  • How to change the menu icon of mate desktop menu applet?

    I am using the Mate Desktop Environment v-1.4.1 and having a Mate-Menu applet in the bottom panel: Shutdown [ICON] Applications Places System. See screenshot below. Is there any way to change or remove the [ICON] on the left of the Applications menu? Where does Mate take this from? I noticed the inon changes when using different icon-themes but I don't understand how to customize only this single icon.

  • Upgraded to Maverick; can't change theme

    Hi, I just upgraded to Maverick, and now I can't change my theme except for the cursor and window border/decoration. I've just reinstalled the themes I want to use (Dust + Dust extra) successfully, and while the window border/decorations change properly when I select them, nothing else changes. The icon set doesn't change; gnome-panel doesn't change. I'm stuck on the fugly fallback theme - the one you see when you do gksudo gedit or something. Halp! -Mike

The answers to this related question doesn't make it clear whether there is: How to change the Dash icon in the Unity Launcher? As far as I can see the Software Center icon isn't in nautilus /usr/share/unity/5/ so where could it be?

  • UPK Customer Success Story: The City and County of San Francisco

    The value of UPK during an upgrade is a hot topic and was a primary focus during our latest customer roundtable featuring The City and County of San Francisco: Leveraging UPK to Accelerate Your PeopleSoft Upgrade. As the Change Management Analyst for their PeopleSoft 9.0 HCM project (Project eMerge), Jan Crosbie-Taylor provided a unique perspective on how they're utilizing UPK and UPK pre-built content early on to successfully manage change for thousands of city and county employees and retirees as they move to this new release. With the first phase of the project going live next September, it's important to the City and County of San Francisco to 1) ensure that the various constituents are brought along with the project team, and 2) focus on the end user aspects of the implementation, including training. Here are some highlights on how UPK and UPK pre-built content are helping them accomplish this: As a former documentation manager, Jan really appreciates the power of UPK as a single source content creation tool. It saves them time by streamlining the documentation creation process, enabling them to record content once, then repurpose it multiple times. With regard to change management, UPK has enabled them to educate the project team and gain critical buy in and support by familiarizing users with the application early on through User Experience Workshops and by promoting UPK at meetings whenever possible. UPK has helped create awareness for the project, making the project real to users. They are taking advantage of UPK pre-built content to: Educate the project team and subject matter experts on how PeopleSoft 9.0 works as delivered Create a guide/storyboard for their own recording Save time/effort and create consistency by enhancing their recorded content with text and conceptual information from the pre-built content Create PeopleSoft Help for their development databases by publishing and integrating the UPK pre-built content into the application help menu Look ahead to the next release of PeopleTools, comparing the differences to help the team evaluate which version to use with their implemtentation When it comes time for training, they will be utilizing UPK in the classroom, eliminating the time and cost of maintaining training databases. Instructors will be able to carry all training content on a thumb drive, allowing them to easily provide consistent training at their many locations, regardless of the environment. Post go-live, they will deploy the same UPK content to provide just-in-time, in-application support for the entire system via the PeopleSoft Help menu and their PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal. Users will already be comfortable with UPK as a source of help, having been exposed to it during classroom training. They are also using UPK for a non-Oracle application called JobAps, an online job application solution used by many government organizations. Jan found UPK's object recognition to be excellent, yet it's been incredibly easy for her to change text or a field name if needed. Please take time to listen to this recording.   • Change Desktop Resolution With a Keyboard Shortcut

    Do you find yourself changing your monitor resolution several times a day?  If so, you might like this handy way to set a keyboard shortcut for your most-used resolutions. Most users rarely have to change their screen resolution often, as LCD monitors usually only look best at their native resolution.  But netbooks present a unique situation, as their native resolution is usually only 1024×600.  Some newer netbooks offer higher resolutions which may not looks as crisp as the native resolution but can be handy for using a program that expects a higher resolution.  This is the perfect situation for a keyboard shortcut to help you change the resolution without having to hassle with dialogs and menus each time, and HRC – HotKey Resolution Changer makes it easy to do. Create Keyboard Shortcuts Download the HRC – HotKey Resolution Changer (link below), unzip, and then run HRC.exe in the folder. This will start a tray icon, and will not automatically open the HRC window.  You don’t have to install HRC.  Double-click the tray icon to open it.  Note: Windows 7 automatically hides new tray icons, so if you can’t see it, click the arrow to see the hidden tray icons. By default, HRC will show two entries with your default resolutions, color depth, and refresh rate. Add a keyboard shortcut by clicking the Change button over the resolution.  Press the keyboard shortcut you want to press to switch to that resolution; we entered Ctrl+Alt+1 for our default resolution.  Make sure not to use a keyboard shortcut you use in another application, as this will override it.  Click Set when you’ve entered the hotkey(s) you want. Now, on the second entry, select the resolution you want for your alternate resolution.  The drop-down list will only show your monitor’s supported resolutions, so you don’t have to worry about choosing an incorrect resolution.  You can also set a different color depth or refresh rate for this resolution.  Now add a keyboard shortcut for this resolution as well. You can set keyboard shortcuts for up to 9 different resolutions with HRC.  Click the Select number of HotKeys button on the left, and choose the number of resolutions you want to set.  Here we have unique keyboard shortcuts for our three most-used resolutions on our netbook. HRC must be kept running to use the keyboard shortcuts, so click the Minimize to tray icon which is the second icon to the right.  This will keep it running in the tray. If you want to be able to change your resolution anytime, you’ll want HRC to automatically start with Windows.  Create a shortcut to HRC, and paste it into your Windows startup folder.  You can easily open this folder by entering the following in the Run command or in the address bar in Explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup   Conclusion HRC- HotKey Resolution Changer gives you a great way to quickly change your screen resolution with a keyboard shortcut.  Whether or not you love keyboard shortcuts, this is still a much easier way to switch between your most commonly used resolutions.   • .Net ListView and System's Icon Size

    I have a ListView using the LargeIcon View mode with some 64x64 thumbnails. The problem is that the padding between ListViewItems is somehow based on the system's Icon size value (Display Properties Appearance Advanced Icon). The default for XP seems to be 32 and the ListView and its thumbnails look fine, but with higher Icon sizes, the items are spaced out horrendously. Is there any way to override this behavior and force it to use the same spacing?

  • Android - incremental status bar notification icon

    You know what I'm talking about: for example when you get multiple new emails the notification icon in the status bar is augmented with a little red circle that contains number of unread mails. Twitroid has the same icon. Any idea how it's done? I don't think (or so I hope) there are 10000 similar icons. Is this red circle generated and overlaid the notification icon? If so - any code snippets will be much appreciated.

  • JLabel with separate text and icon background colours

    Hey, I have a simple Jlabel element with text and icon setting the background changes the full label colour. I want to be able to only render the background colour on the text section of the label, ie - to have separate backgrounds/foregrounds for the icon and text. Selecting/deselecting the label will flip the colour behind the icon and text. Is this possible to do this by just extending JLabel, and if so which methods should i be looking to customise? My alternative idea is to create a panel with two separate label elements, one with an icon the other with text. It seems a bit messy, and before i start i'm wondering is there a smarter way of achieving this with Swing.

  • mx:Tree not dispatching "itemClick" event when click on icon

    I have a flex tree that worked perfectly fine when we set the defaultLeafIcon={null} and the folderClosedIcon and folderOpenIcon to {null}. We decided to put the icons back in and took out the nulls. Now they show up fine, but if you click on the icon instead of the label or the rest of the row, it seems to change the selected item, shows the highlight around the new item, but doesn't dispatch the ItemClick event. This makes it really hard to know that the tree's selected item has changed! The weird part is that once you have clicked on the icon once and it looked like the selectedItem changed (or at least it applied that style), if you click the same icon again, it will actually fire the itemClick event. if you click any other icon, it does the same thing again, switching the selectedItem and styling that row, but not firing the itemClick event. Any ideas? Thanks. (This is in flex 4 btw)
