    In writing functions my brain always spends a few milliseconds to check which order of parameters would be best for a given function. should I write: public Comment AddComment(long userID, string title, string text) Or probably: public Comment AddComment(string title, string text, long userID) Why not: public Comment AddComment(string title, long userID, string text) Do you follow any rules when ordering the parameters for your functions? Which parameter would you place first and which would follow?

All three work fine and point via RewriteMod to the same page which is fetched underwater. Now, my question is which of these is better in terms of: userfriendlyness (page loading times, full url visible in url bar or not) seo friendlyness (proper indexing due to the urls containing descriptive relevant tags) other concerns we forgot like possible penalties for so many words in link hrefs?? Parameter name: "param" Parameter value: "foo/bar?aaa=bbb&ccc=ddd" (happens to be a url with query parameters) String test = UriBuilder.fromPath("https://dummy.com"). queryParam("param", "foo/bar?aaa=bbb&ccc=ddd"). build().toURL().toString(); The encoded URL string returned is: "https://dummy.com?param=foo/bar?aaa%3Dbbb&ccc%3Dddd" Is this correct ? Should not the character "&" (and may be even "?") be encoded in the parameter value string ? Would not the URL produced be interpreted as follow: One first parameter, name="param", value = "ar?aaa%3Dbbb" followed by a second parameter, name="ccc%3Dddd", without value.

    I have just scraped a bunch of Google Buzz data, and I want to know which Buzz posts reference the same news articles. The problem is that many of the links in these posts have been modified by URL shorteners, so it could be the case that many distinct shortened URLs actually all point to the same news article. Given that I have millions of posts, what is the most efficient way (preferably in python) for me to detect whether a url is a shortened URL (from any of the many URL shortening services, or at least the largest) Find the "destination" of the shortened url, i.e., the long, original version of the shortened URL. Does anyone know if the URL shorteners impose strict request rate limits? If I keep this down to 100/second (all coming form the same IP address), do you think I'll run into trouble?

We currently have this url: www.domain.com/Details/Detail.aspx?param1=8&param2=12345 Here is what the rewritten URL will look like: www.domain.com/Param1/8/Param2/12345 I am using the ISAPI_Rewrite filter to allow for the "nice" url and make the page think it is still using the old url. That works fine. Now, I need to redirect users, if they use the old URL, to the new URL. I fgiure I would need to use a combination of the filter and an HTTPModule / Handler to perfomr the redirect. Any ideas?

  • Generate canonical / real URL based on base.href or location

    Is there a method/function to get the canonical / transformed URL, respecting any base.href setting of the page? I can get the base URL via (in jQuery) using $("base").attr("href") and I could use string methods to parse the URL meant to being made relative to this, but $("base").attr("href") has no host, path etc attributes (like window.location has) manually putting this together is rather tedious E.g., given a base.href of "http://example.com/foo/" and a relative URL "/bar.js", the result should be: "http://example.com/bar.js" If base.href is not present, the URL should be made relative to window.location. This should handle non-existing base.href (using location as base in this case). Is there a standard method available for this already? (I'm looking for this, since jQuery.getScript fails when using a relative URL like "/foo.js" and BASE tag is being used (FF3.6 makes an OPTIONS request, and nginx cannot handle this). When using the full URL (base.href.host + "/foo.js", it works).)

    This is our scenario: Our DNS is hosted by a company. They don't manage the DNS. We use Zoneedit (www.zoneedit.com) to manage the DNS such as nameservers, CNAMEs, etc... Then we have our web host where we just have our files hosted. We have a subdomain created on zoneedit. We would like to do a URL rewrite so that subdomain.ourdomain.com is displayed as www.ourdomain.com/subdomain. Do I use Zoneedit to do the URL rewrite or the web host or the DNS host? I checked the Zoneedit docs but I could not find a way to do a URL rewrite. Need some advice. Thanks

    When I browse to this URL: http://localhost:8080/foo/%5B-%5D server (nc -l 8080) receives it as-is: GET /foo/%5B-%5D HTTP/1.1 However when I proxy this application via nginx: location /foo { proxy_pass http://localhost:8080/foo; } The same request routed through nginx port is forwarded with path decoded: GET /foo/[-] HTTP/1.1 Decoded square brackets in the GET path are causing the errors in the target server (HTTP Status 400 - Illegal character in path...) as they arrive un-escaped. Is there a way to disable URL decoding or encode it back so that the target server gets the exact same path when routed through nginx? Some clever URL rewrite rule?

    I want to create a shortcut that opens links from the clipboard. I frequently switch browsers and it's very annoying to copy/paste hundreds of URLs from one to another. I have created a shortcut to launch a page on each browser - but how can I make the URL field include data from clipboard, so that when I copy a URL and click on the shortcut, it will direct to the URL that is currently on the clipboard. If this is not possible, then is there an AutoHotKey script or something similar that can accomplish this? I would prefer a Desktop shortcut, but whatever works.

    I need help as I am confused a lot with .htaccess Some months back, I removed WWW from the URL of my domain name using following .htaccess lines: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^example.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [L,R=301] Now, I also want to remove the trailing slash from the URL, as because I am using WordPress and a page/post will open, no matter if there's a trailing slash or NOT! I request you to please provide me the .htaccess code, so that I can REMOVE the trailing slash. Kindly remember, I don't want WWW also and I have already set .htaccess rule for the removal of WWW Note: 3 Years back when I started the blog, I set the Permalinks Structure without trailing slash.     I'm exploring some uses with Squid proxy 2.7 and I have seen a good number of examples for url rewrites that take urls such as: http: //somesitename.com and then the rewriter can change the url to: https: //somesitename.com And those examples work great. What I'm wondering though, is if its possible to do the reverse with a squid url rewriter. that is, to go from https: //somesitename.com to http: //somesitename.com ? Simply trying to edit the script file that handles the rewrites doesn't seem to do the trick. So I was wondering if there are some certain things I have to configure squid to do first, if its even possible to do what I am asking. I have my browser manually set up to have squid as a proxy for all requests and I can see https requests showing up in my squid access.log file (via the CONNECT method).

    Before I start: I'm programming for Iphone, using objective C. I have already implemented a call to a web service function using NSURLRequest and NSURLConnection. The function then returns a XML with the info I need. The code is as follows: NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://myWebService/function"]; NSMutableURLRequest theRequest = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url]; NSURLConnection theConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self]; i also implemented the methods didRecieveResponse didRecieveAuthenticationChallenge didRecievedData didFailWithError connectionDidFinishLoading. And it works perfectly. Now I need to send 2 parameters to the function: "location" and "module". I tried using the following modification: NSMutableURLRequest theRequest = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url]; [theRequest setValue:@"USA" forHTTPHeaderField:@"location"]; [theRequest setValue:@"DEVELOPMENT" forHTTPHeaderField:@"module"]; NSURLConnection theConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self]; But it doesn't seem to work. I'm doing something wrong? is there a way to know if I'm using the wrong names for the parameters (as maybe it is "Location" or "LOCATION" or it doesn't matter?)? or a way to know which parameters is the function waiting for... Extra info: I don't have access to the source of the web service so I can't modify it. But I can access the WSDL. The person who made the function say is all there... but I can't make any sense of it .< Any help would be appreciated. :)

  • Reporting Services 2005 - Parameter reliant on cascading parameters

    Good day I have the following: In a SSRS 2005 report I have three report parameters: FinancialPeriodType ("Month" or "Week" in a DropDownList), FinancialPeriod (cascading DropDownList populated depending on first selection) and another parameter, OpeningBalance, of type float. The first two parameters are cascading i.e. the first parameter is used by the query populating the second's available values. This works fine. What I'm attemping to do is default the value of OpeningBalance to a value from a dataset populated by a stored procedure which takes in the first two parameters. However as soon as I select a value for the first parameter, I get the following error: An error occurred during report processing. The value for the report parameter 'OpeningBalance' is not valid for its type.' I've tried setting the default of the second parameter to be a meaningful default (something like 200901) as well as defaulting the second parameter in the SQL store procedure with no affect. Using SQL Profiler I've noticed that selecting a value for the first parameter doesn't even execute the SQL used to obtain available values for the second parameter.

  • What's wrong with output parameters?

    Both in SQL and C#, I've never really liked output parameters. I never passed parameters ByRef in VB6, either. Something about counting on side effects to get something done just bothers me. I know they're a way around not being able to return multiple results from a function, but a rowset in SQL or a complex datatype in C# and VB work just as well, and seem more self-documenting to me. Is there something wrong with my thinking, or are there resources from authoritative sources that back me up? What's your personal take on this and why? What can I say to colleagues that want to design with output parameters that might convince them to use different structures? EDIT: interesting turn- the output parameter I was asking this question about was used in place of a return value. When the return value is "ERROR", the caller is supposed to handle it as an exception. I was doing that but not pleased with the idea. A coworker wasn't informed of the need to handle this condition and as a result, a great deal of money was lost as the procedure failed silently!

I'm able to get the full URL into a String via ExternalInterface var url:String = ExternalInterface.call("window.location.href.toString"); if (url) testField.text = url; Just unsure as how to manipulate the String to just get the 1234 and 5678 numbers.
