• Empty Recycle Bin error "Cannot Delete Dc12: Access denied."

  The Dc number can vary. The error is a sporadic, but when it happens it prevents the contents of the recycle bin from being deleted. It can also occur when the recycle bin appears to be empty, yet it has the crumpled paper indicator. Rebooting makes the problem go away, but it can also magically go away by just waiting a long time, like over night. But the problem keeps recurring with no rhyme or reason. What is causing this? I really don't want to reinstall Windows.

• Cross domain LDAP

  For a system we are developing we have 2 domains an internal and an external domain with bi directional trust between them. However the servers are only able to connect to their own DC's. We have an application server on the internal domain which needs to use an LDAP query to gather a list of users from a group on the external domain. How do i go about writing an LDAP query that asks one DC to go ask another DC for a list of users. I tried querying the internal DC with the same LDAP query I would use if it could hit the external DC directly but this does not work. When i use Softerra LDAP Administraor I can view the full hierarchy of the interal domain but despite the trust relationship between domains i am unable to see any of the external doamin. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

• Allowing users to use their domain name to their profile?

  I have a web site / app where each user as a profile i.e.: mydomain.com/user1 mydomain.com/user2 mydomain.com/user3 etc How do I allow it so that a user can use their own domain name to go to their profile as a rewrite not a redirect. So when they go to lets say: user1theirdomain.com they see there profile at mydomain.com/user1, but I don't want a redirect, I want it so their domain is seen in the address bar. I imagine the user will need to adjust there domain name DNS to point to my server, what are the correct procedures and what would I need to do from there? Also I wouldn't want to manually adjust things, I'd like it so when they point their domain to my server, my app will check the domain name, lookup the domain in my database and then serve the correct content. Any ideas?

• oracle virtualbox doesn't work for host Kubuntu since Lucid Lynx 10.04

  I have a thinkpad edge 14 core i3 2.4 ghz and 4g ram; I have tried kubuntu 10.04, 10.10, 11.10, 12.04 and 12.10 (all x64 architecture); Both oracle and ose virtualbox only works properly to install XP and windows 7 quest system on kubuntu 10.04; For every other kubuntu release since, the guest installation goes as far as formatting the virtual drive, freezes at this step, and doesn't even go as far as copying files to hard-drive to begin installation. But virtualbox has not stopped responding to commands; I can kill that one specific window with the problem installation ("machine" - "close" - "power off the machine") and start over again without having to force-kill virtualbox application. If anyone knows how I can go about addressing this problem, any help you can provide would be very much appreciated. Thank You.

• Color highlights have vanished in emacs

  I'm using emacs on a remote Linux server that I access via ssh. I'm editing C files that have a non-standard suffix, so I have had to manually enter c-mode with M-x c-mode every time I open one of those files. I found this to be annoying so I started monkeying with my .emacs to make that problem go away. This made all the color highlights in c-mode go away instead. Correction: All my color highlights are gone. I've removed the .emacs file, logged out and logged back in, but now, the color highlights are gone. I miss them! They were very helpful How do I get them back?

  I have a table with a FILESTREAM column, and it has two unique constraints specified for the same FILESTREAM column, ie: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] ADD CONSTRAINT [UQ_TableName_33C4988760FC61CA] UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ([GUID_Column]); GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] ADD CONSTRAINT [UQ_TableName_33C49887145C0A3F] UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ([GUID_Column]); GO I'd like to drop one of the unique constraints, as they are duplicates. However, when I try and drop one of the two duplicate constraints, I receive the following error. "A table with FILESTREAM column(s) must have a non-NULL unique ROWGUID column." Anyone know how to remove one of the two constraints?

• Windows 8.1 update effectively disabled mobile broadband connection

  I have Windows 8.1 on my HP laptop and a Huawei broadband modem which was working fine but since some of the updates of Windows 8.1 it is now not working. I have following issue: Under Device Manager Network Adaptor it shows the Hauwei mobile E303H but when I click on it and go to the Driver tab I can see that no device driver is installed. When I click to update the driver and select the generic mobile broadband adaptor it fails and shows "access denied". How do I go about replacing the driver for this?

  What is the best file system to use for a second hard drive when dual booting between WinXP and Win7? I am dual booting for legacy reasons, and I have a 2nd internal drive that I would like to use from both XP and 7. Should I go with the standard NTFS? • HD Radeon 6950 cannot run multiple monitors

  I'm having troubles getting multiple monitors to run on my graphics card. I plug one via the hdmi, and one into the DVI (I have tried both available DVI ports). with one DVI port it does not even register the monitor, with the second one I go into the Catalyst Control Center and it gives me the option to swap between the HDMI and the DVI port. I guess since this is the flex edition I could just go get 2 DSP to HDMI converters, plug 2 monitors in through the available DSP, and than the 3rd one into the HDMI, but do you have any idea why it will not let me run one HDMI and one DVI?

• What is the best way to handle the multitude of different logs created all around the place?

  I run a few applications which creates their own logs. Then I run cron scripts on the same server to do importing of data for my app. When these cron errors out, the default is it sends emails to the user that runs the cron job. There are just too many places that I need to check the logs and mails for stuff that might have potentially went wrong. My question is, what is the best way to do this or even better is like a log parser application which will go through all the system logs when something really goes wrong instead of me having to go through it daily?

• Hooking domain to home server with port

  Alright, I'm asking two things here. First of all, if i purchase a domain let's say myhomeserver.com, am I able to make the default port go through a different port instead of the default port 80? (that is without having to do myhomeserver.com:5000 for example). Also this should be without blocking other ports (so no stealth forwarding to myhomeserver.com:5000 i think) Secondly, How could I go about hooking a domain to a windows 2008 server? I've seen it on linux but no clue how to do it on windows if it's even possible. I know I'm asking a lot here, just some tips are appereciated. Also, yes I know, using a home server is horrible for security and preformance and whatnot, I understand this already, thanks ^^

• Configure browser and VPN traffic

  Hello everyone. I've been having a few issues with my company's VPN server. The VPN is running on a Mac Server (10.6.x) and I'm also using a Macbook (10.6.5). I've been building specific programs to gather information from IPs, and to work on this while I'm at home I need to go through our VPN to access the network. Unless I send all traffic over VPN, I'm not able to hit those specific IPs. However, I'm unable to access the internet through my web browser when I send all my traffic over VPN. I was wondering if there was a way (besides setting up a split tunnel) that I could set up a web browser to go through my current wireless connection, as opposed to going through the VPN like the rest of my applications. Wether the browser be Chrome, Firefox, or Safari doesn't matter to me. Anyone else run into this issue and find a clever way to solve it? Thank you!

• Boot camp install from a HDD image

  How would one go about imaging an old work computer (old IBM aptiva from 2001ish) with Windows XP and lots of stuff (VPN client with settings etc) to a new iMac, while preserving Mac OSX? I can't simply install XP on the iMac and then reinstall/copy across stuff; it NEEDS to be an image. Can you even image smaller HDD's and then place them on large ones, or do they have to be the same size? Recommendations on how I go about this? Edit: It MUST be boot camp. I don't want to virtualize it from within OsX

• Which PSU should one chose? The biggest is the best?

  I'm fully aware of PSU's "Active PFC" and that they won't consume the written W all the time. (Makes sense). But now I'm before a PSU replacement (Guys: NEVER buy a Chieftec. Seriously.) The question is: If one can get a bigger one (in my case 750W and 650W) ... should that person go for the bigger one ? (The difference in price is not much). No, I don't think I'll soon use all that much. (Please help (if you want of course) to make the question more generic if the question is really not OK in this form. I've been wondering about this for a time already. In my case it would be XFX Black Edition Silver 750W and 650W) (Basically about "which one" I would go with XFX/Antec/something which comes with industry qualified parts. Like Duracell but in a PSU. :) But the performance is a different thing.)

• Cannot navigate Microsoft store after app install / update

  Every time i go to the store and install a new app or update an existing one, I go back to the main screen of Store after a few screen refreshes. And then oddly, scrolling doesn't work and neither do the buttons, although the Tiles are fine. I then have to close the app and then re-open it and things are back to normal. I don't know if this is a weird bug or just the way it is. Could anyone please confirm and / or give a possible explanation?

  Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm wondering if it is possible to pick out what applications that should use a VPN. Say for example that I want to route Transmissions connection through a VPN, but I also want to be able to access my computer over SSH via my usual static IP-adress ( running the SSH- deamon over my normal internet connection) . Is there anyway to do this? As I've been searching the web I found that at least it is possible to set whether you want both your internet connection and your "local network" to go through the VPN or if you want just the "local network" to go through it. I'm using the network-manager-pptp with the pptp- protocol.

• How to configure DNS BIND to work locally on one computer?

  I want to do some changes to the BIND source code. In order to test those changes I want to be able to post queries to my local BIND server and for it to use only the local zone files. I know how to make the zone files and somewhat the named.conf file but what should i put in /etc/resolv.conf? In resolv.conf currently there is the line nameserver 192.168.0.1 witch i guess is my router IP address and the queries go through the router to my ISP. I want those queries to go to the local BIND server and to look for answers in the zone files i provided. Is there a way for this using resolf.conf file or should i do something else?

• Replacing old server with new but different hostname & same IP

  We have an old server 2000 and lots of users point to it by hostname and by its IP e.g \\server1, we have a new server 2008 R2 with new name serverlocation1 All folders and data have been sync'toy'd from the old server1 across to serverlocation1 each evening, the new server tree is exactly the same on the new server and all perms are correct. We need to make the new server the same IP as the old server1 as too many people access it directly via IP, and to ensure file and folder paths stay ok, anything \\server1\folder\file needs to go to \\newserverlocation1\folder\file etc I can change the old server1 name to server1-old & change IP and assign the old IP to the new server, but how do I force anything coming in for \\server1 to go to the new server and ensure anything referenced to the old server goes onto the new server ? I can CNAME but I need the new server to have the IP of the previous server so not sure if its straight forward etc..... point server1 to newserverlocation1 Then probably change DNS so that the OLD IP points to new hostname..... Any clarification appreciated.

• Can I set Windows default second-monitor behaviour to "Extend these displays"?

  I travel to multiple offices (and multiple desks in those offices), and whenever possible I plug an external monitor into my laptop. Whenever I plug in a monitor I haven't used before, Windows defaults to "Duplicate these displays" - which messes up the arrangement of icons on my desktop if the external monitor is a different shape from my laptop's monitor. I then select "Extend these displays", and my laptop screen returns to its original shape - but my icons don't go back to their original arrangement. Grrrrr. Fast-forward a few days or weeks; I've got my icons arranged so I can find stuff again - then I go to a new office and it starts all over again. I'm tired of this. Is it possible to make "Extend these displays" the default behavior? I'm using Windows 8 x64 Home Premium, but I had the same complaint under Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. (Prior to that, I hadn't discovered the joy of dual displays. Ah, the time I wasted...)

• Mouse Error Code 24. Windows 7

  I've had the same mouse for a while, and it's been working fine until one day, it started giving me a message about a device not working properly. I tried updating the drivers, and re-installing, I even deleted old drivers in case my computer should be a little confused. It never made a difference, and my mouse seemed to be working just fine despite getting the permanent error in my device manager, I looked it up several times online, but I never found anything I could actually use, when I go to official websites, I always get the same response "plug in so so into a different place - drivers - install silverlight before you can watch this tutorial, try it on a different machine". so I gave up on that. But now is where I have a real problem, lately, my little strange error evolved into a fullblown Error 24, and my mouse is starting to turn on and off randomely, especially when it is being used, but I do hear it go "badum..dadum" when I'm off doing something else. when I looked up error code 24, I really didn't find much other than it meaning: Code 24 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Cause The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal. After you remove the device, this error disappears. But, I have tried uninstalling the device entirely several times, and it'll go right back to its previous state with error 24, and turning on and off randomely. what do I do? I cannot afford taking it to a repair place, I can't really afford a new mouse either, I refuse to buy cheap ones as I am a gamer, in need of more than 3 buttons, and a good grip is important. Could there possibly be some confusion in the registry? I do remember having gotten some early problems after I converted my vista to windows7. But I hardly dare going in there unless I'm 100% certain of what I'm going for, and I can honestly say I am at a loss here. Edit: it is a USB mouse we're talking about here. • nginx rewrite for wikkawiki

  Just setup WikkaWiki on my server, I have been trying to have the links go from wiki.mysite.info/wikka.php?wakka=Start into wiki.mysite.info/DotMG. I tried following their guide at http://docs.wikkawiki.org/ModRewrite, however it seems incomplete and outdated. Furthermore, as of version 1.3.2 base_url isn't even manually configurable from the wikka.config.php file. I am using version 1.3.2 of WikkaWiki. Furthermore, the links on the wiki have the wikka.php?wakka= so whenever I navigate around the wiki, it goes back to being wiki.mysite.info/wikka.php?wakka=APage. I think something is wrong with my rewrite but I can't say for sure.   Using apache. I have a demo of a webapp that usually uses https. However, for the demo, I want all traffic to be on http even if a user hits https. I have added the following entry and it works if you go to http:// AAAA.com:443, but doesn't work if you go to https:// AAAA.com. It gives you this error: SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) Here is my current setup: <VirtualHost 111.111.111.1:443> ServerName test.AAAA.com DocumentRoot /var/www/AAAA.com </VirtualHost> How do you redirect the https-http without encountering the SSL error. • Both screens always stay on after adding second monitor

  I had a single 1920x1080 monitor on a Windows 7 desktop PC and, per "power management" (not screen saver), the screen would go blank after 10 minutes. I added another monitor (2560x1600 if that matters) and since then, neither screen has ever blanked. I've tried turning on the "blank" screen saver, but that didn't help either -- I can go away for hours and when I come back, both screens are on. I've seen others with similar issues apparently caused by e.g. wireless mice that seem to move infinitesimally, but I've got the same wired mouse I had before. I can't understand why neither the screen saver nor power management is doing what it should to blank the screens, when "power management" used to do it when there was only one monitor. Maybe it doesn't matter so much with current LCD display technology (no "burn in") but doesn't a monitor use more power when "power management" hasn't turned off the display? Thanks for any suggestions.
