• Scaffolding Web Services in Grails

  I need to implement a web app, but instead of using relational database I need to use different SOAP Web Services as a back-end. An important part of application only calls web services and displays the result. Since Web Services are clearly defined in form of Operation: In parameters and Return Type it seems to me that basic GUI could be easily constructed just like in the case of scaffolding based on Domain Entities. For example in case of SearchProducts web service operation I need to enter search parameters as input, so the search page can be constructed. Operation will return a list of products, so I need a page that will display this list in some kind of table. Is there already some library in grails that let you achieve this. If not, how would you go about creating one?

• Grails 1.2.x scripts not working

• Batch update records in Grails

  I have to calculate a "total" for each user based on individual actions -- that is, a User hasMany Actions and each Action has a point. So I need to basically get a sum of all the points on all the actions. Actions are added and subtracted regularly. Since this can be a rather heavy operation, it's not feasible that I execute the "total" each time I need it. Therefore, I am thinking of running the operation once a day for each user and storing the total points on the User as an int. Because I have thousands of users, I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. Should I basically iterate through all the users and call User.save() each time, or is there some kind of batch update mechanism I can use in Grails / GORM?

• MarkupBuilder using list

  I am currently using sql.row("statement") and storing to a list. I then am trying to setup my xml file using MarkupBuilder. Is there a better way than iterating over the list poping off an item and then parsing it to add my different column names and values? What is stored by list entry is ID='X' Period='Yearly' Lengh='test' So the XML would be something similar to: <table name='test'> <row> <column name=ID>X</column> <column name=Period>Yearly</column> <column name=Length>test</column> </row> </table>

• Cannot set g:checkbox to off for a child on one-to-many relationship

  Got a weird issue with g:checkbox not being saved when its switched from on to off for a child in one-to-many relationship. For example: class Parent { Boolean enabled static hasMany = [children: Child] static constraints = { enabled(blank: true, nullable: true) } } class Child { Boolean enabled static belongsTo = [parent: Parent] static constraints = { enabled(blank: true, nullable: true) } } Posting to Parent controller true/false values will work for Parent: <g:checkBox name="enabled" value="${parentInstance?.enabled}"/> However, not for Child! When posting to Parent controller I can only go from false to true, trying to change from true to false again will not work: <g:each in="${parentInstance.children}" status="i" var="child"> <g:checkBox name="child[${i}].enabled" value="${child?.enabled}" /> </g:each> That seems to be a bug. Any ideas? Thanks.

  Usually I'm using One-to-many relationship by this way : class Subject { static hasMany = [ crfs : Crf ] String name ... } class Crf { String title String info ... } I can extend this relationship to others domains, Ex : static hasMany = [ crfs : Crf, crfb : CrfBlood ...] But in my case I have to link the Subject domain to 30 others domains, maybe more...(ex : CrfBlood, CrfMedical, crfFamily, etc...). What domain model implementation should I use in my case ? I would like to keep the dynamic finders usability in my project.

(using code_set_id as primary key in code_set and code_set_id as foreign key in cartridge). Mapping with GORM can be done without intermediate table?

I have the following domain classes class User { static hasMany = [goals: Goal] } So each User has a list of Goal objects. I want to be able to take an instance of User and return 5 Users with the highest number of matching Goal objects (with the instance) in their goals list. Can someone kindly explain how I might go about doing this?

• ImageMagick and Grails not working

  I'm trying to have ImageMagick run from grails to convert some images when I run the command to make an image nothing happens. I get no errors, no information returned nothing at all. I've tried running other commands like touch and ps ux just to see if they work and they all work fine. It just seems like the imagemagick commands are getting lost and I''m not sure what to do. Here is the code I've been working with. String command = CH.config.ImageMagickPath + "/convert -size 40x20 xc:red xc:blue -append -rotate 90 append_rotate.gif" println command command.execute() CH.config.ImageMagickPath is set up to where imagemagick/bin is. I've taken what is shown in println command and run it in a terminal and it works fine. Is there any reason why I can't get IM to work from grails?

• Grails , how do I get an object NOT to save

  Hello I am new to grails and trying to create a form which allows a user to change the email address associated with his/her account for a site I am creating. It asks for the user for their current password and also for the new email address they want to use. If the user enters the wrong password or an invalid email address then it should reject them with an appropriate error message. Now the email validation can be done through constraints in grails, but the password change has to match their current password. I have implemented this check as a method on a service class. See code below: def saveEmail = { def client = ClientUser.get(session.clientUserID) client.email = params.email if(clientUserService.checkPassword(session.clientUserID , params.password) ==false) { flash.message = "Incorrect Password" client.discard() redirect(action:'changeEmail') } else if(!client.validate()) { flash.message = "Invalid Email Address" redirect(action:'changeEmail') } else { client.save(); session.clientUserID = null; flash.message = "Your email address has been changed, please login again" redirect(controller: 'clientLogin' , action:'index') } } Now what I noticed that was odd was that if I entered an invalid email then it would not save the changes (as expected) BUT if I entered the wrong password and a valid email then it would save the changes and even write them back into the database even though it would give the correct "invalid password" error message. I was puzzled so set break points in all the if/else if/else blocks and found that it was hitting the first if statement as expected and not hitting the others , so it would never come accross a call to the save() method, yet it was saved anyway. After a little research I came accross documentation for the discard() method which you can see used in the code above. So I added this but still no avail. I even tried using discard then reloading the client object from the DB again but still no dice. This is very frustrating and I would be grateful for any help, since I think that this should surely not be a complicated requirement!

  I'm using the grails navigation plugin and one of the things i want to do is have the menu item have a dynamic number in it for example static navigation = [ group:'tabs', order:7, title:'Mail', action:'index', subItems: [ [action:'pending', order:1, title:"Pending"], [action:'active', order:10, title:'Active'], [action:'completed', order:11, title:'Completed'] ] ] So i want to figure out a way to make the title Mail(3) or Mail(2) based on the amount of messages a user has. I know this will have to be set in the method or by a service of some sort i'm just not sure how to get it to update.

  I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

  y is it so hard to extract the date from the view via the params in a grails controller? i don't want to extract the date by hand like this: instance.dateX = parseDate(params["dateX_value"])//parseDate is from my helper class i just want to use instance.properties = params you know :) in the model the type is java.util.Date and in the params is all the information (dateX_month, dateX_day, ...) i searched on the net and found nothing on this :( i hoped that grails 1.3.0 could help but still the same thing. i can't and will not belief that extracting the date by hand is nessesary!

  Is it possible to set cookies on response when the return render type is set as json? I can set cookies on the response object when returning with a standard render type and later on, I'm able to get it back on the subsequent request. However, if I were to set the cookies while rendering the return values as json, I can't seem to get back the cookie on the next request object. What's happening here? These two actions work as expected with 'basicForm' performing a regular form post to the action, 'withRegularSubmit', when the user clicks submit. // first action set the cookie and second action yields the originally set cookie def regularAction = { // using cookie plugin response.setCookie("username-regular", "regularCookieUser123",604800); return render(view: "basicForm"); } // called by form post def withRegularSubmit = { def myCookie = request.getCookie("username-regular"); // returns the value 'regularCookieUser123' return render(view: "resultView"); } When I switch to setting the cookie just before returning from the response with json, I don't get the cookie back with the post. The request starts by getting an html document that contains a form and when doc load event is fired, the following request is invoked via javascript with jQuery like this: var someUrl = "http://localhost/jsonAction"; $.get(someUrl, function(jsonData) { // do some work with javascript} The controller work: // this action is called initially and returns an html doc with a form. def loadJsonForm = { return render(view: "jsonForm"); } // called via javascript when the document load event is fired def jsonAction = { response.setCookie("username-json", "jsonCookieUser456",604800); // using cookie plugin return render(contentType:'text/json') { 'pair'('myKey': "someValue") }; } // called by form post def withJsonSubmit = { def myCookie = request.getCookie("username-json"); // got null value, expecting: jsonCookieUser456 return render(view: "resultView"); } The data is returned to the server as a result of the user pressing the 'submit' button and not through a script. Prior to the submit of both 'withRegularSubmit' and 'withJsonSubmit', I see the cookies stored in the browser (Firefox) so I know they reached the client.

  Hi guys, I have to implement map values in my Grails app. I have a class that can contain 0..N OsmTags, and the key is unique. In Java I would model this with a Map in each object, but I don't know how to map classes in Grails. So I defined this class: class OsmTag { /** OSM tag name, e.g. natural */ String key /** OSM tag value, e.g. park */ String value static constraints = { key blank:false, size:2..80,matches:/[\S]+/, unique:false value blank:false, size:1..250,matches:/[\S]+/, unique:false } } That works ok, but it's actually quite ugly because the tag key is not unique. • Can Grails output error messages in emacs format?

  Ant has a -e option for outputting error messages that can be parsed by emacs' compile command. For example, it is possible to do M-x compile, ant -e, then nagivate to any errors with C-x `. Is it possible to make grails output its compilation errors in this format? Alternatively, is there an emacs variable that can be customized to handle error messages in the format that grails uses?
