  • Do I need to update some of my Debian Squeeze software?

    I have installed Debian 6, and LAMP stack from squeeze repository (default). After upgrading Apache 2.2.16 from unstable repository to 2.2.22, thanks to this post - how to upgrade already installed apache2 on debian (lenny) I'm thinking to upgrade all other software packages that I've previously installd from squeeze repository. Should I upgrade them to the ones from unstable repository? Should I upgrade all of them or just selected ones?   • TFS and working with multiple solutions

    How do people generally deal with TFS when you've got to work with multiple solution files? If you've got one instance it's easy because you can always go to that window for the source control explorer, pending changes, check on builds or work items. But when you have 4-5 solutions, it becomes tricky to deal with. You might expand some folders or check some pending items on one VS instance but you have to remember which one you did it on. Having a separate instance dedicated just to TFS tasks is tempting, but there's only one window state for the whole program. If that instance is closed last, all instances will come up with all the TFS windows open. How do other people deal with this? Can you use separate profiles somehow and cordon off a "TFS" instance of Visual Studio?

  • TeamCity with TFS - workspace problems

    Hi, We have been using CC.NET as our CI server for a month or so now, which has worked ok with TFS. In the config we were able to specify the TFS server, username, password, project and workspace which is all good. Now we are moving over to TeamCity mainly because it just seams more solid and is much nicer to use. The problem is getting it work with TFS. For the purpose of this, both the workspace and machine name are "BuildMachine", username is "BuildUser" TFS project is "$/Project/Dev/Website" I seam to have set it up correctly, I think, as when testing the connection it is successful. When I run a build I get a TFS error: "RunBuildException when running build stage UpdateSourcesFromServer." It goes on to say: "No matched workspaces were found. Will recreate workspace and perofming clean checkout." It then tries to create a new workspace something like this: TeamCity-S-sqa9qe2aulx22gz4rzkogl5kr/BuildUser It tries to set up some mappings and then fails because: "The working folder C:\ is already in use by the workspace BuildMachine;BuildUser on computer BuildMachine". This seams ok as this is the workspace that CC.net was using, and c:\project\dev\website is the path to the project. The problem is, why didn't TeamCity pick this up and use this workspace? Why does it try to create its own new one? Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks

  • How do I merge a local branch into TFS

    hi, I did a stupid thing and branched my project on my local disk instead of doing it on the TFS. So now I have two projects on my disk: the old one which has TFS bindings and the new, which doesn't. I want to merge those changes back into the TFS project. How would I go about doing that? I can't do Compare because my local branch has no TFS bindings. There should be some way to compare the differences between the two projects locally and then meld the differences into the old project and check-in, but I can't find an easy way of doing that. Any other solutions?

    So i finally have everything up and running and everyone is mostly happy - TFS 2010 rocks! However i now want to add office sharepoint, i didn't want to have it installed first because i was worried that it would stuff with things and i wanted to look back on the TFS installation, once i knew how portals were created. So what is the best way to now add sharepoint to the installation without stuffing things up? i have a 2 server environment, with TFS on one and the database on another.

  • Setting Up TFS Server outside of a domain

    Hi Im trying to set up TFS 2010 on a machine that is connected to a network, but not on the domain. I am trying to connect this to a SQL Server that is also connected to the network and also not on the domain. When I run through the TFS configuration Wizard and try to connect to the SQL Server, it fails with a message "A connection can not be made...." which looks like it cant see the Server. However when i connect through SQL Management Studio it works when i use SQL Authentication (not Windows Auth). I beleive its failing because TFS needs to connect using Windows Authetication (please correct me if im wrong). I can not add the Windows Authentication for my TFS machine onto the SQL machine becuase they are on different domains (again, pleas correct me if I'm wrong). Does anyone have any suggestions?     I'm trying to set up our TFS 2008 instance to require that projects build before they can be checked in. I have created a check-in policy using the out of the box "Builds" policy, but I'm still able to check broken projects in after mangling the code and attempting to build the project. We're a small shop, and TFS was originally set up with our team's Active Directory group listed as TFS admins. Is this the problem? Do check-in policies apply to TFS admins? Any other suggestions?

  • does TFS easily allow you to share testresults with people who don't have TFS?

    I'd like to publish a set of test results to a place where team members who don't have TFS can see the results. Does TFS do anything like this easily? I see that that test results do get published, but without a TFS license I don't see any way for people to view them. I think I can do this easily by pulling the XML from the test results and then pushing that out to a central location, but I was wondering if there's anything like an "official" way to do this. TFS is hard to work with when you have some people who have access to it and others who don't... I really wish there was some sort of read-only access to the server (let people get files but not check them out for instance).

Now the question is, If I want to upgrade the second laptop but uninstall the windows 7 on the first one, would this be possible. I am only wanting to swap the OS onto the other laptop as the other one is faster. Is this possible? and if so how can it be done?

I ran the MSI installer, but it did not give me any upgrade option so I quit it. I am weary because it's a production machine with many PHP websites running on it. Also, my data directory is not the default one, it's kept on another partition. How can I upgrade it? Thanks for any help.

    I just did a fairly significant hardware upgrade while keeping my hard disks. The old system was a dell Optiplex 745 with an Intel Core 2 duo, LGA 775. The new system is custom built, Intel i5 750. I know you're supposed to do a clean install with a hardware upgrade like this, but I'd had success in the past doing the stealth hardware upgrade like this, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit gets through the loading screen and immediately blue screens and reboots. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, which I have on an old hard drive from an AMD box (!!) loads up fine. I ran through the windows memory checker just to be sure, and my memory is fine. So, is the BSOD the result of some sort of protection mechanism specific to Windows 7? Is there any hope of salvaging that install?

    I'm having trouble wading through Microsoft's marketing information. Does anyone know if Windows 7 x86 to Windows 7 x64 is a valid upgrade path? I know you can't actually use the built-in "upgrade" installation path; this is more of a licensing question. Although that may have answered my own question: is this idea even possible? Or do "upgrade" versions of Windows function only when executed from inside the OS, and not when doing fresh installs? Thanks!

After running these command I didn't get any alerts about updating. Also I don't understand the gksu part of the solution.     I was upgrading an Ubuntu server (using the do-release-upgrade) command over SSH (I know it's a bad idea, but it was the only choice; I don't have physical access to the server). It seemed to go fine and was going thru the 'setting up package name' part when it froze on the line Installing new version of config file /etc/mysql/debian-start ... The SSH connection appears to be still active, as pressing the up arrow echoes back ^[[A, and so on. When I log in on another SSH connection I can log in fine, but the ** system needs restart ** message shows up. Is it safe to ^C the release-upgrade command, or try to reboot the server? Should I ^C the upgrade and try it again? Anything else I could try?

  • Is it possible to re-create the Windows 8.1 install image after the upgrade

    I have downloaded and installed the Windows 8.1 upgrade from the Windows store. The hardware was a 64-bit Toshiba P50 laptop. I need to upgrade a second P50 and wish to do so without another 3.6Gb download (I tried the instructions here but never got the chance to create the installation media, nor was I asked for a product key). I saw mention on superuser of creating USB rescue media after installation and using that to clone the upgrade onto another machine. Is this likely to be a viable option?
