  • Why did I loose access to the mailboxes on my old web/mail host after changing to a new one but keeping old MX values

    So I changed the NS records with registrar to point at the new webhosts DNS servers and edited the SOA record there, deleting the new hosts default MX records and instead putting in the old ones for the old web\mail hosts. The website A record is however pointing at the new webhosts servers and the site comes up fine. But none of this should cause me to loose access to mailboxes on my old hosts mail server right? I log into the control panel on the old host, all the mailboxes are there, all the passwords are fine but I can't log in using either webmail or pop3, says incorrect log-in/password. I even created a new mailbox and password for it respectively, but it would not let me log in. For what its worth I did not change\delete the records for 'A' on the old webhost zone file, since I am not hosting the site with them anymore and NS records are pointing to other hosts DNS servers/zone file so that shouldn't matter right? The old hosts mailserver is also not simply down, I can tell because through the control panel I setup a mail forward for one of the existing inboxes and when sending mail to it, it receives it and forwards it fine. So from this I can deduce that I have correctly inputted the old hosts MX records into the zone file hosted on the new hosts DNS and the mail is being sent to the old hosts mail server(s) and is successfully forwarded by it. But why can't I log into those account/inboxes anymore ?

  • Is it possible to combine a list of torrents into one torrent with many files, keeping the seeds?

    Let's say you have all the episodes of FOO series that you downloaded as they were out, so you have like 20 torrents. Now let's say you want to make a bundle torrent with all the files, call it "FOO Season 1", and then send it to someone. One way would be to create a new torrent with all the episodes, but you would lose all the seeds from the current torrents, and you also couldn't seed people that want to download single episodes. Is this possible with the BitTorrent protocol?

  • How to use routing in a ASP MVC website to localize in two languages - But keeping exiting URLs

    We have a couple ASP MVC websites just using the standard VS templates default settings - Working as wanted. But now I want to localize these website ( They are now in Dutch and I will add the English language ) I would like to use routing and not Resource because: 1. Languages will differ in content, numbers of pages, etc. 2. The content is mostly text. I would like the URLs to look some thing like this - www.domain.com/en/Home/Index, www.domain.nl/nl/Home/Index. But the last one should also work with - www.domain.nl/Home/Index - Witch is the exciting URLs. I have implemented Phil Haacks areas ViewEngine from this blogpost - http://haacked.com/archive/2008/11/04/areas-in-aspnetmvc.aspx. But only putting the English website in the areas and keeping the Dutch in old structure. Witch are served as Phils default fallback. But the problem is here that I have to duplicate my controllers for both language's. So I tried the work method described in this tread - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1712167/asp-net-mvc-localization-route. It works OK with the ?en? and /nl/ but not with the old URLs.   • How do you handle the deletion of your model working with ViewModels and keeping them in sync ?

    Hello, these could be my entity relations: 1 Pupil has 1 Chair 1 Pupil has N Documents 1 Pupil has N Marks 1 Pupil has N IncidentReports etc... So with that sample I get 4 IEnumerable from my database put each into an ObservableCollection. Now I have 4 different Views each bound to one of those 4 collections. Lets assume I delete a single PupilViewModel in the AdministrationController which is the only View where I can delete a PupilViewModel. Now I have to inform 3 other Controller and their ObservableCollections about the one deleted PupilViewModel to keep the whole application synchronized... thats stupid somehow. Do you have any good advice on that scenario? AND it gets even worse. If I delete a schoolclass I have to sync the pupils everywhere AND the documents or incidentreports or marks... gush... o_O

  • Keeping a database structure up to date in a project where code is on subversion?

    I have been working with Subversion for a while now, and it's been incredible for the management of my projects, and even to help managing the deployment to several different servers, but there is just the one thing that still annoys me. Whenever I make any changes to the database structure, I need to update every server manually, I have to keep track of any changes I made, and because some of my servers run branches of the project (modifications that are still being worked on, or were made for different purposes), it's a bit awkward. Until now, I've been using a "database.sql" file, which is a dump of the database structure for a specific revision. But it just seems like such a bad way to manage this. And I was wondering, how does everyone else manage their MySQL databases when they're working on a project and using Subversion?

  • Keeping a large volume of data in Session - Suggestions / alternatives?

    I'm developing a web app for which the client wants us to query their data as little as possible. The data will be coming from a Microsoft CRM instance. So we've agreed that data will only be queried as and when it is needed, therefore if a web user wants to see a list of contacts (for example) that list is fetched into a local DataTable. Then if a new contact is created on the website the new contact is sent to CRM and added to the local DataTable at the same time. Likewise for edits. If the user then looks at their contacts again the data will just come from the local DataTable. At the moment local data is being kept in Session but my concern is that too much memory will start being used up. However traffic is expected to be pretty small, perhaps no more than 20 concurrent users so am I worrying about nothing or is there a better way you can suggest to handle this?

The query for user1 would return something like: channel.id | channel.title | subscribed --------------------------------------- 1 channel1 True 2 channel2 False 3 channel3 False 4 channel4 True This is a best-case result, but since I have absolutely no clue as how to accomplish the subscribed column, I've been instead trying to get the particular users id in the rows where the user has a subscription and where a subscription is missing, just leave it blank. The database engine that I'm using together with SQLalchemy atm. is sqlite3 I've been scratching my head over this for two days now, I've no problem joining together all three by way of the subscription table but then all of the channels where the user does not have a subscription gets omitted. I hope I've managed to describe my problem sufficiently, thanks in advance.

  • What's keeping this timer in scope? The anonymous method?

    Ok, So I have a method which fires when someone clicks on our Icon in a silverlight application, seen below: private void Logo_MouseLeftButtonUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { e.Handled = true; ShowInfo(true); DispatcherTimer autoCloseTimer = new DispatcherTimer(); autoCloseTimer.Interval = new TimeSpan(0, 0, 10); autoCloseTimer.Tick +=new EventHandler((timerSender,args) => { autoCloseTimer.Stop(); ShowInfo(false); }); autoCloseTimer.Start(); } Whats meant to happen is that the method ShowInfo() opens up a box with the company info in and the dispatch timer auto closes it after said timespan. And this all works... But what I'm not sure about is because the dispatch timer is a local var, after the Logo_MouseLeftButtonUp method finishes, what is there to keep the dispatch timer referenced and not availible for GC collection before the anonymous method is fired? Is it the reference to the ShowInfo() method in the anonymous method? Just feels like some thing I should understand deeper as I can imagine with using events etc it can be very easy to create a leak with something like this. Hope this all makes sense! Andy.

    Hi, I recieve a Stream and need to pass in a IEnumerable to another method. public static void streamPairSwitchCipher(Stream someStream) { ... someStreamAsIEnumerable = ... IEnumerable returned = anotherMethodWhichWantsAnIEnumerable(someStreamAsIEnumerable); ... } One way is to read the entire Stream, convert it to an Array of bytes and pass it in, as Array implements IEnumerable. But it would be much nicer if I could pass in it in such a way that I don't have to read the entire Stream before passing it in. public static IEnumerable<T> anotherMethodWhichWantsAnIEnumerable<T>(IEnumerable<T> p) { ... // Something uninteresting }

  • Favouriting things in a database - most efficient method of keeping track?

    I'm working on a forum-like webapp where I'd like to allow users to favourite an item so that they can keep track of it, and also so that others can see how many times an item's been favourited. The problem is, I'm unsure on the best practices for databases, which includes this situation. I have two ideas in my head on how to do this: Add an extra column to the user table and store things like so: "|2|5|73|" Add an extra table with at least two columns, one for referencing an item, the other for referencing a user. I feel uncomfortable about going for the second method as it involves an extra table, and potentially more queries would be required. Perhaps these beliefs aren't an issue, as I have little understanding of databases beyond simply working with table layouts and basic queries.

  • Keeping track of changes I make by copying project folders.

    Hello, I'm a beginner so if there is a terminology for what I'm doing I don't know how to search for it. So forgive me if this has been asked before. So here is what I do. Before I make any major code changes, I make a copy of the projects folder and call it "project v6" for example. Then if I really mess things up and cant find a way to undo it, i just go back to the previous folder. This has been working well enough for me but sometimes I forget to do this have have to take 2 steps back. Is there an easier way to do this than the way I am now? Thanks

  • Keeping dates in order when using date_select and discarding year in Rails?

    My app has users who have seasonal products. When a user selects a product, we allow him to also select the product's season. We accomplish this by letting him select a start date and an end date for each product. We're using date_select to generate two sets of drop-downs: one for the start date and one for the end date. Including years doesn't make sense for our model. So we're using the option: discard_year => true To explain our problem, consider that our products are apples. Vendor X carries apples every year from September to January. Years are irrelevant here, and that's why we're using discard_year => true. However, while the specific years are irrelevant, the relative point in time from the start date to the end date is relevant. This is where our problem arises. When you use discard_year => true, Rails does set a year in the database, it just doesn't appear in the views. Rails sets all the years to 0001 in our app. Going back to our apple example, this means that the database now thinks the user has selected September 0001 to January 0001. This is a problem for us for a number of reasons. To solve this, the logic that I need to implement is the following: - If season_start month/date is before season_end month/date, then standard Rails approach is fine. - But, if season_start month/date is AFTER season_end month/date, then I need to dynamically update the database field such that the year for season_end is equal to the year for season_start + 1. My best guess is that I would create a custom method that runs as an after_save or after_update in my products model. But I'm not really sure how to do this. Ideas? Anybody ever had this issue? With passion for automation and elegancy, but limited knowledge/knowhow, im stuck with "my hands in my hair" as we Dutch say, for my current menu system works perfectly, but is a pain in the a*s to update! So, i would appreciate it greatly, if you can suggest how to automate this in php: how to let the php generate the html menu code basing on a flat menu input file with TABS indented. OLD SITUATION <ul> <!-- about 100 of these <li>....</li> lines --> <li><a href="carrot.php"><p class="mnu" style="background-position:0 -820px"><? echo __("carrot juice") ?></p></a></li> <!-- lots of data, with only little bit thats really the menu itself--> </ul a javascript file reads a ul/li structure as input to build menu of format in that ul/li, the items with a hyperlink and sprite-bg position represent webpages, (inside LI) while items without hyperlink and sprite-bg are just headers of that menusection, (inside H6) to highlight the current page in the menu, the javascript menumaker uses an id number. this number corresponds to the consequtive li that is a webpage, skips h6 headers correctly. these h6 headers are only there for when importing sections of the same menu as submenu. non-li headers are not shown in menu, nore counted by the javascript menu for their ID. to know which page should be shown, i have to count from ID 0, the li items till finding the current webpage in the li structure and then manually put it in each webpage! BUT: changing an item in li order, means stupidly re-counting their entire li again! each webpage has an icon (= sprite bg-position numer), which is also used in the webpage. INTENDED RESULT I dream of, once setting what the current webpage is (e.g carrot.php) the menu system automatically "finds" and "counts" the li's and returns the id nr (for proper highlight of main menu); generates the entire menu html, and depending on which headings are set for submenu, (e.g. meals, drinks) generates those submenu (entire section below each given header); ginally adds h5 highlight inside the li of that submenu item. For the menu, i wish an easily readable, simple plain txt menu that is indented with tabs, (each tab is one depth for example) and further tabs follow for url and sprite position of icon.   • How do I make a form transparent while keeping the controls fully visible?

    I would like to have a form in which the controls on the form are fully visible but the form itself is invisible. If I change the form's Opacity, this makes both the form and the controls on it semi-transparent, so this doesn't work. I can't do this by setting the form's TransparencyKey, since I have a PictureBox on the form. If the image in the PictureBox happens to contain pixels that match the TransparencyKey, they appear as openings in the form, which I don't want.

  • MS Access - Keeping track (transacation) of all activity while form is open...

    Hi and thanks for reading. I am not a database/vba guy and my experience is strictly in the JAVA world. However, I need to have an ACCESS form open. While it is open and new data is entered into it (via the underlying query OR any other data changes in other tables based on sql updates attached to buttons on this form), is there a way that I can initiate a transaction so that at the bottom of the form I could have a button that says "Exit and committ changes" or "Cancel and Rollback changes". I guess I thought of a situation where I could do something like: On Form OPEN, START TRANSACTION On "CLICK OK", COMMIT TRANSACTION or ON "CLICK CANCEL" ROLLBACK. I'm aware how to do the Workspace.BeginTransaction but I'm not sure if that will apply if I do it on FORM OPEN and then on FORM CLOSE do the COMMIT/ROLLBACK locgin? Any insight would be great.

  • Problem with modifying a page with ajax, and the browser keeping the unmodified page in cache.

    Hey there, I have a situation where my page loads some information from a database, which is then modified through AJAX. I click a link to another page, then use the 'back' button to return to the original page. The changes to the page through AJAX I made before don't appear, because the browser has the unchanged page stored in the cache. Is there a way of fixing this without setting the page not to cache at all? Thanks :)

    Given a list of lists like this [[1,2,3],[a,b,c,d],[x,y]] generate all permutations of the flattened list, [1,2,3,a,b,c,d,x,y], such that the elements of each sublist occur in the same order. For example, this one is okay [a,1,b,2,x,y,3,c,d] but this one is not [y,1,2,3,a,b,c,x,d] because y must occur after x, that being how x and y are ordered in the original sublist. I believe the number of such lists is determined by the multinomial coefficient. I.e., if there are k sublists, n_i is the length of the ith sublist, and n is the sum of the n_i's then the number of such permutations is n!/(n_i! * ... * n_k!). The question is how to generate those sublists. Pseudocode is great. An actual implementation in your language of choice is even better!
