  A borrowed a friend workstation with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10. I do not have the administrator password and I would like to format everything and install Ubuntu 12.04. I have put the iso on the usb using PendriveLinux and restarted the machine. At the boot I am presented with several options but those Ubuntu ones simply load my friends Ubuntu 10.10 OS (for which I have no password). edit: I fixed this by pressing F12 at the boot before it gave me that prompt (called GRUB). I clicked USB and finally install.

  I am new to Ubuntu, i installed it in an old PC and now it works GREAT!!! My Macbook pro has a glitch and refuses to run Mac OS X, so i installed Windows, and i really want Ubuntu since Windows is not for me. Here's the problem(s) my drive only READS DVDs, if i put a blank in it, it will ignore it and my mac has the updated EFI, so no booting from a USB connected device! I also tried Wubi, but then i cant make it a FULL partition and get rid of windows!!! Thank you!

• Installing 12.04 within 11.04

  I recently installed 11.04 from an installation disk (overwriting Windows in the process). I know 11.04 is no longer supported but I had no problems subsequently upgrading it to 12.04 (via 11.10) a couple of months ago on another device. This time though, things are different. I can't upgrade through update manager because Ubuntu then tells me I have no internet connection, which is (obviously incorrect). I have tried to circumvent the problem by downloading the 12:04 iso from ubuntu.com directly but now I'm troubled by something else. The download is succesfull but after mounting the iso I can't interact with it. When I try to access the Wubi it gives me the following message: Archive: /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe [/home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe] End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe or /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe.ZIP, period.   I need help! I installed Ubuntu with my LiveUSB, and it said restart to use your system, so I restarted. Now I am just stuck in a completely black screen with a blinking _ I'm already waiting 10 minutes for something to happen, but there's nothing. I don't know what the problem could be, but maybe the message I got during installation that said 'APT couldn't be configured, so no additional apps will be installed' was the problem? • Trouble installing Rabbit VCS for nautilus

  I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and following instructions mentioned here to install Rabbit VCS. I added the PPA properly, did a sudo apt-get update and ran sudo apt-get install rabbitvcs-core rabbitvcs-nautilus rabbitvcs-thunar rabbitvcs-gedit rabbitvcs-cli There were dependency issues and I googled a bit and found out that I need to install RabbitVCS only for nautilus as that is the default file manager for Ubuntu. So I ran the install commands separately for rabbitvcs-core, rabbitvcs-gedit and rabbitvcs-cli. Now my understanding is that those are installed properly.   I love my lixux 12.04..till yesterday it installed new updates and i clicked on restart.. As system went to grub all normal & loaded normal..then instead of pretty desktop (auto login turned on) i have black screen asking for login and password.. Why? How i get my desktop back to before? Please help new noob!!! This is due to updates i am sure, nothing in hardware has changed and no other display settings changed.. using AMD diver from there site linux one for my raedeon 6850 and have catalyst driver working fine.. i have tried typing in weird commands but they didnt do much like sudo start lightdm and sudo startx .. didnt do anything just froze.. i dont exactly no what these commands do but something to do with black screen..so i thought id try it.. • Installing Eclipse for OSB Development

  OSB provides 2 methods for OSB development, the OSB console, and Eclipse. This post deals with a typical development environment with OSB installed on a remote server and the developer requiring an IDE on their PC for development. As at 11.1.1.4 Eclipse is only IDE supported for OSB development. We are hoping OSB will support JDeveloper in the future. To get the download for Eclipse use the download WebLogic Server with the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse, e.g. wls1034_oepe111161_win32.exe.To ensure the Eclipse version is compatible with your OSB version I recommend using the Eclipse that comes with the supported WLS server, e.g. OSB 11.1.1.4 you would install WLS 10.3.4+oepe.The install is a 2 step process, install the base Eclipse, then install the OSB plugins. In this example I'm using the 11.1.1.4 install for windows, your versions may differ. You need to download 2 programs, WebLogic Server with the oepe plugin for your OS, and the Oracle Service Bus which is generally generic. Place these files in a directory of your choice. Start the executable I create a new Oracle Home for this installation as it don't want to impact on my JDeveloper install or any other Oracle products installed on my machine. Ignore the support / email notifications Choose a custom install as we only want to install the minimum for Eclipse. If you really want you can do a typical and install everything. Deselect all products then select the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse. This will select the minimum prerequisites required for install. As I'm only going to use this home for OSB Development I deselect the JRockit JVM. Accept the locations for the installs. If running on a Windows environment you will be asked to start a Node Manger service. This is optional. I have chosen to ignore. Select the user permissions you require, I have set to default. Do a last check to see if the values are correct and continue to install. The install should start. The install should complete successfully. I chose not to run the Quick Start. Extract the OSB download to a location of your choice and double click on the setup.exe. You may be asked to supply a correct java location. Point this to the java installed in your OS. I'm running Windows 7 so I used the 64bit version. Skip the software updates. Set the OSB home to the location of the WLS home installed above Choose a custom install as all we want to install is the OSB Eclipse Plugins. Select OSB IDE. For the rest of the install screens accept the defaults. Start the install There is no need to configure a WLS domain if you only intend to deploy to the remote server. If you need to do this there are other sites how to configure via the configuration wizard. Start Eclipse to make sure the OSB Plugin has been created. In the top right drop down you should see OSB as an option. Connecting to the remote server, select the Server Tab at the bottom Right-click in that frame and select Server. Chose the remote server version and the hostname Provide and name for your server if necessary, and accept the defaults Enter connection details for the remote server Click on the Remote server and it should validate stating its status.Now you ready to develop, Happy developing!

• Can't access my accelerated hard disk from msdos after installing linux on ssd cache

  I mistakenly installed Ubuntu on my ssd (forgot my PC actually came with one), when it detected a ~31GiB disk that it wanted to install to, I was a bit confused since I had brought out 30Gb in my primary disk for it, but I clicked continue. After installation, I tried to boot back into my Windows and it brought out some Intel Raid Disk Utility stuff saying I should disable acceleration on a disk something couldn't be found, I canceled it but whatever I tried, recovery tools, setups etc, I couldn't just access the drive which was apparently using the SSD as cache. Since then I've been stuck. I tried setting the 'raid' flag to the disk from 'gParted', still I couldn't. I tried the diskraid utility from windows recover disk, it said it couldn't detect any raid, diskpart sees the partition but doesn't see the volume, when I remove the raid flag, it sees the volume as one of raw type, and I can't access anything. I can however mount the drive from terminal in Ubuntu and access my files, but I don't have any backup media at the moment so I can do a factory re-install. Please how do I go about solving the issue, precisely I would like to know how to boot into the drive again. Thanks!

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 11.04 onto some custom made PC that my father in law tried building. It had Windows on it, but he wants Ubuntu so he asked me to do it. I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a few computers no issues, but on this computer I get to the all purple screen with the Ubuntu logo and the orange and white dots that light up. Like this: The fan is also super, super loud and sounds like the whole thing is going to explode and has been running like this for 15 mins ish. Then, after about 15 mins the dots stop animating from orange to white and usually just stick at all orange. Any ideas?

  How I can install mysql in ubuntu 12.04(gnome 3). So that I will have my mysql installation in /usr/bin/mysql It's library and header files in /usr/lib/mysql and /usr/include/mysql respectively. Last time I tried sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common The mysql has been installed in /usr/bin/mysql. It's header files were in /usr/include/mysql but library files were not present. and libmysqlclient.so was in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/ which should not be there. I need it to be in /usr/lib/mysql Help me out in solving this problem :(

  When i got this netbook last year i planned n putting ubuntu netbook remix on it but i never did and now i can no longer booot n to windows for some reason so i finally decided to do it but after makig a usb stick with ubuntu on it it will not get to the menu where there is the black and white ubuntu logo and the option to install try and so on. I know to usb is configured correctly it will boot on other computers but on the netbook it only flashes SYSLINUX 4.06EOD..... and then flashs blue before turning black with the whit undercore in the top right corner for a very long time. any suggestions ive been told to disable acpi but i cant find it in the bios. (btw im uing 12.04 though ive tried 11.04 and used unetbootin linux live installer and universal usb installer to make the usb)

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my HP Mini 110 with 2 gb of ram and Windows 7 starter edition. However, when I try to boot from USB, the Ubuntu screen loads and then shows the message-'General Error Mounting Filesystem'. I have to press Ctrl+D to reboot, and the same process starts again until I remove my pen drive. I have tried making a Live USB from UNetBootin and the software Ubuntu suggests, downloaded from pendrivelinux.com. However, Ubuntu still won't load. I am new to the Ubuntu world and don't know what to do, please help.

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on my Lenovo S10-3. According to the release notes, there is a bug in the kernel that forces me to add intel_idle.max_cstate=0 to the kernel parameters. I did this when booting the install CD and I was able to install Ubuntu. During the installation I chose to fetch updates from the net. Now when I try to boot the machine it just hangs. I have tried booting the machine as-is and I have tried adding the above-mentioned kernel parameters. Same experience. So, my questions is how do I install 10.10 in this machine and how do I boot it after I've installed the OS?

  I have installed Ubuntu Desktop x64 12.01.1 as guest in VirtualBox. When I installed VirtualBox Guest Additions, Unity desktop (top bar and left program icons bar) becomes invisible. The problem was found in VirtualBox 4.1.20 and still exist in 4.1.22. Reinstalling doesn't help. Maybe someone knows how to overcome this issue? • Can't connect to Wired Network after installing 12.04

  I have installed 12.04 into a used HP Compaq DC 7100 CMT. Plugged in LAN cable into the computer and it says network disconnected. from what I understand on the things I've read, it's not getting the address right, maybe it's just a guess (hardware address 00:16:35:78:47:bb). I know the LAN cable is working I can get on the net with the old computer. (Old computer is using device MAC address; Auto eth0 00:11:11:E6:4F:FE). I have put this address into the newer HP and it shows last used (minutes ago) but no Internet sever not found. I tried the hardware address it says never. I feel and think this should be easy to fix. But I just don't know.
