How to have other divs with a flash liquid layout that fits to the page?

Basically the majority of my content is flash based. I designed it using Flash Builder (Flex) and Its in a liquid layout, (everything is in percents) and if im JUST embedding the flash content it scales to the page fine, and i have the flash content set to have a padding of 50 px. I put a header div in fine with no problems, but I have 2 problems, the first being the footer div seems to cover up the buttom of the flash content in IE, but it looks just fine in chrome. How can I solve this? I'm using the stock embed code that Flex provides, I tried to edit the css style for the div which I think is #flashContent and give it a min width and min height but it didnt seem to work, actually anything I did to #flashContent didn't seem to do anything, maybe its not the div i need to be adding that attribute to... And my other problem is I dont even know where to start when it comes to placing a div thats 280width by 600height colum to the right side of the flash content. If i could specify a size for the flash content, and the float it left, and float the colum right, and clear it with the container div id be just fine....But remember the flash content is set to 100% Scale (well techically 100%x80% because it looked better that way). Does anyone know how I can start to deal with creating a more complex scaleable flash layouts that includes other divs? ALL WELL MAINTAINING IE SUPPORT? IE is ruining my life. Why does XFBML work everywhere but in Chrome?

I try to add simple Like button to my Facebook Canvas app (iframe). The button (and all other XFBML elements) works in Safari, Firefox, Opera, but in Google Chrome. How can I find the problem? TRADACOMS Support in B2B

TRADACOMS is an initial standard for EDI. Predominantly used in the retail sector of United Kingdom. This is similar to EDIFACT messaging system, involving ecs file for translation and validation of messages. The slight difference between EDIFACT and TRADACOMS is, 1. TRADACOMS is a simpler version than EDIFACT 2. There is no Functional Acknowledgment in TRADACOMS 3. Since it is just a business message to be sent to the trading partner, the various reference numbers at STX, BAT, MHD level need not be persisted in B2B as there is no Business logic gets derived out of this. Considering this, in AS11 B2B, this can be handled out of the box using Positional Flat file document plugin. Since STX, BAT segments which define the envelope details , and part of transaction, has to be sent from the back end application itself as there is no Document protocol parameters defined in B2B. These would include some of the identifiers like SenderCode, SenderName, RecipientCode, RecipientName, reference numbers. Additionally the batching in this case be achieved by sending all the messages of a batch in a single xml from backend application, containing total number of messages in Batch as part of EOB (Batch trailer )segment. In the case of inbound scenario, we can identify the document based on start position and end position of the incoming document. Why is HTML/Javascript minification beneficial

Why is HTML/Javascript minification beneficial when the HTTP protocol already supports gzip data compression? I realize that Javascript/HTML minification has the potential to significantly reduce the size of Javascript/HTML files by removing unnecessary whitespace, and perhaps renaming variables to a few letters each, but doesn't the LZW algorithm do especially well when there are many repeated characters (e.g. lots of whitespace?) I realize that some Javascript minification tools do more than just reduce size. Google's closure compiler, for example, also tries to improve code performance by inlining functions and doing other analyses. But the primary purpose of Javascript minification is usually to reduce file size. I also realize there are other reasons you might want to minify aside from performace, such as code obfuscation. But again, that reason is not usually emphasized as much as performance gain and file size reduction. For example, Closure Compiler is not advertised as an obfuscation tool, but as a code size reducer and download-speed enhancer. So, how much performance do you really gain from Javascript/HTML minification when you're already significantly reducing file size with gzip compression?

Windows expand over 2 monitors in quad-monitor setup

i just installed ubuntu 11.10 with my previous hardware setup: 4 monitors and 2 identical nvidia graphic cards. draging windows around all 4 monitors works nice, but when i maximize a window it expand always over 2 screens. I have noticed some error during the Linux boot. They seem to continue to occur after the boot adding lines to the log every few seconds. Once booted this normally does not appear to be causing any problems. However, around 1 in 10 boots results in a kernel panic and the computer has on two or three occasions suddenly rebooted after being powered on for a number of hours. I presume the cause of the reboot is a kernel panic as well. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and I have had Ubuntu installed on the computer for around a year. I have googled around and not found anything useful. I have provided the kernel log lines and the output of smartctl. Explaining the difference between OData & RDF by way of analogy

A couple of months back I wrote a blog post entitled Microsoft, OData and RDF where I gave a high level view of the OData protocol and how it compares to RDF. I talked about linked data, triples and such like which may have been somewhat useful however jargon-heavy. Earlier today Dr Michael Hausenblas (blog | twitter) offered an analogy which I think is probably more useful and with Michael's permission I'm re-posting it here:Imagine a Web (a Web of Documents, if you wish), which is not based on HTML and hyperlinks, but on MS Word documents. The documents are all available on the Internet, so you can download them and consume the content. But after you’re done with a certain document that talks about a book, how do you learn more about it? For example, reviews about the book or where you can purchase it? Maybe the original document mentions that there is some more related information on another server. So you’d need to go there and look for the related bit of information yourself. You see? That’s what the Web is great at – you just click on a hyperlink and it takes you to the document (or section) you’re interested in. All the legwork is taken care of for you through HTML, URIs and HTTP.Hm, right, but how is this related to OData? Well, OData feels a bit like the above mentioned scenario, just concerning data. How to communicate within a company what is being Continually Deployed

I work for a small development company, 20 people total in the entire company, 3 in actual development, and we've adopted CD for our commits to trunk, and it works great, from a code management and up-time side. However - we're getting flak from our support staff and marketing department that they don't feel that they're getting enough lead time on new features and notifications on bug fixes that could change behavior. Part of why we love the CD system is for us in development, it's fast, we fix the bug, add the quick feature, close the Bugz and move on with our day to the next item. All members of our company are now on HipChat at all times, and when a deployment occurs, a message is sent to a room that all company members are in, letting them know what was just deployed (it just shows the commit messages from tip back to the last recorded deployment). We in development are also attempting to make sure that when we're making a change that modifies the UI or a public facing behavior, we post a screenshot to the All Company room and explain what the behavior change is, seeking pushback or concerns. Often, the response is silence. Sometimes, it's a few minor questions, but nothing that need stop the deployment from happening. What I'm wondering is how do other users of the CD method deal with notifications of new features and changes to areas of the company that are not development - and eventually on to customers in the world? Web2.0, AJAX, HTML5, Facebook, Social web, openid, Oauth, web browsers... where is all this going ?

We have seen many new things appear in the last 7 or 5 five years on the web: Facebook, html5 appeared, new browsers grew strongly, Google failed with Wave... Since Facebook and other stuff like Gtalk and Gmail, I thought and hoped that forums, chat, mail, usenet, conversation rooms and p2p protocols could inter operate to allow the user to use all those services transparently. Of course I realized that things are far much complicated, for several reasons: the IETF cannot invent new things: they just propose standards. Microsoft as well as big players often are obstacles to relevant innovation regarding open formats. The biggest stories being document formats or internet explorer with its long reaction to support web standards. Smartphones, thanks to the appearances of OSes such as iOS and Android, are finally able to navigate on internet: former devices were deaf, they weren't directly connected to internet. The mail protocol were left unchanged even with the grow of spam and malwares. I don't know what to think, because I think there is still a lot to do, but I feel like it will never happen or that nobody seems interested in those basic text transmit features... So what do you think what are the next big steps in the evolution of the web ? Do you think is will still walk hand in hand with open source ?

Best way to convert existing project to be open source in GitHub

I've been working on a personal closed source project for some time and would like to make it open source. I've never created my own open source project before so it will be a good learning experience. I have been using GitHub as source control, so once I've written some decent docs on how to use and develop for it etc, it should be as simple as switching the repo to be public right? I guess my main question is around licencing. I was thinking of going with Apache 2.0 licence just because it seems to be widely used. It requires the licence header to be attached to all the source files, but if I do that now then all the other commits in the past will have it missing. Does that mean some one could pull an earlier version and it wouldn't have a licence? Is it best to start a new repo with the initial commit containing all the code with licence headers? Or maybe is there some advanced Git functionality that allows me to apply the licence header to all existing commits some how? Cheers.

'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); So if you wanna have a quick peak at the site the url is ApartmentJunkie.com, keep in mind the site is pretty bare bones but you'll get the idea -- basically it's very similar to craigslist in the sense that it's in the local space so people pick a city then get sent to a subdomain that is specific for that city, e.g. winnipeg.mb.apartmentjunkie.com. I put that up late last night then had a look at the analytics and found that I am seeing only the request uri portion of the URLs in analytics as I would with any other site only with this one it's a problem as winnipeg.mb.apartmentjunkie.com/map/ and brandon.mb.apartmentjunkie.com/map/ are two different pages and shouldn't be lumped together as /map/ I know the kneejerk response is likely going to be "hey just setup a different google analytics profile for each subdomain" but there will eventually be a lot of subdomains so google's cap of 50 is going to be too limited and even more important I want to see the data in aggregate for the most part. I am thinking of making a change to the javascript, to something like: _gaq.push(['_trackPageview',String(document.domain) + String(document.location)]); But am unsure if this is the best way and figured someone else on wm.se would have had a similar situation that they could talk a bit about.

ubuntu 12.04 not responding after software update

Yesterday, I did a software update and since then the system became unusable. To be more precise, I login and then I see only the background image without any bars, images etc.. This happened after updating the system. Please find here the relevant part /var/log/apt/history.log. I'm running 64 bit 12.04 distribution on nVidia. The 2-3 first restarts after the upgrade it was complaining about compiz/unity crashes and then the situation is as described above. I would be the most grateful of you could help me on this. First Look - Oracle Data Mining

In his blog, JT on EDM, James Taylor shares his analysis of Oracle Data Mining, including its new GUI and Exadata integration. While Oracle Data Mining has been available for a while, it is now easier to access and try via the Amazon Cloud. Using the Oracle 11gR2 Data Mining Amazon Machine Image (AMI), you can launch an Oracle Data Mining-enabled instance directly through Amazon Web Services (AWS) and connect to it using the Oracle Data Miner graphical user interface. The new Oracle Data Mining GUI, which will be available to beta customers soon, provides more graphics, the ability to define, save and share analytical "work flows" to solve business problems, and provides more automation and simplicity. Taylor comments that, "the UI looks to have a nice look and feel including graphical model development flows, easy access to the data, nice little micro graphs when browsing data records and more." On using Oracle Data Mining with Exadata, Taylor writes, "Oracle says that the use of the ODM routines in the Exadata kernel is faster than running a native ODM model in the database by a factor of 2 and that this increases as more joins are used. This could mean that ODM outperforms even third party in-database analytics." Taylor concludes his blog with a positive overall review, stating that "ODM is a nice product for Oracle database customers and well worth looking into. The new UI will only make it more so." Referral traffic not appearing properly in Google Analytics

We have a partnership arrangement with another site where we pay them for users sent to us. However, they claim our referral numbers for them are lower than theirs by 50%. They are tracking clicks in Google Analytics (using events) while we are using visits in Google Analytics. SO-overflow induced passivity - how to cope?

After not really working on my pet project for a while, I discovered Stackoverflow and upon perusing it more intensely I was quite amazed. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so when I found eye-openers here highlighting many of the mistakes I made, I first wanted to fix everything. However, it's a pet project for a reason: I'm self-taught and I'm studying psychology, so programming skills can never become priority one (though it often helps, even in this field). Issues that stuck out were numerous security issues (e.g. CSRF-prevention and bcrypt eluded me) not object-oriented (at least the PHP part, the JS-part mostly is) no PHP framework used, so many of my DIY takes on commonly-tackled components (auth, ...) are either bad or inefficient really poor MySQL usage (no prepared statements, mysql extension, heard about setting proper indices two days ago) using mootools even though JQuery seems to be fashionable, so there's more probably always going to be better integration with services I'd like to use (like google visualization) So, my SO-induced frenzy turned into passivity. I can't do it all (soon) in the rather small amount of spare time I can spend on working on my project. I can leave some of the issues be in good conscience (speed stuff: an unfinished & unpublished project will never become popular, right?). No clear conscience without good security though and if I don't use a framework for auth and other complex stuff I'll regret having to do it myself. One obvious answer would probably be going open-source, but I think the project would need to become more impressive before others would commit to it. I can't afford to employ someone either. I do think the project deserves being worked on, though. How should I tackle it anyway? What's the best practice for little-practice people?

Performance Overhead of Encrypted /home

I have a netbook with Windows on the second partition and Xubuntu (/ and /home) on the third partition. I selected to encrypt my home folder during installation. The performance of the netbook is adequate for the small machine that it is, but I'm looking to improve performance. I could not find much information about the overhead (CPU or drive) associated with home partition encryption. I ran the following, writing to my home partition as well as the the mounted Windows partition: dd if=/dev/zero of=~/dummy bs=512 count=10240 dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/Windows/dummy bs=512 count=10240 The first returned 2.4MB/s and the second returned 2.5MB/s. Can I therefore deduce that there is very little overhead to home folder encryption? I'm not sure if the different filesystems will make any difference (/ and /home are ext3). Update 1 I don't know why I didn't use /tmp instead of the mounted Windows folder. Only /home is encrypted, so /tmp is unencrypted ext3. The results of the dd as above are astounding: ~: 2.4 MB/s /tmp: 42.6 MB/s Comments please? The reason I am asking this is that disk access on the netbook is noticeably slow. Bridged VM guest does not get IPv6 prefix

I have a similar problem and setup as described in IPv6 does not work over bridge. My host get a IPv6 prefix but the guest VM only gets a local fe80-prefix. Analytics: Test events not showing up - how to troubleshoot?

I've got 3 profiles: Master, Raw Data, and Test, on the Test profile I have no filters configured. I want to test using some events. I created a local HTML file as shown below to generate some test data that I could play with in Analytics. But the events never showed up in Analytics. I wonder what I might be doing wrong?
