  • What output and recording ports does the Java Sound API find on your computer?

    - by Dave Carpeneto
Hi all - I'm working with the Java Sound API, and it turns out if I want to adjust recording volumes I need to model the hardware that the OS exposes to Java. Turns out there's a lot of variety in what's presented. Because of this I'm humbly asking that anyone able to help me run the following on their computer and post back the results so that I can get an idea of what's out there. A thanks in advance to anyone that can assist :-) import javax.sound.sampled.*; public class SoundAudit { public static void main(String[] args) { try { System.out.println("OS: "+System.getProperty("os.name")+" "+ System.getProperty("os.version")+"/"+ System.getProperty("os.arch")+"\nJava: "+ System.getProperty("java.version")+" ("+ System.getProperty("java.vendor")+")\n"); for (Mixer.Info thisMixerInfo : AudioSystem.getMixerInfo()) { System.out.println("Mixer: "+thisMixerInfo.getDescription()+ " ["+thisMixerInfo.getName()+"]"); Mixer thisMixer = AudioSystem.getMixer(thisMixerInfo); for (Line.Info thisLineInfo:thisMixer.getSourceLineInfo()) { if (thisLineInfo.getLineClass().getName().equals( "javax.sound.sampled.Port")) { Line thisLine = thisMixer.getLine(thisLineInfo); thisLine.open(); System.out.println(" Source Port: " +thisLineInfo.toString()); for (Control thisControl : thisLine.getControls()) { System.out.println(AnalyzeControl(thisControl));} thisLine.close();}} for (Line.Info thisLineInfo:thisMixer.getTargetLineInfo()) { if (thisLineInfo.getLineClass().getName().equals( "javax.sound.sampled.Port")) { Line thisLine = thisMixer.getLine(thisLineInfo); thisLine.open(); System.out.println(" Target Port: " +thisLineInfo.toString()); for (Control thisControl : thisLine.getControls()) { System.out.println(AnalyzeControl(thisControl));} thisLine.close();}}} } catch (Exception e) {e.printStackTrace();}} public static String AnalyzeControl(Control thisControl) { String type = thisControl.getType().toString(); if (thisControl instanceof BooleanControl) { return " Control: "+type+" (boolean)"; } if (thisControl instanceof CompoundControl) { System.out.println(" Control: "+type+ " (compound - values below)"); String toReturn = ""; for (Control children: ((CompoundControl)thisControl).getMemberControls()) { toReturn+=" "+AnalyzeControl(children)+"\n";} return toReturn.substring(0, toReturn.length()-1);} if (thisControl instanceof EnumControl) { return " Control:"+type+" (enum: "+thisControl.toString()+")";} if (thisControl instanceof FloatControl) { return " Control: "+type+" (float: from "+ ((FloatControl) thisControl).getMinimum()+" to "+ ((FloatControl) thisControl).getMaximum()+")";} return " Control: unknown type";} } All the application does is print out a line about the OS, a line about the JVM, and a few lines about the hardware found that may pertain to recording hardware. For example on my PC at work I get the following: OS: Windows XP 5.1/x86 Java: 1.6.0_07 (Sun Microsystems Inc.) • Windows 2008 RenderFarm Service: CreateProcessAsUser "Session 0 Isolation" and OpenGL

    - by holtavolt
Hello, I have a legacy Windows server service and (spawned) application that works fine in XP-64 and W2K3, but fails on W2K8. I believe it is because of the new "Session 0 isolation " feature. (Note: As a StackOverflow newbie I'm being limited to one link in this post, so you'll need to scroll to bottom to lookup the links for '' items)* Consequently, I'm looking for code samples/security settings mojo that let you create a new process from a windows service for Windows 2008 Server such that I can restore (and possibly surpass) the previous behavior. I need a solution that: Creates the new process in a non-zero session to get around session-0 isolation restrictions (no access to graphics hardware from session 0) - the official MS line on this is: Because Session 0 is no longer a user session, services that are running in Session 0 do not have access to the video driver. This means that any attempt that a service makes to render graphics fails. Querying the display resolution and color depth in Session 0 reports the correct results for the system up to a maximum of 1920x1200 at 32 bits per pixel. The new process gets a windows station/desktop (e.g. winsta0/default) that can be used to create windows DCs. I've found a solution (that launches OK in an interactive session) for this here: *(Starting an Interactive Client Process in C++ - 2) The windows DC, when used as the basis for an *(OpenGL DescribePixelFormat enumeration - 3), is able to find and use the hardware-accelerated format (on a system appropriately equipped with OpenGL hardware.) Note that our current solution works OK on XP-64 and W2K3, except if a terminal services session is running (VNC works fine.) A solution that also allowed the process to work (i.e. run with OpenGL hardware acceleration even when a terminal services session is open) would be fanastic, although not required. I'm stuck at item #1 currently, and although there are some similar postings that discuss this (like *(this -4), and *(this - 5) - they are not suitable solutions, as there is no guarantee of a user session logged in already to "take" a session id from, nor am I running from a LocalSystem account (I'm running from a domain account for the service, for which I can adjust the privileges of, within reason, although I'd prefer to not have to escalate priorities to include SeTcbPrivileges.) For instance - here's a stub that I think should work, but always returns an error 1314 on the SetTokenInformation call (even though the AdjustTokenPrivileges returned no errors) I've used some alternate strategies involving "LogonUser" as well (instead of opening the existing process token), but I can't seem to swap out the session id. I'm also dubious about using the WTSActiveConsoleSessionId in all cases (for instance, if no interactive user is logged in) - although a quick test of the service running with no sessions logged in seemed to return a reasonable session value (1). I’ve removed error handling for ease of reading (still a bit messy - apologies) //Also tried using LogonUser(..) here OpenProcessToken(GetCurrentProcess(), TOKEN_QUERY | TOKEN_ADJUST_PRIVILEGES | TOKEN_ADJUST_SESSIONID | TOKEN_ADJUST_DEFAULT | TOKEN_ASSIGN_PRIMARY | TOKEN_DUPLICATE, &hToken) GetTokenInformation( hToken, TokenSessionId, &logonSessionId, sizeof(DWORD), &dwTokenLength ) DWORD consoleSessionId = WTSGetActiveConsoleSessionId(); /* Can't use this - requires very elevated privileges (LOCAL only, SeTcbPrivileges as well) if( !WTSQueryUserToken(consoleSessionId, &hToken)) ... */ DuplicateTokenEx(hToken, (TOKEN_QUERY | TOKEN_ADJUST_PRIVILEGES | TOKEN_ADJUST_SESSIONID | TOKEN_ADJUST_DEFAULT | TOKEN_ASSIGN_PRIMARY | TOKEN_DUPLICATE), NULL, SecurityIdentification, TokenPrimary, &hDupToken)) // Look up the LUID for the TCB Name privilege. LookupPrivilegeValue(NULL, SE_TCB_NAME, &tp.Privileges[0].Luid)) // Enable the TCB Name privilege in the token. tp.PrivilegeCount = 1; tp.Privileges[0].Attributes = SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED; if (!AdjustTokenPrivileges(hDupToken, FALSE, &tp, sizeof(TOKEN_PRIVILEGES), NULL, 0)) { DisplayError("AdjustTokenPrivileges"); ... } if (GetLastError() == ERROR_NOT_ALL_ASSIGNED) { DEBUG( "Token does not have the necessary privilege.\n"); } else { DEBUG( "No error reported from AdjustTokenPrivileges!\n"); } // Never errors here DEBUG(LM_INFO, "Attempting setting of sessionId to: %d\n", consoleSessionId ); if (!SetTokenInformation(hDupToken, TokenSessionId, &consoleSessionId, sizeof(DWORD))) *** ALWAYS FAILS WITH 1314 HERE *** All the debug output looks fine up until the SetTokenInformation call - I see session 0 is my current process session, and in my case, it's trying to set session 1 (the result of the WTSGetActiveConsoleSessionId). (Note that I'm logged into the W2K8 box via VNC, not RDC) So - a the questions: Is this approach valid, or are all service-initiated processes restricted to session 0 intentionally? Is there a better approach (short of "Launch on logon" and auto-logon for the servers?) Is there something wrong with this code, or a different way to create a process token where I can swap out the session id to indicate I want to spawn the process in a new session? I did try using LogonUser instead of OpenProcessToken, but that didn't work either. (I don't care if all spawned processes share the same non-zero session or not at this point.) Any help much appreciated - thanks! • rpmbuild generates RPM in which subdirectory

    - by Adil
rpmbuild generates RPM under which directory? I checked the RPMS directory:- [root@tom adil]# ls /usr/src/redhat/ BUILD RPMS SOURCES SPECS SRPMS [root@tom adil]# ls /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/ athlon i386 i486 i586 i686 noarch [root@tom adil]# How to decide rpmbuild outputs in which of the above sub-directories? Is it controlled by spec file? What is the default option? I thought uname -p but its not the case probable uname -i is used. • OpenGL Game development for the Desktop / Platform issues

    - by anon
Does anyone have experience writing professional OpenGL games on Windows? For the Mac, due to apple's control, the OS seems quite "uniform". For windows, due to different hardware, different drivers installed, etc ... the hardware base seems to have many many different configurations. In theory, OpenGL provides a API that abstracts all this away. In practice, many drivers are often buggy and have weird cases -- has this been a problem for developing games on Windows? Thanks!

  • Recompile a x86 code with LLVM to some faster one x86

    - by osgx
Hello Is it possible to run LLVM compiler with input of x86 32bit code? There is a huge algorithm which I have no source code and I want to make it run faster on the same hardware. Can I translate it from x86 back to x86 with optimizations. This Code runs a long time, so I want to do static recompilation of it. Also, I can do a runtime profile of it and give to LLVM hints, which branches are more probable. The original Code is written for x86, and uses no SSE/MMX/SSE2. After recompilation It has a chances to use x86_64 and/or SSE3. Also, The code will be regenerated in more optimal way to hardware decoder. Thanks.

  • Windows 2003 IIS FTP Server Migration w/ User Accounts

    - by Brad
I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate an FTP server from old hardware to new hardware. The server is on a domain, but not all the users setup on the server (to use FTP) are domain accounts, some are local to the server. For example, I have users both ways: domain\username machinename\username The new machine name will be different. So I need to copy all the files with permissions in tact from the old server to the new server. Then I need to convert all the user accounts from the old server to the new server. Then I need to change the file permissions so that they are no longer oldserver\username but newserver\username. Can this be accomplished all with CALCS? Is there an easy way that perhaps I'm missing?

  • What is the life cycle of the XNA GraphicsDevice on the Xbox 360?

    - by David Brown
I'm working on an XNA project that doesn't use the built-in Game class, mostly for learning purposes (so I can mess with different game loop types, etc). It's only designed for the Xbox 360, because the hardware is consistent and I don't have to worry about compatibility among different PC hardware configurations. So far, it's working well and I can clear the screen to a color, but I'd like to make sure I handle the GraphicsDevice correctly before moving on. What exactly is the life cycle for the GraphicsDevice on the Xbox 360? Is it ever lost or reset automatically? I know that on Windows, it's lost when the window loses focus, but the Xbox obviously doesn't manage focus. It appears to even keep the graphics device when the Guide pops up, which is the closest thing I can find to "losing focus" on the Xbox. I'd like to think it's simply a matter of "fire and forget," which would make a lot of other things much easier (only needing to load content once, for instance). But I want to make sure.

  • Where to go after Informix 4GL?

    - by Chris Harris
We have a large homegrown ERP system written in Informix 4GL. Currently we are running on old Sun hardware, Solaris 8, and a ten year old version of 4GL and Informix. We need to move on, and one option obviously is to get the latest versions of 4GL & Informix, installed on new hardware (probably Linux/Intel). However I believe there are options for migrating 4GL programmes to other development platforms. Does anyone have experience of that? If so, what platforms, how did it go, what are the pros and cons?

  • Porting a project to OpenGL3

    - by Decapsuleur
Hi everyone, I'm working on a C++ cross-platform OpenGL application (Windows, Linux and MacOS) and I am wondering if some of you could share some advices on porting a large application to OpenGL 3. The reason I am looking into OpenGL 3 is because I think we could benefit a lot from using the new "Sync objects". Nvidia has supported such an extension since the Geforce 256 days (gl_nv_fences) but there seems to be no equivalent functionality on ATI hardware before OpenGL 3.0+... Our code makes quite heavy use of glut/freeglut, glu functions, OpenGL 2 extensions and CUDA (on supported hardware). The problem I am now facing is that "gl3.h" and "gl.h" are mutually incompatible (as stated in gl3.h). Do you guys know if there is a GL3 glut equivalent ? Also, looking at the CUDA-toolkit header files, it seems that GL-CUDA interoperability is only available when using older versions of OpenGL... (cuda_gl_interop.h includes gl.h...). Am I missing something ? Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Message pump in .NET Windows service

    - by Pickles
I have a Windows Service written in C# that handles all of our external hardware I/O for a kiosk application. One of our new devices is a USB device that comes with an API in a native DLL. I have a proper P/Invoke wrapper class created. However, this API must be initialized with an HWnd to a windows application because it uses the message pump to raise asynchronous events. Besides putting in a request to the hardware manufacturer to provide us with an API that does not depend on a Windows message pump, is there any way to manually instantiate a message pump in a new thread in my Windows Service that I can pass into this API? Do I actually have to create a full Application class, or is there a lower level .NET class that encapsulates a message pump?

  • Is there any way to limit the size of an STL Map?

    - by Nathan Fellman
I want to implement some sort of lookup table in C++ that will act as a cache. It is meant to emulate a piece of hardware I'm simulating. The keys are non-integer, so I'm guessing a hash is in order. I have no intention of inventing the wheel so I intend to use stl::map for this (though suggestions for alternatives are welcome). The question is, is there any way to limit the size of the hash to emulate the fact that my hardware is of finite size? I'd expect the hash's insert method to return an error message or throw an exception if the limit is reached. If there is no such way, I'll simply check its size before trying to insert, but that seems like an inelegant way to do it.

  • How to control a NSView, located in a dedicated NSWindow, from the main NSWindow designed to support

    - by Michael
Hi, This is probably a simple problem for the high skilled Cocoa programmers, but I can't find how to control the graph in a separate window. I read carefully the Cocoa related books, go through many web notes, but I can't find a solution to my problem. The purpose is to use a dedicated window to draw the I=F(Vg) curves extracted by the GUI from a specific hardware. All the GUI and the hardware works fine ( thanks to the help provided by several members of stackoverflow) , but no way to send the parameters to the NSView to display the results. So far, the GUI class is based on a NSObject, the graphic class is NSView. Any idea, examples, links will be appreciated. Thank you so much. Michael

  • How can I get latency info from Android's AudioTrack class?

    - by Ryan
I've noticed that the C++ classes underlying the AudioTrack and AudioRecord APIs in Android both have a latency() method that is not exposed via JNI. As far as I can see, the latency() method in AudioRecord still does not take into account the hardware latency (they have a TODO comment for that), but the latency() method in AudioTrack does add in the hardware latency. I absolutely need to get this latency value from AudioTrack. Is there any possible way I can do this? I don't care what kind of crazy hack is needed as long as it doesn't require a rooted phone (the resulting code must still be packaged as an app on the market).

  • Licensing your code in Mono

    - by Jerry
I'm working with some code in Visual Studio. My parter-in-crime fellow developer has suggested that the code also be available to work under Mono. I'm impresed witht he work that is already done in Mono, but I'm very new to Mono, so I don't know what it can/cannot do. I've already written a class in C# using the .NET LicenseManager object. It writes to the windows registry, so I know I'll have to modify it so that it will use some compiler flags like #if Win32 or #if MONO. My question is two-fold: 1) Does Mono implement the same LicenseManager class structure? 2) If so, how do you guys lock down your code using LicenseManager in Linux? (i.e. Write to files, use a hardware dongle, compare to hardware serials, etc??)

  • How would I access the Windows Login (Authentication) API from a C++ Service Application?

    - by Gabriel
Let us imagine for a moment that I have a piece of hardware that can act as an authentication for a user on a given system. I want to write an application in C++ to run as a service, look for this device and if found log the appropriate user in. I believe I have found the API's I would need to use to perform the hardware and service portions of the application but am having a hard time nailing down a way to create a "real" user login. Is this possible? If so where would I look to find resources on accomplishing this? I think of it as being an analog to fingerprint scanner login type devices.

  • How to run Erlang based robot? Is it possible to convert it into .hex and run over microcontroller?

    - by Dinesh
I am working on Erlang robotic project. I have made a wallfollower robot program which has two files 1. a C program to communicate with hardware(I think we can not directly use Erlang for this) and 2. Erlang program to call these functions. I want to know where(platforms) I can run this robot. Is it possible to run this robot over micro-controller(8051 or ARM7) based hardware? Is it possible to convert Erlang program into C code or directly into .hex file? If any one have any idea please help asap. Thanks.

  • How does Linux blocking I/O actually work?

    - by tgguy
In Linux, when you make a blocking i/o call like read or accept, what actually happens? My thoughts: the process get taken out of the run queue, put into a waiting or blocking state on some wait queue. Then when a tcp connection is made (for accept) or the hard drive is ready or something for a file read, a hardware interrupt is raised which lets those processes waiting to wake up and run (in the case of a file read, how does linux know what processes to awaken, as there could be lots of processes waiting on different files?). Or perhaps instead of hardware interrupts, the individual process itself polls to check availability. Not sure, help?

  • Android Internet permission and Google Play filtering

    - by Ivan
I added <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> to my manifest in order to have access to Internet, but this is not a main function of my app. So, I don't want to get filtered in Google Play because of this. There is no matching <uses-feature> for this, so my question is what do I need to add with required="false" to avoid filtering. I guess I could add <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.wifi" android:required="false" /> but what about mobile Internet (3G/4G), do I also need this? <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.telephony" android:required="false"/> I want to know which filtering android.permission.INTERNET adds on Google Play, if it adds something.

  • How to set a filter for an estimated maximum price

    - by David
I cannot figure out how to set an estimated maximum price for a collection of records. What I want to avoid is to simply use SQL MAX, because maybe there are records with exorbitant prices. For example, in the "computers-hardware" category of OLX (http://www.olx.com/computers-hardware-cat-240) the filter for maximum price is estimately set to $1400, but sorting by price, the first items are above $10000 Maybe they calculated the average and then estimated some maximum price... what do you think? And what about the stepping? How would you calculate it?

  • What Windows Form control would be a good fit for this use case?

I'm going create an open source Help desk solution free of charge for small to medium businesses to use. I'm currently working on the client application. I want to have a list of tickets that have been opened by the user. So it would be like a table TicketsByUser: Ticket Number | Type | Description | Date | Handled? 123456 | Hardware | My mouse broke | 10/20/2010 | No 123456 | Hardware | My mouse broke | 10/20/2010 | Yes I was thinking of using ListView because of it's name, but I have zero experience with it, so maybe it's not what I'm looking for. I'm going to be pulling the data from a WCF service which in turn pulls it from a MS SQL database.

  • Sending an SMS myself

    - by user246114
Hi, I'm taking shots in the dark here. I'd like to create a web service where eventually I send an SMS by using my own hardware. I'm not sure what I need in order to send an SMS myself. I don't want to use any of the existing SMS send services out there, I need to be able to send these SMS myself. It looks like there's one opensource project in particular that deals with this, "Kannel": http://www.kannel.org/ what I don't understand is, do I need to get a GSM modem to be able to send SMS? Do SMS gateways (like Kannel) eventually need to get to a GSM modem to send messages, or is there some other hardware you need to be able to actually send the messages? Thanks
