  • Regex: Match opening/closing chars with spaces

    - by Israfel
I'm trying to complete a regular expression that will pull out matches based on their opening and closing characters, the closest I've gotten is ^(\[\[)[a-zA-Z.-_]+(\]\]) Which will match a string such as "[[word1]]" and bring me back all the matches if there is more than one, The problem is I want it to pick up matchs where there may be a space in so for example "[[word1 word2]]", now this will work if I add a space into my pattern above however this pops up a problem that it will only get one match for my entire string so for example if I have a string "Hi [[Title]] [[Name]] [[surname]], How are you" then the match will be "[[Title]] [[Name]] [[surname]]" rather than 3 matches "[[Title]]", "[[Name]]", "[[surname]]". I'm sure I'm just a char or two away in the Regex but I'm stuck, How can I make it return the 3 matches. Thanks

  • Does '[ab]+' equal '(a|b)+' in python re module?

    - by user1477871
    I think pat1 = '[ab]' and pat2 = 'a|b' have the same function in Python(python2.7, windows) 're' module as a regular expression pattern. But I am confused with '[ab]+' and '(a|b)+', do they have the same function, if not plz explain details. ''' Created on 2012-9-4 @author: melo ''' import re pat1 = '(a|b)+' pat2 = '[ab]+' text = '22ababbbaa33aaa44b55bb66abaa77babab88' m1 = re.search(pat1, text) m2 = re.search(pat2, text) print 'search with pat1:', m1.group() print 'search with pat2:', m2.group() m11 = re.split(pat1, text) m22 = re.split(pat2, text) print 'split with pat1:', m11 print 'split with pat2:', m22 m111 = re.findall(pat1, text) m222 = re.findall(pat2, text) print 'findall with pat1:', m111 print 'findall with pat2:', m222 output as below: search with pat1: ababbbaa search with pat2: ababbbaa split with pat1: ['22', 'a', '33', 'a', '44', 'b', '55', 'b', '66', 'a', '77', 'b', '88'] split with pat2: ['22', '33', '44', '55', '66', '77', '88'] findall with pat1: ['a', 'a', 'b', 'b', 'a', 'b'] findall with pat2: ['ababbbaa', 'aaa', 'b', 'bb', 'abaa', 'babab'] why are 'pat1' and 'pat2' different and what's their difference? what kind of strings can 'pat1' actually match?

  • Conditional Regular Expression testing of a CSV

    - by Alastair Pitts
I am doing some client side validation in ASP.NET MVC and I found myself trying to do conditional validation on a set of items (ie, if the checkbox is checked then validate and visa versa). This was problematic, to say the least. To get around this, I figured that I could "cheat" by having a hidden element that would contain all of the information for each set, thus the idea of a CSV string containing this information. I already use a custom [HiddenRequired] attribute to validate if the hidden input contains a value, with success, but I thought as I will need to validate each piece of data in the csv, that a regular expression would solve this. My regular expression work is extremely weak and after a good 2 hours I've almost given up. This is an example of the csv string: true,3,24,over,0.5 to explain: true denotes if I should validate the rest. I need to conditionally switch in the regex using this 3 and 24 are integers and will only ever fall in the range 0-24. over is a string and will either be over or under 0.5 is a decimal value, of unknown precision. In the validation, all values should be present and at least of the correct type Is there someone who can either provide such a regex or at least provide some hints, i'm really stuck!

  • Getting started with character and text processing (encoding, regular expressions)

    - by TK
I'd like to learn foundations of encodings, characters and text. Understanding these is important for dealing with a large set of text whether that are log files or text source for building algorithms for collective intelligence. My current knowledge is pretty basic: something like "As long as I use UTF-8, I'm okay." I don't say I need to learn about advanced topics right away. But I need to know: Bit and bytes level knowledge of encodings. Characters and alphabets not used in English. Multi-byte encodings. (I understand some Chinese and Japanese. And parsing them is important.) Regular expressions. Algorithm for text processing. Parsing natural languages. I also need an understanding of mathematics and corpus linguistics. The current and future web (semantic, intelligent, real-time web) needs processing, parsing and analyzing large text. I'm looking for some resources (maybe books?) that get me started with some of the bullets. (I find many helpful discussion on regular expressions here on Stack Overflow. So, you don't need to suggest resources on that topic.)

  • Matching a Repeating Sub Series using a Regular Expression with PowerShell

    - by Hinch
I have a text file that lists the names of a large number of Excel spreadsheets, and the names of the files that are linked to from the spreadsheets. In simplified form it looks like this: "Parent File1.xls" Link: ChildFileA.xls Link: ChildFileB.xls "ParentFile2.xls" "ParentFile3.xls" Blah Link: ChildFileC.xls Link: ChildFileD.xls More Junk Link: ChildFileE.xls "Parent File4.xls" Link: ChildFileF.xls In this example, ParentFile1.xls has embedded links to ChildFileA.xls and ChildFileB.xls, ParentFile2.xls has no embedded links, and ParentFile3.xls has 3 embedded links. I am trying to write a regular expression in PowerShell that will parse the text file producing output in the following form: ParentFile1.xls:ChildFileA.xls,ChildFileB.xls ParentFile3.xls:ChildFileC.xls,ChildFileD.xls,ChildFileE.xls etc The task is complicated by the fact that the text file contains a lot of junk between each of the lines, and a parent may not always have a child. Furthermore, a single file name may pass over multiple lines. However, it's not as bad as it sounds, as the parent and child file names are always clearly demarcated (the parent with quotes and the child with a prefix of Link: ). The PowerShell code I've been using is as follows: $content = [string]::Join([environment]::NewLine, (Get-Content C:\Temp\text.txt)) $regex = [regex]'(?im)\s*\"(.*)\r?\n?\s*(.*)\"[\s\S]*?Link: (.*)\r?\n?' $regex.Matches($content) | %{$_.Groups[1].Value + $_.Groups[2].Value + ":" + $_.Groups[3].Value} Using the example above, it outputs: ParentFile1.xls:ChildFileA.xls ParentFile2.xls""ParentFile3.xls:ChildFileC.xls ParentFile4.xls:ChildFileF.xls There are two issues. Firstly, the inclusion of the "" instead of a newline whenever a Parent without a Child is processed. And the second issue, which is the most important, is that only a single child is ever shown for each parent. I'm guessing I need to somehow recursively capture and display the multiple child links that exist for each parent, but I'm totally stumped as to how to do this with a regular expression. Amy help would be greatly appreciated. The file contains 100's of thousands of lines, and manual processing is not an option :)

  • Java remove HTML from String without regular expressions

    - by behrk2
Hello, I am trying to remove all HTML elements from a String. Unfortunately, I cannot use regular expressions because I am developing on the Blackberry platform and regular expressions are not yet supported. Is there any other way that I can remove HTML from a string? I read somewhere that you can use a DOM Parser, but I couldn't find much on it. Text with HTML: <![CDATA[As a massive asteroid hurtles toward Earth, NASA head honcho Dan Truman (<a href="http://www.netflix.com/RoleDisplay/Billy_Bob_Thornton/20000303">Billy Bob Thornton</a>) hatches a plan to split the deadly rock in two before it annihilates the entire planet, calling on Harry Stamper (<a href="http://www.netflix.com/RoleDisplay/Bruce_Willis/99786">Bruce Willis</a>) -- the world's finest oil driller -- to head up the mission. • Invalid argument in sendfile() with two regular files

    - by Daniel Hershcovich
I'm trying to test the sendfile() system call under Linux 2.6.32 to zero-copy data between two regular files. As far as I understand, it should work: ever since 2.6.22, sendfile() has been implemented using splice(), and both the input file and the output file can be either regular files or sockets. The following is the content of sendfile_test.c: #include <sys/sendfile.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <stdio.h> int main(int argc, char **argv) { int result; int in_file; int out_file; in_file = open(argv[1], O_RDONLY); out_file = open(argv[2], O_WRONLY | O_CREAT | O_TRUNC, 0644); result = sendfile(out_file, in_file, NULL, 1); if (result == -1) perror("sendfile"); close(in_file); close(out_file); return 0; } And when I'm running the following commands: $ gcc sendfile_test.c $ ./a.out infile The output is sendfile: Bad file descriptor Which means that the system call resulted in errno = -EINVAL, I think. What am I doing wrong?

  • Combine regular expressions for splitting camelCase string into words

    - by stou
I managed to implement a function that converts camel case to words, by using the solution suggested by @ridgerunner in this question: Split camelCase word into words with php preg_match (Regular Expression) However, I want to also handle embedded abreviations like this: 'hasABREVIATIONEmbedded' translates to 'Has ABREVIATION Embedded' I came up with this solution: <?php function camelCaseToWords($camelCaseStr) { // Convert: "TestASAPTestMore" to "TestASAP TestMore" $abreviationsPattern = '/' . // Match position between UPPERCASE "words" '(?<=[A-Z])' . // Position is after group of uppercase, '(?=[A-Z][a-z])' . // and before group of lowercase letters, except the last upper case letter in the group. '/x'; $arr = preg_split($abreviationsPattern, $camelCaseStr); $str = implode(' ', $arr); // Convert "TestASAP TestMore" to "Test ASAP Test More" $camelCasePattern = '/' . // Match position between camelCase "words". '(?<=[a-z])' . // Position is after a lowercase, '(?=[A-Z])' . // and before an uppercase letter. '/x'; $arr = preg_split($camelCasePattern, $str); $str = implode(' ', $arr); $str = ucfirst(trim($str)); return $str; } $inputs = array( 'oneTwoThreeFour', 'StartsWithCap', 'hasConsecutiveCAPS', 'ALLCAPS', 'ALL_CAPS_AND_UNDERSCORES', 'hasABREVIATIONEmbedded', ); echo "INPUT"; foreach($inputs as $val) { echo "'" . $val . "' translates to '" . camelCaseToWords($val). "'\n"; } The output is: INPUT'oneTwoThreeFour' translates to 'One Two Three Four' 'StartsWithCap' translates to 'Starts With Cap' 'hasConsecutiveCAPS' translates to 'Has Consecutive CAPS' 'ALLCAPS' translates to 'ALLCAPS' 'ALL_CAPS_AND_UNDERSCORES' translates to 'ALL_CAPS_AND_UNDERSCORES' 'hasABREVIATIONEmbedded' translates to 'Has ABREVIATION Embedded' It works as intended. My question is: Can I combine the 2 regular expressions $abreviationsPattern and camelCasePattern so i can avoid running the preg_split() function twice?

  • Regular input in ASP.NET

    - by coffeeaddict
Here's an example of a regular standard HTML input for my radiobuttonlist: <label><input type="radio" name="rbRSelectionGroup" checked value="0" />None</label> <asp:Repeater ID="rptRsOptions" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <div> <label><input type="radio" name="rbRSelectionGroup" value='<%# ((RItem)Container.DataItem).Id %>' /><%# ((RItem)Container.DataItem).Name %></label> </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> I removed some stuff for this thread, one being I put an r for some name that I do not want to expose here so just an fyi. Now, I would assume that this would or should happen: Page loads the first time, the None radio button is checked / defaulted I go and select a different radiobutton in this radiobutton list I do an F5 refresh in my browser The None radio button is pre-selected again after it has come back from the refresh but #4 is not happening. It's retaining the radiobutton that I selected in #2 and I don't know why. I mean in regular HTML it's stateless. So what could be holding this value? I want this to act like a normal input button. I know the question of "why not use an ASP.NET control" will come up. Well there are 2 reasons: The stupid radiobuttonlist bug that everyone knows about I just want to brush up more on standard input tags We are not moving to MVC so this is as close as I'll get and it's ok, because the rest of the team is on par with having mixed ASP.NET controls with standard HTML controls in our pages Anyway my main question here is I'm surprised that it's retaining the change in selection after postback.

  • Error handling in C++, constructors vs. regular methods

    - by Dennis Ritchie
I have a cheesesales.txt CSV file with all of my recent cheese sales. I want to create a class CheeseSales that can do things like these: CheeseSales sales("cheesesales.txt"); //has no default constructor cout << sales.totalSales() << endl; sales.outputPieChart("piechart.pdf"); The above code assumes that no failures will happen. In reality, failures will take place. In this case, two kinds of failures could occur: Failure in the constructor: The file may not exist, may not have read-permissions, contain invalid/unparsable data, etc. Failure in the regular method: The file may already exist, there may not be write access, too little sales data available to create a pie chart, etc. My question is simply: How would you design this code to handle failures? One idea: Return a bool from the regular method indicating failure. Not sure how to deal with the constructor. How would seasoned C++ coders do these kinds of things?

  • directory traversal in Java using different regular and enhanced for loops

    - by user3245621
    I have this code to print out all directories and files. I tried to use recursive method call in for loop. With enhanced for loop, the code prints out all the directories and files correctly. But with regular for loop, the code does not work. I am puzzled by the difference between regular and enhanced for loops. public class FileCopy { private File[] childFiles = null; public static void main(String[] args) { FileCopy fileCopy = new FileCopy(); File srcFile = new File("c:\\temp"); fileCopy.copyTree(srcFile); } public void copyTree(File file){ if(file.isDirectory()){ System.out.println(file + " is a directory. "); childFiles = file.listFiles(); /*for(int j=0; j<childFiles.length; j++){ copyTree(childFiles[j]); } This part is not working*/ for(File a: childFiles){ copyTree(a); } return; } else{ System.out.println(file + " is a file. "); return; } } }

  • Advantages of Ubuntu LTS versions over regular Ubuntu?

    - by Adam Matan
Do the LTS versions of Ubuntu have any advantages for the non-paying customers (who don't get any support?) From the tech spec only, these versions seem outdated in many aspects - mainly drivers and installed software versions. For instance, My previous (bounty!) problem regarding the AGN 5100 drivers would have been solved under Ubuntu 9.04.

  • Interpreting regular expressions using find in Linux confusion

    - by PeanutsMonkey
I am attempting to use the find command and came across an article at http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/find.php which states The wildcard character is escaped with a slash so BASH sends a literal asterisk to the find utility as an argument instead of performing filename expansion and passing any number of files in as arguments. for the command find . -name up\*. Being new to the world of Linux I don't quite understand how the use of a backslash which is meant to escape the meta character * is interpreted and returns results as though as it is being passed to find. Does it mean if I use the -name option I have to use a backslash to pass a wildcard and if I don't use -name I don't have to use a backslash?

  • Tomcat dying silently on regular basis

    - by Hendrik
My tomcat (6.0.32, Java Sun 1.6.0_22-b04 on Ubuntu 10.04) keeps crashing multiple times daily without any specific output in catalina.out. This usually happens on high load (see top output). Update: The pid-file is properly removed when this happens. • Regular issue with keys on temp tables

    - by Christian
We run a large forum with lots of reads and writes, particularly to the posts and topics tables which are both innodb. Last week I started doing 12 hourly backups with innobackupex because mysqldump just takes forever (7+ million rows in posts table.) It seems that something doesn't like these backups because I have a recurring problem every other day. The symptoms; The front page of the site starts throwing errors The logs start showing errors like Error: 126 - Incorrect key file for table '/tmp/mysql/#sql_4e87_14.MYI'; try to repair it The /tmp/ dir fills up and we start getting Error: 1030 - Got error 28 from storage engine in the logs. The only way to fix is to optimize table on each of the posts and topics tables. I'm trying all I can to stop MySQL using disks for temp tables, but I'd have more problems than this if it used all my memory also. My my.cnf is here; https://gist.github.com/cbiggins/0aa26f6defb7a14541d7 The box has 32GB memory and I don't come near that usually. Currently at 15GB use. Thanks in advance. Update 1: Despite the conf looking like there is replication, there isn't. This is a stand alone instance.

I have around 630 MBs of an MP3 podcast that I want to burn to a CD so that a friend can listen to it while driving. I don't really care if some quality is lost. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Here is an extract of the log of one of the two VPN devices, which is a Cisco 3000 series VPN concentrator. 27981 03/08/2010 10:02:16.290 SEV=4 IKE/41 RPT=16120 xxxxxxxx IKE Initiator: New Phase 1, Intf 2, IKE Peer xxxxxxxx local Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, remote Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, SA (L2L: 1A) 27983 03/08/2010 10:02:56.930 SEV=4 IKE/41 RPT=16121 xxxxxxxx IKE Initiator: New Phase 1, Intf 2, IKE Peer xxxxxxxx local Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, remote Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, SA (L2L: 1A) 27986 03/08/2010 10:03:35.370 SEV=4 IKE/41 RPT=16122 xxxxxxxx IKE Initiator: New Phase 1, Intf 2, IKE Peer xxxxxxxx local Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, remote Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, SA (L2L: 1A) [… same continues for another 15 minutes …] 28093 03/08/2010 10:19:46.710 SEV=4 IKE/41 RPT=16140 xxxxxxxx IKE Initiator: New Phase 1, Intf 2, IKE Peer xxxxxxxx local Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, remote Proxy Address xxxxxxxx, SA (L2L: 1A) 28096 03/08/2010 10:20:17.720 SEV=5 IKE/172 RPT=1291 xxxxxxxx Group [xxxxxxxx] Automatic NAT Detection Status: Remote end is NOT behind a NAT device This end IS behind a NAT device 28100 03/08/2010 10:20:17.820 SEV=3 IKE/134 RPT=79 xxxxxxxx Group [xxxxxxxx] Mismatch: Configured LAN-to-LAN proposal differs from negotiated proposal. • Reformat a WindowsXP drive: Quick, regular, or leave the current file-system

    - by Julie
When reformatting, Windows XP ask me to choose from these formatting methods. (Implying that ALL of them are "formatting methods"... even #3) Reformat using NTFS (quick) Reformat using NTFS Leave the current file-system intact (no changes) What choice #3 really mean? Does it mean: A. Leave the current file-system (whatever file-system is already in use) and reformat to match that. (ie. If you current have NTFS, reformat to that again. If you currently have FAT32, reformat to that again. That is: Reformat without changing to a different file-system. Leave the current type.) or... B. Do absolutely nothing. Don't format. Don't delete any of my files. Abort the formatting process entirely.

  • How do I get a chart in LibreOffice Calc to have regular time intervals when the data is not regular?

    - by Dave M G
I have an area chart in LibreOffice Calc where I would like the X axis to be measured in one month intervals spaced evenly apart. The data going into the graph, however, is not regularly spaced at one month. There can be zero, one, or two entries in any given month. Right now, the chart is keeping the horizontal pacing of the data consistent and adjusting the X axis to accomodate, which is the reverse of what I want. In the example picture below, you can see that there is one data point in March, one in May, and two in June. Along the X axis, April is gone and June is taking up double the space. Instead of this, I'd like the months to stay the same spacing so there is April, May, and June, and for the data area of the chart to compress or extend horiozontally as necessary. I have tried editing the X axis and adjusting the time intervals, but this doesn't seem to do anything. Is what I'm after possible?
