• Only two monitor ports are detected on nVidia Quadro NVS 450

  I have an nVidia Quadro NVS 450 installed in a Dell Optiron 380. Only DisplayPort #1 and DisplayPort #4 are detected by windows. The machine has a BIOS setting to automatically choose the primary video card, or to disable the primary when a PCI-e card is installed (which it is). Windows cannot see DisplayPort #2 and #3 no matter what I do. I have tried the Windows Drivers, latest nVidia Drivers - no dice. I am assured that this video card cannot break in this way. I'm plum out of ideas. I've tried reseating the video card. I've contacted Dell and they've remoted in and looked around - threw their arms up after two hours. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. All four monitors are 1600x1200 Dell monitors.

  Hi! I think there is a problem in php's OOP implementation. So in my opinion it's not right because we are doing override in both cases, and these both cases are equal, so it seems like it's a bug... • nginx proxy to different path

  I've read through the documentation for nginx's HttpProxyModule, but I can't figure this out: I want it so that if someone visits, for example http://ss.example.com/1339850978, nginx will proxy them http://dl.dropbox.com/u/xxxxx/screenshots/1339850978.png. If I was to just use this line in my config file: proxy_pass http://dl.dropbox.com/u/xxxxx/screenshots/;, then they would have to append the .png themselves. tia, David.

• Problem when reading input in C

  I've made a Linked List. Its elements keep both previous and next items' address. It gets commands from an input file. It detects the command and uses the following statement as a parameter. (text: add_to_front john - means: add_to_front(john)) Code: http://pastebin.com/KcAm1y3L When I try to give the commands from an input file it gives me same output over and over. However, if I write inputs in main() manually, it works. • What is blocking incoming packets to port 67?

  I have a DSP connected to a Windows 7 laptop by Ethernet. The laptop has all firewalls disabled (I've even tried stopping the Windows firewall service and DHCP). The DSP is sending well-formed BOOTP broadcast packets every 3 seconds to port 67. Wireshark running on the laptop sees these BOOTP packets coming in. I have a program running on the laptop with a socket successfully bound to port 67. I can see this using CurrPorts.exe. Nothing else is shown as accessing port 67. The program never sees any packets coming in. If I run a program in the DSP that sends ordinary UDP packets to port 67, Wireshark sees them coming in and reports that they are corrupt BOOTP packets, but now, my program gets them. Any idea what's going on here?

• Drive Shows No Files But Half Space Gone

  I have a 500 GB USB drive. When I go to Windows Explorer or Finder, the drive shows that about half the drive is free. However, when I open either drive in Windows 7 or OS X, no files how up. I have tried to look at the files through the command line and nothing shows. A while back, I hooked it up to my MacBookPro and there was a quick message that said the drive was not ejected properly, blah, blah. And of course I did not read the message and hit OK. It there any way to get back my files from the drive?

• OpenVPN to connect remote networks, peer to peer instead of client/server possible?

  I would like to connect two remote networks using OpenVPN. I am very new to this we are very small and don't have a sys/network admin. What are the possible setups to have both networks both live on a common LAN via OpenVPN? I would prefer to use the UDP peer model rather than client/server. Is there a way to set that up instead? I can't see how because no computer on existing network A has a routable address to any computer on existing network B and vice versa.

• Make GRUB automatically boot Ubuntu

  I am running a dual-boot with Ubuntu (10.10) and Windows 7. Recently I edited my /boot/grub/grub.cfg file to only show one version of Ubuntu (as opposed to several kernel versions) and Windows, simply by commenting out all other menu entries. My question is if I can edit GRUB to just boot a specific entry automatically. I tried removing all other menu entries, but GRUB still showed the menu with only one entry. I've also considered just setting the timeout to either 0 or 1 second, as this would basically achieve the same thing. What is the best way to do this?

• Pasting images into gmail from clipboard, shows fine when sent, but arrives as text

  I have had consistent problems with pasting images into Gmail. I use Firefox (just in case that is relevant, but I wouldn't expect so). The image displays fine as I write it. But when it arrives at my family members Gmail account, it is being displayed in some base64 encoded form as many pages of text with a beginning like: img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAA..... On the receiving end I cannot get the images to display properly.

• Different files on shared partition?

  I am dual-booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.04. My partition scheme looks like this: /dev/sda1 - Windows 8 (nfts) /dev/sda2 - Ubuntu / (ext4) /dev/sda3 - Ubuntu home (ext4) /dev/sda5 - swap /dev/sda6 - Shared data partition (exfat) (First off, yes I do have exfat libraries installed on Ubuntu) I created some PNG images in Windows and saved them on my shared partition. From Ubuntu, I edited the images in GIMP and saved them (replacing the ones on the shared partition). When I boot into Windows, the files appear unchanged - exactly like they did before I edited them from Ubuntu. I even added a folder and deleted some other files, but none of these changes exist in Windows. When I boot into Ubuntu, all of the changes are still there. It is as if Windows is caching the old file structure... How is this possible? Thanks in advance. • Windows 7 can't see wireless printer

  I have a P1102W printer from HP. I have a Windows 7 machine. I have a MacBook Pro. I setup the printer following the instructions from the Windows 7 machine. I am able to print from the Mac but not the Windows 7 machine. And to add, I am not able to print from any Windows 7 machines. The MacBook Pro address is 198.168.2.115, the Windows machine is 192.168.2.117, and the printer in 192.168.2.140. I can ping the printer from the Mac. I can ping the Windows 7 machine from the mac. I can ping the mac from the windows 7 machine. When I try to ping the printer from the Windows 7 machine I get destination unreachable. I can browse to the printer IP address from the mac and not the Windows 7. I have turned off the firewall on the Windows 7 machine and turned on network sharing. Is there something else I am missing. I can connect the printer with a USB cable to the Windows machine and print. I can not get the Windows machine to see the printer even though they are on the same network.

• Adding an ADO.NET Entity Data Model throws build errors

  I am using Visual Studio 2013 express. I create a new project and then I add a database to that project. But, when I add an ADO.NET Entity Framework model to that project and then run the program, I get the following four build errors listed below. To try to remedy this myself, I added the namespaces 'System.Data.Entity' and 'System.Data.Entity.Design', but that didn't help. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed the Nuget package. I also uninstalled and re-installed Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows Desktop. But these measures didn't help the situation either. Please note that I used to use the Entity Data model just fine. But it was around the time that I did a system restore on my computer, and when I updated VS 2013 with an update offered on the start page, and finally, when I signed up for MS Azure, that I started running into the problem described above. Now I would think that uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio 2013, and then installing the 'Nuget' Package would solve all problems. What am I missing here? The errors mentioned above are: Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Infrastructure' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data.Entity' (are you missing an assembly reference?) • Why is iPhone mail much faster than Mail.app?

  It is noticeably faster to send and receive mail on my iPhone than on my MacBook, both through a Gmail IMAP account. (I'm still using Leopard, though.) I have a few rules set up in Mail, but it seems like the slowdown on the Mac is in the communication to Google's servers. Any explanations?

• Hard Drive missing drive space

  I have a 500 GB hard drive which I previously attached to my Mac. I detached the drive without going through the eject procedure. When I did this a message showed up, which of course I did not read. I could not use the drive until I formatted again. Now, when I attach the drive it says it is formatted NTFS and has 280.39 of 500 GB free. When I open the drive in Windows Explorer, Finder, or in Linux, is only shows a handful of files totaling 54 MB. How can I find out what is taking up all the space.

  I have looked and searched for some guidance on how to start at a low point in a path and walk up (or 'back'), until I find a folder with the name I am searching for. The FileVisitor class looks like it ought to be able to help me, but it only seems to work from head to toe. Is there something that someone could point me to? I need to query the database and retrieve all Company objects with employees called "John" but whose last name does NOT contain "Foo". I did go as far as to make the following predicate: [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"ANY employee.name = 'John'"]; How do I get to filter only by companies whose Johns don't have "Foo" in their last names?

  What would be the most concise/readable way in a velocity template to join multiple fields with a separator while leaving out empty or null Strings without adding excess separators? As an example we have a tooltip or appointments that goes like: Appointment ($number) [with $employee] [-] [$remarks] [-] [$roomToVisit] Where I used brackets to indicate optional data. When filled in it would normally show as Appointment (3) with John - ballroom - serve Java coffee When $remarks is empty but $roomToVisit is not, this becomes: Appointment (3) with John - ballroom When $remarks is "serve Java coffee" but $roomToVisit is empty we get: Appointment (3) with John - serve Java coffee When both are empty: Appointment (3) with John Bonus: also make the field prefix optional. When only $employee is empty we should get: Appointment (2) serve Java coffee - ballroom Ideally I would like the velocity template to look very similar to the first code box. If this is not possible, how would you achieve this with a minimum of distracting code tags? Similar ideas (first is much more verbose): Join with intelligent separators velocity: do something except in last loop iteration

  I love Dickens, warts and all. Sometimes he is sententious, and (like the mediocre modern I am) at such points I am willing to listen non-ironically. This bit here struck me hard enough to stop and write it down: I mean a man whose hopes and aims may sometimes lie (as most men's sometimes do, I dare say) above the ordinary level, but to whom the ordinary level will be high enough after all if it should prove to be a way of usefulness and good service leading to no other. All generous spirits are ambitious, I suppose, but the ambition that calmly trusts itself to such a road, instead of spasmodically trying to fly over it, is of the kind I care for. It is Woodcourt's kind. (John Jarndyce to Esther Summerson, Bleak House, ch. 60) Woodcourt is, of course, one of the heroes of the story. It is a heroism that is attractive to me. Here is a similar idea, from the Screwtape Letters. In the satirically inverted logic of that book, the “Enemy” is God, the enemy of the devils but the author of good: The Enemy wants to bring the man to a state of mind in which he could design the best cathedral in the world, and know it to be the best, and rejoice in the, fact, without being any more (or less) or otherwise glad at having done it than he would be if it had been done by another. (C.S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters, ch. 14) Though I will be happy with a good Bazaar, I also dream of Cathedrals. Put whatever name you like on it, as long as I get some part in the fun of building a good one.
