  After hitting F8 before startup and selecting "enable boot logging," I let windows try to start up and blue screen / restart (which I'm currently trying to troubleshoot) - I run the 'repair' function, open a command prompt, and try to find the boot log file, which I expected to be at %SystemRoot%\ntbtlog.txt - but it's not. Where is it? PS - probably makes no difference, but this is windows 7 ultimate 64bit to be precise.

I mean, different packages use total different naming specification. Here are the major questions: Why there are ubuntu in them, and there are not? what all the special -~+ mean? alpha and build, dfsg, what are they? Can I just use them casually? vim and other packages have 2:, what does that mean? How version comparison works, since they can be so different? Can anyone please explain this to me?   Exactly the opposite of http://superuser.com/questions/101482/global-scroll-acceleration-in-windows, is there a way to disable scroll-accelartion on windows (touchpad -- maybe from lenovo drivers). It's heck of annoying -- using no accelartion but high sensitivity like on linux is so much more precise. ( With this silly acceleration, I either have incredibly slow scrolling, or scrolling so fast it skips whole chunks of text at once. Speed control but not acceleration control. Could say the same for mouse cursor, though that's less annoying. )

Are VMs usually used to run the backbone (actual code) of DFS structure ?   When provisioning new Ubuntu Precise (12.04) servers, the hostname they're getting seems to be generated from the DNS search path, not a reverse lookup on the hostname. Take the following configuration BIND is configured with the hostname, and reverse name Normal zone $TTL 600 $ORIGIN srv.local.net. @ IN SOA ns0.local.net. hostmaster.local.net. ( 2014082101 10800 3600 604800 600 ) @ IN NS ns0.local.net. @ IN MX 5 mail.local.net. my-new-server IN A 10.32.2.30 And reverse @ IN SOA ns0.local.net. hostmaster.local.net. ( 2014082101 10800 3600 604800 600 ) @ IN NS ns0.local.net. $ORIGIN 32.10.in-addr.arpa. 30.2 IN PTR my-new-server.srv.local.net. Then DHCPD is configured to hand out static leases based on mac addresses like so subnet 10.32.2.0 netmask 255.255.254.0 { option subnet-mask 255.255.254.0; option routers 10.32.2.1; option domain-name-servers 10.32.2.1; option domain-name "util.of1.local.net of1.local.net srv.local.net"; site-option-space "pxelinux"; option pxelinux.magic f1:00:74:7e; if exists dhcp-parameter-request-list { option dhcp-parameter-request-list = concat(option dhcp-parameter-request-list,d0,d1,d2,d3); } group { option pxelinux.configfile "pxelinux.cfg/pxeboot"; host my-new-server { fixed-address my-new-server.srv.local.net; hardware ethernet aa:aa:aa:bb:bb:bb; } } } So the hostname should be my-new-server.srv.local.net, however when building a Ubuntu 12.04 node, the hostname ends up as my-new-server.util.of1.local.net When building Lucid (10.04) hosts, the hostname will be correct, it's only on Precise/12.04 nodes we have the problem. Doing a normal and reverse lookup on the host and IP returns the correct result Sams-MacBook-Pro:~ sam$ host my-new-server my-new-server.srv.local.net has address 10.32.2.30 Sams-MacBook-Pro:~ sam$ host my-new-server.srv.local.net my-new-server.srv.local.net has address 10.32.2.30 Sams-MacBook-Pro:~ sam$ host 10.32.2.30 30.2.32.10.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer my-new-server.srv.local.net. The contents of the hosts file is incorrect too 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 my-new-server.util.of1.local.net of1.local.net srv.local.net my-new-server So it looks like when it creates the hosts file, it puts the entire contents of the DNS search path into the local address so the FQDN according to the server is the short hostname as defined, then the first domain in the search path. Is there a way to get around this behaviour, or fix this so it gets the hostname correctly? It's picking up the first part of the hostname, then the rest is wrong.

Precise error message 'No thesaurus is available for English (United Kingkdom)' I am indeed, in the UK. I have set Tools Page Editor Options to first UK and then USA - no joy. In truth I don't mind the US thesaurus, it would certainly beat 'No thesaurus'

  This is one of those things that looks like it might have a simple solution but is rather time consuming once you start investigating PyTile, Xnee and the likes. I know, I should just use a tiling window manager etc., but I suppose it can be done in OpenBox, and I am just hoping somebody already has a working solution. Ok, so I want to press a key combination while I am in an OpenBox session (Lubuntu LXDE to be more precise) and have my terminal appear below my then resized Chromium window (say ~60% Chromium and ~40% Terminal).

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) with grub 1.99. I installed on a RAID10 multidevice BTRFS partition. I thought that multidevice support is included in grub for a while but on boot I'm dropped to a initramfs shell, because it fails to mount root ("invalid argument"). This is actually the same message I get if I want to mount a btrfs volume without executing btrfs device scan. Therefore I wonder: Does Ubuntu's grub version even support boot from btrfs mutlidevice ?

• Easy way to switch default sound output device

Currently it takes a very precise right click, a left click, another right click, and two more left clicks. Ideally i could just have it swap with a shortcut key. Now the original is lost, and reconverting to Word using a PDF to word add-on from Microsoft results in many text boxes in the new DOC file. How can I 'flatten' this to remove the text boxes and retain most of the formatting in order to update the contents? Recreating the original formatting would take a long time.

  After bootstrap a environment via manual provisioning, juju give me the following output for juju status: ERROR Unable to connect to environment "manual". Please check your credentials or use 'juju bootstrap' to create a new environment. Error details: illegal base64 data at input byte 9 And doing bootstrap again shows me: WARNING ignoring environments.yaml: using bootstrap config in file "/home/ayrton/.juju/environments/manual.jenv" ERROR illegal base64 data at input byte 9 The first bootstrap shows me no error, but the status crash as above and the second one output is just the base64 error. My juju version is 1.19.4-trusty-amd64, running in trusty 64. The bootstrap environment is a VPS with 1GB of memory, 20GB of hd and precise 64bits. Please, let me know if I can provide any further information.

• Byobu Split Screens attaching to same session

  On a brand new install of Precise, after installing byobu, I'm facing the following behaviour: ie. all internal splits on byobu (using Ctrl+F2) will just attach to the same screen session. What I type on the left is reflected on the right. The solutions on this question while on the same problem do not help me out. I've tried the following: byobu-disable both inside and outside the byobu session byobu new-session byobu shell just runs a new simple screen session as far as I can figure it out. This does not include terminal splits, so it does not help me. byobu -S screen-name lets me create two separate byobu sessions, but split screens lead to duplicates in both.

  Due to some legacy 32 bit libraries being used in postgresql functions I need to get a 32 bit install of Postgresql on a 64 bit native system. But it seems like there is a problem with the multiarch not seeing all.debs as satisfying dependencies. uname -a: 3.8.0-29-generic #42-precise-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 dpkg --print-architecture: amd64 dpkg --print-foreign-architecture: i386 apt-get install postgresql-9.1: returns postgresql : Depends: postgresql-9.1 but it is nto going to be installed postgresql-9.1:i386 : Depends: postgresql-common:i386 but it is not installable Depends: ssl-cert:i386 but it is not installable Depends: locales:i386 but it is not installable etc .. But I have installed ssl-cert_1.0.28ubuntu0.1_all.deb and locales_..._all.deb andpostgresql-common is an all.deb Does anyone have experience installing 32 bit packages on 64 bit systems that depend on packages that are all.debs. Or has anyone installed 32 bit postgres on 64 bit? Any help appreciated.
