  • Sidescrolling UI on iPhone

    - by Michael
    Please lead me in the right direction. I need to provide user with small text centered on the iPhone screen. User can make quick scroll left or right in order to get the next or previous text. There can be hundreds of such text pieces. The process itself is similar to Photo application sidescrolling but much simple, no zoom. As far as I can understand I need to use UIScrollView class, then call hundreds of addSubviews? Is it the optimal way or I should always keep 3 subviews and replace them on the fly? What kind of tricks should be used to achieve the "scroll and center" effect? Thanks

  • Iphone Distribution error

    - by thinzar
    I am new in iPhone Distribution . I created Apple ID U765UXW88D.com.edwincs.*. and provisioning profile name is MobileHealthGuide. I made these in Distribution tab. My xcode version is 3.2.4 While uploading application with application loader , I got this error Application failed codesign verification. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate. My project name is MobileHealthGuide too. I have tried revoking the certificate and provisioning profile, but the error persists. How can I solve this problem?

  • Iphone Game Dev Over The Internet

    - by kernix
    Hello, I was wondering is there an easy way to communicate between iphones over the Internet(Not LAN/Bluetooth) or must there be a dedicated server in which all the iphones running an application needs to connect to? For instance, suppose I'm writing a game which works on the Internet. Once four clients joins a room, game starts. must I implement a server in which every Iphone client connects to (for instance if server was developed on Windows it could be a Service) or is there another way to address this when developing Internet-based application? Thank you

  • iPhone: Localizing app icon still not supported?

    - by js_
    My app's icon includes some text. So I want to change language of the text by language or country. There is a post which says localizing app icon is not supported: http://useyourloaf.com/blog/2010/12/16/localizing-iphone-app-icon-is-not-supported.html But it was posted in December 2010, one and half years ago from now. Is it still not possible to change icon of app by language? Localizing both icon of app on device and icon on App Store are not supported? Or localizing icon only on App Store is possible?

    Hello, Im working on an iPhone project using xcode and i actually have not programmed using objective-c before. So, my problem mainly is that my app crashes whenever i hit the button that it suppose to show a view of the world map. I think the problem is within the last 2 lines of the code but still i cant figure out why ?!! because whenever i comment out the line "[self presemtM.....]" the program doesn't crash. Would appreciate your help! -(IBAction) pushedGo:(id)sender { CLLocationCoordinate2D coord = {37.331689, -122.030731}; MapViewController *mapView = [[MapViewController alloc] initWithCoordinates:coord andTitle:@"Apple" andSubTitle:@"111"]; [self presentModalViewController:mapView animated:YES] [mapView release]; }

  • Codesign returns exit code of 11 for xcode iphone project -- can't find documentation on exit code 1

    - by Larry Freeman
    Hi Everyone, I'm new to iPhone development. I am trying to get Xcode to run an application on a phone. The app works fine in the simulator. Initially I hit the error: The executable was signed with invalid entitlements I followed the steps here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1074546/the-executable-was-signed-with-invalid-entitlements But now I am getting an exit code of 11. I checked the documentation on codesign but I can't find any mention of an exit code 11 (http://gemma.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/codesign.1.html) Below is the log I am getting. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am using iPhone OS 3.1.3. • Monotouch or Titanium for rapid application development on IPhone?

    - by Ronnie
    As a .Net developer I always dreamed for the possibility to develop with my existing skills (c#) applications for the Iphone. Both programs require a Mac and the Iphone Sdk installed. Appcelerator Titanium was the first app I tried and it is based on exposing some Iphone native api to javascript so that they can be called using that language. Monotouch starts at $399 for beeing able to deploy on the Iphone and not on the Iphone simulator while Titanium is free. Monotouch (Monodevelop) has an Ide that is currently missing in Titanium (but you can use any editor like Textmate, Aptana...) I think both program generate at the end a native precompiled app (also if I am not sure about the size of the final app on the Iphone as I think the .Net framework calls are prelilnked at compilation time in Monotouch). I am also not sure about the full coverage of all the Iphone api and features. Titanium has also the advantage to enable Android app development but as a c# developer I still find Monotouch experience more like the Visual Studio one. Witch one would you choose and what are your experiences on Monotouch and Titanium?

  • Want to display a 3D model on the iPhone: how to get started?

    - by JeremyReimer
    I want to display and rotate a single 3D model, preferably textured, on the iPhone. Doesn't have to zoom in and out, or have a background, or anything. I have the following: an iPhone a MacBook the iPhone SDK Blender My knowledge base: I can make 3D models in various 3D programs (I'm most comfortable with 3D Studio Max, which I once took a course on, but I've used others) General knowledge of procedural programming from years ago (QuickBasic - I'm old!) Beginner's knowledge of object-oriented programming from going through simple Java and C# tutorials (Head Start C# book and my wife's intro to OOP course that used Java) I have managed to display a 3D textured model and spin it using a tutorial in C# I got off the net (I didn't just copy and paste, I understand basically how it works) and the XNA game development library, using Visual Studio on Windows. What I do not know: Much about Objective C Anything about OpenGL or OpenGL ES, which the iPhone apparently uses Anything about XCode My main problem is that I don't know where to start! All the iPhone books I found seem to be about creating GUI applications, not OpenGL apps. I found an OpenGL book but I don't know how much, if any, applies to iPhone development. And I find the Objective C syntax somewhat confusing, with the weird nested method naming, things like "id" that don't make sense, and the scary thought that I have to do manual memory management. Where is the best place to start? I couldn't find any tutorials for this sort of thing, but maybe my Google-Fu is weak. Or maybe I should start with learning Objective C? I know of books like Aaron Hillgrass', but I've also read that they are outdated and much of the sample code doesn't work on the iPhone SDK, plus it seems geared towards the Model-View-Controller paradigm which doesn't seem that suited for 3D apps. Basically I'm confused about what my first steps should be.

  • How can I get Gmail Chat to run in background on my iPhone?

    - by zkidd
    For my iPhone, is there anyway to have gmail chat ping me, when a new chat occurs, and I am on another app? Unlike Android or Blackberry, I am amazed that I have yet not found anything that works well on the iphone for chatting with friends. Am I missing something here? Or is this just one of the greatest overlooked features that my iPhone does not have. And any solution offered can be either from the app store or cydia. Thanks.

  • Is there any way to access the mp3 or other file type tags from within an ipod touch/iphone?

    - by quixotic1
    I am just looking for an existing app that will let me read all the tags that are stored in a particular song on my ipod touch/iphone. I'm not much of a programmer, but would be willing to learn the iphone sdk (on windows) if I could build a program that would do this for me. I would love to be able to modify the tag while on the iphone, but just viewing them would be a great use to me. I'd like to read the Year tag, the comments tag, composer, etc. It's so annoying that I can't do this. Or can I already and I just don't know how. Yes, I know how to view the lyrics tag. Seems they could have included the other tags. Help please? Thanks, Dave

  • 1 iPhone, 2 (potentially 3) Macs......& Google Apps Sync?!

    - by Goober
    Currently I use a beast of a G5 Mac at work for all my software/web development, an iMac G5 at home for personal use & a MacBook Pro for when i'm on the go. At work we make heavy use of all the Google Apps features such as calendar & docs etc. We all have an address book (local mac application) that gets synced with a list of contacts stored on our mail server. I want to be able to integrate the Google Apps calendar with my iPhone calendar (or even just iCal - which i can then sync to the iPhone). Essentially I want all three Macs to have the Google calendar synced to their version of iCal including the iPhone. I've heard that Google Sync handles something along these lines but i'm unsure if it's going to fulfill my needs? I'm trying my best to avoid having to use MobileMe..... Help greatly appreciated, Kind regards

  • Thoughts on iPhone, Flash, IE

    - by guybarrette
    It’s interesting to see the debate caused by the iPhone debate over Flash.  In the new version of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement, Apple bans Flash and Monotouch: 3.3.1 — Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited). In Adobe’s last SEC filing, they list the iPhone/iPad as a threat to their business. http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/796343/000079634310000007/form_10q.htm#riskfactors We offer our desktop application-based products primarily on Windows and Macintosh platforms. We generally offer our server-based products on the Linux platform as well as the Windows and UNIX platforms. To the extent that there is a slowdown of customer purchases of personal computers on either the Windows or Macintosh platform or in general, to the extent that we have difficulty transitioning product or version releases to new Windows and Macintosh operating systems, or to the extent that significant demand arises for our products or competitive products on other platforms before we choose and are able to offer our products on these platforms our business could be harmed. Additionally, to the extent new releases of operating systems or other third-party products, platforms or devices, such as the Apple iPhone or iPad, make it more difficult for our products to perform, and our customers are persuaded to use alternative technologies, our business could be harmed. I had a conversation recently about IE9 and people were asking why is Microsoft spending money and resources to build IE9 now that we have Silverlight.  It makes just no sense to put so much efforts to support HTML 5 in IE because it’s overlapping with Silverlight, no?  Well, what if Chrome became the dominant browser and all of a sudden, Google would remove the object tag?  Would Microsoft be in the same position as Adobe is right now on the iPhone? What do you think? var addthis_pub="guybarrette";

  • Compress/Decompress NSString in objective-c (iphone) using GZIP or deflate

    - by Steven
    Hi, I have a web-service running on Windows Azure which returns JSON that I consume in my iPhone app. Unfortunately, Windows Azure doesn't seem to support the compression of dynamic responses yet (long story) so I decided to get around it by returning an uncompressed JSON package, which contains a compressed (using GZIP) string. e.g {"Error":null,"IsCompressed":true,"Success":true,"Value":"vWsAAB+LCAAAAAAAB..etc.."} ... where value is the compressed string of a complex object represented in JSON. This was really easy to implement on the server, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to decompress a gzipped NSString into an uncompressed NSString, all the examples I can find for zlib etc are dealing with files etc. Can anyone give me any clues on how to do this? (I'd also be happy for a solution that used deflate as I could change the server-side implementation to use deflate too). Thanks!! Steven Edit 1: Aaah, I see that ASIHTTPRequest is using the following function in it's source code: //uncompress gzipped data with zlib + (NSData *)uncompressZippedData:(NSData*)compressedData; ... and I'm aware that I can convert NSString to NSData, so I'll see if this leads me anywhere!

  • iPhone: How to write plist array of dictionary object

    - by Alessandro
    Hello, I'm a young Italian developer for the iPhone. I have a plist file (named "Frase") with this structure: Root Array - Item 0 Dictionary Frase String Preferito Bool - Item 1 Dictionary Frase String Preferito Bool - Item 2 Dictionary Frase String Preferito Bool - Item 3 Dictionary Frase String Preferito Bool exc. An array that contains many elements dictionary, all the same, consisting of "Frase" (string) and "Preferito" (BOOL). The variable "indirizzo", increase or decrease the click of the button Next or Back. The application interface: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/357/schermata20100418a20331.png When I click on AddPreferito button, the item "Preferito" must be YES. Subsequently, the array must be updated with the new dictionary.The code: (void)addpreferito:(id)sender { NSString *plistPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Frase" ofType:@"plist"]; MSMutableArray *frase = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:plistPath]; NSMutableDictionary *dictionary = [frase objectAtIndex:indirizzo]; [dictionary setValue: YES forKey:@"Preferito"]; [frase replaceObjectAtIndex:indirizzo withObject:dictionary]; [frase writeToFile:plistPath atomically:YES]; } Why not work? • Iphone page curl effect

    - by dragon
    I am using this code for Page curl effect ....Its work fine in simulator and device... But its not (setType:@"pageCurl") apple documented api , this caused it to be rejected by the iPhone Developer Program during the App Store review process: animation = [CATransition animation]; [animation setDelegate:self]; [animation setDuration:1.0f]; animation.startProgress = 0.5; animation.endProgress = 1; [animation setTimingFunction:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; [animation setType:@"pageCurl"]; [animation setSubtype:@"fromRight"]; [animation setRemovedOnCompletion:NO]; [animation setFillMode: @"extended"]; [animation setRemovedOnCompletion: NO]; [[imageView layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:@"pageFlipAnimation"]; So i changed and using like this [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveLinear]; [UIView setAnimationWillStartSelector:@selector(transitionWillStart:finished:context:)]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(transitionDidStop:finished:context:)]; // other animation properties [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlUp forView:imageView cache:YES]; // set view properties [UIView commitAnimations]; In this above code i want to stop the page curl effect at midway.. But i cant stop it in midway like map applications in ipod... Is this any fix for this? or Is there any apple documented methods used for page curl effect in ipod touch? I am searching lot. but didnt get any answer ? can anyone help me? Thanks in advance..plz

  • NSString variable out of scope in sub-class (iPhone/Obj-C)

    - by Rich
    I am following along with an example in a book with the code exactly as it is in the example code as well as from the book, and I'm getting an error at runtime. I'll try to describe the life cycle of this variable as good as I can. I have a controller class with a nested array that is populated with string literals (NSArray of NSArrays, the nested NSArrays initialized with arrayWithObjects: where the objects are all string literals - @"some string"). I access these strings with a helper method added via a category on NSArray (to pull strings out of a nested array). My controller gets a reference to this string and assigns it to a NSString property on a child controller using dot notation. The code looks like this (nestedObjectAtIndexPath is my helper method): NSString *rowKey = [rowKeys nestedObjectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; controller.keypath = rowKey; keypath is a synthesized nonatomic, retain property defined in a based class. When I hit a breakpoint in the controller at the above code, the NSString's value is as expected. When I hit the next breakpoint inside the child controller, the object id of the keypath property is the same as before, but instead of showing me the value of the NSString, XCode says that the variable is "out of scope" which is also the error I see in the console. This also happens in another sub-class of the same parent. I tried googling, and I saw slightly similar cases where people were suggesting this had to do with retain counts. I was under the impression that by using dot notation on a synthesized property, my class would be using an "auto generated accessor" that would be increasing my retain count for me so that I wouldn't have this problem. Could there be any implications because I'm accessing it in a sub-class and the prop is defined in the parent? I don't see anything in the book's errata about this, but the book is relatively new (Apress - More iPhone 3 Dev). I also have double checked that my code matches the example 100 times.

  • How to use HTTP Live Streaming protocol in iPhone SDk 3.0

    - by Pugal Devan
    Hi Guys, i have developed on IPhone application and submitted to App store. But my application got rejected based on below criteria. Thank you for submitting your yyyyyyyy application. We have reviewed your application and have determined that it cannot be posted to the App Store at this time because it is not using the HTTP Live Streaming protocol to broadcast streaming video. HTTP Live Streaming is required when streaming video feeds over the cellular network, in order to have an optimal user experience and utilize cellular best practices. This protocol automatically determines bandwidth available to users and adjusts the bandwidth appropriately, even as bandwidth streams change. This allows you the flexibility to have as many streams as you like, as long as 64 kbps is set as the baseline feed. In my apps i have to stream prerecorded m4v and mp3 files from my server. I used MPMoviePlayerController to stream and play those videos / audio. How to implement the HTTP Live Streaming Protocol in my apps? Also can i get some sample code? Thanks in advance!

  • iPhone: how do i redraw subviews while pinch zooming a uiscrollview

    - by Mike
    I am developing an iPhone app that places multiple custom UIViews as subviews in a UIScrollView. The subviews are placed on top of each other as transparent views as each view has its own drawing routines that traces parts of the base view. The base view is a UIImageView that is typically a large image that I want the user to be able to pan and zoom in and out of. The problem I am having is that when I zoom in and out of my UIScrollView, the subviews do not redraw themselves while the user is zooming. I can reposition and scale the subviews properly once the zoom is completed, but the user experience is less than desirable. I have not been able to find a way to either hide or redraw the subviews as the zoom is taking place to scale the subviews along with the ImageView. Any ideas? thanks! Here is the code that I have implemented: - (void)scrollViewDidEndZooming:(UIScrollView *)scrollView withView:(UIView *)view atScale:(float)scale { for (UIView *view in subViews) { [view updateView:scale]; } } - (UIView *)viewForZoomingInScrollView:(UIScrollView *) scrollView { return imageView; }

  • iPhone nextResponder switching keyboards

    - by Steve
    iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 4 (I am downloading B5 to see if this clears this up) To me this seems like a bug, but maybe I am missing something. The linked test program illustrates this problem. I have several UITextFields that I am linking together using the Tag property. In textFieldShouldReturn I get the next UITextField and set it as the active responder. The problem arises with the IB settings for the keyboard type. In the test program I have the first two text fields set to default. The next three text fields are set to numeric and symbols. As you move into the set (bottom three) that use the numeric/symbol keyboard the keyboard will toggle between numeric/symbol and the default. What I mean is the third field will display the numeric/symbol. The second Default. The third numeric/symbol. If you add more text fields setup as numeric/symbol this will continue on. Now if you tab into the forth field (it should bring up the default) and then manually select the numeric/symbol. The problem will disappear. I have tried various things to track down why the problem disappears. No luck so far. Sample Project

  • UIToolBar and iPhone Interface Orientation Problem

    - by Leo
    I am developing an application in iPhone. One view support orientation in portrait and landscape. I have two separate views for both orientation. This view has a UIToolbar at the top. Problem is when I change view back from landscape to portrait, UIToolbar at the top disappears. I want toolbar to come back in its original position when it is rotated back to portrait. This is what I am doing in my program. - (void)willAnimateRotationToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation) interfaceOrientation duration:(NSTimeInterval)duration { if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait) { self.view = self.portrait; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformIdentity; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(degreesToRadian(0)); self.view.bounds = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 300.0, 480.0); } else if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) { self.view = self.landscape; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformIdentity; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(degreesToRadian(-90)); self.view.bounds = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 460.0, 320.0); } else if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown) { self.view = self.portrait; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformIdentity; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(degreesToRadian(180)); self.view.bounds = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 300.0, 480.0); } else if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight) { self.view = self.landscape; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformIdentity; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(degreesToRadian(90)); self.view.bounds = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 460.0, 320.0); } } I don't know what am I missing here? Any help would be really appreciated.

  • security policy error iphone ipod touch issue

    - by Joey
    I'm getting an "Error from Debugger: Error launching remote program: security policy error" when I try to run my app on my ipod touch. The provisions look in order, and the app builds to my iphone 3gs just fine. The app used to build just fine to my ipod touch, so I'm flustered what could have changed and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what might be causing this issue. The build logs are below. • Nested UIScrollView-iPhone photos application

    - by abhishek trivedi
    Hi, I have been facing the same nested UIScrollView problem for long time.I tried some open source codes like Scrolling madness ,three-20 and others but all fails finaly.I am trying to make a photo Viewer application same as iPhone.For that I have created the structure like this:- 1)one View controller. 2)on view of view controller one UIScrollView (i.e inner/parent scroll view) as a child. 3)on inner/parent scroll view number of child scroll views(i.e. outer/child scroll views) ,each represents one page of photos application. 4)On each scroll view one image View on which i am displaying my image. So what I want is when user scrolls the outer scroll view it should scroll horizontally with all the child views so I will get the look and feel of paging in photos application.Also when user is on one specific image(i.e. child/outer scroll view) he should be able to zoom in/out,swipes and perform single/double tapping.I was able to make it work in sdk 2.1,but it dosnt work since sdk 3.0.Please tell me the idea behind your project.Means which scroll view you are subclassing ,in which view to detect touches.How this completely child - parent relation should be. If possible provide any sample code also.

  • Draw to offscreen renderbuffer in OpenGL ES (iPhone)

    - by David Ensminger
    I'm trying to create an offscreen render buffer in OpenGL ES on the iPhone. I've created the buffer like this: glGenFramebuffersOES(1, &offscreenFramebuffer); glBindFramebufferOES(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_OES, offscreenFramebuffer); glGenRenderbuffersOES(1, &offscreenRenderbuffer); glBindRenderbufferOES(GL_RENDERBUFFER_OES, offscreenRenderbuffer); glFramebufferRenderbufferOES(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_OES, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0_OES, GL_RENDERBUFFER_OES, offscreenRenderbuffer); But I'm confused on how to render the storage. Apple's documentation says to use the EAGLContext renderBufferStorage:fromDrawable: method, but this seems to only work for one render buffer (the main one being displayed). If I use the normal OpenGL function glRenderBufferStorageOES, then I can't seem to get it to display. Here's the code: // this is in the initialization section: glRenderbufferStorageOES(GL_RENDERBUFFER_OES, GL_RGB8_OES, backingWidth, backingHeight); // and this is when I'm trying to draw to it and display it: glBindFramebufferOES(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_OES, offscreenFramebuffer); GLfloat vc[] = { 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 10.0f, 10.0f, 10.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, -10.0f, -10.0f, -10.0f, }; glLoadIdentity(); glEnableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); glVertexPointer(3, GL_FLOAT, 0, vc); glDrawArrays(GL_LINES, 0, 4); glDisableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); glBindRenderbufferOES(GL_RENDERBUFFER_OES, offscreenRenderbuffer); [context presentRenderbuffer:GL_RENDERBUFFER_OES]; Doing it this way, nothing is displayed on the screen. However, if I switch out the references to "offscreen...Buffer" to the buffers that were created with the renderBufferStorage method, it works fine. Any suggestions?
