  • How do you run the previous command in emacs shell?

    I am in terminal mode on Ubuntu, and I'm running emacs with 2 buffers open, one is a ruby file, and the other is a shell (opened by typing M-x shell ), and when I switch to the shell buffer, I want to run the same command that I ran before. I would normally just hit the up arrow in a terminal window, but in emacs, it simply puts the cursor up one line. Does anyone know of keystroke to run the previous shell command from within an emacs shell?

    I am having a problem similar to that asked (and solved) here: Can't enable GNOME Shell extensions. I have performed both of the "tweaks" explained in that solution (i.e., here and here); but that does not seem to help. My gnome-shell is version 3.2.1.   • Launch only the command if the previous one worked inside SSH, SHELL

    I've got a SHELL script which is using a pipe to separate my 2 commands: ssh -oBatchMode=yes user@hostname "mysql -u yop -pyop -c yop | echo test" The problem is even if my connection to mysql doesn't work, it send the echo test. I would like to forbid my script to send any command if the previous command doesn't work. I search with a if condition but it seems it not possible with it :( Does anyone have an idea ?   • "Abort" message on linux shell

    hello i compile & run a C program in linux terminal (using gcc). the program recieves as an argument a text file, parses it and outputs to screen and/or another text file. for some reason. in some cases, when i run the program, i get "Abort" message on the shell, and i can't figure out why. does anyone have an idea why this happens? thanks

The features I'm looking at are: a task bar a tray bar an application launcher (I mostly use Launchy for that, but I need a launcher for those applications I forget the name...) The lighter and the easier to configure, the better! I'm currently using Emerge, but I found it a little buggy. I tried many others, but I never found something convincing.

    I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine. Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 It displays the following error. "Your are not authorized to run this application" "The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value" After that I have deleted the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist But the same message is displayed. I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.

    I feel shy to ask this question, but if I don't I will never know, so here I am giving it a shot: I notice most shell commands use "-" for options, but I also noticed some commands do not have it. For example, to archive files in a given direct, the command is: tar czvf allmyfiles.tar.gz * However, to extract an archive, the command I learned, is: tar -zxvf allmyfiles.tar.gz Looking at both examples above, is there any significance whether to include the hyphen or not?

In php, http://php.net/manual/en/function.ftp-fget.php this function allows arbitay starting point: bool ftp_fget ( resource $ftp_stream , resource $handle , string $remote_file , int $mode [, int $resumepos = 0 ] ) however it does not allow me to set "how many bytes" i want to download.

    hi! i want to download a huge file from an ftp server in chunks of 50-100MB each. At each point, i want to be able to set the "starting" point and the length of the chunk i want. i wont have the "previous" chunks saved locally (ie i cant ask the program to "resume" the downlaod). what is the best way of going about that? i use wget mostly, but would something else be better?
