• Can't set up IIS Web Server on Server 2008 x64 correctly

  Using a VM I installed Windows 2008 Server x64 and as the image below shows, added the IIS Role full image and assigned all role features of IIS full image But if I have an ASP.NET (aspx) page that does (C#) Session["test-session"] = "A"; and read in other page I always get nothing! NOTE: I do have an entire ASP.NET web application, the example above is to be succinct and explicit on what is the problem I'm facing. Can anyone know what do I have to do to the Server, so I can use the Session variables? All help is greatly appreciated, Thank you

• Asus P6X58D & 12GB of RAM

  I just assembled my new PC and it screams, BUT it's only recognizing 8GB of ram in BIOS and OS rather than the installed 12GB. In the BIOS the RAM was registering at 1066 so I set it to 1600MHz. • Verizon HTC Eris - No sound on incoming phone call after 2.1 droid upgrade. Help!?

  Has anyone had the following issue? I've had several issues as well: No sound when call connects, ringing or people talking. Apps would force close like weather. I did call HTC support and they had me go into Menu, Settings, Manage Applications and then clear the cache of the problem app. They also had me clear the cache once the browser was open and then do a soft reset (power off the phone and take the battery out for 15 seconds) This did fix some issues, but I am constantly turning my phone on and off to get sound back on call or to make the assigned ringtones work. There's no rhyme or reason as to why they stop working... Anyone else tried anything different??? • Vista locks up after ~10h. of activity

  Hi everybody, I am experiencing a problem: Windows Vista completely freezes/locks up lately... It happened today twice - the mouse and keyboard stopped responding and I had to re-boot. I checked the Application Events Log and I see these two errors: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. and then The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SASDIFSV SASKUTIL I checked Help online and it points to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756390%28WS.10%29.aspx and suggests Updating the drivers. I'm not sure why would I have problem with drivers and if so, how can I find out which drivers to update? Can you please help me? Thanks in advance.

• How to Shrink large Hyper-V VM

  Using Disk2VHD utility I converted my bare-metal OS into Hyper-V VHD - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx And I could obtain a huge 190GB VHD file. Apart from performance issues, this VHD worked fine as guest when hosted on Windows Server 200 R2, Hyper-V. Having realized need to keeping only system files and application installations on VHD. I have deleted most of the junk data from this VHD and now it contains only 20-25 GB. But I am not able to shrink the VHD VM. Having done some research, I came to know, this as a limitation of .VHD files. Subsequently I followed these two step using Edit Virtual Hard Wizard on Windows 2012 Box. Convert from VHD to VHDX (took close to 3 hrs.) Compact (Another 4 hrs.) This did not ever shrink the VHDX either. Does Hyper-V does not provide proper support to handle large VHDs or VHDXs whose size are the range of 200GB.

• Can't uninstall/reinstall .NET Framework 3.5 with DISM

  My net framework 3.5 is broken. Verification tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx) says it's OK, but its not. Net framework 3.5 can't be just uninstalled/installed on Windows 7. But you can do this by add/remove windows features. For me this doesn't work, I receive thus (not very helpful) error message ... "An error occurred. not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled" I found DISM tool which does exactly same, but have log. And now: DISM /online /disable-feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 1603 error. And log: http://pastebin.com/4jBkEiT6 Any ideas how to do it?

  I have recently been trying to find software to monitor users' activities on our terminal server. After a quick search, I found http://www.softactivity.com/tsm.aspx. Has anyone ever heard of or used this program? I just want to make sure this company is legit and the software runs efficiently. The server I would be installing it on has about 40-50 users on it. I am hoping the software has some type of setting to only monitor certain users, because i would hate to waste resources. If this is not good software, does anyone have any recommendations?

• ASP.NET MVC app on IIS7 with WebForms content is throwing NTLM authenticate box

  I have an ASP.NET MVC app that also contains some WebForms content (for SSRS ReportViewer). This is deployed to IIS7 and the MVC pages of the app work fine, but when I try to browse to the aspx page I am prompted with the NTLM auth box. I do not have NTLM enabled, I only have Anonymous auth enabled. I have this deployed and fully working on an IIS6 box, the only other difference is that the IIS6 box is in our company domain, but the IIS7 box is not (I fail to see how this could be the issue as the MVC stuff is working fine). Any thoughts? Thanks.

• Sharepoint Services 3.0: 403 Forbidden fun

  Can't get to the Administration or the "companyweb" site itself; was working up to a week ago. Old threads, blog posts, etc. indicate that there was an issue with a KB update but was resolved when .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 was deployed/installed. Running Process Monitor, I can see a lot of PATH NOT FOUND','NAME NOT FOUND for c:\inetpub\companyweb\Default.aspx, \_themes\ice\...\foo.css, etc. for the w3wp.exe process on CreateFileorQueryOpenoperations. These files do not exist in the location specified. I don't recall these files actually existing in that folder, but I believe they're "created" when requested, pulled in from Common Files/Shared or whatever, in typically-awesome Microsoft Web architecture land (</rant>). Besides reinstalling (which I'm sure will be as much fun as migrating from one server to another was), anyone know what's going on? Google-fu has alluded me.

• Why does outlook 2013, after initial setup, always fail to connect to an Exchange server/always ask for a password?

  After installing Outlook 2013 configuring it to connect to an exchange server (details about which, e.g., version, etc., I do not know how to provide) was stressful and the user used outlook without issue for a session. The next time outlook is started this error (Re. subject) occurs. The answer to this question solves the issue, or explains why it is happening (i.e., no one could provide a solution). It is only after outlook is closed and re-opened that it will not connect again to the server. Apparently this IP is listed in the hotmail blacklists so that I can't send mails to hotmail users out of my webapplication. postfix/smtp[24706]: 8F31C9404B: to=<[email protected]>, relay=mx3.hotmail.com[65.55.37.88]:25, delay=0.66, delays=0.01/0/0.48/0.16, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host mx3.hotmail.com[65.55.37.88] said: 550 SC-001 Unfortunately, messages from 78.47.228.xxx weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors. (in reply to MAIL FROM command)) My hoster will not help me get that address removed from the blacklist. So I tried to find a way to do it on my own, but I can't find a way to ask Microsoft to remove my IP from that list. Has anyone managed to remove a falsely listed address? And if yes: how?

• Thinking about buying a LG 30" monitor

  I'd love to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005115 but I'm wondering if I should hold out until more LED monitors are on the market. I love really like the brightness of the 27" imac monitor and the above monitor is only rated at 5 cd/m2 less than that monitor, but wouldn't a back lit monitor appear to be much brighter than an LCD monitor? Does anyone know how the above monitor compares to the 27" imac monitor? Why are Apple monitors in general so much more expensive than other monitors - just the brand name? I must be confused about how to read the specs? Thanks in advance for your input!

  I often use the MSDN website for language reference. In order to make navigation faster, I downloaded the offline version of SQL Server 2005 Books Online from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=be6a2c5d-00df-4220-b133-29c1e0b6585f&displaylang=en The reason why it is 137MB is that it comes with its own GUI, which, not surprisingly, is rather poor! Apparently though, the pages are written in html. The URIs look like: ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/sqlcc9/html/674933a8-e423-4d44-a39b-2a997e2c2333.htm . I can open the URI in IE, but with errors. Do you know if I can open them with Firefox and how? Or is there a simple HTML version of "MS Books Online", for example in a ZIP file?

• SharePoint 2010 not seeing Active Directory users

  I'm pretty new to Active Directory and SharePoint but I was given to understand they are supposed to play well together. Now I have successfully set up AD with multiple user accounts that work on any member computer. I have also successfully installed SharePoint 2010 Server on an AD machine. Both the AD server and SharePoint servers are on separate machines (VMs running on ESXi to be precise). I can only log on with user accounts I create on the local server. Furthermore the user browser thing for adding users will only see local users. I've followed the advice here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262350.aspx#section2 for Classic authentication and also NTLM claims based authentication but to no avail. Is there something fundamental I am getting wrong here? I'd be really thankful for any help you can lend me; I've been googling and scratching my head for a couple of days now. P

• Asp.net 4.0 Handler Mappings Missing in IIS7

  I have two Windows 2008 R2 Servers running an asp.net 4.0 app. The server that is having problems actually loads asp.net pages just fine, but if there are any ajax calls they don't work. I noticed there are no .net 4.0 specific Handler Mappings in IIS for this server like the other server has. It's literally missing all .net 4.0 mappings (.axd, .soap, .cshtm, .ashx and even .aspx). I've tried running "aspnet_regiis -ir" but that didn't help. Should I reinstall the .net 4.0 framework? Manually add all these missing mappings? Is there something else going on? What I don't want to do is add a ton of handlers to a web.config, they aren't needed on the server that works so it shouldn't be needed on the broken one.

• Configure IIS to rewrite IP Address to Site Name

  So i've started my first web site from home, and I'm trying to get it up and running and google crawlable and the like, but I can't seem to figure out how to have my site name returned in the address bar instead of my IP address. I've purchased a domain name for my site on Godaddy and then set it to redirect to my site. When you type in the domain name, you get redirected to http://0.0.0.0/default.aspx (not my real IP obviously), and that stays in the user's address bar. In order to fix that temporarily, I've set up masking on Go Daddy which keeps the URL in the address bar, but just shows my website in a frame. This is fine for users visiting the site, however any kind of automated robot such as GoogleBot cannot discover my content because of the frame. I've looked into ISAPI filters and server-site-rewriting, and the like... but I just can't quite figure out how to do what I need it to do. Any simple suggestions or links would be appreciated.

  Has anyone implemented transport rules on a live@edu(or whatever Microsoft is calling it these days) instance to reject the delivery of messages that include SSN's? I see how to set up transport rules in Exchange 2007, and even how to do it in the Windows Live Admin page, though the rules there don't seem to allow for regexes, can anyone confirm this? • Installing ethernet drivers with no install package

  I recently got my new Sony Vaio laptop and formatted it into Windows 7 Ultimate. I would like to use the Windows Easy Transfer Tool over a network connection to transfer some of my files over from my desktop PC. Before I do this though, I need to install the ethernet LAN drivers (I'm currently using the built in Wifi). I downloaded the original LAN driver that came with my Vaio originally from the Sony website: http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/preinstalled/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VPCEB1Z0E_B [Scroll down to the 450KB Ethernet driver] When I unzip the package, these files are inside: yk62x64.cat yk62x64.dll yk62x64.inf yk62x64.sys As you can see, no installer. Can anyone guide me through how to properly install these drivers? I have thought of using Google but I'm clueless as to what query to use. Thanks.

• Why am I getting this SVN can't move .svn/tmp/x to trunk/x error?

  I am trying to checkout into the virtualbox shared folder with svn 1.7 in ubuntu 12.04 running as a guest on a windows 7 host. I had read that this error was a 1.6 problem, and updated - but am still receiving the error: svn: E000071: Can't move '/mnt/hostShare/code/www/.svn/tmp/svn-hsOG5X' to '/mnt/hostShare/code/www/trunk/statement.aspx?d=201108': Protocol error I found this blog post about the same error in a mac environment, but am finding that changing the folder/file permissions does nothing. vim .svn/entires just has the number 12 - does this need to be changed? Thank you for any assistance! (just another reason for why I prefer git...)

  Hi, We're using ADFS 2.0 on a windows 2008 server, it's in a farm and has the default polling interval of 5 minutes. We're making a change tonight and would rather sync immediately than wait for the other guy to update, especially as we might be making multiple changes.   When I enable SLI I keep getting artifacts in random games and in Windows Aero sometimes . It doesn't seem to be about over-heating as it happens randomly, and sometimes whole computers just crashes (not blue-screen, just black gone...) My setup: Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB ( http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr88512gtoce.aspx ) x 2 GIGABYTE EX58-UD4 Windows 7 RC PSU 800W I've got the latest NVIDIA drivers and F5 BIOS update (*SLI update*). When I disable SLI and use the cards separately they are working just fine even in games. Any idea why this might happen?

• Server 2003 - Default installation of SharePoint throws javascript error 'undefined' is null or not an object

  I have been handed a server that has a fresh installation of small business server 2003. SharePoint has been installed, and it is a completely fresh copy (no changes made) I know for a fact that everything was paid for so this isn't some dodgy copy. When I try to click any option in any of the floating menu's in IE 8, the browser asks me if I want to debug .. Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object for example, I got to Projects - and click on the sample project, then click delete on the floating menu that pops up and the error appears. This is brand new, I cannot believe I am having this problem! Has anyone come across this, is it an old problem with easy fix? All windows updates installed - see no updates for sharepoint?
