODBC will work under x64 (tried the test program using that) but rewriting our code base for ODBC would be undesirable!

• Error Using 32 vs. 64 bit SharePoint 2007 DLLs with PowerShell

  Next time you fire up PowerShell to work with the SharePoint API make sure you launch the proper bit version of PowerShell.  Last week I had an interesting error that led to this blog post.  Travel back in time a little bit with me to see where this 32 vs. 64 bit debate started. History     Ever since the first pre-beta bits of Office 2010 landed in my lap I have been questioning whether it’s better to run 32 or 64 bit applications on a 64 bit host operating system.  In relation to Office 2010 I heard a number of arguments for 32 bit including this link from the Office 2010 Engineering team.  Given my typical usage scenarios 32 bit seemed the way to go since I wasn’t a “super RAM hungry” Excel user or the like. The Problem     Since I had chosen 32 bit Office 2010, I tried to stick with 32 bit version of other programs that I run assuming the same benefits and rules applied to other applications.  This is where I was wrong.  Last week I was attempting to use 32 bit PowerShell ISE (Integrated Scripting Environment) on a 64 bit WSS 3.0 server.  When trying to reference the 64 bit SharePoint DLLs I got the following errors about not being able to find the web application.     I have run into these errors when I have hosts file issues or improper permissions to the farm / site collection but these were not the case.  After taking a quick spin around the interwebs I ran across the below forum post comment and another MSDN forum reply that explained the error.  Turns out that sometimes it’s not possible to run 32 bit applications against a 64 bit OS / farm / assembly / etc. …the problem could also be because your SharePoint is 64-Bit but your app is running in 32-bit mode     I quickly exited 32 bit PowerShell ISE and ran the same code under 64 bit PowerShell ISE.  All errors were gone and the script ran successfully.   Conclusion     The rules of 32 vs. 64 bit interoperability do not always apply evenly across all applications and scenarios.  In my case I wasn’t able to run 32 bit PowerShell against 64 bit SharePoint DLLs.  I’m updating all of my links and shortcuts to use 64 bit PowerShell where appropriate.  I’m quite surprised it has taken me this long to run into this error, but sometimes blind luck is all that keeps you from running into errors.  Lesson learned and hopefully this can benefit you as well.  Happy SharePointing all!         -Frog Out   Links http://blogs.technet.com/b/office2010/archive/2010/02/23/understanding-64-bit-office.aspx http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointdevelopment/thread/a732cb83-c2ef-4133-b04e-86477b72bbe3/ http://stackoverflow.com/questions/266255/filenotfoundexception-with-the-spsite-constructor-whats-the-problem

  So I know this is a problem that has been asked around a lot, but I've tried a bunch of solutions with no success. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit), and I just installed it yesterday. This is my first time working with linux. The error is: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libc.so.6 Things I've tried. First, I had downloaded from the steam website. I uninstalled it, and tried again from the ubuntu software centre. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ia32-libs sudo apt-get upgrade This installed a bunch of the 32 bit libraries, but did not fix the issue. This seems like the major fix for most people. The direct approach of sudo apt-get install libc.so.6 returns this: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package libc.so.6 E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'libc.so.6' I guess libc.so.6 isn't a package, just a single file or something? I also tried gksudo gedit /etc/ld.so.conf.d/steam.conf Added these two lines, those the second one was all ready in the file, but copied over: /usr/lib32 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa Then executed: sudo ldconfig But nothing seemed to happen, steam still doesn't work. So, I feel like it is more likely that I have the library and steam isn't looking in the right place. One thing I've seen is people usually reference /usr/local/lib/ for your library locations. However, I can't find where to cd into /usr/, it isn't in my home folder. If /usr/ is the home folder, there is only a /.local folder which only has /share, no lib anywhere. Sorry for my linux ignorance. I appreciate any help, I honestly have no idea how to confirm I have the library and point steam to it, or if that is even the right thing to do. • Allocating 32-bit integer arrays in 64-bit machines

  I have a 64-bit i7 machine. Suppose I allocate memory for n 32-bit integers. How many physical registers will actually be used in the allocation: n, or n/2? I tried to write the following simple programme to find out. #include <iostream> #include <cstdlib> using namespace std; int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { int a[4]; cout << &a[0] << "\t" << &a[3] << endl; cin.ignore (1); return 0; } // End main () The output is: 0018FA04 0018FA10 They seem further apart than they should be. Why aren't the addresses 04 and 07? And does this mean that the system is actually allocating four (or more) integers, instead of packing the four 32-bit integers into two 64-bit registers?   I just want to build this on my development machine -- the binary install from Python.org is still 32 bits and installing extensions (MySQLdb, for example) is driving me nuts with trying to figure out the proper flags for each and every extension. Clarification: I did NOT replace the system Python, I just installed the Python.org binary into its normal place at /Library/..., not /System/Library/.... Everything else seems to build 64 bit by default, and the default Python 2.6.1 was 64 bit (before I replaced it with the Python.org build figuring it was a direct replacement)` I just want a 64 bit only build that will run on my one machine without any cruft.   Hi, I am stuck with a problem. I am working on a hardware which only does support 32 bit operations. sizeof(int64_t) is 4. Sizeof(int) is 4. and I am porting an application which assumes size of int64_t to be 8 bytes. The problem is it has this macro BIG_MULL(a,b) ( (int64_t)(a) * (int64_t)(b) 23) The result is always a 32 bit integer but since my system doesn't support 64 bit operation, it always return me the LSB of the operation, rounding of all the results making my system crash.   I download the Gurobi package for linear programming. I import the corresponding gurobi.jar package. Then run the example program. • Ways to wrap 32-bit .dll so it will work in a 64-bit OS

  So, I've been using JPIB to communicate with GPIB devices in my java program. However, I have run into a snag. Newer systems are built on 64 bit OS's. However, the jpib.dll file is written in 32-bit. I can't think of any kind of calls that it would need to make that are truly 64-bit dependent. The real trouble here is that the JPIB project hasn't been updated since september of 2006. I've tried emailing the dev through SourceForge but I don't think I'll get anywhere with that. Does anyone know of any ways around this? Or know how (and could tell me how) to recompile the .dll into AMD-64 compliance?
