  • Why aren't IOKit notifications being delivered with this code?

    I wrote this code to subscribe to USB devices being plugged in and unplugged; the point is for IOKit to deliver notifications to my iAttached() and iDetached() functions when the corresponding events occur. However, I don't get notifications. The code can be seen here: http://gist.github.com/402391 I didn't want to over-populate this page with it, as it is moderately long.

  • SQLite user_version() expression

    how can I get user_version into an expression (for SELECT or WHERE) ? I would also appreciate any clue to how to save ANY global variable in SQLite. Does anyone know of such an extension (dll) ? BTW: I know that PRAGMA user_version; gives me the right answer, but I cannot use that inside a WHERE-clause !

  • Script that replaces strings doesn't work on some sites

    I've created a simple Chrome extension that seeks for certain strings using regex and replaces matches with predefined text. It works well on most websites, but somehow the script doesn't take effect on, for example, Lifehacker (like this page http://lifehacker.com/5939740/five-best-audio-editing-applications?popular=true ). The code is: $('p, h1, h2, h3, span, .content, .post-body').each(function(){ //do something with $(this) }); Any ideas why is Lifehacker's site resistant to my script?

  • Convert &euro; -> € in XUL

    I need to convert HTML special symbols to their appropriate Unicode values in my Firefox extension. I'm not dealing with HTML DOM, so can't use the trick with giving value to div and taking back. Also there are too many of them to convert manually. Thought Firefox has something to use. The converted text should go to XUL's description element on statusbar. Any idea how to accomplish this?

  • how to open many tabs in chromium but unload/disable inactive/notCurrent ones, releasing memory and cpu?

    So I have 50 tabs opened on chromium, but that is using too much memory and some of the CPU. How can I have all those concurrent researches I am doing opened but not clog my machine? I think there should have a way that only the active tab is loaded in memory and running, and all the others should stay closed/unloaded from memory, until I want to look at them... Any extension can do something like that?

    Say you've got some IEnumerable called S of length N. I would like to select all continuous subsequences of length n <= N from S. If S were, say, a string, this'd be pretty easy. There are (S.Length - n + 1) subsequences of length n. For example, "abcdefg" is length (7), so that means it has (5) substrings of length (3): "abc", "bcd", "cde", "def", "efg". But S could be any IEnumerable, so this route isn't open. How do I use extension methods to solve this?

Is there a way in linux to force a driver to be associated with a known device, that do not involve kernel module recompilation to add a PID / VID pair ?

  • How long will a USB key with an OS installed on it last?

    I've heard numerous times that installing an OS on a USB key is a bad thing to do, as USBs typically have a certain number of writes before dying, and installing an OS on it will wear it out (unless it's used sporadically for rescue purposes). Nonetheless, I am very tempted to install some flavour of Linux (Ubuntu or Arch, I haven't decided yet) on a small, transportable, USB Key. My problem is, although you read a lot that it's "bad", you are never told how bad. How long would it last (provided, say, a pc that is 24/7 on)? A month? A year? Five years? Is there recipes to make it last longer? Is there any reason beside weariness that should prevent me from attempting this? I mean, if it can be calculated, then I could theoretically shield myself by doing regular backups on another key when the deadline gets close (for example). Notes I am not talking of using a USB as a live CD, but actually installing the OS on it.) When I say "USB Key", I refer to the little USBs with a flash memory, not an external USB hard drive. For the curious, my reason is that I work in a lot of different places, on different PCs, and I have a very customized session, with my own WM, my own key bindings, my own scripts, , a selection of plugins for firefox and chrome, etc, and currently I am synchronizing all this through a mix of dropbox, git, and transporting files on USBs, and and it's becoming a chore. It would be much simpler for me to just plug the USB and mount the hard disk of the PC I am using and use it's processing power without actually needing to install any OS on it.

    Hi Guys, I'm having an issue where after the server has been up for a period of time (~week/few days) the server will start reading corrupt data. For instance when I run a sha1sum of a file after a fresh boot it remains the same. However after a while I will start to get segfaults and from then on whenever I read this file I get a different sha1sum.   • Can't connect to SSL web service with WS-Security using PHP SOAP extension - certificate, complex WSDL

    Using the PHP5 SOAP extension I have been unable to connect to a web service having an https endpoint, with client certificate and using WS-Security, although I can connect using soapUI with the exact same wsdl and client certificate, and obtain the normal response to the request. There is no HTTP authentication and no proxy is involved. The message I get is 'Could not connect to host'. Have been able to verify that I am NOT hitting the host server. (Earlier I wrongly said that I was hitting the server.) The self-signed client SSL certificate is a .pem file converted by openssl from a .p12 keystore which in turn was converted by keytool from a .jks keystore having a single entry consisting of private key and client certificate. In soapUI I did not need to supply a server private certificate, the only two files I gave it were the wdsl and pem. I did have to supply the pem and its passphrase to be able to connect. I am speculating that despite the error message my problem might actually be in the formation of the XML request rather than the SSL connection itself. The wsdl I have been given has nested complex types. The php server is on my Windows XP laptop with IIS. The code, data values and WSDL extracts are shown below. (The WSSoapClient class simply extends SoapClient, adding a WS-Security Username Token header with mustUnderstand = true and including a nonce, both of which the soapUI call had required.) Would so much appreciate any help. I'm a newbie thrown in at the deep end, and how!     After upgrading to 13.04 from 12.10 Lubuntu lost audio playback after unplugging usb soundcard (Polycom) and plugging it back in.     I was wondering if there was a way I could program and compile .net applications (c#, asp.net mvc) from a usb stick on any laptop I plugged in. I am lookinjg for a solution that does not have me installing programs on the laptop, so I have to be able to run an ide or editor from an exe and compile presumably from command line. Was also wondering if I can run MS test projects from command line to check tests passed etc. Thanks

    I can browse using the desktop browsers via ..localhost:54647/... and from windows mobile emulators via my gateway ..//192.168.0.199:54647/..., but neither method works from either my Android emulator or from a usb attached itouch. I know I may have to run IIS locally but it's more convenient to run the development server from Visual Studio 2008. I'm running Vista with latest service packs. I'm developing a mobile app using ASP.Net MVC. Thanks!
