  • Trying to configure DNS on a Godaddy Virtual Dedicated host, Mediatemple Domain Registration [closed]

    A client of mine purchased VD hosting with Godaddy and a domain name with Mediatemple. I've never configured DNS from scratch, and I'm finding it very difficult to find any sort of explanation on how to go about it. As of right now, Mediatemple is pointing to the Godaddy's ns1.domaincontrol.com and ns2.domaincontrol.com nameservers. The VD hosting on Godaddy (via their Simple Control Panel) has options to "Add a new domain", which brings you through a wizard of sorts that asks you if the domain has already been registered (yes), what it is (dclowd9901.com for this example), create a system username and password for it (with checkboxes for SSH and FTP access), which level of user can administer it, and whether a mail account should be setup. When complete, it also creates a zone file. In this zone file, the Primary nameserver is ns1.dclowd9901.com; the records are as follow (where 12.23.12.34 is the presumed host): @ A 12.23.12.34 @ NS ns1 @ NS ns2 ns1 A 12.23.12.34 ns2 A 12.23.12.34 @ MX mail www A 12.23.12.34 ftp A 12.23.12.34 ssh A 12.23.12.34 mail A 12.23.12.34 If anyone can shed any light on this for me, explain to me the interactions between the registrar and the host and so on, I'd be very grateful.     I am a complete n00b to configuring Jabber/XMPP servers and I am hoping to get some help getting set up. I have done all of this and installed pidgin. I seem to be able set up my "admin-user" in pidgin no problem but when I try to register a new user I get a 403 Fobidden message back from pidgin. Do I need to change the ejabberd.cfg file to allow users to register? If so how do I go about it? If not what do I need to get basic chat and fileshare going?

    A colleague of mine gave me the SQL Server 2008 Standard ISO image and I used that while building a Virtual Machine. Now, when I installed SQL Server with that above mentioned ISO, I did not give it a key and I chose Enterprise Evaluation. So, the instance has now been activated with 180-day expiration. I do have a valid MSDN Subscriber login but when I login and search for SQL Server 2008 it comes up with the download but says No Product Key is required. How do I now enter the product key?

    Does anyone know if there is a way to use JCal Pro and Community Builder together in order to have users register for a specific event? When our new website was designed JCal Pro was implemented with the idea that individuals could look at the calendar and see what events they wanted to sign up for based spots open for that specific day. Now that we have more events and scheduling has become a major issue. For another project we installed CB in order to allow individuals to register and create profiles for an annual event. As I am looking at this nightmare I am living trying to organize various groupings of people I am assuming that there has to be some sort of a way to connect the two up so that those who have a user account through CB could also go in look at the calendar and sign up for an event. There is a JCal plug-in installed in CB however I have not had much luck at figuring out its functionality. I am running: Joomla 1.5.14 JCal Pro version 2.2.7.441 Community Builder: 1.2

    What I'm trying to do: Connect to the internet without registering But! Here's my problem: I can't connect. I used to be able to, now when I try to connect it says "Server not found." I can connect just fine on my other Laptop. I did a test as well. I used a LAN USB adapter and could connect fine, then now I can't connect again. Possibly because I am using uTorrent to download stuff, but I want to connect again Is there anyway I can use some sort of "virtual adapter"-type of connection where it masks my actual adapter? How can I connect to the connection without having to buy more and more Network USB Adapters? Thanks much!

    I'm currently at work and we're having some troubles. We want to create a new domain for our area, but the DHCP server is not in our control. The DHCP server lists DNS as testdomain.com, however we want to make a new domain called testdomain1.com. We've been thinking of fowarding the DNS from testdomain.com to testdomain1.com so that way DHCP doesn't have to be changed. Basically Client requests testdomain1.com DHCP says DNS is at testdomain.com testdomain.com tells client to go to testdomain1.com client registers in AD at testdomain1.com and adds it's A record to DNS at testdomain1.com

I basically want the list view that has the text and check mark to the right, but then an addition button to the left. Right now my list view shows up but the check image is never changed.     I have an israeli spreadsheet reading right to left. When I read the values (using VBA) it places a question mark (?) at the beginning and end of the text, in other words it wraps the text with the question mark (ie ?0123456?). If you type Range("A2").value or .value2 or .text the results are the same. Any idea on how to prevent this?

    This is somewhat against rails convention but I am trying to have one controller that manages both user session authentication and user registration. I am having troubles figuring out how to go about this. So far I am merging the User Controller and the Sessions Controller and having the 'new' method deliver both a new usersession and a new user instance. With the new routes in rails 3 though, I am having trouble figuring out how to generate forms for these items.
