• Use JS to add characters into textfield

  I want to add a $ symbol before a users entry into a text field without actually submitting the $ when the user clicks submit. Additionally, I need to prohibit the user from entering anything but numerical values in to the text input. I know about the JQuery input mask (http://www.conetrees.com/2009/03/blog/jquery-masked-input-plugin-increase-usability-for-masked-format-input-fields) but this plugin requires you to set the exact number of digits/letters that the user is supposed to enter, which is no good for my current project. Can anyone think of a way to accomplish what I have described above?

  I am building an ASP.NET MVC application that is AJAX-driven. For some reason I need to add some DOM elements on the fly when clicking a submit button. This is accomplished with jQuery.append(). One element inserted is a textarea, whose the data must be parse before submitting to ensure that no cross-site scripting can be done. We know that the Html.Encode() works great but must be declared outside a script tag. All I have done with jQuery is embedded within a script tag. 1) Is there a way to take advantage of the Html.Encode() within a script tag? 2) How can I accomplish this with jQuery? At worst I can use HttpUtility.HtmlEncode(), which is called on the server-side. Thanks for your help. Roland

• Override jQuery style value

  Hi To resolve a jQuery slideDown/Up problem, I had to change one line in the jQuery file. I changed line 5738 from this.elem.style.display = "block"; to this.elem.style.display = "inline-block"; The block attribute messed up my lists when using slideDown/Up/Toggle. slideDown changes my list from display:inline to display:block during execution, and then back to display: inline again. It would be much better if it was inline (or inline-block) all the way. Is there a way to override the value stated above from my html page, or do I have to stick with my modified jQuery file?   In my rails app I have a search bar where users can search other users. Currently when a User submits the search from, they're redirected to a "results" page. I want to load those results in a div on the same page..   Basically I create a page with a jQuery scroller on it. However in IE7 specifically, on refresh all the li's on the page are shown full out then they hide and the scroller begins. Anyone know how I can fire the jquery first, or prevent this from happening. • Can run Javascript but not jQuery?

  I'm running into a strange problem - I tried running a basic function in JS and jQuery, and while the former worked, the latter didn't. JS - okay alert('Works'); jQuery - not okay $(document).ready({ alert('Works'); }); Here's some facts: My references to the jQuery library are correct (And pretty sure my Internet connection is steady :) I'm using a CDN - CloudFlare to be exact, but I've switched development mode on and Rocket Loader off - so all the code I've uploaded to the server is WYSIWYG (CloudFlare adds some stuff in the tags if you leave Rocket Loader on. I tried running the alert code in the head section, and elsewhere in the body tags, to no avail. What could have possibly gone wrong?   Hello, I'm using (trying to use) jQuery to add a class to the first paragraph of every div with class of ".djBio" My problem is that it's only adding the class to the first div.djBio, not all divs with that class. Here's the code.   Hi, so I want to do something like when you press on LogOut, you get a waiting message like "please wait.." while its running ucp.php?mode=logout in the background, and after it has loaded that it should refresh the site. How should this be done??   I have some jQuery code something like this: $(document).ready(function() { $("img.off").click(function() { alert('on'); $(this).attr('class', 'on'); }); $("img.on").click(function() { alert('off'); $(this).attr('class', 'off'); }); }); The selector works fine for images that have the class name defined in the original HTML document, however after manipulating the class name with jQuery, the img item will not respond to selectors using it's new class. In other words, running the above code, if you click an 'off' img, it will trigger the first function, and change the class to 'on'. However, clicking this image again does not trigger the second function (as I would have expected), but rather triggers the first again. It's as if the selector is reading the old DOM rather than the updated version. What am I doing wrong here? Firefox 3.6.3 - jQuery 1.4.2

• How to repopulate DataTables when having lots of data?

  Hi I am using datatables jquery plugin. I now have to clear the entire datatable and populate it with new data on the fly(all done through ajax). So what I was thinking to do is when I need to do this. Destroy the datatable remove the data html call up the partial view that renders the table Rebind the datatable with jquery. However it seems that datatable has no destroy method. So I know you can set the datatable to do something with ajax but I am not sure how. My datatable just uses the dom way when the page is loaded. I don't want to use the "fnAddData" as I am not sure how to format this 2d array they want and I don't think this is the best option. I think the best option is some how render the partial view back and use there ajax plugin. But I am not sure where that is or how to use it(I know it exists but that's about it). Thanks

  I have a strange problem that probably have a really simple explanation that i've just havn't found. I'm making a WordPress plugin and i want to use jQuery in my settings-page for the plugin. The front end function is being used on pages and that's working fine to. the problem is the admin function, it's not working at all. is there a speial way i have to write a .click()-function to get it to work on my settings-page for the wordpress plugin?

Using jQuery is not always an option (or even a want) which can make understanding the examples of javascript solutions written in jQuery hard.   I am simply attempting to get jquery to identify the first letter of a paragraph. How would I do this? For example, I have a page with a number of paragrahs on a page. I would like only the paragraphs starting with a specified letter to be given the class "current" and all others to be hidden. I pretty much know how to add the class and hide the others but, I cant get jquery to recognize the first letter. Secondly, is it possible to pull this 'first letter' variable from the url string? For example, Page 1 - There is a list of letters. The user clicks 'B' and the url is http://domain.com/page2.html?letter=b And page2 picks up that variable (b) and applies it to the Jquery, showing only those paragraphs

  Hi, i have this two lists, from which i can move items from one to another with jquery ui and connect lists, with ajax. If an item is pulled over, a message is generated in a php file and then it appears on screen. Now i want that for example the right list should be allowed to contain ten items at max. It would be great if it would be possible with jquery, that if there is already ten items in the list and you go and drag the eleventh, if then the item would somehow vanish, maybe with a little effekt. I think maybe reading out db in the php-file if theres already ten items, and so on. But i have currently no idea, if and in case if in which way, jquery would support this kind of behaviour. I need jquery to check if an element exists, and if so, add a class to a different element.   Ok, i saw some other posts about this sort of thing, but not exactly related. This is not what I want to do, but need to do unfortunately. We have in this order right now Prototype 1.6 jQuery 1.2.6 with noConflict on jQuery with j I need to add jQuery 1.4.2 in that mix as well. It will always be the last one loaded. No option.   Hi, my question referenced to my friend. I am trying to use jquery to show flash videos(swf) like a showcase and this is what I am trying to do: Show a video by default and then have "" below that so when an user click on prev or next, it will show the next one and so on. When a video is clicked after making the selection it can either open the video on top of it in a bigger size Or play the video once right there once they click the play button. I have seen examples for images and I tried those but it did not work with flash files. Please let me know if anyone can guide me. I prefer using jquery as there are applications on the site that uses jquery. Also, I just remembered one thing, how to stop the video if they navigate to the next one. This makes me think if its a good idea to do the gallery or showcase for flash videos. Please clarify my questions. thanks
