  • The eval(base64_decode()) virus has infected a server. Would removing executable permissions help solve the issue?

    - by Bravo.I
The eval(base64_decode()) has infected a server. This is a PHP virus that uses the eval function in PHP and replicates itself to all the PHP files on the system as far as I'm certain. Would removing executable permissions help solve the problem?! Please answer really fast, and also, if you've got any better ideas on how to stop this virus.. I'm all ears. The virus has replicated itself to several folders in the directory and most of the other folders are actually several other websites...

  • How does one get rid of fishy behavior in Windows?

    - by Tom Wijsman
After I had boot my computer this morning there suddenly flooded water from the top of the screen, after which some fishes dropped into it. Now I can barely see what I am doing because the water distorts the view. Sometimes the fish follow the cursor so I need to move it away or wait for the fish to mind their own business. This makes it very annoying to use my system. What have I tried? Reboot the system. This caused the water to deplete from the desktop. Upon reboot, the screen was refilled with water and fishes. Attach another monitor. Same problem, fills that monitor as well and gives me extra fish. Clicking the fish. Makes them turn direction. Right clicking the fish. Changes color of the fish, not really useful. I'm locked out of changing the background or screen saver settings. Hence, I had to post the lady below... Safe mode doesn't save me from the fishes. It does give me another background there, but I can't screenshot easily. Other user accounts experience this as well. The Guest account seems to experience more fish than the other accounts. Using HijackThis, OTL Timekeeper List, Syninternal Autoruns, RootKitRevealer, ShellExView and similar tools I can't seem to find any entries that could be it, the Sysinternals tools show everything as verified. I'm suspecting this to be a driver problem. Randomly removing drivers doesn't seem to alleviate the problem. When removing the Graphics Drivers, it makes my screen black. While that could be considered the solution, it's not what I want. Changing the time / date settings does also not seem to affect the fishes. Changing the time a few years in the future, I would have expected the fishes to be dead. But, the same fishes are still there... They simply won't die! Tried to get used to them. They are really bothering me, looks like they require food. I don't know how to give them food, but apparently they get it elsewhere during reboot... Tried to disable my mouse pointer and use the keyboard. This works, they now swim around more randomly. They do put their attention to huge changes on the screen, so I need to type slow. Or otherwise I can't see what I'm tying exactly. Hold my laptop upside down. This seems to affect the water and fishes, but the water stays in the screen. They seem super resistant against water sickness and confusion though... What does the problem look like? What do I need? A way to get rid of these fishes on my screen forever, they are really annoying me a lot and I'm about to crack the screen to see if that makes them escape. Do you have any idea why this problem is occurring? What are my considerations? Buying an USB fish tank could make the fish leave the screen, I am uncertain though whether the fish could leave the screen through the USB cable. Using the FISh (programming language) which seems to provide EXPRESSIVE POWER and EFFICIENT EXECUTION, I can however not find any examples on how to remove fish. What are my Specifications? I'm using a Sony Vaio Fishy laptop. Sony VAIO VGN-Fishy, VAIO. Processor: 1337 MHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, T5432, 1 MB, Intel PM965 Express, 667 MHz. • On a Mac, how are connections (possibly by spyware) made to outside internet addresses during initia

    - by TT
I am trying to secure a Mac after discovering that network links are being established to some unwanted internet sites. Using 'lsof -i' (list open 'files', internet) I have seen that launchd, ntpd, firefox, dropbox and other processes are either 'LISTENING' or have 'ESTABLISHED' links to a site or sites which I suspect have to do with spyware. I have been trying to find startup files and preference lists that initiate thise links but can't find them. I could easily reinstall the OS and restore data from a backup but I'd prefer to know how to fix this as I have six Macs to look after. Thanks...

  • Maybe I'm infected?

    - by aiacet
In the last two weeks, when I was using MPC-HC (Media Player Classic Home Cinema) to watch some "justyfied" episodes, my F-Secure Client Security antivirus software alerted me that there was a threat in file A0027132.exe (the number increased each of the three times that the antivirus found a new threat). All these three threats are now quarantined and the files are: 1) C:/System Volume Information/_restore/{72AACB12-6526-40F2-81D7-69DF5809DD8A}\A0027132.exe 2) D:/System Volume Information/_restore/{72AACB12-6526-40F2-81D7-69DF5809DD8A}\A0027133.exe 3) D:/System Volume Information/_restore/{72AACB12-6526-40F2-81D7-69DF5809DD8A}\A0027134.exe The three threats are recognized like: 1. Backdoor.Generic.360086 2. Trojan.Packed.8707 3. Trojan.Packed.8807 F-secure and the OS are both updated at the last release/virus definition.

  • May I'm infected?

Hello again to everyone and many thanks to all the expert that will read this post and proupose a solution to my problem. In the last tw week, when i saw with MPC-HC (media player classic home cinema) some "justyfied" episodes, my F-Secure Client Security antivirus software alert-me that there is a threat in A0027132.exe file (the number still chanhe and increase each time, 3, that the antivir found a new threat). • How to remove google ads virus from IE?

    - by msbg
I have picked up adware in that shows extra irrelevant google ads. This only happens in Internet Explorer 10, not Firefox or Iron. I have tried some removals for similar viruses with no luck. I have scanned with MalwareBytes, Windows Defender(I am using Windows 8 RTM, so this is the same as MSE), Spybot, Ad Aware, McAfee, Norton, and AVG, with no luck. Here's a screenshot: As you can see, ads are added to the tan area as well as several extra white results, which are especially irrelevant. I like IE10 and would like to keep using it, but these ads are annoying. I'm also worried there may be spyware as well.

  • Can Windows Essentials Remove the JS/Alescruf.C Virus from a Windows PC?

    - by jmort253
A colleague just visited a site which had been hacked by the JS/Alescruf.C trojan virus, which infects HTML via embedded JavaScript. Windows PC's are infected by visiting the site. If my colleague has Windows Essentials, which detected and removed the trojan, is there anything else that he needs to do to make sure the virus is no longer active? Windows Essentials detected the trojan within seconds of visiting the site, and he's running a full system scan to see if it still detects anything.

  • Reliable procedure/tool for removing print drivers in Windows 7 (domain environment)

    - by ultrasawblade
One of the troubleshooting steps in resolving printer-related issues with any version of Windows is to remove installed print drivers and then reinstall the drivers. This is a domain environment and drivers are pulled from a print server. I've had occasion to need to do this on a user's system running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. These procedures don't work: Removing the printer from Devices and Printers (doesn't remove driver obviously) Doing the above, going into Server Properties, and attempting to remove the driver (fails with a "driver in use" error) Opening an empty mmc, adding the Print Management snap-in, and attempting to do the above. Doing sc stop spooler and sc start spooler before doing both of the above Now I know it's possible to remove drivers with the spooler service stopped and then going into the spool directory, as well as deleting registry entries. I'm asking if a tool exists to do this where I can just select the driver in question and it be removed.

  • Removing demo of a program when it insists that the full version be removed first

    - by RCIX
I have a program that i both recently installed the demo for, and just installed the full version of. When i try to uninstall the demo, it says that an existing version of the program was found at the full program's path, and must be removed before the installer can be launched. I just want to uninstall the demo; is there any way without removing the full version of the software? (if it matters, it's Sins of a Solar Empire, but i'm hoping it won't get closed as that's merely incidental)

  • How do Windows 7 encrypted files look like?

    - by Sean Farrell
Ok this is kind of an odd question: How do Windows 7 (Home Premium) encrypted files look like "from the outside"? Now here is the story. An acquaintance of a freind of mine got a nasty virus / scareware. So I wiped out my PC technician cap and went to work on it. What I did was remove the drive from the laptop and put drive into my external drive bay. I scanned the drive and yes it was loaded with stuff. That basically cured the infection and I could start the system back up. To check if it cured the problem I wanted to see the system while running. There where two user accounts, on with a password and one without (both admin users !?!). So I logged into the unprotected user and cleaned up the residual issues, like proxy server to localhost in the browser config. Now I wanted to do the same for the password protected user. What I noticed that from my system and the unprotected user account the files of the protected user looked garbled. The files are something like 12 random alphanum chars, but the folders looked ok. Naive as was thought this might be how encrypted files looked "from the outside". (I never use Microsoft's own security features, so how would I know. TrueCrypt is one big blob.) Since the second user could not be reached, I though sod it and removed the password from the account. (That might have been a mistake, I know.) Now I did the same clean up tasks and all nice and fine; except for the files which where still "encrypted". So I looked into many Windows Encrypted Files recovery posts and not all hope is lost, since I should be able to extract the certificate and with the password regain access to the files. Also note that windows did "only" prompt me that removing the password would be insecure, not that access to encrypted files would be lost, like it is claimed in most recovery articles. Resetting the password did not help and I gave up for the night. The question that nagged me half of the last night was, what if the files are not encrypted, but the scare-ware encrypted / destroyed the files? I don't want to spend hours of work trying to recover files that are not recoverable. The ting is that the user does not remember turning it on and aren't the files marked in blue and the filename is readable? Many thanks for input from users who have more knowledge about WEF...

  • How do I kill a process that keeps respawning?

    - by terabytest
I got infected by a virus. It looks like I removed it, but it somehow injected a few more processes (I can see them in the task manager) that respawn when I kill them (somehow). Is there a way to destroy those process to stop them from respawning, or in the case something else is respawning them, to kill that "something"? I really don't want to format my pc for this. The data in it is very important for me (personal value) so I'd really want to know a way to do this without reinstalling my OS. I'm on Windows Vista 32 bits.

  • How to remove leading whitespace from file and folder names?

    - by timoto
How to remove leading whitespace from file and folder names? (I'm running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.) As provided below by @Lri I was able to remove trailing whitespace using this: #!/bin/bash IFS=$'\n' for d in {1..9}; do find ~/Desktop -name '* ' -depth $d | while read f; do mv "$f" "$(sed 's/ *$//' <<< "$f")" done done Now I'm trying to remove leading whitespace with this: #!/bin/bash IFS=$'\n' for d in {1..9}; do find ~/Desktop -name '* ' -depth $d | while read f; do mv "$f" "$(sed 's/^ *//;s/ *$//' <<< "$f")" done done but it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

  • Remove app in Win7 that was auto-published with Windows Xp Mode

    - by TEEKAY
I have several copies/instances of my xp mode image and have a bunch of apps that were auto-published to Win7. I have since disabled the "auto-publish" apps in the instances but still have the applications listed. What is the correct/best way to clear them out. I read a post somewhere that you can just delete the shortcut in the start menu but I want to remove all links and don't know if that would suffice? Thanks TK

  • App to watch installer and roll back host later?

    - by OverTheRainbow
I'm looking for a Windows application that can watch everything an install programs does to Windows, and can roll it back to what it was like before installing an application. InCtrl5 is useful to know what an installer did, but doesn't provide a way to return the host to its previous state. I'd like to avoid having to restore a host using eg. CloneZilla just for a small application. The goal is to make it fast to test an application in a test lab. Does someone know of an application that can do this? Edit: I wasn't specific enough: I need a way to totally remove an application but keep all other changes I made after installing the application. Edit: After checking a few of them, I settled on Cleanse Uninstaller, which was capable of removing the whole of an application, although it doesn't watch when it's installed.

  • Viruses on external hard drive -- how to clean files?

    - by Jade
Last year my Dell laptop caught some pretty nasty viruses; I saved all my important stuff on an external hard drive. In an unrelated turn of events, I replaced my Dell with a Mac and have been able to retrieve data from the hard drive without trouble. The problem is, I'm sure the hard drive has a few lingering viruses and I really don't want to infect any more PCs with it. I was planning to reformat it anyway, but I'd like to be able to save my files. Would transferring those files to my Mac and then scanning them for Windows viruses before throwing them back onto the newly reformatted hard drive be enough?

  • Cannot Delete an Empty Folder in Windows 7

    - by Mike Gates
I've used this question's answer by user "Moab" to give myself permission to delete an empty folder, so that I no longer get "accessed denied". However, now when I try removing this folder, I get a message that says "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." This is merely my "eclipse" (IDE) folder that I totally emptied out and am trying to delete, but for some reason cannot. I've tried quite a few things: Via Windows Explorer: Right Click - Delete Via Command Prompt RD /S /Q eclipse del /F eclipse rmdir /S eclipse I'm out of ideas, and I'd really like to delete this folder without having to install any software. I've done a bit of research and this is all I found that I could try. Does anyone have any other ideas?

  • Suggestions for cleaning up the mess after removing the "system tool" virus?

    - by Ross
Hi! Last night I got infected with the "System Tool" virus. For those who don't know it disallows the user from executing any software, changes the desktop, stops all security software from running, and continually requests that you buy a Trojan security software. It took me a few hours but I finally managed to remove the software. To do this I went into my Ubuntu partition and searched out files that had been created around the time that I got infected and deleted the executable. Then I went back into my W7 partition and ran an MBAM full scan, an MSE full scan, an AVG bootable USB scan, and ran a ClamAV scan from my Ubuntu partition (Together these found 3 more infected executables). I also ran a Ccleaner full sweep and the registry cleaner just in case. I think I have found all of the problems but am still concerned that there might be a payload leftover from the virus that I didn't find. Do you have any suggestions of what else I can do to be sure. Just FYI I use W7 64 bit and MSE as my primary antivirus. I was using chrome when I got infected and it seems that it was due to a slightly out of date Java installation (MSE gave me a warning that the website had used a Java exploit and then my desktop changed to the classic "System Tools" desktop) Thank you very much for your help.
