  • Can I use wikipedia/commons images to create a logo for my program?

    I'm not perfectly clear on the implications of the GFDL for reusing pictures in this manner. Would adding a reference in the git's root folder's README suffice, or would that clutter every use of the logo, as you would have to attribute all original contributors on every single usage (like, e.g. presentations, flyers, websites, ...)? The software itself qualifies as FOSS, although it doesn't have a GNU* license.

  • Making diff output more readable

    I'm looking for a tool that will take diff / debdiff output (and more specifically, the output of this script) and display the result of the comparison in a highly readable, graphical way. Any pointers would be appreciated. Ideally, it would be the GTK+, FOSS equivalent of MDR. Meld, Diffuse and similar software are not fit for this purpose, since they're intended to work standalone, and don't take input from stdin.

    I have a hierarchy table in SQL Server 2005 which contains employees - managers - department - location - state. Sample table for hierarchy table: ID Name ParentID Type 1 PA NULL 0 (group) 2 Pittsburgh 1 1 (subgroup) 3 Accounts 2 1 4 Alex 3 2 (employee) 5 Robin 3 2 6 HR 2 1 7 Robert 6 2 Second one is fact table which contains employee salary details ID and Salary. Sample data for fact table: ID Salary 4 6000 5 5000 7 4000 Is there any good to way to display the hierarchy from hierarchy table with aggregated sum of salary based on employees. Expected result is like Name Salary PA 15000 (Pittsburgh + others(if any)) Pittusburgh 15000 (Accounts + HR) Accounts 11000 (Alex + Robin) Alex 6000 (direct values) Robin 5000 HR 4000 Robert 4000 In my production environment, hierarchy table may contain 23000+ rows and fact table may contain 300,000+ rows. So, I thought of providing any level of groupid to the query to retrieve just its children and its corresponding aggregated value. Any better solution?

  • Interface Builder error: IBXMLDecoder: The value for key is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer

    I'm working with Robert Payne's fork of PSMTabBarControl that works with IB 3.2 (thanks BTW Robert!): http://codaset.com/robertjpayne/psmtabbarcontrol/. The demo application works fine on 64-bit systems, but when I try to open the XIB file in Interface Builder on a 32-bit system I get: IBXMLDecoder: The value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer Building the app as 32 bit works, but then running it gives: PSMTabBarControlDemo[9073:80f] * -[NSKeyedUnarchiver decodeInt32ForKey:]: value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) too large to fit in 32-bit integer Not sure if this is a generic IB issue that can occur when moving between 64 and 32 bit systems, or if this is a more specific issue with this code. Has anyone else run into this?

    I'm having trouble with passing a constant class through a function. // test the constructors auto CName nameOne("Robert", "Bresson"); const CName nameTwo = nameOne; auto CName nameThree; // display the contents of each newly-constructed object... // should see "Robert Bresson" cout << "nameOne = "; nameOne.WriteFullName(); cout << endl; // should see "Robert Bresson" again cout << "nameTwo = "; nameTwo.WriteFullName(); cout << endl; As soon as the compiler hits nameTwo.WriteFullName() I get the error of abandoning qualifiers. I know that the class is a constant however I can't figure out how to work around it.     Good Day, I am creating a report with Reporting Services and am using several text boxes horizontally aligned next to each other. I would like to put periods so that report looks like: 1234 Robert Jones................... (234) 921-4922 1235 Jennifer Wilson................ (919) 582-2914 Is this possible to right-pad the text box with periods, or would I need to roll out some code to accomplish the above effect.   • Outgrew MongoDB … now what?

    We dump debug and transaction logs into mongodb. We really like mongodb because: Blazing insert perf document oriented Ability to let the engine drop inserts when needed for performance But there is this big problem with mongodb: The index must fit in physical RAM. In practice, this limits us to 80-150gb of raw data (we currently run on a system with 16gb RAM). Sooooo, for us to have 500gb or a tb of data, we would need 50gb or 80gb of RAM. Yes, I know this is possible. We can add servers and use mongo sharding. We can buy a special server box that can take 100 or 200 gb of RAM, but this is the tail wagging the dog! We could spend boucoup $$$ on hardware to run FOSS, when SQL Server Express can handle WAY more data on WAY less hardware than Mongo (SQL Server does not meet our architectural desires, or we would use it!) We are not going to spend huge $ on hardware here, because it is necessary only because of the Mongo architecture, not because of the inherent processing/storage needs. (And sharding? Please! Cost aside, who needs the ongoing complexity of three, five, or more servers to manage a relatively small load?) Bottom line: MongoDB is FOSS, but we gotta spend $$$$$$$ on hardware to run it? We sould rather buy commercial SW! I am sure we are not the first to hit this issue, so we ask the community: Where do we go next? (We already run Mongo v2) Thanks!!
