  • Is there a best coding style for indentations (same line, next line)?

    I prefer Pascal-like coding style, where the beginning and ending of a code block are on the same column. I think that it is easier to read and to handle cut and paste than the other kind of coding style. The random class will generate 10 letters from a-z and within 10 letter, minimum 2 letters must be a vowels. Scenario 2: When the player 1 and player 2 form a word from A-Z, he will score some points. There will be a score for each letter. I have already assigned the values for A-Z.   • Fast response on first Socket I/O request but slow every other time when communicating with remote serial port

    I'm using sockets to pass Serial commands to a remote device. And the response to that request is sent back and printed out. However, I am having a problem in that the first time it is instant but the rest of the time it can take up to 20 seconds to receive a reply. I am testing it by doing curl -d "d=test" http://localhost:8888/ Does anybody know how to get that data in groovy?

The question is about the first 3 lines: are those comparisons guaranteed to be on the primitive int, with the Integer auto-unboxed? Are there cases where the primitive would be auto-boxed instead, and reference identity comparisons are performed? (which would all then be false!)

    I need to test, if an instance is exactly of a given type. But it seems that instanceof returns true also if the subtype is tested for the supertype (case 3).     I did a little search on this but couldn't find anything useful. The point being that if String value is either "true" or "false" the return value should be true. In every other value it should be false.     I've had a big problem in some library code, which I've pinned down to a single statement: System.out.println((String) null); Ok, the code doesn't actually look like that, but it certainly calls println with a null argument. Doing this causes my whole applicaio to throw an unexpected NullPointerException. In general, should println throw this exception under that circumstance, or is this non-standard behavior due to a poor implementation of the out instance?
