• MSbuild task fails because "Any CPU" solution is built out of order

  I have two solutions to build in Teambuild, one is the application itself, the other one is the WiX installer. I want to build the application using "Any CPU" build configuration and the installer using "x86". I've listed the "Any CPU" solution first in my project file, but Teambuild always builds the "x86" solution first. I'm setting BuildSolutionsInParallel = false, but it still builds the solutions in the reverse listed order. If I change the first solution to "Mixed Platform", it works fine. • Custom JComponent not displaying in Custom JPanel

  I've tried the add() method but nothing is displayed when I try to add Test to GraphicsTest. How should I be adding it? Can someone show me? • msbuild TransformWebConfig task - doesn't work for App.configs?

  I have a windows service that will need to have the same kind of transformations that the web.configs would use, but VS 2010 doesn't seem to support that. I've tried manually adding the App.Release.Config files, and then using msbuil [PROJ] /T:TransformWebConfig /p:Configuration=Release but no transformation is performed. I got a TransformWebConfig folder createed in my obj subdirectory, but that's it. Is this thing hardcoded to only work with web.configs?

  I'm attempting to make use of configuration transformations in a continuous integration environment. I need a way to tell the TFS build agent to perform the transformations. I was kind of hoping it would just work after discovering the config transform files (web.qa-release.config, web.production-release.config, etc...). But it doesn't. I have a TFS build definition that builds the right configurations (qa-release, production-release, etc...) and I have some specific .proj files that get built within these definitions and those contain some environment specific parameters eg: <PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)'=='production-release' "> <TargetHost Condition=" '$(TargetHost)'=='' ">qa.web</TargetHost> ... </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)'=='qa-release' "> <TargetHost Condition=" '$(TargetHost)'=='' ">production.web</TargetHost> ... </PropertyGroup> I know from the output that the correct configurations are being built. Now I just need to learn how to trigger the config transformations. Is there some hocus pocus that I can add to the final .proj in the build to kick off the transform and blow away the individual transform files?

• MSBuild - setting a reference path

  I have several assemblies my project is dependant upon. These are stored in the Project's directory under the "Dependencies" folder. So something like this. Solution - Project - Dependancies FunkyAssembly.dll - bin - Debug - Release SomeCode.cs I've referenced FunkyAssembly.dll using Browse and in project.csproj I see <Reference Include="FunkyAssembly"> <HintPath>Dependancies\FunkyAssembly.dll</HintPath> </Reference> So far so good - except after a release build FunkyAssembly.dll is copied to the Release directory (not a problem in itself) but then future debug builds will reference this copy rather than the copy in Dependencies. You can see this if you at Path in the reference properties. This means that if Dependencies\FunkyAssembly.dll is updated the build won't pick it up as its referencing the old copy in bin/Release. Any way to FORCE the damn thing to pick up Dependencies\FunkyAssembly.dll rather than HINT?

  I have a build in TFS 2008 which includes the running of a UnitTest project. I have configured my build as such that in the drop folder after each build, I get a StyleCop.log, FxCop.log and would like to place the trx or output from the unit tests here also. I can see that my unit tests are running as part of the build, however currently I cannot find were the output is saved to or find a way of setting the ouput to my drop location ($(DropLocation)\$(BuildNumber)\MyUnitTests.txt) My unit tests are included by using the following:- <RunTest>true</RunTest> ... <ItemGroup> <TestContainer Include="$(OutDir)\%2aMyUnitTests.dll" /> </ItemGroup> Can somebody help explain how I can achieve this.

  The title pretty much says it all... this code does not write anything to the console cause the collection is empty. Project p = new Project(engine); p.AddNewImport(@"C:\mytarget.targets",""); foreach(Import imp in p.Imports) Console.WriteLine(p.ProjectPath); But!, if I debug the code the collections get the imports, I guess it has to do with timming? :(

  We Have a large VS solution using project references which is build by TFS Build like so: Solution - Project 1 - Project 2 - Project ... - Project N Because the solution is too large we have several smaller solutions which we use day to day: SubSolution - Project 1 - Project 19 The problem is that developers working on SubSolution find that it is not building because the project references could not be found, so they change the projects to use file references. This then goes on to break the TFS Build which cannot find these file references because they have not been built yet (Even though the projects are in the same solution). Is there a way around this tug of war between the two types of references. What is the correct way of splitting out your solutions?

• MSBuild Working with ItemGroup and EXEC Command

  I created the ItemGroup shown in the code snippet. I need to iterate through this ItemGroup and run the EXEC command - also shown in the code snippet. I cannot seem to get it to work. The code returns the error shown below (note - the Message is written 2 times, which is correct), but the EXEC Command is not running correctly. The value is not being set; therefore the EXEC is not executing at all. I need the EXEC to execute twice or by however sections I define in the ItemGroup.   Using SharpDevelop, I wrote a windows service with a WIX setup project to install/auto-start it. For testing purposes, I've done a number of things I don't want to do in the release version (i.e. add an uninstall shortcut to the desktop). So, my question really boils down to this; how do you handle build configurations within a WiX project? I think I've solved most of my problems after I found this question Passing build parameters to .wxs file to dynamicaly build wix installers. And thus far I've done the following: Added a property that checks the Configuration variable <Product> ... <Property Id="DEBUG">$(var.Configuration) == 'Debug'</Property> ... Separated all of the debug files into unique components and setup as a separate feature with a condition checking the DEBUG property. <Product> ... <Feature> ... <Feature Id="DebugFiles" Level="1"> <ComponentRef Id="UninstallShortcutComponent" /> <Condition Level="0">DEBUG</Condition> </Feature> ... Then, finally, pointing to the correct file based on the configuration, using the Configuration variable <Directory> ... <Component> <File Source="..\mainProject\bin\$(var.Configuration)\main.exe" /> </Component> ... So, now my question is simplified to how to handle files that may not exist under certain build configurations (like .pdb files). Using all of the above (including pointing the file source to the ...\bin\Release\*.pdb, which I know isn't expected to exist) I get a LGHT0103 compiler error, it can't find the file.

  I want to deploy an application to a list of servers. I have all of the build issues taken care of, but I'm having trouble publishing to a list of servers. • Make a target run once at the Solution level in MSBuild

  I need a set of tasks that need to be executed exactly once for the entire solution. This will run tasks that will modify each project to run a separate set of tasks for each project. We had done this earlier using a separate project to the solution which had the solution level tasks, but we want to move away from that. Has anyone done this or does anyone have any suggestions on how to implement this?

The different values can be slightly different or more than double. • Is it possible to show " New Task" of Task Manager from tasks of Task Manager only?

  I work on remote Windows Server 2008 machine over RDP and frequently need to revive broken copy&pasting over RDP. Which is killing rdpclip process in Task Manger (tab "Processes") and launching it gain by: switching to tab Applications -- pressing button "New Task..." -- typing 'rdpclip'-- clicking OK. Well, I do not need to type 'rdpclip' if it is the last used command. The problem that in "Create New Task" of Windows Task Manager I always launch rdpclip only but it shows the last run program from Windows command prompt (Win +R), usually it is "notepad" for me. Is it possible to bind the last used command/task to Task Manager only? and how?

• Schedule Task run Without Being Logged in

  I have seen similar threads here and on the net, but I think my question is slightly different than what I can find... I have a script that runs perfectly when logged in with a service account I created specifically to run this script. But when I schedule it to run it hangs when trying to launch IE (the first part of my script). Without being logged in with that account I can watch the processes with task manager and see the processes running, but the script never finishes. I want to be able to run this script without needing to be logged in at all or even have the account be locked all the times. Is this possible? Or do I have to have the user account logged in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Windows 2008 R2 Scheduled Task Not Running With Admin Privileges even if granted?

  I have a scheduled task that is running as USER. I have checked the box "Run with highest privileges" in the scheduled task properties. The task is a powershell script that, among other things, reboots the system. The script executes and runs normally, but as a scheduled task, it fails to reboot the system. Here is the kicker: When I manually run the script as USER using the exact same command line as what's in the scheduled task, the script still runs but this time it actually reboots the system. I have UAC disabled and USER is a member of the local Admins group. The local Admins group has the right to shut down the system. Nothing in the event logs offers any clues. Why would the same script running under the same credentials work interactively but not as a scheduled task? UPDATE: This is too weird. When the task ran on schedule, everything worked normally.
