• Sharepoint 2010 and Samba LDAP groups

  The setup: Windows 2008 SP2 Sharepoint 2010 Foundation Samba 3 "Domain" I'm trying to use the Samba LDAP users & groups we already have to access to Sharepoint. I can successfully authenticate using the Samaba accounts (getting the "Error: Access Denied" message as the user has no permissions). So Sharepoint can clearly see and use the existing accounts/groups. What I can't do is be authorised as in the grant permissions interface, Sharepoint now fails to match the account (I get an "No Exact match found..."). Is there a way of getting the Sharepoint permissions interface to recognise and use our existing Samba LDAP accounts? I get it - don't use Samaba, use AD. If I had that option I would, but I don't.

• Setting up DNS in WHM/cPanel

  I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, but I'm sure this is a simple fix. I setup WHM/cPanel for the first time on my VPS and understand how DNS works for the most part (or so I thought). I created under the main domain name 2 nameservers (ns1.maindomain.com & ns2.maindomain.com). I have 2 IP address for my sever so each one points to a unique IP: ns1.maindomain.com => 198.x.x.204 ns2.maindomain.com => 198.x.x.205 I also set up reverse DNS with my hosting provider. When I put in my two nameservers under another domain (secondary domain), GoDaddy states that the nameservers are invalid. Any ideas on why this is or any configurations in cPanel that need to be made?

• How to set Visio 2003 Trusted Locations

  I see the option in Visio 2003 to only trust macros stored in trusted locations, but I can't find any way to set up what these trusted locations are. My problem is I have a template file that's not signed in the VBA project but the VBA project is locked (so I can't just sign it myself). So, there are only two ways I can stop the warning: lower my security settings so anything with macros will run (not a good idea) Tell Visio that the template is in a trusted location (if this is even possible)

• Get sudoers information for all users on a server

  I want to collect information on what sudoers actions a user can perform on a server. From what I've read, you can do this with the command sudo -l -U username. However, one server that I have has a slightly older version of sudo (1.6.7p5) and the -U option doesn't seem to exist (I don't own the server so I can't just upgrade to a newer version of sudo). Has anyone ever had to collect sudoers information for all users on a server? How would you recommend doing it?

• How can I port forward with an airport extreme and a NAT enabled modem?

  I run an Actiontec HD701D modem with NAT to an Airport extreme base station to laptop etc. As you might expect I get double NAT issues. I tried a lot of different things to forward a port, but no luck. Currently the airport is in bridge mode letting the modem handle the NAT, but still can't forward the port. Also to note: firewall is off on the router, firewall is set to allow the application in OSX 10.6.3 and I did forward the port in the router. No luck.

  Up until a month ago, my girlfriend has used MobileMe to backup all the files on her MacBook. This turned out terribly when a quirk of MobileMe caused it to erase all of her files on MobileMe, and then sync the newly-erased MobileMe down to her computer, erasing everything. A week's worth of college essays and CS homework were gone. Now, I am terrified of any commercial cloud-backup solutions because of the possibility of this happening. Going off the list provided in these answers, could you please help me find a good backup service that is completely one-way? I want a service where there is literally not a single line of code that has the possibility of writing to my computer's drive. I want a pure one-way backup service.

  I would like to map ip address to specific localhost interfaces (e.g. 23.45.66.77 = 127.0.3.3). For named hosts I can use the hosts file. Naturally this doesn't work for IP address. This has to work in windows, the only option I've found so far is implementing a TAP/TUN driver like openvpn does. Are there any other options?

• Why does my exchange message filtering rule not work?

  I have two rules set up to sort incoming bug reports. The first is specific to a single device: Apply this rule after the message arrives sent to SMS Distribution and with <source_device_number>: in the body move it to the BugReports\<source_device_number> folder ..and the second is a catch-all for everything else: Apply this rule after the message arrives sent to SMS Distribution move it to the BugReports folder For some reason though, the first rule never seems to act even though it's higher in the list. • Seasgate GoFlex NAS + Horrible Speed = Bad Experience

  I am having issues with transfer speeds from my desktop PC to my NAS. I have my NAS hooked up to a Gigabit Gateway as well as my Desktop with Cat 5e. I see up to 4.0 MB/Second Transfer Rates, the normal is about 2.5 MB/Seconds. There is 3 Partitions on my NAS, Public, Private, Backup. When I transfer from Private to Public I see the speeds above. If its under the same partition almost instant. I was wondering if the speeds I am seeing is in due to my Computer or the NAS. I was looking into building my own Media Server in due to these horrible speeds. Is their anything I can do in the mean time to speed this up? • Postfix - How to configure to send these emails?

  I want my mailserver to send mail from my local application "from" any user supplied email address "to" my own address, say "[email protected]". The MX records for "mysite.com" actually point to a different server, even though the outgoing mainserver is running with mydomain set as "mysite.com". Perhaps this is part of the problem? postfix is currently causing a SMTPRecipientsRefused error within the python application. Can anyone point me to what to change in the configuration? • Why do server administrators not open up IMAP on an Exchange server?

  In a corporate environment running Exchange and Outlook clients connecting to it why do server administrators not allow IMAP to be turned on for those that would like to connect to the server using IMAP? • Connecting a USB laptop to a RJ45 serial port

  We are about to get our first managed switch at work (Procurve 2520G-24-PoE), and this lowly programmer gets to put on his admin hat and try to configure it. The switch has an RJ45 serial port for console access. My laptop has USB ports but no serial port. In fact, there isn't a single computer in the office with a serial port. I've seen USB-to-DB9 adapters, but I need to go from USB to RJ45 (serial). How would I go about accomplishing this? Do I need two adapters? Will USB-to-DB9 and then DB9-to-RJ45 work? • How to tell which physical disks have bootable MBR?

  The computer I am using right now has 6 physical disks attached. Using the BIOS's "select boot device" functionality I have discovered that I can boot off 3 of these disks into the exact same bootloader. This means that all of these disks have the bootable flag set on their MBR, even though I had been under the impression that only 2 of them are in fact bootable. My question is: is there an easy way to check which disks have a bootable MBR with a command line tool or some OS utility? I am aware of the DISKPART tool and its basic functionality, but I haven't found how to view the information I need. The OS is Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with SP1.

• Updated my WAMP Server and MySQL is eating up 580mB of memory

  I updated my dev-box's WAMPSERVER, and along with updating PHP and Apache, MySQL updated to '5.6.12'. After doing that, I copied the data folder from my old (5.1.36) install to the new one and now MySQL takes up 580mB which is way too much, since I'm the only person using it (Locally) and there are only 20 or so databases on it, none of which have 'memory' tables. How can I get this down to a decent amount? • On Mac OS X how can I monitor what is using my internet connection?

  I've got a relatively limited broadband connection (I live miles from the nearest exchange) and from time to time net access (but nothing else) slows to a near crawl. I know from a bit of monitoring software that the connection is being fairly heavily used which would explain it but I don't know what's using it. There are certainly plenty of things which might (these days there are dozens of apps that will either regularly or infrequently check data or download updates) but how can I find out? I'm happy to pay (a small amount of) money if needed, though in that case I'd rather it were a recommendation that me just Googling for something.

• Monitoring tools that can take high rate and high volume?

  We're using Cacti with RRDTool to monitor and graph about 100,000 counters spread across about 1,000 Linux-based nodes. However, our current setup generally only gives us 5-minute graphs (with some data being minute-based); we often make changes where seeing feedback in "near real time" would be of value. I'd like approximately a week of 5- or 10-second data, a year of 1-minute data, and 5 years of 10-minute data. I have SSD disks and a dual-hexa-core server to spare. I tried setting up a Graphite/carbon/whisper server, and had about 15 nodes pipe to it, but it only has "average" for the retention function when promoting to older buckets. This is almost useless -- I'd like min, max, average, standard deviation, and perhaps "total sum" and "number of samples" or perhaps "95th percentile" available. The developer claims there's a new back-end "in beta" that allows you to write your own function, but this appears to still only do 1:1 retention (when saving older data, you really want the statistics calculated into many streams from a single input. Also, "in beta" seems a little risky for this installation. If I'm wrong about this assumption, I'd be happy to be shown my error! I've heard Zabbix recommended, but it puts data into MySQL or some other SQL database. 100,000 counters on a 5 second interval means 20,000 tps, and while I have an SSD, I don't have an 8-way RAID-6 with battery backup cache, which I think I'd need for that to work out :-) Again, if that's actually something that's not a problem, I'd be happy to be shown the error of my ways. Also, can Zabbix do the single data stream - promote with statistics thing? Finally, Munin claims to have a new 2.0 coming out "in beta" right now, and it boasts custom retention plans. However, again, it's that "in beta" part -- has anyone used that for real, and at scale? How did it perform, if so? I'm almost thinking about using a graphing front-end (such as Graphite) and rolling my own retention backend with a simple layer on top of mmap() and some stats. That wouldn't be particularly hard, and would probably perform very well, letting the kernel figure out the balance between frequency of flushing to disk and process operations. Any other suggestions I should look into? Note: it has to have shown itself able to sustain the kinds of data loads I'm suggesting above; if you can point at the specific implementation you're referencing, so much the better!

• Port forwarding with multiple IP's

  I work at a company which uses a Fortigate 60 router, something I'm not really familiar with. Everything worked fine with it until a week ago when Comcast came in and replaced our modem. It seemed as though the process went smoothly - our connection came back up and our static IP remained the same. However, none of our port forwarding is working. What has me confused is the Comcast modem apparently has two IP addresses. The WAN2 interface for it in the Fortigate router is set to 10.1.10.10. However, all of our port forwarding settings are set to an external IP address of 10.1.10.50. Now this setup used to work fine, so something with the Comcast modem must have changed. How can I find out what? I tried setting a computer to a local IP of 10.1.10.15 so I could open up the web interface for the modem, but I can't even ping 10.1.10.10 when I do that. Any ideas?   From Wikipedia: Most private trackers monitor how much users upload or download, and in most situations, enforce a minimum upload-to-download ratio. How exactly can a tracker figure out how much data was uploaded and downloaded by each user? My understanding is that a BitTorrent tracker is merely a registry of users that are currently downloading/seeding and that peers, once connected, transfer data directly. So I wouldn't think that the tracker would know anything about the amount of data transferred, much less, where it came from.

• Technology mash: is this possible?

  I'm in the process of setting up my own DNS+hosting on a couple of VPS and my home machines, mostly for academic/learning purposes, but also for convenient accessing of my files, hosting my personal websites, private git repositories etc. I've got a main web server with DNS, and a slave DNS server. I've also got a couple of machines at home doing file hosting, video streaming and all that fun stuff. I'm intending to use my VPS's to provide myself with a dynamic DNS system so that I can point mydomain.com at my DNS servers, with home.mydomain.com going into my home network via a raspberry pi. HOWEVER.... I've not got access to the network infrastructure at home (rented accommodation with managed internet), so I can't forward the ports on the router to my own machines. As such, I'm wondering if it's possible to route all the traffic via an SSH/HTTP tunnel through one of the VPS? My plan is to have the raspberry pi provide a VPN into my home network. The raspberry pi uses SSH to connect to the VPS, and the VPS forwards any traffic to home.mydomain.com via the tunnel to the raspberry pi. Is this even possible, and how do I go about it? I don't mind getting my hands dirty with coding and low level tools, I'm just not sure where to start or what the best way to go about it is.

• How can I make a VB script execute every time Windows starts up?

  My goal is to copy INI.file each time Windows XP is started up or rebooted. The following VB script copies INI.file from a local directory to C:\INI_DIR. I tried to copy the VB script to C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, but it doesn't get activated. Is it not the right path?
