• Printer "ripping" forever (network printer)

  Since I installed Ubuntu 11.10, printing is a disaster. I did not have the problem with Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04), but maybe it just comes from the fact that someone else had installed it for me, and possibly it configured better. When I print a pdf, even 2 pages, my printer (SHARP MX 2300N) stays in rippen for hours. "Rippen" is a German word, not really sure how to translate. Google translate says, The English equivalent is "Rib". And eventually, sometimes, the pages finally get printed. But in between my whole floor is very angry because they also need the printer. Additionally, I don't always have the whole day for waiting for my pages. I remember that when printing I used to be asked if I wanted to reduce transparency effects, which does not seem to happen anymore after I installed Ubuntu 11.10. Is there any connection? Not sure, because I don't think it was for pdf files.

• How can I install bleachbit in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

  I'm unable to install bleachbit on my laptop running Ubuntu 12.04. The Ubuntu Software Centre shows that the package is available from the Universe software source and I have the option to "use this source" but after that, it gets stuck while quering software sources. How can I fix this problem? It's occurred to me that perhaps this could be from software sources being deleted in my configuration. If so, can someone tell me the default list of software sources? plz help me out and sorry for my poor english

• Changing DisplayMode seems not to update Input&Graphic Dimension

  I'm writing a small game using Slick and Nifty-GUI. At the program startup I set the DisplayMode using the following lines: AppGameContainer app = new ... app.setDisplayMode( 800, 600, false ); app.start(); I wrote a Nifty-ScreenController for my settings dialog in which the user can select the desired DisplayMode. When I try to set the new DisplayMode within this controller class the game window gets resized correctly but the Graphics and Input objects aren't updated accordingly. Therefore my rendering code just uses a part of the new window. I tried to set different DisplayModes in the main method to test if it's generally possible to invoke this method multiple times. It seems that changing the DisplayMode only works before I call app.start(). Furthermore I tried to update the Graphics & Input object manually but the init and setDimensions methods are package private. :( Does someone know what I'm doing wrong and how to change the DisplayMode correctly?

• Best way to find freelance c# developer

  I am a developer based in London developing a desktop WPF business application using c# (+ MVVM/DDD/Nhibernate/Unity/Postsharp...). I need to find someone to review my code to suggest improvements and then to write integration tests. This could potentially be an ongoing relationship, expanding into writing new features etc. It would suit an experienced developer with a strong interest in design principles and writing clean code, who can work part time. However, the developer would need to work at my home based office (although timing is flexible). Websites such as elance and odesk seem to tie you in, and I would prefer to pay a one off introduction fee and then deal with the developer direct. Stack exchange seems quite expensive but is a possibility if I don't find an alternative. So, are there any other websites I can try?

  I hope someone can help me out here. I am coding a site for a client using the carouFredsel. I am using this because it allows for variable widths with in the slideshow as seen here: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index-old.html. My problems are as follows: to use the built in auto center script the scrolling changes the white space in between images during the transition to fit the width of the wrapper. I have found a lot of dated instructions on the net and just wanted to know what the right way is to set it up on 12.04. I don't want to mess up a brand new install by tweaking things that don't need tweaking. According to most posts, you have to install the Windows drivers using the ndiswrapper package. Is this still the right way to go? If so, it would be great if someone could write down the steps to do this under 12.04

• Web Host for Small Rails-based CMS site [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I am building a site for someone that uses a Rails-based content management system that I built myself. All of the Rails deployment experience I have so far has been over small intranets. I'm looking at web hosts like rackspace, because it seems like they're well-suited for Rails deployment. However, for a site that's not going to have more than a couple of hundred hits a month (if even that), I'm not sure it's necessary. I've also used Dreamhost's Phusion Passenger deployment for small projects before, but it seems barely functional and not well-supported, and I've also used Heroku for deployment, but I think a regular web host may do a little bit better, as they'll need things like Google Apps for Gmail set up. If anyone could provide some guidance on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I get confused when I see things on rackspace like "1.5c/hour", because I'm not sure how that gets computed.

• URL Rewrite http to https EXCEPT files in a specific subfolder

  I am trying to force all traffic on my web site to use HTTPS, using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module added to IIS 7.5. I got that working and now have a need to exclude a couple of pages from using SSL. So I need a rule to rewrite all URL except those referencing this folder to HTTPS. I've been banging my head against the wall on this and am hoping someone can help. • Issues signing up for Windows Azure free trial and pay as you go service

  I get the following error when trying to sign up for the Azure 90-day free trial: We can't authorize the payment method. Please make sure the information is correct, or use another payment method. If you continue to get this message, please contact your financial institution. I've tried three different cards, two credit and one debit. Those cards are issued from two different banks. I've also tried the cards on two separate accounts. Someone from my work also confirmed that he could not sign up for the free trial either. Has anyone else had this problem? I haven't really seen much help searching Google and the support staff doesn't seem interested in helping people sign up for free accounts.

• Upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04

  On doing an upgrade from 10.10. to 11.04 using Upgrade Manager everything works fine. But on installing a software that bundle its owns runtime environment( loader and system files) and installs the custom runtime ( basically loader) in the location where the native one resides, the above mentioned upgrade fails.(Upgrade starts and after sometime it encounters an error and aborts.) Basically , /usr/bin/dpkg throws up an error on being unable to locate a system shared library in the aforesaid third party runtime folder ( /usr/bin/dpkg should not search the third party runtime folder.Instead it should look at the system default folder) But if we remove the installed third party loader from the default system location /lib and place it in some other location , the upgrade problem goes away. This makes me believe /usr/bin/dpkg invokes(loads) the wrong loader and as such goes looking for the dependent libraries in the third party folder. Can someone take a look at this ? is there some bug with dpkg

• Configuration of the network manager via DBus: how to set the ad hoc mode

  I have an hard nut to crack: a nice bottle of italian Chianti wine to the solver! :) To automatically configure Wifi, I first have to kill the network manager and than activate the wifi via the commandline: I do this all automatically in my application and works great. However... it is not the right way to do this. As the user has no network gui anymore to configure some other network access. A much better and transparent way would be to configure wifi directly via network manager over the DBus interface. I was able to configure it, but I wasn't able to set it to ad hoc mode... Searching the web for a while: a lot about configuration in general but nothing related to ad hoc mode. I think the only way to do figure that out is to look into the source code of the network manager...maybe someone already did it and he can answer.

  I am new to web development and trying to study various types of websites as case study. Right now my focus is on how search engines works for an eCommerce website. I know basic functioning for a search engine, i.e. crawl web pages, index them and the display the results using those indexes. But I got little confuse in case of an eCommerce website. Don't you think that it would be better if a search engine instead of crawling the web pages containing products, it should directly crawl the database and index the products stored in the database? And when a user search for any product, it will simply give us the rows of the table which matches the user query? If this is not the case, can someone please explain how the usual method works on eCommerce website?

  I've got a question concerning node.js performance. There is quite lot of "benchmarks" and a lot of fuss about great performance of node.js. But how does it stand in real world? Not just process empty request at high speed. If someone could try to compare this scenario: Java (or equivalent) server running an application with complex business logic between receiving request and sending response. How would node.js deal with it? If there was need for a lot of JavaScript processing on server side, is node.js really so fast that it can execute JavaScript, and stand a chance against more heavyveight competitors?

  this may be kind of an odd question. My friend has challenged me. So somehow, he change the "port" of his site to 31337. If you just go to domain.com, you get redirected to google, to access the real site you go to domain.com:31337. He is going to change it again and he is challenging me to find out which port it is. • Laptop won't boot or enter BIOS after deleting partition in Windows 7

  I dual boot my computer and later decided to delete one of the Ubuntu partitions while using Windows 7. After my computer hibernated and I tried restarting my ASUS laptop it stopped at the logo and preventing me from entering the BIOS. When I take out my hard dive it allows me to enter the BIOS. It does not boot from a CD if the hard drive is still attached to the computer. After taking the hard drive out then it boots from the CD. Can someone please help?

  Just posting this blog tonight hoping it might save someone else a bunch of time. For call recording on Skype, I use a program called Pamela. Lately, when I'd first installed it, it would work fine. Later, however, it would come up and say: "Another application (Pamela.exe) is attempting to access Skype, but we are unable to respond".   I want to implement functionality which let user share posts by other users similar to what Facebook and Google+ share button and twitter retweet. There are 2 choices: 1) I create duplicate copy of the post and have a column which keeps track of the original post id and makes clear this is a shared post. 2) I have a separate table shared post where I save the post id which is a foreign key to post id in post table. Talking in terms of programming basically I keep pointer to the original post in a separate table and when need to get post posted by user and also shared ones I do a left join on post and shared post table Post(post_id(PK), post_content, posted_by) SharedPost(post_id(FK to Post.post_id), sharing_user, sharedfrom(in case someone shares from non owners profile)) I am in favour of second choice but wanted to know the advice of experts out there? One thing more posts on my webapp will be more on the lines of facebook size not tweet size.

Even when I change the options of bugs to show I don't get these bugs.First I thought these were bugs being set to 'wishlist' but some of them are showing up in the list.   For my game, I need EaseFunction in LoopEntityModifier. In my game, I am rotating ball over certain object. For giving effect I want to use EaseFunction. I want to rotate ball around an object take around 4 to 5 round that was already rotating but I want add some effect so that it looks good. For this I have to use EaseFunction which suits my needs. But if I put EaseFunction in rotation modifier then each round rotation modifier apply an effect of EaseFunction that I want only one time occur either starting or ending time. So if I can able to provide EaseFunction in LoopEntityModifier then it will good for me or something similar also work for me. At present my code is something similar like this. new LoopEntityModifier(new RotationModifier(...)); I hope someone has some idea on this.

  Cannot open the disk 'D:\My Documents\My Virtual Machines\Ubuntu\Ubuntu-1.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: The physical disk is already in use. ====================== When I powered on my Ubuntu on VMwave, a window showed up within words above. I tried to remove the old hard disk in settings and created a new one, but it still doesnot work. Also, I tried to delete the .lck files and even the doc. BUT....... Has someone solved this problem? I bought a usb/serial adapter based on PL2303X and not PL2303. 1- Do you know of any patches to make the PL2303X detectable and functional? 2- Assuming I got the patch, and before I apply it, I wanted to upgrade my kernel.
