• URL Routing with WebForms, what to do with additional querystrings like page number, filter, etc?

  I am switching from Intelligencia's UrlRewriter to the new web forms routing in ASP.NET 4.0. I have it working great for basic pages, however, in my e-commerce site, when browsing category pages, I previously used querystrings that were built into my pager control to control paging. An old url (with UrlRewriting) would be: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17 I have a MapPageRoute defined in global.asax as: routes.MapPageRoute("category-browse", "Category/{name}_{id}", ~/CategoryPage.aspx"); This works great. Now, somebody clicks to go to page 2. Previously I would have just tacked on ?page=2 as the querystring. Now, How do I handle this using web forms routing? I know I can do something like: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17/page/2 But in addition to page, I can have filters, age ranges, gender, etc. Should I just keep defining routes that handle these variables, or should I continue using querystrings and can I define a route that allows me to use my querstrings like before?

• Symfony: Weird routing issue

  Hi, I've got following URL in symfony (specifics not important): /frontend_dev.php/something/25/apple ... and a routing rule: /something/:id/:word The URL works fine when clicked through to on the site, but not when I type in the URL. Instead, symfony says: Unable to find a matching route to generate url for params "NULL". The weird thing is that I can navigate to this page and it works, but when hitting Enter in the browser address bar, it no longer finds it. Any thoughts on what might be the cause of something like this generally? I should also add that the URL was working fine when typed in the address bar earlier, but doesn't anymore, and I'm not sure what's there that might be interfering with it. Thanks in advance.

• Load balancers, multiple data centers and url based routing

  There is one data center - dc1. There is a business need to setup another data center - dc2 in another geography and there might be more in the future say dc3. Within the data center dc1: There are two web servers say WS1 and WS2. These two webservers do not share anything currently. There isnt any necessity foreseen to have more webservers within each dc. dc1 also has a local load balancer which has been setup with session stickiness. So if a user say u1 lands on dc1 and if the load balancer decides to route his first request to WS1 then from there on all u1's requests will get routed to WS1. Local load balancer and webservers are invisible to the user. Local load balancer listens to the traffic on a virtual ip which is assigned to the virtual cluster of webservers ws1 and ws2. Virtual ip is the ip to which the host name is resolved to in the DNS. There are no client specific subdomains as of now instead there is a client specific url(context). ex: www.example.com/client1 and www.example.com/client2. Given above when dc2 is onboarded I want to route the traffic between dc1 and dc2 based on the client. The options that I have found so far are. Have client specific subdomains e.g. client1.example.com and client2.example.com and assign each of them with the virtual ip of the data center to which I want to route them. or Assign www.example.com and www1.example.com to first dc i.e. dc1 and assign www2.example.com to dc2. All requests will first get routed to dc1 where WS1 and WS2 will redirect the user to www1.example.com or www2.example.com based on whether the url ends with /client1 or /client2. I need help in the following If I setup a global load balancer between dc1 and dc2 do I have any alternative solutions. That is, can a global load balancer route the traffic based on the url ? Are there drawbacks to subdomain based solutions compared to www1 solution? With www1 solution I am worried that it creates a dependency on dc1 atleast for the first request and the user will see that he is getting redirected to a different url.

  So my problem is kinda weird, it only occurs when I test the application offline (on my PC with WampServer), the same code works 100% correctly online. Basically I have defined Parameters!RP_cll_typ_l1 as multivalued into my subreport as per ssrs multivalued parameter passing method. The value is going on sub report as '1,2,3,4' (not understandable by data set) It should be like as '1’,’2’,’3’,’4' or 1,2,3,4 How can I resolve this please help if any have solution? Since II7 which adds Default Document value to web config i couldn't use such technique as web.config was changed for all the directory.   I've got a method that gets called on an event, which presents me with two variables varA, varB (both strings). This method gets called with new information quite frequently, thus I have created a separate method that takes in the two parameters. I want to run this method in a thread, however have struck the issue that Thread.Start will not accept parameters. I've tried a few supposed methods, but have so far had no luck.. I think my best bet is to create a separate class, and handle it there.. However I have a List which I am inserting data into, and hit a dead end when the separate class tried to access that list, since it was in a different class. Can someone help me out here please?

• IIS URL Rewriting: How can I reliably keep relative paths when serving multiple files?

  My WebApp is part CMS, and when I serve up an HTML page to the user it typically contains relative paths in a.href and img.src attributes. I currently have them accessed by urls like: ~/get-data.aspx/instance/user/page.html -- where instance indicates the particular instance for the report and "user/page.html" is a path created by an external application that generates the content. This works pretty reliably with code in the application's BeginRequest method that translates the text after ".aspx" into a query string, then uses Context.RewritePath(). So far so good, but I've just tripped over something that took me by surprise: it appears that if any of the query string ("instance/user/page.html") happens to contain a plus sign ("+") the BeginRequest method is never called, and a 404 is immediately returned to the user. So my question is two-fold: Am I correct in my belief that a "+" would cause the 404, and if so are there other things that could cause similar problems? Is there a way around that problem (perhaps a different method than BeginRequest)? Is there a better way to preserve relative URL paths for generated content than what I'm using? I'd rather not require site admins to install a 3rd party rewrite tool if I can help it.

• Getting a ReturnValue from cmd.Parameters in c#?

  Hi, I have just finished converted a vb.net app to c# and one of the lines is to get @ReturnValue from the parameter. I ended up having to CAST a lot of things.. Is there not a easier way here is what i have int rc = ((System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32)(((System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter)(cmd.Parameters["@ReturnValue"])).SqlValue)).Value; In vb.net it was as simple as doing this Dim rc As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnValue").Value) Alot easier :-) But the problem with C# is the property Value isn't available unless I Cast to SqlParameter and i also need to cast to Sqltypes.SqlInt32 - i can't just do a standard Convert.ToInt32

  I'm writing a plugin that will allow parameters to 'set it up.' But I predict the user won't always want to set up every aspect of the function. function This_Function(a,b,c,d); For instance, maybe they'll only want to set up a and c, but not b and d (they'll just prefer to leave those as defaults). How do I write the function (or the parameters for that matter) so that the user can customize which functions they would prefer to pass? I have a feeling it involves parsing input, but I've seen many other functions with this capability. Thanks in advance for the help.

• Cannot 301 redirect with IIS URL Rewrite Module

  I am trying to troubleshoot my issue with the URL Rewrite Module on IIS 7. I migrated a Wordpress blog over to BlogEngine.net. There were only about 5 entries that I wanted to use 301 redirects to the new blog, so I wanted to simply create 5 exact match redirect rules using the rewrite module. For some reason the exact match rule never seems to take effect, I always get a 404 error when the original url is navigated to. I verified that my exact match pattern matched the existing backlinks and it does. I then tried a simple test and got the same behavior, no redirection. I created a page, test.html, on my site, I then created a second page, test2.html. So my exact match pattern is: "http://www.mydomain.com/test.html" And the rule is supposed to do a 301 redirect to "http://www.mydomain.com/test2.html " The redirect never happens. I created the steps for the rule based on the instructions in this page: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/461/creating-rewrite-rules-for-the-url-rewrite-module/ I don't see that I left out a step. After I apply the rule I've even gone as far as doing an IISReset to make sure it would be in effect but still no luck. Any thoughts on what I might have left out? (Note: my rewrite rules dont include the " " around them but I had to add since serverfault thinks I am trying to spam the system with multiple urls.)

• Nginx Removes the index.php from URL

  I have a codeigniter php application on nginx. It works as expected on Apache but after moving to nginx, I noticed that the index.php is automatically removed from the URL in all my links. • Rails AtomFeedBuilder Entry :Url option appears in url tag but not in link tag

  Hello, I'm using the AtomFeedHelper and everything is working fine except for one feed where I need to link each entry to a URL which is not the default polymorphic_url for the record. Per the documentation I've specified an :url option for the entry. This correctly renders a <url> tag in the atom node but the <link rel="alternate" still points to the default polymorphic_url. Looking at the source and the documentation I don't understand why this is happening. When I look at the source listed for entry here http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionView/Helpers/AtomFeedHelper/AtomFeedBuilder.html I'd assume that this line would work correctly: @xml.link(:rel => 'alternate', :type => 'text/html', :href => options[:url] || @view.polymorphic_url(record)) Confused. • htaccess: Redirect a Dynamic URL - Show only Static URL - Double Content

  Hi, I have a rewrite rule to get clean urls.. the only problem is, google shows some dynamic url and i dont want to serve dynamic urls. What I want: if a user types in the dynamic url, he gets redirected to the clean url.. example: http://www.example.com/?index=bananas (if someone types that in, he gets redirect to the url above) http://www.examplcom/bananas/ this is my htacces: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond $1 !apple\+banana RewriteRule ^(.*)\+apple\+banana/$ ?q=$1 [L] thank you!!
