  • Why download popup window in browser not showing up when using JAX-RS v.s. standard servlet?

    When I try using standard servlet approach, in my browser the popup window shows up asking me whether to open .xls file or save it. I tried the exactly same code via JAX-RS and the browser popup won't show up somehow. Has anyone encounter this mystery?   • How do I stop Safari from caching my Servlet response?

    I'm having trouble testing a web app with Safari. My app returns wave audio data. The problem happens when I change the application and hit it again from Safari. Safari caches the original response so no matter how many times I hit refresh it seems like I've not updated anything. I can almost get around this using force refresh with Firefox but because I'm having trouble generating the wave headers using the javax.sound API Firefox only plays the first second of audio returned. A few weeks ago I tried setting the HTTP header in my servlet to prevent caching but I don't think I was setting it correctly. (What is the header for browser cache control?) This is becoming a real pain and I'm looking for any ideas, comments, or alternative approaches. I'm getting ready to try again but I figured I'd ask here in the interim to see if someone can provide help.

    How can I upload files to server using JSP/Servlet? When I add enctype="multipart/form-data" to the <form>, then request.getParameter() returns null. During research I stumbled upon Apache Common FileUpload.     I submit a (jsp) form to a Servlet A. Then I handle some logic which would make the submission either a success or a failure. I use jquery's ajaxForm() function to re-direct the user to a different jsp after the Servlet logic is executed. But before this redirection happens I need to show a javascript notification showing whether the submission was successful or not. Can someone tell me how can I do this?

    How can I tell Maven 2 to load the Servlet 3.0 API? I tried: <dependency> <groupId>javax.servlet</groupId> <artifactId>servlet-api</artifactId> <version>3.0</version> <scope>provided</scope> </dependency> I use http://repository.jboss.com/maven2/ but what repository would be correct? Addendum: It works with a dependency for the entire Java EE 6 API and the following settings: <repository> <id>java.net</id> <url>http://download.java.net/maven/2</url> </repository> <dependency> <groupId>javax</groupId> <artifactId>javaee-api</artifactId> <version>6.0</version> <scope>provided</scope> </dependency> I'd prefer to only add the Servlet API as dependency, but "Brabster" may be right that separate dependencies have been replaced by Java EE 6 Profiles. Both the servlet and gwt projects have war packaging but I want to have only one war file so I changed the packaging of the gwt project to jar and included it in my servlet project. Now I have a problem understanding how to wire everything together. Do I need to migrate gwt project's web.xml into the main project web.xml file ? Previously we did it using <input type="hidden" id="name" value="manoj" /> we take this value in action class by request.getParameter("name"). But now we couldn't pass value like "Hi\n i am\n Manoj". Since it has new line included in the string we couldn't take it like this to action. So how I can take value like this to action or is there any way other than hidden input? Thanks .

    I know there are several similar questions on SO, I have used some of them to get this far. I am trying to list a set of urls that match my input values. I have a servlet which takes some input e.g. "aus" in the example below and returns some output using out.print() e.g. the two urls I have shown below.     I'm trying to zip a large number of pdf files (stored as BLOBs in the DB) and then return the zip as an attachment to the user. What's the best way to do this without running into memory issues? Another note: I actually need to merge some PDFs prior to adding them to the ZipOutputStream. Therefore, a couple PDFs will need to be stored in memory at a time. I assume it would be best to then store them as temporary files on the server before zipping them all?
