I am using the below MySql stored procedure, created by SQLWAYS [Tool to convert MsSql to MySql]. The actual MsSql SP is from http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/InsertGeneratorPack.aspx When i execute the SP in MySql Query Browser, It says "Unknown column 'tbl_users' in 'field list'" What would be the problem ? Because there was no error when i build-ed this Converted MySql SP. Help.. • How to add additional data column in EF using ASP.Net MVC 2

    - by Picflight
My Table: [LocationId] [Address] [ZipCode] When I show a list of Location's, I also want to show the distance from a given zip code. In Asp.Net Web Forms I had a stored procedure that would return the distance and I would call this SP on ItemDataBound on my GridView. Or, I also would have my SP that is returning the Location list add another column ([Distance]) which I could display in my GridView. How would you do this using Entity Framework and Asp.Net Mvc 2?

  • Passing a DataTable into a Stored Procedure. Is there a better way?

    - by punkouter
Can A datatable somehow be passed into SQL Server 2005 or 2008 ? I know the standard way seesm to be passing XML to a SP. And a datatable can easily be converted to XML somehow to do that. What about passing a .NET object into a SP ? Is that possible ? I remember hearing about SQL and CLR working together in 2008 somehow but I never understood.. Maybe that means you can refer to .NET objects within a Stored Procedure ?

  • Combine stored procedure and query in T-SQL

    - by abatishchev
What ways are there to combine executing of a stored procedure and using it's result or parameters in a regular SQL query? Or not supported yet but planned in future versions of SQL Server. I'm afraid that I use variables when it's possible do not. I mean next: -- passing result of SELECT to SP SELECT a, b FROM t EXEC my_sp a, b -- passing result of SP to INSERT INSERT INTO t EXEC my_sp a, b etc.

  • This Week in Geek History: Gmail Goes Public, Deep Blue Wins at Chess, and the Birth of Thomas Edison

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
Every week we bring you a snapshot of the week in Geek History. This week we’re taking a peek at the public release of Gmail, the first time a computer won against a chess champion, and the birth of prolific inventor Thomas Edison. Gmail Goes Public It’s hard to believe that Gmail has only been around for seven years and that for the first three years of its life it was invite only. In 2007 Gmail dropped the invite only requirement (although they would hold onto the “beta” tag for another two years) and opened its doors for anyone to grab a username @gmail. For what seemed like an entire epoch in internet history Gmail had the slickest web-based email around with constant innovations and features rolling out from Gmail Labs. Only in the last year or so have major overhauls at competitors like Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail brought other services up to speed. Can’t stand reading a Week in Geek History entry without a random fact? Here you go: gmail.com was originally owned by the Garfield franchise and ran a service that delivered Garfield comics to your email inbox. No, we’re not kidding. Deep Blue Proves Itself a Chess Master Deep Blue was a super computer constructed by IBM with the sole purpose of winning chess matches. In 2011 with the all seeing eye of Google and the amazing computational abilities of engines like Wolfram Alpha we simply take powerful computers immersed in our daily lives for granted. The 1996 match against reigning world chest champion Garry Kasparov where in Deep Blue held its own, but ultimately lost, in a  4-2 match shook a lot of people up. What did it mean if something that was considered such an elegant and quintessentially human endeavor such as chess was so easy for a machine? A series of upgrades helped Deep Blue outright win a match against Kasparov in 1997 (seen in the photo above). After the win Deep Blue was retired and disassembled. Parts of Deep Blue are housed in the National Museum of History and the Computer History Museum. Birth of Thomas Edison Thomas Alva Edison was one of the most prolific inventors in history and holds an astounding 1,093 US Patents. He is responsible for outright inventing or greatly refining major innovations in the history of world culture including the phonograph, the movie camera, the carbon microphone used in nearly every telephone well into the 1980s, batteries for electric cars (a notion we’d take over a century to take seriously), voting machines, and of course his enormous contribution to electric distribution systems. Despite the role of scientist and inventor being largely unglamorous, Thomas Edison and his tumultuous relationship with fellow inventor Nikola Tesla have been fodder for everything from books, to comics, to movies, and video games. Other Notable Moments from This Week in Geek History Although we only shine the spotlight on three interesting facts a week in our Geek History column, that doesn’t mean we don’t have space to highlight a few more in passing. This week in Geek History: 1971 – Apollo 14 returns to Earth after third Lunar mission. 1974 – Birth of Robot Chicken creator Seth Green. 1986 – Death of Dune creator Frank Herbert. Goodnight Dune. 1997 – Simpsons becomes longest running animated show on television. Have an interesting bit of geek trivia to share? • Get to Know a Candidate (16 of 25): Stewart Alexander&ndash;Socialist Party USA

    - by Brian Lanham
DISCLAIMER: This is not a post about “Romney” or “Obama”. This is not a post for whom I am voting. Information sourced for Wikipedia. Alexander is an American democratic socialist politician and a resident of California. Alexander was the Peace and Freedom Party candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 2006. He received 43,319 votes, 0.5% of the total. In August 2010, Alexander declared his candidacy for the President of the United States with the Socialist Party and Green Party. In January 2011, Alexander also declared his candidacy for the presidential nomination of the Peace and Freedom Party. Stewart Alexis Alexander was born to Stewart Alexander, a brick mason and minister, and Ann E. McClenney, a nurse and housewife.  While in the Air Force Reserve, Alexander worked as a full-time retail clerk at Safeway Stores and then began attending college at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Stewart began working overtime as a stocking clerk with Safeway to support himself through school. During this period he married to Freda Alexander, his first wife. They had one son. He was honorably discharged in October 1976 and married for the second time. He left Safeway in 1978 and for a brief period worked as a licensed general contractor. In 1980, he went to work for Lockheed Aircraft but quit the following year.  Returning to Los Angeles, he became involved in several civic organizations, including most notably the NAACP (he became the Labor and Industry Chairman for the Inglewood South Bay Branch of the NAACP). In 1986 he moved back to Los Angeles and hosted a weekly talk show on KTYM Radio until 1989. The show dealt with social issues affecting Los Angeles such as gangs, drugs, and redevelopment, interviewing government officials from all levels of government and community leaders throughout California. He also worked with Delores Daniels of the NAACP on the radio and in the street. The Socialist Party USA (SPUSA) is a multi-tendency democratic-socialist party in the United States. The party states that it is the rightful continuation and successor to the tradition of the Socialist Party of America, which had lasted from 1901 to 1972. The party is officially committed to left-wing democratic socialism. The Socialist Party USA, along with its predecessors, has received varying degrees of support, when its candidates have competed against those from the Republican and Democratic parties. Some attribute this to the party having to compete with the financial dominance of the two major parties, as well as the limitations of the United States' legislatively and judicially entrenched two-party system. The Party supports third-party candidates, particularly socialists, and opposes the candidates of the two major parties. Opposing both capitalism and "authoritarian Communism", the Party advocates bringing big business under public ownership and democratic workers' self-management. The party opposes unaccountable bureaucratic control of Soviet communism. Alexander has Ballot Access in: CO, FL, NY, OH (write-in access in: IN, TX) Learn more about Stewart Alexander and Socialist Party USA on Wikipedia.

  • Using Oracle Linux iSCSI targets with Oracle VM

    - by wim.coekaerts
A few days ago I had written a blog entry on how to use Oracle Solaris 10 (in my case), ZFS and the iSCSI target feature in Oracle Solaris to create a set of devices exported to my Oracle VM server. Oracle Linux can do this as well and I wanted to make sure I also tried out how to do this on Oracle Linux and here are the results. When you install Oracle Linux 5 update 5 (anything newer than update 3), it comes with an rpm called scsi-target-utils. To begin your quest, should you choose to accept it :) make sure this is installed. rpm -qa |grep scsi-target If it is not installed : up2date scsi-target-utils The target utils come with a tool tgtadm which is similar to iscsitadm on Oracle Solaris. There are 2 components again on the iSCSI server side. (1) create volumes - we will use lvm with lvcreate (2) expose a target using tgtadm. My server has a simple setup. All the disks are part of a single volume group called vgroot. To export a 50Gb volume I just create a new volume : lvcreate -L 50G -nmytest1 vgroot This will show up as a new volume in /dev/mapper as /dev/mapper/vgroot-mytest1. Create as many as you want for your environment. Since I already have my blog entry about the 5 volumes, I am not going to repeat the whole thing. You can just go look at the previous blog entry. Now that we have created the volume, we need to use tgtadm to set it up : make sure the service is running : /etc/init.d/tgtd start or service tgtd start (if you want to keep it running you can do chkconfig tgtd on to start it automatically at boottime) Next you need a targetname to set everything up. My recommendation would be to install iscsi-initiator-utils . This will create an iscsi id and put it in /etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi. For convenience you can do : source /etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi echo $InitiatorName and from here on use $InitiatorName instead of the long complex iqn. create your target : tgtadm --lld iscsi --op new --mode target --tid 1 -T $InitiatorName to show the status : tgtadm --lld iscsi --op show --mode target add the volume previously created : tgtadm --lld iscsi --op new --mode logicalunit --tid 1 --lun 1 -b /dev/mapper/vgroot-mytest1 re-run status to see it's there : tgtadm --lld iscsi --op show --mode target and just like on Oracle Solaris you now have to export (bind) it : tgtadm --lld iscsi --op bind --mode target --tid 1 -I iqn.1986-03.com.sun:01:2a7526f0ffff If you want to export the lun to every iscsi initiator then replace the iqn with ALL. Of course you have to add the iqn of each iscsi initiator or client you want to connect. In the case of my 2 node Oracle VM server setup, both Oracle VM server's initiator names would have to be added. use status again to see that it has this iqn under ACL tgtadm --lld iscsi --op show --mode target You can drop the --lld iscsi if you want, or alias it. It just makes the command line more obvious as to what you are doing. Oracle VM side : Refer back to the previous blog entry for the detailed setup of my Oracle VM server volumes but the exact same commands will be used there. discover : iscsiadm --mode discovery --type sendtargets --portal login : iscsiadm --mode node --targetname iscsi targetname --portal --login get devices : /etc/init.d/iscsi restart and voila you should be in business. have fun.

  • Guest blog: A Closer Look at Oracle Price Analytics by Will Hutchinson

    - by Takin Babaei
Overview:  Price Analytics helps companies understand how much of each sale goes into discounts, special terms, and allowances. This visibility lets sales management see the panoply of discounts and start seeing whether each discount drives desired behavior. In Price Analytics monitors parts of the quote-to-order process, tracking quotes, including the whole price waterfall and seeing which result in orders. The “price waterfall” shows all discounts between list price and “pocket price”. Pocket price is the final price the vendor puts in its pocket after all discounts are taken. The value proposition: Based on benchmarks from leading consultancies and companies I have talked to, where they have studied the effects of discounting and started enforcing what many of them call “discount discipline”, they find they can increase the pocket price by 0.8-3%. Yes, in today’s zero or negative inflation environment, one can, through better monitoring of discounts, collect what amounts to a price rise of a few percent. We are not talking about selling more product, merely about collecting a higher pocket price without decreasing quantities sold. Higher prices fall straight to the bottom line. The best reference I have ever found for understanding this phenomenon comes from an article from the September-October 1992 issue of Harvard Business Review called “Managing Price, Gaining Profit” by Michael Marn and Robert Rosiello of McKinsey & Co. They describe the outsized impact price management has on bottom line performance compared to selling more product or cutting variable or fixed costs. Price Analytics manages what Marn and Rosiello call “transaction pricing”, namely the prices of a given transaction, as opposed to what is on the price list or pricing according to the value received. They make the point that if the vendor does not manage the price waterfall, customers will, to the vendor’s detriment. It also discusses its findings that in companies it studied, there was no correlation between discount levels and any indication of customer value. I urge you to read this article. What Price Analytics does: Price analytics looks at quotes the company issues and tracks them until either the quote is accepted or rejected or it expires. There are prebuilt adapters for EBS and Siebel as well as a universal adapter. The target audience includes pricing analysts, product managers, sales managers, and VP’s of sales, marketing, finance, and sales operations. It tracks how effective discounts have been, the win rate on quotes, how well pricing policies have been followed, customer and product profitability, and customer performance against commitments. It has the concept of price waterfall, the deal lifecycle, and price segmentation built into the product. These help product and sales managers understand their pricing and its effectiveness on driving revenue and profit. They also help understand how terms are adhered to during negotiations. They also help people understand what segments exist and how well they are adhered to. To help your company increase its profits and revenues, I urge you to look at this product. If you have questions, please contact me. Will HutchinsonMaster Principal Sales Consultant – Analytics, Oracle Corp. Will Hutchinson has worked in the business intelligence and data warehousing for over 25 years. He started building data warehouses in 1986 at Metaphor, advancing to running Metaphor UK’s sales consulting area. He also worked in A.T. He also worked at Informatica and then Siebel, before coming to Oracle with the Siebel acquisition. He became Master Principal Sales Consultant in 2009. • Problem calling linux C code from FIQ handler

    I'm working on an armv6 core and have an FIQ hander that works great when I do all of my work in it. However I need to branch to some additional code that's too large for the FIQ memory area. The FIQ handler gets copied from fiq_start to fiq_end to 0xFFFF001C when registered static void test_fiq_handler(void) { asm volatile("\ .global fiq_start\n\ fiq_start:"); // clear gpio irq asm("ldr r10, GPIO_BASE_ISR"); asm("ldr r9, [r10]"); asm("orr r9, #0x04"); asm("str r9, [r10]"); // clear force register asm("ldr r10, AVIC_BASE_INTFRCH"); asm("ldr r9, [r10]"); asm("mov r9, #0"); asm("str r9, [r10]"); // prepare branch register asm(" ldr r11, fiq_handler"); // save all registers, build sp and branch to C asm(" adr r9, regpool"); asm(" stmia r9, {r0 - r8, r14}"); asm(" adr sp, fiq_sp"); asm(" ldr sp, [sp]"); asm(" add lr, pc,#4"); asm(" mov pc, r11"); #if 0 asm("ldr r10, IOMUX_ADDR12"); asm("ldr r9, [r10]"); asm("orr r9, #0x08 @ top/vertex LED"); asm("str r9,[r10] @turn on LED"); asm("bic r9, #0x08 @ top/vertex LED"); asm("str r9,[r10] @turn on LED"); #endif asm(" adr r9, regpool"); asm(" ldmia r9, {r0 - r8, r14}"); // return asm("subs pc, r14, #4"); asm("IOMUX_ADDR12: .word 0xFC2A4000"); asm("AVIC_BASE_INTCNTL: .word 0xFC400000"); asm("AVIC_BASE_INTENNUM: .word 0xFC400008"); asm("AVIC_BASE_INTDISNUM: .word 0xFC40000C"); asm("AVIC_BASE_FIVECSR: .word 0xFC400044"); asm("AVIC_BASE_INTFRCH: .word 0xFC400050"); asm("GPIO_BASE_ISR: .word 0xFC2CC018"); asm(".globl fiq_handler"); asm("fiq_sp: .long fiq_stack+120"); asm("fiq_handler: .long 0"); asm("regpool: .space 40"); asm(".pool"); asm(".align 5"); asm("fiq_stack: .space 124"); asm(".global fiq_end"); asm("fiq_end:"); } fiq_hander gets set to the following function: static void fiq_flip_pins(void) { asm("ldr r10, IOMUX_ADDR12_k"); asm("ldr r9, [r10]"); asm("orr r9, #0x08 @ top/vertex LED"); asm("str r9,[r10] @turn on LED"); asm("bic r9, #0x08 @ top/vertex LED"); asm("str r9,[r10] @turn on LED"); asm("IOMUX_ADDR12_k: .word 0xFC2A4000"); } EXPORT_SYMBOL(fiq_flip_pins); I know that since the FIQ handler operates outside of any normal kernel API's and that it is a rather high priority interrupt I must ensure that whatever I call is already swapped into memory. I do this by having the fiq_flip_pins function defined in the monolithic kernel and not as a module which gets vmalloc. If I don't branch to the fiq_flip_pins function, and instead do the work in the test_fiq_handler function everything works as expected. It's the branching that's causing me problems at the moment. Right after branching I get a kernel panic about a paging request. I don't understand why I'm getting the paging request. fiq_flip_pins is in the kernel at: c00307ec t fiq_flip_pins Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 736e6f63 pgd = c3dd0000 [736e6f63] *pgd=00000000 Internal error: Oops: 5 [#1] PREEMPT Modules linked in: hello_1 CPU: 0 Not tainted (2.6.31-207-g7286c01-svn4 #122) PC is at strnlen+0x10/0x28 LR is at string+0x38/0xcc pc : [<c016b004>] lr : [<c016c754>] psr: a00001d3 sp : c3817ea0 ip : 736e6f63 fp : 00000400 r10: c03cab5c r9 : c0339ae0 r8 : 736e6f63 r7 : c03caf5c r6 : c03cab6b r5 : ffffffff r4 : 00000000 r3 : 00000004 r2 : 00000000 r1 : ffffffff r0 : 736e6f63 Flags: NzCv IRQs off FIQs off Mode SVC_32 ISA ARM Segment user Control: 00c5387d Table: 83dd0008 DAC: 00000015 Process sh (pid: 1663, stack limit = 0xc3816268) Stack: (0xc3817ea0 to 0xc3818000) Since there are no API calls in my code I have to assume that something is going wrong in the C call and back. Any help solving this is appreciated.

  • Error while dynamically loading mapi32.dll

    - by The_Fox
Our application uses Simple MAPI to send e-mails. One of our clients has problems sending e-mail from a session on his terminal server. The mapi32.dll is loaded with a call to LoadLibrary which succeeds, but then our application tries to get the addresses of the functions MAPILogon, MAPILogOff, MAPISendMail, MAPIFreeBuffer and MAPIResolveName. The problem is that GetProcAddress fails for those functions with an ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED (code: 5) except for MAPIFreeBuffer. It looks like some sort of security thing. How can I fix this or should I use another method to send mail? • Populate textboxes with XmlNode.Attributes

    - by Doug
I have Data.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <data> <album> <slide title="Autum Leaves" description="Leaves from the fall of 1986" source="images/Autumn Leaves.jpg" thumbnail="images/Autumn Leaves_thumb.jpg" /> <slide title="Creek" description="Creek in Alaska" source="images/Creek.jpg" thumbnail="images/Creek_thumb.jpg" /> </album> </data> I'd like to be able to edit the attributes of each Slide node via GridView (that has a "Select" column added.) And so far I have: protected void GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { int selectedIndex = GridView1.SelectedIndex; LoadXmlData(selectedIndex); } private void LoadXmlData(int selectedIndex) { XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument(); xmldoc.Load(MapPath(@"..\photo_gallery\Data.xml")); XmlNodeList nodelist = xmldoc.DocumentElement.ChildNodes; XmlNode xmlnode = nodelist.Item(selectedIndex); titleTextBox.Text = xmlnode.Attributes["title"].InnerText; descriptionTextBox.Text = xmlnode.Attributes["description"].InnerText; sourceTextBox.Text = xmlnode.Attributes["source"].InnerText; thumbTextBox.Text = xmlnode.Attributes["thumbnail"].InnerText; } The code for LoadXmlData is just a guess on my part - I'm new to working with xml in this way. I'd like have the user to slected the row from the gridview, then populate a set of text boxes with each slide attributed for updating back to the Data.xml file. The error I'm getting is Object reference not set to an instance of an object" at the line: titleTextBox.Text = xmlnode.Attributes["@title"].InnerText; so I'm not reaching the attribute "title" of the slide node. Thanks for any ideas you may have.

  • Check on every page to ensure user has validated as being over 18

    - by liquilife
Hi Guys and Girls. I'm working on a website (tobacco related) that requires all visitors to validate they are over 18 before they can view the site. I have a form in place that validates the age but I'm at a dead end. How can I use this to store a cookie that they've passed the test and do a check on all pages to see if this check has already been passed or not? Any suggestions and help would be hugely appreciated! Below is my validation form: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; • PHP strtotime without leap-years

    - by Christian Sciberras
With regards to this thread, I've developed a partial solution: function strtosecs($time,$now=null){ static $LEAPDIFF=86400; $time=strtotime($time,$now); return $time-((date('Y',$time)-1968)/4*$LEAPDIFF); } The function is supposed to get the number of seconds given a string without checking leap-years. It does this calculating the number of leap-years 1970 [(year-1986)/4], multiplying it by the difference in seconds between a leap-year and a normal year (which in the end, it's just the number of seconds in a day). Finally, I simply remove all those excess leap-year seconds from the calculated time. Here's some examples of the inputs/outputs: // test code echo strtosecs('+20 years',0).'=>'.(strtosecs('+20 years',0)/31536000); echo strtosecs('+1 years',0).'=>'.(strtosecs('+1 years',0)/31536000); // test output 630676800 => 19.998630136986 31471200 => 0.99794520547945 You will probably ask why am I doing a division on the output? It's to test it out; 31536000 is the number of seconds in a year, so that 19.99... should be 20 and 0.99... should be a 1. Sure, I could round it all and get "correct" answer, but I'm worried about the inaccuracies.

  • Parsing XML with Ruby and Nokogiri

    - by Chip Castle
I have the following XML structure: <charsets> <charset> <name>ANSI_X3.4-1968</name> <aliases> <alias>iso-ir-6</alias> <alias>ANSI_X3.4-1986</alias> <alias>ISO_646.irv:1991</alias> <alias>ASCII</alias> <alias>ISO646-US</alias> <alias>US-ASCII</alias> <alias>us</alias> <alias>IBM367</alias> <alias>cp367</alias> <alias>csASCII</alias> </aliases> </charset> <charset> <name>ISO-10646-UTF-1</name> <aliases> <alias>csISO10646UTF1</alias> </aliases> </charset> </charsets> I can grab the text contents of the the name nodes using Ruby and Nokogiri using: require 'nokogiri' require 'open-uri' doc = Nokogiri::XML(File.open("StandardCharsets.xml")) @charsets = doc.css("charsets name").map {|node| node.children.text } But, what I want is the text contents of all name and alias nodes in the order as they are shown in the source document. Everything I try fails. Does anyone have a good example of how to do this?
