    Hello. This is really noob question. There is set of vim commands : command1 : command2 etc., which I would neet to type in in a raw quite often. How to I make it automatic? It is simple regexp replace command set, however I cannot script those in sed, since it involves non-latin locales and for some reason vim handles non-latin regexps correctly, while sed not.

    I'm using Virtualmin, and I have a command set up under Virtualmin Module Config Actions Upon Server and user creation Command to run after making changes to a server This command is designed to perform a few additional steps after the account is set up. However, the action is called every time the account is modified, and also gets called when the account is deleted. The actions it performs should only be done when the account is first created. How can my custom command know which action is being performed? Is there an environment variable which determines if the action is creation, alteration, or deletion?

    I'm trying to setup a bash process for deploying my django project onto a linux server. Through cygwin, I'm running a script that is calling scp to copy my files over. Is there a similar command to delete *.pyc files. As of now, I've only been able to accomplish this locally after using ssh with: find . -name "*.pyc" -exec rm -rf {} \; I'm looking for some kind of command to call remotely that would be equivalent.

  • Same command on multiple servers

    Hello everyone. I'm just wondering if there is any fellow sysadmin with the need to execute one command on multiple servers. If so, what technique are you using? I have grown tired to ssh-ing to 3-5 servers and executing the same thing over and over again, so I'm thinking to make my life easier. Also, I think I should create keys so I don't have to enter passwords anymore (though I'm using root). After 2 years of doing this, I kind of developed a laziness. I googled it up, I know about cssh, pssh, tentakel (this one seems cool), and the more pro-genre - Puppet (of which I just heard of, didn't invest the time to read the docs). BTW, I'm using XP+putty, so if there is any putty-cool-thingy available, that's welcome too. If not, I can always ssh to one server and from there start my rest-of-the-servers-conquest :) *evil* Hit me up. Thanks.

  • Monitor status while using VNC

    So after connecting to a vnc server via vnc viewer to my desktop (remotely), Is it possible to know whether the monitor connected to the CPU is switched ON or not. Simply put, from command prompt how do you know whether monitor is ON/OFF from command line. Here, Basically I am bit worried about privacy as my monitor can be viewed by anyone while accessed remotely. Any solution? Obviously there is a option to switch off the monitor while starting the vnc server at remote side but I am looking for a better solution to control monitor(possible??) remotely. Thanks!

I have never heard of this file and my first thought was that it was a clever way of hiding a program, possibly a trojan. However it's present on all my CentOS servers and seems to have no manual entry. I can hazard a guess as to what it is but I was looking for a more authoritative answer...

  • How do I cut and paste commands from your blog?

    At the recent ODTUG  Kscope 12 conference several people told me that they really enjoyed our blog on the Optimizer but were frustrated because they couldn’t cut and paste the commands used in the blog posts straight into their environment. Typically I use screen shots in the blog posts to make the commands clear but it does mean that it is impossible to cut and paste the commands into your environment. In order to get around this I have created a downloadable .sql script for each of our blog posts. You should now see the sentence “You can get a copy of the script I used to generate this post here”, appearing at the bottom of each blog post. Clicking on the link will open the .sql script that contains all of the commands used in the post. You can either save the entire script or just cut and paste the particular command you are interested in! I have added scripts for all of this year’s blog posts and am slowly making my way through our old posts until we have a script for everything we have posted to date.   • Multiple WPFPreviewHandlers in One Window? Can it be done?

    Here is the scenario. I am building a part of my desktop app up and I have a need to create a preview handler. I found plenty of examples on the web of a WPF Preview handler, but I wanted to go one step more than just that. Lets say we have multiple documents and I wished to compare them. So the ideal scenario would be able to see documents side by side in a collection. Sort of how BING does their image search. But the more documents I select in a list box, the more documents I can compare all at once. The second Ideal solution would be a tabbed interface. One tab for each document. Sort of like how internet browsers are doing it now. Understand? So here is the question that I have been struggling with. I can get one preview to work in a window, but can’t get the second one to show up. This is all WPF code so maybe im doing something wrong, but can you preview more than one document in a window at a time? My thought is no, because the previewhandler needs a window handler to lock onto. I would love small code sample since COM and handlers aren’t my sort of thing, but I can manage if you are just able to point me down the right track.   • Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2, built-in font smoothing

    I've just installed Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 onto my Windows XP to evaluate it and check whether it meets my preferences the way it did before. Okay, I've temporary defeated an urgent bug with a strange workaround (I could not open any file from the Solution Explorer), and it left bad memories to me. But however, it's okay. The first thing I've seen just opening the code editor was ClearType font rendering. Wow, so unexpectedly. I must note that I do not use standard Windows rendering techniques, but I still prefer GDI++, a font renderer developed by Japanese developers. (GDI++ allows to render the fonts in Mac/Win-Safari style over entire Windows.) Personally for me, GDI++ reaches the great font-rendering results allowing me to use the Dejavu Sans Mono font with really nice smoothing in Visual Studio 2008 (VS 2005 too, though VS 2005 crashes in this case). But GDI++ cannot affect Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 text editor - it uses ClearType (right?), and it does not care about the system font smoothing settings. It could be an editor based on WPF, right? So as far as I can see, I can't use GDI++ anymore because it uses Windows GDI(+) but no WPF? So I've got several questions: Is it possible to disable VS 2010 b2 built-in ClearType or override it with another font smoother? Is it possible to install a Safari-like font renderer for Visual Studio 2010 [betas]? Thanks a lot.

    Has the menu & toolbar customization functionality in VS2010 been reduced? I can't seem to be able to select an icon for an added command, nor set it to be icon-only. Previous versions of Visual Studio supported this functionality and even allowed the creation/editing of custom icons. Is this something that has suffered as a result of the move to the WPF-authored UI or am I missing something?

    I am developing a database API for a project, with commands for getting data from the database. For example, I have one gib table, so the command for that is: getgib name alias limit fields If the user pass their name: getgib rahul Then it will return all gib data whose name is like rahul. If an alias is given then it will return all the gib owned by the user whose alias (userid) was given. I want to design the commands: limit: to limit the record in query, fields: extra fields I want to add in the select query. So now the commands are set, but: I want the gibs by the gibid, so how to make this or any suggestion to improve my command is welcome. If the user doesn't want to specify the name, and he wants only the gibs by providing alias, then what separator should I use instead of name?

  • processing gamestate with a window of commands across time?

    I have clients sending client updates at a 100ms intervals. i pool the command inputs and create a client command frame. the commands come into the server in these windows and i tag them across time as they come in. when i do a server tick i intend to process this list of commands i.e. [ {command:'duck',timestamp:350,player:'a'}, {command:'shoot',timestamp:395,player:'b'}, {command:'move', timestamp:410,player:'c'} {command:'cover',timestamp:420,player:'a'} ] how would i efficiently update the gamestate based on this list? the two solutions i see are 1) simulate time via direct equation to figure out how far everyone would move or change as if the real gameupdate was ticking on the worldtick..but then unforseen events that would normally trigger during real update would not get triggered such as powerups or collissions 2) prepare to run the worldupdate multiple times and figure out which commands get sent to which worldupdate. this seems better but a little more costly is there a canonical way to do this?

    As far as I can tell the only way to convert from BitmapSource to Bitmap is through unsafe code... Like this (from Lesters WPF blog): myBitmapSource.CopyPixels(bits, stride, 0); unsafe { fixed (byte* pBits = bits) { IntPtr ptr = new IntPtr(pBits); System.Drawing.Bitmap bitmap = new System.Drawing.Bitmap( width, height, stride, System.Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format32bppPArgb,ptr); return bitmap; } } To do the reverse: System.Windows.Media.Imaging.BitmapSource bitmapSource = System.Windows.Interop.Imaging.CreateBitmapSourceFromHBitmap( bitmap.GetHbitmap(), IntPtr.Zero, Int32Rect.Empty, System.Windows.Media.Imaging.BitmapSizeOptions.FromEmptyOptions()); Is there an easier way in the framework? And what is the reason it isn't in there (if it's not)? I would think it's fairly usable. The reason I need it is because I use AForge to do certain image operations in an WPF app. WPF wants to show BitmapSource/ImageSource but AForge works on Bitmaps.

  • What is the equivalent of OnRender in Silverlight?

    I'm working on porting an app from WPF to Silverlight. The app uses custom types derived from FrameworkElement (in WPF) to describe shapes, and text to be rendered on a Canvas. The WPF app root node overrides OnRender() to iterate through a collection of 'child' nodes, calling Render on each child node to build the Visual Tree. Silverlight doesn't expose OnRender, but there are hints that the same effect can be achieved using ControlTemplate. Is this the way to go, and are there any good examples of using this method available? I've done some googling (binging?) and found nothing really conclusive.

  • Good examples of MVVM Template

    I am currently working with the Microsoft MVVM template and find the lack of detailed examples frustrating. The included ContactBook example shows very little Command handling and the only other example I've found is from an MSDN Magazine article where the concepts are similar but uses a slightly different approach and still lack in any complexity. Are there any decent MVVM examples that at least show basic CRUD operations and dialog/content switching?
