• Mobile traffic of my second site redirected to my base site [Edited,have a look]

  I have a strange issue with my website and it seems i am unable to understand what cauese the problem.I would highly appreciate your help.The Scenario is I have two websites. Website A Website B Website A is simply hosted within the root directory of my hosting account.Within this root *directory* i have a sub folder " subfolder A " and within which is another subfolder " subfolder B " that contains my site Website B so the path looks like root/sublfolder_A/subfolder_B/ that contains my **Website B ( i.e subfolder_B) ** All goes fine.When i access the website B from my desktop/Laptop Website B is loaded normally. but when i access the Website through a mobile device , mobile site of Website A is loaded while as it should load website_B Also , to let you know , both websites have different URL's and not subdomain's or anything. What could be the problem ? htaccess of website B or website A ? or something else ? • SharePoint Search Problem: The crawler could not communicate with the server.

  This one was not easy to solve ... Error: The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured. Context: Some pages were not crawled (giving the above error) and, what is worse, all the sub content of that site was not crawled either! (the pages were the homepages of the site) Solution:The pages that could not be crawled due to this error contained a custom web part. This web part used default credentials for a given action. During crawling, the SP_Search account tried to perform this action but did not have the appropriate rights.   I'm working on a WinForms .Net Recording App and I have a RecordingMgr in my BLL to listen for new events captured by another class. I want to display the events in my UI and I'm stuck as to what's the best way to do this. I can think of a few scenarios to handle this but all of them seem sub-optimal: Listen for and handle Recorded Events in both the UI and in the RecordingMgr After receiving the event in the RecordingMgr, raise it again so that the UI can pick it up Create a variable in RecordingMgr (e.g., a BindingList) that the UI can bind to and update it when an Event is received Ditch the RecordingMgr and just put the event recording logic in the UI What's the best approach? Something above or something else?

• Database Partitioning and Multiple Data Source Considerations

  With the release of P6 Reporting Database 3.0 partitioning was added as a feature to help with performance and data management.  Careful investigation of requirements should be conducting prior to installation to help improve overall performance throughout the lifecycle of the data warehouse, preventing future maintenance that would result in data loss. Before installation try to determine how many data sources and partitions will be required along with the ranges.  In P6 Reporting Database 3.0 any adjustments outside of defaults must be made in the scripts and changes will require new ETL runs for each data source.  Considerations: 1. Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition of Oracle Database.   If you aren't using Oracle Enterprise Edition Database; the partitioning feature is not available. Multiple Data sources are only supported on Enterprise Edition of Oracle   Database. 2. Number of Data source Ids for partitioning during configuration.   This setting will specify how many partitions will be allocated for tables containing data source information.  This setting requires some evaluation prior to installation as       there are repercussions if you don't estimate correctly.   For example, if you configured the software for only 2 data sources and the partition setting was set to 2, however along came a 3rd data source.  The necessary steps to  accommodate this change are as follows: a) By default, 3 partitions are configured in the Reporting Database scripts. Edit the create_star_tables_part.sql script located in <installation directory>\star\scripts   and search for partition.  You’ll see P1, P2, P3.  Add additional partitions and sub-partitions for P4 and so on. These will appear in several areas.  (See P6 Reporting Database 3.0 Installation and Configuration guide for more information on this and how to adjust partition ranges). b) Run starETL -r.  This will recreate each table with the new partition key.  The effect of this step is that all tables data will be lost except for history related tables.   c) Run starETL for each of the 3 data sources (with the data source # (starETL.bat "-s2" -as defined in P6 Reporting Database 3.0 Installation and Configuration guide) The best strategy for this setting is to overestimate based on possible growth.  If during implementation it is deemed that there are atleast 2 data sources with possibility for growth, it is a better idea to set this setting to 4 or 5, allowing room for the future and preventing a ‘start over’ scenario. 3. The Number of Partitions and the Number of Months per Partitions are not specific to multi-data source.  These settings work in accordance to a sub partition of larger tables with regard to time related data.  These settings are dataset specific for optimization.  The number of months per partition is self explanatory, optimally the smaller the partition, the better query performance so if the dataset has an extremely large number of spread/history records, a lower number of months is optimal.  Working in accordance with this setting is the number of partitions, this will determine how many "buckets" will be created per the number of months setting.  For example, if you kept the default for # of partitions of 3, and select 2 months for each partitions you would end up with: -1st partition, 2 months -2nd partition, 2 months -3rd partition, all the remaining records Therefore with records to this setting, it is important to analyze your source db spread ranges and history settings when determining the proper number of months per partition and number of partitions to optimize performance.  Also be aware the DBA will need to monitor when these partition ranges will fill up and when additional partitions will need to be added.  If you get to the final range partition and there are no additional range partitions all data will be included into the last partition.

• Java best practice Interface - subclasses and constants

  In the case where a couple of classes implements an interface, and those classes have a couple of constants in common (but no functions), were should I put this constant ? I've had this problem a couple of times. I have this interface : DataFromSensors that I use to hide the implementations of several sub classes like DataFromHeartRateMonitor DataFromGps etc... For some reason, those classes uses the same constants. And there's nowere else in the code were it is used. My question is, were should I put those constants ? Not in the interface, because it has nothing to do with my API Not in a static Constants class, because I'm trying to avoid those Not in a common abstract class, that would stand between the interface and the subclasses, because I have no functions in common, only a couple of constants (TIMEOUT_DURATION, UUID, those kind of things) I've read best practice for constants and interface to define constants but they don't really answer my question. • How are USB ports related to the computer power, and why would they cause my computer to freeze?

  I have an issue with my new Toshiba laptop. Whenever I plug in an external USB device, if the laptop is not plugged in to the wall, the laptop freezes. However, nothing happens if the laptop is plugged in to the wall. When I say the laptop freezes, I mean it really freezes. The only way to recover is to hard reboot. My question is, what could be causing this? Could it be the extra power drain from the sub devices that causes this (even the simplest flash drives cause a freeze)? Please help me out, it's very annoying. Thanks

• What is the SEO-recommended method for using underscores and dashes in URLs that contain geographic locations?

  In reading through this article: In Subfolder & File Names, Use Dashes, Not Underscores Good: Good: http://www.domain.com/sub-folder/file-name.htm Bad: http://www.domain.com/sub_folder/file_name.htm In my URL's, I may have one or two city names, ending with the province/state: Burnaby_New_Westminister-BC/[some search term]. My URL rules currently are defined such that everything after the dash is the prov/state. Some geographic locations already contain dashes: Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (in QC), which I would convert to ~/Notre_Dame_de_Grace-QC/ I thought of placing the prov/state after another "/", however in some cases the province/state name may not exist, thus ~/Notre_Dame_de_Grace/, so the first term after the domain name contains the geo location {city, city_name-state}. I am now revisiting this, and wondering if this rule set should change, and if so, what is the recommended way of implementing this? -- UPDATE -- After reviewing this video, I see that I should be using the dashes, rather than underscores. However since I still want to have my geo locations in the first URL section, is there anything wrong with using a double-dash separator - ie: /city-name--state/ ?

• Should I use a workflow engine?

  I need to add some new features to a PHP application. It is to follow the steps of a order. A process create some orders, the order goes to confirmation, then if approved is sent to a provider, later the provider confirm that can deliver the order, a request is made to the provider and so on... I need to register when every step is made and send notifications. Also, some steps have a estimate time, and if that time is elapsed I need to send notifications so everybody know about the delay. When a process starts, it have a predefined set of steps, but in a middle the user should be able to create new sub-steps, and delete or skip future steps.. Should I use a workflow engine? Which one do you suggests (free-opensource only)?

  I'm making a game that uses an Entity/Component architecture basically a port of Artemis's framework to c++,the problem arises when I try to make a PlayerControllerComponent, my original idea was this. class PlayerControllerComponent: Component { public: virtual void update() = 0; }; class FpsPlayerControllerComponent: PlayerControllerComponent { public: void update() { //handle input } }; and have a system that updates PlayerControllerComponents, but I found out that the artemis framework does not look at sub-classes the way I thought it would. So all in all my question here is should I make the framework aware of subclasses or should I add a new Component like object that is used for logic.

• How do I recover files from U1 cloud

  OK I have just stopped syncing a folder. This appears to have been a huge mistake. I did not realise the folder would disappear from my cloud storage. I assume (and hope) the sub-folders/files it contained still exists in the cloud. I hope they still exists in the cloud because they do not exist on my computer. I did not delete these files from the cloud (I have tried to recover deleted files - none are being recovered). Where are they and how do I get them back into My storage?

• Silent install of Japanese Language Pack in Win7

  Every year, due to re-imaging, I am forced to find a way to install the Japanese language pack on a collection of 30 computers. Each year I look for a way to automate this process, and each year I am forced to do this manually. Maybe this year will be different. Has anyone had any luck with installing and configuring far east language support for windows 7 without user interaction? I have already downloaded kb972813 and have a way to get it out to the computers. What I normally do is this: Run the EXE, use the default settings. Open up language settings and create the JP keyboard. Configure the language bar settings. Copy settings to default user. Delete the local user cache. Sign the different user accounts in to make sure that the default settings are correct. This whole process takes about 10 minutes, multiply that out by 30 machines and you are looking at a 5 hour process. If I can log into all of the computers at once, I can normally cut that down to about an hour. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

• How to estimate what kind of server resources you will require at launch?

  How can I go about/what is the best way of estimating what kind of server resources I will require at the launch of a new project. Let's say for instance I'd gathered 10k users email addresses that opted-in to be informed when we launch. I didn't really want to go for a cloud solution at the moment. Should I just get a reasonably-specced dedicated server and go from there, or should I be looking at services like Amazon EC2? Or should I start out with EC2 for the fully-flexible resources, then once things stabilize I'll be able to sort a fixed hosting deal that is adequate elsewhere? Sub-question: What's a good way of estimating what load a particular application will place on the server per user?

  I have Visual Studio 2010 setup to remove and sort settings on save with the Power Commands extensions. This is great, but sometimes it removes the using System.Linq at the top. I also find myself scrolling to the top to add the using when I first add System.Linq.   I have a jobs website. There are categories and sub categories e.g the url for builders is www.mydomain.com/jobs/all/active/202/tradesmen/799/builders/county/all Because of the framework im using (Elgg), the "all" and "active" come after the plugin name. Also, i need to do a lot of things with the url: get the pplugin (job), get the correct type of entities (all and active), get the category (202 and tradesmen), get the subcategory (799 & builders) and get the location (county and all). Is this URL seo friendly or is it too messy? Is something like www.mydomain.com/jobs/tradesmen/builders/all better?

  We are working on a jobs and skills website (similiar to Skill Pages) and are deciding on categories. Rather than having load of categories like, for example, Builder, Electrician, Carpenter etc, we would like to have one word more general categories. So for example we have House, Computer, Education, Art etc. So a builder would be in category Home and a few others. Will this style negatively effect our SEO and ranking? And if so, should we abandon and go back to traditional categories and sub-categories?

But this is the business requirements. It should fail. Can this be regarded as a violation?
