  • how do you spend your day? a day from a programmer's life [closed]

    First of all I'm 26 and I'm asking this question because I want to see how do you manage your time. Also I'm interested how do the programmers with a family(wife, several kids) manage their time. I'm asking this due the fact that I'm working aprox 7,5 hours at work (9 to 5), spent 1,5 hours on the way to/from workplace, and when I'm home I must cook/clean/etc and LEARN! And I have the impression that I don't have enough time to learn. Did you have a period similar in your life? To want to learn another language/improve your development/other skills? I saw here and on SO that there are a lot of peoples with +10k points, this in my mind means that they stay on blogs/forums more than 15 hours a day.     This past week the CodePlex team worked on several fixes to improve the stability of our TFS infrastructure, including applying TFS 2012 Update 1. We apologize for the recent downtime.   • Beginner flash game development: Start with framework or from scratch?

    I want to write some simple flash games (as a hobby). I have a lot of programming experience, but no experience with Flash/ActionScript. My question is: As a beginner, is it a good idea to start with a framework like Flixel, FlashPunk or PushButton or would it be better to write my first games from scratch? Also, if you vote for using a framework, which one would you recommend? What are the differences? And another question: What about Flex, would you recommend using it?

  • error when installing rmagic gem on Ubuntu 12.04 for Ruby on Rails

    0 down vote favorite I am trying to get my Ruby on Rails application working and installing RMagic gem. But I get an error that says "Can't install RMagick 2.13.1. Can't find the ImageMagick library or one of the dependent libraries." Altough I have ImageMagick installed with its dependences. Terminal log : http://pastebin.com/vcgkbwZR I even tried to installed RMagic from Synaptic, but I get the same error when I run "bundle" command. Through my search, some people had problem with lib dependencies, but I believed I have them all installed. Another solution I found is this ( error installing RMagick from gem ) a little bit old and not sure if it is going to work for 12.04. BUT, I don't know where those configurations should go.

  • Is it a good practice by commenting with owner name? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: How do you keep track of the authors of code? Here's several scenarios which may comment with owner name: bug fixing, i.e. // fixed bug 123 by xxx, solution is ... ... fixme/todo tags, i.e. // TODO: .... by xxx. hacks, i.e. // HACK! ... by xxx For case #2, please refer to Comment Tags The obvious advantage is that we can ease tracking by names. The downside is the risk of abuse. Actually my previous company allowed this way of commenting style, but current employer completely disallows names appearing in code. In my opinion, I would vote for discreetly commenting with author names. I'm open to hear from you if this commenting style is good or bad. Thanks.
