  • Wine installation on 12.04 LTS

    Installed wine from the Software Center and kept getting errors when trying to load windows programs. Uninstalled and did the apt-get installation of the latest version (1.5.7) Ran Wine configuration and get a "Failed to connect to the mount manager, the drive configuration cannot be edited" If i try to install a program it immediately goes to "Internal error" Any Ideas or possible solutions would be appreciated.   • Reset Windows Password with Ubuntu Live CD

    A friend brought me his PC with Windows Vista to reset the user password because he didn't use it for a long while and forgot his password. So I found a tutorial on how to reset the password by using a Ubuntu Live CD and the software chntpw. After I installed this software I mounted the SYSTEM partition by opening it with the file explorer. It is now available at /media/SYSTEM/ The tutorial says I have to open the file /windows/system32/config/sam with chntpw and reset the password with chntpw -u USERNAME sam After I did this it didn't show me any errors. So I unmounted the partition and rebooted the PC with the installed Windows Vista. It is still locked with the old password. Did I do any mistakes or is there an other way to reset the password?

  • When attempting to install ubuntu 12.04 from CD, I am stuck on black streen with "loading bootlogo..."

    I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 to my desktop and burned to a CD using Infra Recorder and instructions on ubuntu website. Restarted PC to boot from CD receive black screen with "Loading bootlogo..." then nothing happens and I have to restart with windows. The CD seems to be correct.   • Dreamweaver 8 Not Starting on Ubuntu 10.04

    I've been trying to start Dreamweaver 8 in Wine with winetricks installed in Ubuntu 10.04LTS and it would simply show that it was loading and then stop, so I decided to try in the terminal to see what I would get and I recieve. wine Dreamweaver.exe err:module:attach_process_dlls "odbc32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\Macromedia\\Dreamweaver 8\\Dreamweaver.exe" failed, status c0000005 doxramos@doxramos-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver 8$ odbc32.dll is installed within the libraries and is in my System32 Folder inside of Wine. Does anyone know what could cause this issue? Thanks in advance.

    Recently I've installed StarCraft 2 via playonlinux. The installation was absolutly no problem, everything was fine. But if I want to start the game now, it crashes.   • Where can I get fresh new Wine DLLs?

    I was acting careless today and I accidentally deleted one of the .dlls in my Ubuntu Wine installation, ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/ole32.dll to be exact, and need a new fresh copy of only this one .dll. I know that reinstalling will fix it, but I have installed quite a few programs and do not want to have to do such a drastic thing just to fix this one problem. So, I'm wondering if there is somewhere that I can download this original .dll as it came with my original Wine installation. I have found the SourceForge repository, but it only has .h and .c files and I do not know how to build them into a .dll. Can anyone give me a link to download, or instructions to build my missing .dlls?

  • Problem with Using chntpw in Ubuntu to reset Windows 7 Password

    I tried resetting the password of windows 7 Using 'chntpw' command in Ubuntu . It showed success . But when I try to login from Windows it does not seem to be changed. I first used live USB of ubuntu 11.10 and did ''Try Ubuntu''. Then I did sudo apt-get install chntpw and then cd /media/Vista/Windows/System32/config sudo chntpw -u username sam . I did according to this link . http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntucat/resetwindowspasswordold/ and got success like this. Hives that have changed: Name 0 Write hive files? (y/n) [n] : y 0 – OK . But when I try to login to windows with blank password , I could not login. I also tried changing the password and showed success but I could not login with that password . Thank you . Any help is very much appreciated.

  • Metro apps crash on startup, driver or permissions issue?

    After installing Win8 x64 RC, Metro apps worked correctly, but desktop OpenGL apps were slow and unresponsive. I installed the latest Win8 nVidia drivers, and the OpenGL apps started working correctly. At the same time, because of annoying permission messages, I changed the C:\ drive and all its files ownerships to my user, and gave it full permission. I restarted my pc after installing the drivers, and now Metro apps only show the splash screen, then crash. I tried installing other versions of the nVidia drivers, with the same result. My GPU is a GeForce GTX275. Is this a known problem with nVidia drivers? Or maybe changing the ownership of C:\ is the real problem? Thank you. More information (after looking in the event viewer) I've managed to find the problem and the error in the Event Viewer. I still cannot solve it.   • Dependency Walker reports IESHIMS.DLL and WER.DLL missing?

    On a Windows XP Professional SP3 with Internet Explorer 8 box, when I run Dependency Walker on an executable of mine it reports that: IESHIMS.DLL and WER.DLL can't be found. Do I need these DLL's? Where can I get them? I believe they are supposed to located in C:\Windows\System32\Wer.dll and C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Ieshims.dll

  • Hooking DirectX EndScene from an injected DLL

    I want to detour EndScene from an arbitrary DirectX 9 application to create a small overlay. As an example, you could take the frame counter overlay of FRAPS, which is shown in games when activated. I know the following methods to do this: Creating a new d3d9.dll, which is then copied to the games path. Since the current folder is searched first, before going to system32 etc., my modified DLL gets loaded, executing my additional code. Downside: You have to put it there before you start the game. Same as the first method, but replacing the DLL in system32 directly. Downside: You cannot add game specific code. You cannot exclude applications where you don't want your DLL to be loaded. Getting the EndScene offset directly from the DLL using tools like IDA Pro 4.9 Free. Since the DLL gets loaded as is, you can just add this offset to the DLL starting address, when it is mapped to the game, to get the actual offset, and then hook it. Downside: The offset is not the same on every system. Hooking Direct3DCreate9 to get the D3D9, then hooking D3D9-CreateDevice to get the device pointer, and then hooking Device-EndScene through the virtual table. Downside: The DLL cannot be injected, when the process is already running. You have to start the process with the CREATE_SUSPENDED flag to hook the initial Direct3DCreate9. Creating a new Device in a new window, as soon as the DLL gets injected. Then, getting the EndScene offset from this device and hooking it, resulting in a hook for the device which is used by the game. Downside: as of some information I have read, creating a second device may interfere with the existing device, and it may bug with windowed vs. fullscreen mode etc. Same as the third method. However, you'll do a pattern scan to get EndScene. Downside: doesn't look that reliable. How can I hook EndScene from an injected DLL, which may be loaded when the game is already running, without having to deal with different d3d9.dll's on other systems, and with a method which is reliable? How does FRAPS for example perform it's DirectX hooks? The DLL should not apply to all games, just to specific processes where I inject it via CreateRemoteThread.

  • Cannot access website using host headers on local windows 7 and iis 7

    I have problem of accessing my website created using visual studio on my local pc. the pc using windows 7 with static ip address has been configured and i have added a hostname "192.168.0.1 hosts myweb.mylocal.com" on c:\windows\system32\driver\etc. on the IIS i have configured the binding myweb.mylocal.com with impersonation set enabled and windows authentication is enabled. the user login just keep prompting eventhough i have entered the correct username and password.

    I've referenced the MSMQ v3 Object Library in a VS2010 C# project only to get: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {0188401C-247A-4FED-99C6-BF14119D7055} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)). I've registered the library the reference points to: regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\mqoa.dll What am I missing? Assuming this works, what will I have to do at deployment to ensure the app will run on other machines with MSMQ installed?

  • Visual Studio Plug-in that can tell the Application Pool name of w3wp.exe when debugging

    Is there any plug-in for Visual Studio that can display the associated Application Pool name for those w3wp processes when debugging them with "Attach to Process..." ? Usually I have to do following steps before debugging: c: \Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd list wps then I get the process id for the Application Pool I want to debug, and then attach it in the Attach to Process window. I feel it will be very pleasure if there's a plug in can do this automatically, but didn't find any such thing after Googled.

  • How to integrate Purify into Hudson CI?

    Hello everybody! I have a Hudson CI system set up and for the moment it is used for building a project and running some unit tests. My next step is to integrate the memory leak detector Purify into the build cycle. Now I want to start the unit tests also inside purify and for this I have created a new batch task which runs following command: purify.exe /SaveTextData MyExecutable.exe --test TestLibrary.dll --output xml As I read in the Purify documentation the /SaveTextData option is used in order to run purify not in GUI mode. If I run this command on my local workstation in the command line it works perfectly. But in case it is started by Hudson, nothing happens. Unfortunetly there are no logs of purify... Has someone ever tried to start purify either by Hudson or any other CI system? Thanks in advance. On the master I have configured a task which should start the unit tests within purify on the slave. I am running the slave via JNLP. EDIT 18.03.2010: Ok, so finally I am a bit closer the source of the problem. I have discovered, that running my unit tests in purify locally the log file EngineCmdLine.log contains three commands.   • urllib2 in Python 2.6.4: Any way to override windows hosts file?

    I am using the urllib2 module in Python 2.6.4, running in Windows XP, to access a URL. I am making a post request, that does not involve cookies or https or anything too complicated. The domain is redirected in my C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file. However, I would like the request from urllib2 to go to the "real" domain and ignore the entry in the hosts file. Is there any easy and practical way to do this?
