  Hello. I have just installed Microsoft SQL Express from here: http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2005/en/us/express-down.aspx I need it because an example of some code I have uses it. My question is: How do I start using it? Which port it opens by default. All I have after installing it is this: I'm not asking for a full tutorial on how to admin MSSql, just a hint on what to do next. I have downloaded and tested in the past Oracle XE and test it with SQuirreL SQL client with out problems.

• 500 Error when using custom account for application pool in IIS 7

  I have a very simple site with only static files in IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 SP2. When I try to access any static file I get a 500 error. If I rename an html file to have an aspx extension it works fine. The site also works fine when using the built in identity for the application pool. The problem occurs when I switch to using a custom account for the application pool. I have tried using both local and domain accounts to run the application pool under. I have given full control to these accounts on the website directory and files. Turning on tracing reveals this error message: ModuleName: IIS Web Core Notification: 2 HttpStatus: 500 HttpReason: Internal Server Error HttpSubStatus: 0 ErrorCode: 2147943746 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification: AUTHENTICATE_REQUEST ErrorCode: Either a required impersonation level was not provided, or the provided impersonation level is invalid. (0x80070542) I have not had any luck with googling the error code.

Can I plug in 2x DVI + 1x HDMI and get a third display? Or am I going to have to buy a slew of Display Port Adapters? I know older video cards you could only have 2 active displays, but I heard that barrier was defeated with the Display-Port series video cards.

• How can I set Windows Server 2008 juntion points to Every Read Allow?

  We have apps running on Windows Server 2003 and now 2008 as well. Unfortunately some of our code relies on inspecting the Documents and Settings directory which no longer exists in Windows 2003. It looks like there are "Junction Points" set up for backwards compatibility - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb756982.aspx. But it seems like nothing I can do can get me access. I basically need to be able to call from a command line on both 2003 and 2008: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe Which translates in Windows 2008 to : C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe I've tried setting up my own "Documents and Settings" folder in 2008 but it won't let me as that seems to be reserved for these Juntion Points.

• How to safely backup MySQL using VSS-based backup solutions

  One of my clients is running MySQL on a Windows Server 2008 system. Their regular backups are performed using StorageCraft's ShadowCopy, which uses the VSS service to perform backups of open files. Some investigation indicates that MySQL is not entirely VSS-aware, and that the tables need to be locked prior to the shadow operation, then unlocked afterwards. There is a post at http://forum.storagecraft.com/Community/forums/p/548/2702.aspx which indicates the steps that need to be performed, however the user had some difficulty in performing them and no follow up solution was ever posted. Specifically, they succeeded in writing a batch file to lock the database, however once the batch file returns from MySQL it drops the connection and thus relinquishes the lock. I'm looking for a method that I can send the MySQL command FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK, then perform the backup, then send UNLOCK TABLES when the backup is complete. Alternatively, I can exclude the MySQL data storage folder from backup, and schedule a mysqldump backup into a folder that will then be backed up by VSS. Can I have some recommendations please?

  Using a VM I installed Windows 2008 Server x64 and as the image below shows, added the IIS Role full image and assigned all role features of IIS full image But if I have an ASP.NET (aspx) page that does (C#) Session["test-session"] = "A"; and read in other page I always get nothing! NOTE: I do have an entire ASP.NET web application, the example above is to be succinct and explicit on what is the problem I'm facing. Can anyone know what do I have to do to the Server, so I can use the Session variables? All help is greatly appreciated, Thank you

• Exchange 2010 domainprep messing up mailbox permissions on existing Exchange 2003 server

  So our environment is basically we have an Exchange 2003 server, and we're attempting to move to Exchange 2010 gradually, and move to new hardware while we're at it. So our first step was obviously to get Exchange 2010 installed on the new box. However, after running the domainprep steps listed in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224.aspx (including PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions) our mailbox permissions get messed up. Normally, we have an AD security group for Exchange Administrators that allows anyone in that group to view all folders inside any user's mailbox. However, now, this functionality is gone and our Exchange Admins can't access anyone's mailboxes. We'd like to get this functionality back if we could. Thanks

The email says: You are receiving this e-mail message because you are an administrator of the following SharePoint Web site, which has exceeded the warning level for storage: https://mysite.xxx.ac.uk/personal/xxx/. To see how much storage is being taken up by this site, go to the View site collection usage summary: https://mysite.xxx.ac.uk/personal/xxx/_layouts/Usage.aspx.   I have a hosted exchange 2010 and I am trying to setup the Send-As permission. • DNS and IPs - Does DNS send the IP back to the client?

  I ran across a site that talked about routing all cients requesting by IP to a "dead end." The clients accessing the site via ip it claimed were typically automated exploit tools and bots. Legitimate users type in the web address by it's domain question. With this context in mind, I don't really understand how DNS really works. I thought it worked by sending an IP back to a client for the requested DNS (like a phone book.) The client then uses the IP to access the site.   I'm installing a 2008 instance on a 2003 machine which is already running 2005. I need to set up domain groups for the security setup step: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179530.aspx On Windows Server 2003, specify domain groups for SQL Server services. All resource permissions are controlled by domain-level groups that include SQL Server service accounts as group members. The security admins had to make my account a domain admin - which they were hesitant to do. The account under which SQL Server Setup is running must have permissions to add accounts to the domain groups. Is there a specific security setting which would allow my account to add accounts to a group?

  We have an issue with User Profile Sync in SharePoint 2010 when the following happens: A new user is added to AD (ie DOMAIN\jdoh) The user is synched successfully to SharePoint Time passes The user's account name is changed in AD (ie because it was originally misspelled: DOMAIN\jdoe) The user is re-synced to SharePoint The behavior appears to be that the account name is not changed. In the above example, accountname will continue to be DOMAIN\jdoh in SharePoint, though other properties are synced correctly- I would assume by SID. This means that the users' my profile and mysite links still refer to the 'old' name (ie Person.aspx?accountname=Domain\jdoh). What steps should be taken to fix this in SharePoint when an account name is changed in AD?

• SQL Server Management Studio Connect to Server List Editing

  I'm using SQLServer Management Studio (2005) and I have a fairly lengthy list of servers in there, and I'd like to get rid of some of them that are no longer in use, without having to set them all up again. I know that the C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat can be deleted and this will remove ALL the entries, but is there anyway to just delete some of them? (Coding info) I looked at the file and it is a serialised blob from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionDlg.dll (Class Personalization) in the Appplication directory, but all the methods are private. So I can't just create an instance of this and then call Remove on the entries.   Hey, this morning after I went to college a virus infected my pc without any user interaction at my end. When I came home my computer was completely frozen and infected with lots of trojans. I have not typed anything important since returning so keys cannot be logged. However I want to know exactly when my computer crashed from the time of infection to see what could potentially be done remotely by a hacker. The virus my pc was diagonosed with was "fakespypro" http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Win32%2fFakeSpypro on a fully updated windows 7 installation with firewall enabled. My computer was connected to an internal dorm room network, so probably that has had to do something with it. • '0' inserted when cross-referencing numbered equations in MSWord 2007

  I am inserting numbered equations using tables and multi-level lists as described in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_office_word/archive/2006/10/20/equation-numbering.aspx I want to cross-reference the equations in my text. To do so I go to Insert-Cross reference and among the "Numbered Items" I pick the equation I wish to refer to. The problem is that if I pick the "Insert reference to" as "Paragraph number" a zero is always inserted into my text. The surprising thing is that the hyperlink in the cross-reference points to the correct equation. Also if I choose "Insert reference to" as "Page number" then the correct page numbers are inserted and they are correctly updated too.

• Bad Resolution. Running Three screens at the same time

  Hi I am currently using three screens at the same time with my ATI 5770 & an active displayport converter. The thing is that the third screen ( the one that is using the active displayport converter ) is showing terrible resolution compared to my other two screens. ( Samsung syncmaster p23 ) two of my screens got a max resolution of 1920* 1090, meanwhile the third on is only capable of 1600 * 1200. Do any of u guys got any solution to this problem? • MSExchangeMailSubmission service is not listed or running; sent mail not working

  I am running a new Exchange 2007 SP1 system. I moved the mailboxes from the old Exchange 2003 server, and incoming mail is working. But outgoing mail is not working at all; even inside my domain. Lots of debugging and searching lead me to believe that the problem is that the "Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission Service" (AKA MSExchangeMailSubmission) is not running. In fact, it's not even listed in the Services list. This document (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998342.aspx) says that this service is installed by the Mailbox server role. My server is running the Mailbox role, as well as the Hub Transport and Client Access roles. How do I get this service to show up in the list, so that I can start it up? Thanks.

  I would like to reverse proxy my Jira installation on a Windows server 2008 machine. Jira is running under: http://jira.domain.com:8080/ and is accessible as such. The machine also runs IIS for hosting several ASP.NET websites. I now have a “Web farm” node in my IIS instance but I’ve got no idea on how to proceed. I tried adding some rules but this made the rest of my IIS websites stop responding. Is there a simple way to say: 1. Forward http://jira.domain.com to http://localhost:8080 2. Ignore other domains and route them as usual Any help is greatly appreciated!
