  • Objected oriented approach to structure inside structure

    - by RishiD
    This is for C++ but should apply to any OO language. Trying to figure out the correct object oriented apporach to do the following (this is what I do in C). struct Container { enum type; union { TypeA a; TypeB b; }; } The type field determines if it TypeA or TypeB object. I am using this to handle responses coming back from a connection, they get parsed and get put into this structure and then based on the message type the appropriate fields get filled in. e.g. struct Container parseResponse(bufferIn, bufferLength); Is there an OO approach for doing this?

  • Different ways of solving problems in code.

    - by Erin
    I now program in C# for a living but before that I programmed in python for 5 years. I have found that I write C# very differently than most examples I see on the web. Rather then writing things like: foreach (string bar in foo) { //bar has something doen to it here } I write code that looks like this. foo.ForEach( c => c.someActionhere() ) Or var result = foo.Select( c => { //Some code here to transform the item. }).ToList(); I think my using code like above came from my love of map and reduce in python - while not exactly the same thing, the concepts are close. Now it's time for my question. What concepts do you take and move with you from language to language; that allow you to solve a problem in a way that is not the normal accepted solution in that language?

  • MVC Persist Collection ViewModel (Update, Delete, Insert)

    - by Riccardo Bassilichi
    In order to create a more elegant solution I'm curios to know your suggestion about a solution to persist a collection. I've a collection stored on DB. This collection go to a webpage in a viewmodel. When the go back from the webpage to the controller I need to persist the modified collection to the same DB. The simple solution is to delete the stored collection and recreate all rows. I need a more elegant solution to mix the collections and delete not present record, update similar records ad insert new rows. this is my Models and ViewModels. public class CustomerModel { public virtual string Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<PreferredAirportModel> PreferedAirports { get; set; } } public class AirportModel { public virtual string Id { get; set; } public virtual string AirportName { get; set; } } public class PreferredAirportModel { public virtual AirportModel Airport { get; set; } public virtual int CheckInMinutes { get; set; } } // ViewModels public class CustomerViewModel { [Required] public virtual string Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<PreferredAirporViewtModel> PreferedAirports { get; set; } } public class PreferredAirporViewtModel { [Required] public virtual string AirportId { get; set; } [Required] public virtual int CheckInMinutes { get; set; } } And this is the controller with not elegant solution. public class CustomerController { public ActionResult Save(string id, CustomerViewModel viewModel) { var session = SessionFactory.CurrentSession; var customer = session.Query<CustomerModel>().SingleOrDefault(el => el.Id == id); customer.Name = viewModel.Name; // How cai I Merge collections handling delete, update and inserts ? var modifiedPreferedAirports = new List<PreferredAirportModel>(); var modifiedPreferedAirportsVm = new List<PreferredAirporViewtModel>(); // Update every common Airport foreach (var airport in viewModel.PreferedAirports) { foreach (var custPa in customer.PreferedAirports) { if (custPa.Airport.Id == airport.AirportId) { modifiedPreferedAirports.Add(custPa); modifiedPreferedAirportsVm.Add(airport); custPa.CheckInMinutes = airport.CheckInMinutes; } } } // Remove common airports from ViewModel modifiedPreferedAirportsVm.ForEach(el => viewModel.PreferedAirports.Remove(el)); // Remove deleted airports from model var toDelete = customer.PreferedAirports.Except(modifiedPreferedAirports); toDelete.ForEach(el => customer.PreferedAirports.Remove(el)); // Add new Airports var toAdd = viewModel.PreferedAirports.Select(el => new PreferredAirportModel { Airport = session.Query<AirportModel>(). SingleOrDefault(a => a.Id == el.AirportId), CheckInMinutes = el.CheckInMinutes }); toAdd.ForEach(el => customer.PreferedAirports.Add(el)); session.Save(customer); return View(); } } My environment is ASP.NET MVC 4, nHibernate, Automapper, SQL Server. I would like to download a few videos from youtube and convert them to 3gp so that I can play them on my phone. I would like to know how this can be done using ffmpeg. I tried the various results on the net only to get the following errors. I used: ffmpeg -i dil.mp4 -sameq -ab 64k -ar 44100 dilenada.3gp I got: Unsupported codec for output stream #0.1 Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 2000.00 (2000/1) - 29.92 (359/12) I used: ffmpeg -y -i dil.mp4 -r 20 -s 352x288 -b 400k -acodec libfaac -ac 1 -ar 2000 -ab 24k dilenada.3gp I got: Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 2000.00 (2000/1) -> 29.92 (359/12) Unknown encoder 'libfaac' What am I doing wrong?

  • How to attach two XNA models together?

    - by jeangil
    I go back on unsolved question I asked about attaching two models together, could you give me some help on this ? For example, If I want to attach together Model1 (= Main model) & Model2 ? I have to get the transformation matrix of Model1 and after get the Bone index on Model1 where I want to attach Model2 and then apply some transformation to attach Model2 to Model1 I wrote some code below about this, but It does not work at all !! (6th line of my code seems to be wrong !?) Model1TransfoMatrix=New Matrix[Model1.Bones.Count]; Index=Model1.bone[x].Index; foreach (ModelMesh mesh in Model2.Meshes) { foreach(BasicEffect effect in mesh.effects) { matrix model2Transform = Matrix.CreateScale(0.1.0f)*Matrix.CreateFromYawPitchRoll(x,y,z); effect.World= model2Transform *Model1TransfoMatrix[Index]; effect.view = camera.View; effect.Projection= camera.Projection; } mesh.draw(); }

  • node.js callback getting unexpected value for variable

    - by defrex
    I have a for loop, and inside it a variable is assigned with var. Also inside the loop a method is called which requires a callback. Inside the callback function I'm using the variable from the loop. I would expect that it's value, inside the callback function, would be the same as it was outside the callback during that iteration of the loop. However, it always seems to be the value from the last iteration of the loop. Am I misunderstanding scope in JavaScript, or is there something else wrong? The program in question here is a node.js app that will monitor a working directory for changes and restart the server when it finds one. I'll include all of the code for the curious, but the important bit is the parse_file_list function. var posix = require('posix'); var sys = require('sys'); var server; var child_js_file = process.ARGV[2]; var current_dir = __filename.split('/'); current_dir = current_dir.slice(0, current_dir.length-1).join('/'); var start_server = function(){ server = process.createChildProcess('node', [child_js_file]); server.addListener("output", function(data){sys.puts(data);}); }; var restart_server = function(){ sys.puts('change discovered, restarting server'); server.close(); start_server(); }; var parse_file_list = function(dir, files){ for (var i=0;i<files.length;i++){ var file = dir+'/'+files[i]; sys.puts('file assigned: '+file); posix.stat(file).addCallback(function(stats){ sys.puts('stats returned: '+file); if (stats.isDirectory()) posix.readdir(file).addCallback(function(files){ parse_file_list(file, files); }); else if (stats.isFile()) process.watchFile(file, restart_server); }); } }; posix.readdir(current_dir).addCallback(function(files){ parse_file_list(current_dir, files); }); start_server(); The output from this is: file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/ejs.js file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/templates file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/web file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/server.js file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/settings.js file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/apps file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/dev_server.js file assigned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js stats returned: /home/defrex/code/node/main_urls.js For those from the future: node.devserver.js

  • Allow any arguments for a given command with sudo

    - by Mark L
    I have the following sudo config entry which I added via sudo visudo: mark ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/lxc-ls* I can run lxc-ls with my user fine but I can't append any parameters without it demanding I prefix the command with sudo. $ whoami mark $ lxc-ls test-container $ lxc-ls --fancy lxc-ls: error: You must be root to access advanced container properties. Try running: sudo /usr/bin/lxc-ls Any idea how I can edit via sudo visudo to allow for any argument after the command? I don't want to prefix the command with sudo as I'm using a python library to execute the command and it's being funny about sudo prefixes.

  • How to set the initial component focus

For this, specify the id property value of the component that you want to put the initial focus on. Identifiers are relative to the component, and must account for NamingContainers. You can use a single colon to start the search from the root, or multiple colons to move up through the NamingContainers - "::" will pop out of the component's naming container and begin the search from there, ":::" will pop out of two naming containers and begin the search from there. Alternatively you can add the naming container IDs as a prefix to the component Id, e.g. nc1:nc2:comp1. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/apirefs.1111/e12419/tagdoc/af_document.html To set the initial focus to a component located in a page fragment that is exposed through an ADF region, keep in mind that ADF Faces regions - af:region - is a naming container too. To address an input text field with the id "it1" in an ADF region exposed by an af:region tag with the id r1, you use the following reference in af:document: <af:document id="d1" initialFocusId="r1:0:it1"> Note the "0" index in the client Id. Also, make sure the input text component has its clientComponent property set to true as otherwise no client component exist to put focus on.

  • Juju LXC configuration

    - by Preethi
    I've looked at this post (http://askubuntu.com/questions/65359/how-do-i-configure-juju-for-local-usage) for setting up juju on a local environment with lxc. However, is there a way to use juju with lxc in a non-local environment? I am looking at a scenario where lxc containers are deployed on multiple nodes. I.e., lets say I have virtual machines m1 and m2 with wordpress deployed on a container in m1 and mysql deployed on a container in m2. Is there a way to orchestrate these deployments with juju?

  • LINQ and ArcObjects

    - by Marko Apfel
    Motivation LINQ (language integrated query) is a component of the Microsoft. NET Framework since version 3.5. It allows a SQL-like query to various data sources such as SQL, XML etc. Like SQL also LINQ to SQL provides a declarative notation of problem solving – i.e. you don’t need describe in detail how a task could be solved, you describe what to be solved at all. This frees the developer from error-prone iterator constructs. Ideally, of course, would be to access features with this way. Then this construct is conceivable: var largeFeatures = from feature in features where (feature.GetValue("SHAPE_Area").ToDouble() > 3000) select feature; or its equivalent as a lambda expression: var largeFeatures = features.Where(feature => (feature.GetValue("SHAPE_Area").ToDouble() > 3000)); This requires an appropriate provider, which manages the corresponding iterator logic. This is easier than you might think at first sight - you have to deliver only the desired entities as IEnumerable<IFeature>. LINQ automatically establishes a state machine in the background, whose execution is delayed (deferred execution) - when you are really request entities (foreach, Count (), ToList (), ..) an instantiation processing takes place, although it was already created at a completely different place. Especially in multiple iteration through entities in the first debuggings you are rubbing your eyes when the execution pointer jumps magically back in the iterator logic. Realization A very concise logic for constructing IEnumerable<IFeature> can be achieved by running through a IFeatureCursor. You return each feature via yield. For an easier usage I have put the logic in an extension method Getfeatures() for IFeatureClass: public static IEnumerable<IFeature> GetFeatures(this IFeatureClass featureClass, IQueryFilter queryFilter, RecyclingPolicy policy) { IFeatureCursor featureCursor = featureClass.Search(queryFilter, RecyclingPolicy.Recycle == policy); IFeature feature; while (null != (feature = featureCursor.NextFeature())) { yield return feature; } //this is skipped in unit tests with cursor-mock if (Marshal.IsComObject(featureCursor)) { Marshal.ReleaseComObject(featureCursor); } } So you can now easily generate the IEnumerable<IFeature>: IEnumerable<IFeature> features = _featureClass.GetFeatures(RecyclingPolicy.DoNotRecycle); You have to be careful with the recycling cursor. After a delayed execution in the same context it is not a good idea to re-iterated on the features. In this case only the content of the last (recycled) features is provided and all the features are the same in the second set. Therefore, this expression would be critical: largeFeatures.ToList(). ForEach(feature => Debug.WriteLine(feature.OID)); because ToList() iterates once through the list and so the the cursor was once moved through the features. So the extension method ForEach() always delivers the same feature. In such situations, you must not use a recycling cursor. Repeated executions of ForEach() is not a problem, because for every time the state machine is re-instantiated and thus the cursor runs again - that's the magic already mentioned above. Perspective Now you can also go one step further and realize your own implementation for the interface IEnumerable<IFeature>. This requires that only the method and property to access the enumerator have to be programmed. In the enumerator himself in the Reset() method you organize the re-executing of the search. This could be archived with an appropriate delegate in the constructor: new FeatureEnumerator<IFeatureclass>(_featureClass, featureClass => featureClass.Search(_filter, isRecyclingCursor)); which is called in Reset(): public void Reset() { _featureCursor = _resetCursor(_t); } In this manner, enumerators for completely different scenarios could be implemented, which are used on the client side completely identical like described above. Thus cursors, selection sets, etc. merge into a single matter and the reusability of code is increasing immensely. On top of that in automated unit tests an IEnumerable could be mocked very easily - a major step towards better software quality. Conclusion Nevertheless, caution should be exercised with these constructs in performance-relevant queries. Because of managing a state machine in the background, a lot of overhead is created. The processing costs additional time - about 20 to 100 percent. In addition, working without a recycling cursor is fast a performance gap. However declarative LINQ code is much more elegant, flawless and easy to maintain than manually iterating, compare and establish a list of results. The code size is reduced according to experience an average of 75 to 90 percent! So I like to wait a few milliseconds longer. As so often it has to be balanced between maintainability and performance - which for me is gaining in priority maintainability. In times of multi-core processors, the processing time of most business processes is anyway not dominated by code execution but by waiting for user input. Demo source code The source code for this prototype with several unit tests, you can download here: https://github.com/esride-apf/Linq2ArcObjects. .

  • How to do MVC the right way

    - by Ieyasu Sawada
    I've been doing MVC for a few months now using the CodeIgniter framework in PHP but I still don't know if I'm really doing things right. What I currently do is: Model - this is where I put database queries (select, insert, update, delete). Here's a sample from one of the models that I have: function register_user($user_login, $user_profile, $department, $role) { $department_id = $this->get_department_id($department); $role_id = $this->get_role_id($role); array_push($user_login, $department_id, $role_id); $this->db->query("INSERT INTO tbl_users SET username=?, hashed_password=?, salt=?, department_id=?, role_id=?", $user_login); $user_id = $this->db->insert_id(); array_push($user_profile, $user_id); $this->db->query(" INSERT INTO tbl_userprofile SET firstname=?, midname=?, lastname=?, user_id=? ", $user_profile); } Controller - talks to the model, calls up the methods in the model which queries the database, supplies the data which the views will display(success alerts, error alerts, data from database), inherits a parent controller which checks if user is logged in. Here's a sample: function create_user(){ $this->load->helper('encryption/Bcrypt'); $bcrypt = new Bcrypt(15); $user_data = array( 'username' => 'Username', 'firstname' => 'Firstname', 'middlename' => 'Middlename', 'lastname' => 'Lastname', 'password' => 'Password', 'department' => 'Department', 'role' => 'Role' ); foreach ($user_data as $key => $value) { $this->form_validation->set_rules($key, $value, 'required|trim'); } if ($this->form_validation->run() == FALSE) { $departments = $this->user_model->list_departments(); $it_roles = $this->user_model->list_roles(1); $tc_roles = $this->user_model->list_roles(2); $assessor_roles = $this->user_model->list_roles(3); $data['data'] = array('departments' => $departments, 'it_roles' => $it_roles, 'tc_roles' => $tc_roles, 'assessor_roles' => $assessor_roles); $data['content'] = 'admin/create_user'; parent::error_alert(); $this->load->view($this->_at, $data); } else { $username = $this->input->post('username'); $salt = $bcrypt->getSalt(); $hashed_password = $bcrypt->hash($this->input->post('password'), $salt); $fname = $this->input->post('firstname'); $mname = $this->input->post('middlename'); $lname = $this->input->post('lastname'); $department = $this->input->post('department'); $role = $this->input->post('role'); $user_login = array($username, $hashed_password, $salt); $user_profile = array($fname, $mname, $lname); $this->user_model->register_user($user_login, $user_profile, $department, $role); $data['content'] = 'admin/view_user'; parent::success_alert(4, 'User Sucessfully Registered!', 'You may now login using your account'); $data['data'] = array('username' => $username, 'fname' => $fname, 'mname' => $mname, 'lname' => $lname, 'department' => $department, 'role' => $role); $this->load->view($this->_at, $data); } } Views - this is where I put html, css, and JavaScript code (form validation code for the current form, looping through the data supplied by controller, a few if statements to hide and show things depending on the data supplied by the controller). <!--User registration form--> <form class="well min-form" method="post"> <div class="form-heading"> <h3>User Registration</h3> </div> <label for="username">Username</label> <input type="text" id="username" name="username" class="span3" autofocus> <label for="password">Password</label> <input type="password" id="password" name="password" class="span3"> <label for="firstname">First name</label> <input type="text" id="firstname" name="firstname" class="span3"> <label for="middlename">Middle name</label> <input type="text" id="middlename" name="middlename" class="span3"> <label for="lastname">Last name</label> <input type="text" id="lastname" name="lastname" class="span3"> <label for="department">Department</label> <input type="text" id="department" name="department" class="span3" list="list_departments"> <datalist id="list_departments"> <?php foreach ($data['departments'] as $row) { ?> <option data-id="<?php echo $row['department_id']; }); $('#list_assessor option').each(function(i){ roles[roles.length + 1] = $(this).val(); }); $('#department').blur(function(){ var department = $.trim($(this).val()); $('#role').attr('list', 'list_' + department); }); var password = new LiveValidation('password'); password.add(Validate.Presence); password.add(Validate.Length, {minimum: 10}); $('input[type=text]').each(function(i){ var field_id = $(this).attr('id'); var field = new LiveValidation(field_id); field.add(Validate.Presence); if(field_id == 'department'){ field.add(Validate.Inclusion, {within : departments}); } else if(field_id == 'role'){ field.add(Validate.Inclusion, {within : roles}) } }); </script> The codes above are actually code from the application that I'm currently working on. I'm working on it alone so I don't really have someone to review my code for me and point out the wrong things in it so I'm posting it here in hopes that someone could point out the wrong things that I've done in here. I'm also looking for some guidelines in writing MVC code like what are the things that should be and shouldn't be included in views, models and controllers. How else can I improve the current code that I have right now. I've written some really terrible code before(duplication of logic, etc.) that's why I want to improve my code so that I can easily maintain it in the future. Thanks!

  • SpriteBatch.Begin() making my model not render correctly

    - by manning18
    I was trying to output some debug information using DrawString when I noticed my model suddenly was being rendered like it was inside-out (like the culling had been disabled or something) and the texture maps weren't applied I commented out the DrawString method until I only had SpriteBatch.Begin() and .End() and that was enough to cause the model rendering corruption - when I commented those calls out the model rendered correctly What could this be a symptom of? I've stripped it down to the barest of code to isolate the problem and this is what I noticed. Draw code below (as stripped down as possible) GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.LightGray); foreach (ModelMesh mesh in TIEAdvanced.Meshes) { foreach (Effect effect in mesh.Effects) { if (effect is BasicEffect) ((BasicEffect)effect).EnableDefaultLighting(); effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); } } spriteBatch.Begin(); spriteBatch.DrawString(spriteFont, "Camera Position: " + cameraPosition.ToString(), new Vector2(10, 10), Color.Blue); spriteBatch.End(); GraphicsDevice.DepthStencilState = DepthStencilState.Default; TIEAdvanced.Draw(Matrix.CreateScale(0.025f), viewMatrix, projectionMatrix);

  • Oracle Brings Java to iOS Devices (and Android too)

    - by Shay Shmeltzer
    Java developer, did you ever wish that you can take your Java skills and apply them to building applications for iOS mobile devices? Well, now you can! With the new Oracle ADF Mobile solution, Oracle has created a unique technology that allows developers to use the Java language and develop applications that install and run on both iOS and Android mobile devices. The solution is based on a thin native container that installs as part of your application. The container is able to run the same application you develop unchanged on both Android and iOS devices. One part of the container is a headless lightweight JVM based on the Java ME CDC technology. This allows the execution of Java code on your mobile device. Java is used for building business logic, accessing local SQLite encrypted database, and invoking and interacting with remote services. Java concept on the UI too To further help transition Java developers to mobile developers, ADF Mobile borrows familiar concepts from the world of JSF to make the UI development experience simpler. The user interface layer of Oracle ADF Mobile is rendered with HTML5 which delivers native user experience on the devices, including animations and gesture support. Using a set of rich components, developers can create mobile pages without needing to write low level HTML5 and JavaScript code. The components cover everything from simple controls such as text fields, date pickers, buttons and links, to advanced data visualization components such as graphs, gauges and maps, and including unique mobile UI patterns such as lists, and toggle selectors. Want to see the components in action? Access this demo instance from your mobile device. Need to further customize the look and feel? You can use CSS3 to achieve this. A controller layer - similar in functionality to the JSF controller - allows developer to simplify the way they build navigation between pages. The logic behind the pages is written in managed beans with various scopes – again similar to the JSF approach. Need to interact with device features like camera, SMS, Contacts etc? Oracle conveniently packaged access to these services in a set of services that you can just drag and drop into your pages as buttons and links, or code into your managed beans Java calls to activate. Underneath the covers this layer is implemented using the open source phonegap solution. With the new Oracle ADF Mobile solution, transferring your Java skills into the Mobile world has become much easier. Check out this development experience demo. And then go and download JDeveloper and the ADF Mobile extension and try it out on your own. For more on ADF Mobile, see the ADF Mobile OTN page.

  • Why isn't garbage collection being activated in my code? [migrated]

    - by Netmoon
    I have a foreach statement in my code, where each iteration calculates huge amounts of data and goes to the next iteration. I run this code, but when I read the log, I see there's a memory leak error. PHP.net says when this happens, using gc_enabled() is a good way to handle this. I've added these lines to last line of the foreach block: echo "Check GC enabled : " . gc_enabled(); echo "Number of affected cycles : " . gc_collect_cycles(); And this is the output: Check GC enabled : 1 Number of affected cycles : 0 Why do cycles exist, but the affected cycles is 0?

  • Weird appearance for a 3D XNA ground

    - by Belos
    I wanted to add a ground so I can know the position of a helicopter in the world. But the ground appeared in a weird way: http://i.stack.imgur.com/yTSuW.jpg The ground had the following texture: http://i.stack.imgur.com/pdpxB.png EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to post the code: public class ImportModel { public Vector3 Position { get; set; } public Vector3 Rotation { get; set; } public Vector3 Scale { get; set; } Model Model; Matrix[] modeltransforms; GraphicsDevice GraphicDevice; ContentManager Content; BoundingSphere sphere; bool boundingimplemented = false; public ImportModel(string model, GraphicsDevice gd, ContentManager cm, Vector3 position, Vector3 rot, Vector3 sca) { GraphicDevice = gd; Content = cm; Position = position; Rotation = rot; Scale = sca; Model = Content.Load<Model>(model); modeltransforms = new Matrix[Model.Bones.Count]; Model.CopyAbsoluteBoneTransformsTo(modeltransforms); } public void Draw(Camera camera) { Matrix baseworld = Matrix.CreateScale(Scale) * Matrix.CreateFromYawPitchRoll(Rotation.Y, Rotation.X, Rotation.Z) * Matrix.CreateTranslation(Position); foreach (ModelMesh mesh in Model.Meshes) { Matrix localworld = modeltransforms[mesh.ParentBone.Index] * baseworld; foreach (ModelMeshPart meshpart in mesh.MeshParts) { BasicEffect effect = (BasicEffect)meshpart.Effect; effect.World = localworld; effect.View = camera.View; effect.Projection = camera.Projection; effect.EnableDefaultLighting(); } mesh.Draw(); } } public BoundingSphere BoundingSphere { get { if (!boundingimplemented) { foreach (ModelMesh mesh in Model.Meshes) { BoundingSphere transformed = mesh.BoundingSphere.Transform( modeltransforms[mesh.ParentBone.Index]); sphere = BoundingSphere.CreateMerged(sphere, transformed); } Matrix worldTransform = Matrix.CreateScale(Scale) * Matrix.CreateTranslation(Position); BoundingSphere transforme = sphere; transforme = transforme.Transform(worldTransform); return transforme; } else { Matrix worldTransform = Matrix.CreateScale(Scale) * Matrix.CreateTranslation(Position); BoundingSphere transformed = sphere; transformed = transformed.Transform(worldTransform); return transformed; } } } } Then I call the class from the Game1 class: ImportModel ground = new ImportModel("ground", GraphicsDevice, Content, Vector3.Zero, Vector3.Zero, new Vector3(20f)); EDIT2:This is how the scene looks from top: i.stack.imgur.com/Hs983.jpg

  • What's a clean way to have the server return a JavaScript function which would then be invoked?

    - by Khnle
    My application is architected as a host of plug-ins that have not yet been written. There's a long reason for this, but with each new year, the business logic will be different and we don't know what it will be like (Think of TurboTax if that helps). The plug-ins consist of both server and client components. The server components deals with business logic and persisting the data into database tables which will be created at a later time as well. The JavaScript manipulates the DOM for the browsers to render afterward. Each plugin lives in a separate assembly, so that they won't disturb the main application, i.e., we don't want to recompile the main application. Long story short, I am looking for a way to return JavaScript functions to the client from an Ajax get request, and execute these JavaScript functions (which are just returned). Invoking a function in Javascript is easy. The hard part is how to organize or structure so that I won't have to deal with maintenance problem. So concat using StringBuilder to end up with JavaScript code as a result of calling toString() from the string builder object is out of the question. I want to have no difference between writing JavaScript codes normally and writing Javascript codes for this dynamic purpose. An alternative is to manipulate the DOM on the server side, but I doubt that it would be as elegantly as using jQuery on the client side. I am open for a C# library that supports chainable calls like jQuery that also manipulates the DOM too. Do you have any idea or is it too much to ask or are you too confused? Edit1: The point is to avoid recompiling, hence the plug-ins architecture. In some other parts of the program, I already use the concept of dynamically loading Javascript files. That works fine. What I am looking here is somewhere in the middle of the program when an Ajax request is sent to the server. Edit 2: To illustrate my question: Normally, you would see the following code. An Ajax request is sent to the server, a JSON result is returned to the client which then uses jQuery to manipulate the DOM (creating tag and adding to the container in this case). $.ajax({ type: 'get', url: someUrl, data: {'': ''}, success: function(data) { var ul = $('<ul>').appendTo(container); var decoded = $.parseJSON(data); $.each(decoded, function(i, e) { var li = $('<li>').text(e.FIELD1 + ',' + e.FIELD2 + ',' + e.FIELD3); ul.append(li); }); } }); The above is extremely simple. But next year, what the server returns is totally different and how the data to be rendered would also be different. In a way, this is what I want: var container = $('#some-existing-element-on-the-page'); $.ajax({ type: 'get', url: someUrl, data: {'': ''}, success: function(data) { var decoded = $.parseJSON(data); var fx = decoded.fx; var data = decode.data; //fx is the dynamic function that create the DOM from the data and append to the existing container fx(container, data); } }); I don't need to know, at this time what data would be like, but in the future I will, and I can then write fx accordingly.

  • Name attribute is obsolete, what is the correct behavior when dealing with anchors?

    - by Tchalvak
    Putting some code through the html5 validator, I get this: Warning: The name attribute on the a element is obsolete. Consider putting an id attribute on the nearest container instead. I find that unclear. Is the "nearest container" for an anchor link the a itself, so that the correct code would be <a id='blah'> instead of <a name='blah'>? Or are empty placeholder <a> tags as a whole deprecated, and anchors can simply point to any element with an id instead?

  • Concurrency Utilities for Java EE Early Draft (JSR 236)

    - by arungupta
    Concurrency Utilities for Java EE is being worked as JSR 236 and has released an Early Draft. It provides concurrency capabilities to Java EE application components without compromising container integrity. Simple (common) and advanced concurrency patterns are easily supported without sacrificing usability. Using Java SE concurrency utilities such as java.util.concurrent API, java.lang.Thread and java.util.Timer in a Java EE application component such as EJB or Servlet are problematic since the container and server have no knowledge of these resources. JSR 236 enables concurrency largely by extending the Concurrency Utilities API developed under JSR-166. This also allows a consistency between Java SE and Java EE concurrency programming model. There are four main programming interfaces available: ManagedExecutorService ManagedScheduledExecutorService ContextService ManagedThreadFactory ManagedExecutorService is a managed version of java.util.concurrent.ExecutorService. The implementations of this interface are provided by the container and accessible using JNDI reference: <resource-env-ref>  <resource-env-ref-name>    concurrent/BatchExecutor  </resource-env-ref-name>  <resource-env-ref-type>    javax.enterprise.concurrent.ManagedExecutorService  </resource-env-ref-type><resource-env-ref> and available as: @Resource(name="concurrent/BatchExecutor")ManagedExecutorService executor; Its recommended to bind the JNDI references in the java:comp/env/concurrent subcontext. The asynchronous tasks that need to be executed need to implement java.lang.Runnable or java.util.concurrent.Callable interface as: public class MyTask implements Runnable { public void run() { // business logic goes here }} OR public class MyTask2 implements Callable<Date> {  public Date call() { // business logic goes here   }} The task is then submitted to the executor using one of the submit method that return a Future instance. The Future represents the result of the task and can also be used to check if the task is complete or wait for its completion. Future<String> future = executor.submit(new MyTask(), String.class);. . .String result = future.get(); Another example to submit tasks is: class MyTask implements Callback<Long> { . . . }class MyTask2 implements Callback<Date> { . . . }ArrayList<Callable> tasks = new ArrayList<();tasks.add(new MyTask());tasks.add(new MyTask2());List<Future<Object>> result = executor.invokeAll(tasks); The ManagedExecutorService may be configured for different properties such as: Hung Task Threshold: Time in milliseconds that a task can execute before it is considered hung Pool Info Core Size: Number of threads to keep alive Maximum Size: Maximum number of threads allowed in the pool Keep Alive: Time to allow threads to remain idle when # of threads > Core Size Work Queue Capacity: # of tasks that can be stored in inbound buffer Thread Use: Application intend to run short vs long-running tasks, accordingly pooled or daemon threads are picked ManagedScheduledExecutorService adds delay and periodic task running capabilities to ManagedExecutorService. The implementations of this interface are provided by the container and accessible using JNDI reference: <resource-env-ref>  <resource-env-ref-name>    concurrent/BatchExecutor  </resource-env-ref-name>  <resource-env-ref-type>    javax.enterprise.concurrent.ManagedExecutorService  </resource-env-ref-type><resource-env-ref> and available as: @Resource(name="concurrent/timedExecutor")ManagedExecutorService executor; And then the tasks are submitted using submit, invokeXXX or scheduleXXX methods. ScheduledFuture<?> future = executor.schedule(new MyTask(), 5, TimeUnit.SECONDS); This will create and execute a one-shot action that becomes enabled after 5 seconds of delay. More control is possible using one of the newly added methods: MyTaskListener implements ManagedTaskListener {  public void taskStarting(...) { . . . }  public void taskSubmitted(...) { . . . }  public void taskDone(...) { . . . }  public void taskAborted(...) { . . . } }ScheduledFuture<?> future = executor.schedule(new MyTask(), 5, TimeUnit.SECONDS, new MyTaskListener()); Here, ManagedTaskListener is used to monitor the state of a task's future. ManagedThreadFactory provides a method for creating threads for execution in a managed environment. A simple usage is: @Resource(name="concurrent/myThreadFactory")ManagedThreadFactory factory;. . .Thread thread = factory.newThread(new Runnable() { . . . }); concurrent/myThreadFactory is a JNDI resource. There is lot of interesting content in the Early Draft, download it, and read yourself. The implementation will be made available soon and also be integrated in GlassFish 4 as well. • jQuery - animating 'left' position of absolutely positioned div when sliding panel is revealed

    - by trickymatt
    Hello, I have a hidden panel off the left side of the screen which slides into view on the click of a 'tab' positioned on the left side of the screen. I need the panel to slide over the top of the existing page content, and I need the tab to move with it. and so both are absolutely positioned in css. Everything works fine, apart from I need the tab (and thus the tab-container) to move left with the panel when it is revealed, so it appears to be stuck to the right-hand-side of the panel. Its relatively simple when using floats, but of course this affects the layout of the existing content, hence absolute positioning. I have tried animating the left position of the panel-container (see the documented jquery function), but I cant get it to work. My HTML <div><!--sample page content--> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et </p> </div> <div id="panel" class="height"> <!--the hidden panel --> <div class="content"> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore</p> </div> </div> <!--if javascript is disabled use this link--> <div id="tab-container" class="height"> <a href="#" onclick="return()"> <div id="tab"><!-- this will activate the panel. --></div> </a> </div> My jQuery $(document).ready(function(){ $("#panel, .content").hide(); //hides the panel and content from the user $('#tab').toggle(function(){ //adding a toggle function to the #tab $('#panel').stop().animate({width:"400px", opacity:0.8}, 100, //sliding the #panel to 400px // THIS NEXT FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK --> function() { $('#tab-container').animate({left:"400px"} //400px to match the panel width }); function() { $('.content').fadeIn('slow'); //slides the content into view. }); }, function(){ //when the #tab is next cliked $('.content').fadeOut('slow', function() { //fade out the content $('#panel').stop().animate({width:"0", opacity:0.1}, 500); //slide the #panel back to a width of 0 }); }); }); and this is the css #panel { position:absolute; left:0px; top:50px; background-color:#999999; height:500px; display:none;/*hide the panel if Javascript is not running*/ } #panel .content { width:290px; margin-left:30px; } #tab-container{ position:absolute; top:20px; width:50px; height:620px; background:#161616; } #tab { width:50px; height:150px; margin-top:100px; display:block; cursor:pointer; background:#DDD; } Many thanks

  • Why doesn't max-height hold in Mobile safari in landscape mode?

    - by Mick79
    I am building a small portfolio site for myself and have come across an odd quirk. I have an image inside a container, and to allow for multiple screen sizes, I am setting all dimensions in % rather than pixels. in iphone portrait mode, everything is fine. However in landscape mode, my image bursts out of its container, completely ignoring the max-height:100%; rule that works fine in portrait. code: #centralident{ position:relative; width:50%; height:50%; box-shadow: 0 0 10px black; margin-left:25%; margin-top:13%; } #centralident img{ max-height:100%; }

  • Models from 3ds max lose their transformations when input into XNA

    - by jacobian
    I am making models in 3ds max. However when I export them to .fbx format and then input them into XNA, they lose their scaling. -It is most likely something to do with not using the transforms from the model correctly, is the following code correct -using xna 3.0 Matrix[] transforms=new Matrix[playerModel.Meshes.Count]; playerModel.CopyAbsoluteBoneTransformsTo(transforms); // Draw the model. int count = 0; foreach (ModelMesh mesh in playerModel.Meshes) { foreach (BasicEffect effect in mesh.Effects) { effect.World = transforms[count]* Matrix.CreateScale(scale) * Matrix.CreateRotationX((float)MathHelper.ToRadians(rx)) * Matrix.CreateRotationY((float)MathHelper.ToRadians(ry)) * Matrix.CreateRotationZ((float)MathHelper.ToRadians(rz))* Matrix.CreateTranslation(position); effect.View = view; effect.Projection = projection; effect.EnableDefaultLighting(); } count++; mesh.Draw(); }

  • Deferent ways of solving problems in code.

    - by Erin
    I now program in C# for a living but before that I programmed in python for 5 years. I have found that I write C# very that most examples I see on the web. Rather then writing things like: foreach (string bar in foo) { //bar has something doen to it here } I write code that looks like this. foo.ForEach( c => c.someActionhere() ) Or var result = foo.Select( c => { //Some code here to transform the item. }).ToList(); I think my using code like above came form my love of map and reduce in python while not exactly the same thing the concepts are close. Now it's time for my question. What concepts do you take and move with you from language to language. That allow you to solve a problem in a way that is not the normal accepted solution in that language?

  • does class reference itself static anti pattern in prism

    - by Michael Riva
    I have an application and my desing approach look like this: class Manager { public int State; static Manager _instance = null; public static Manager Instance { get { return _instance; } set { if (_instance == value) return; _instance = value; } } public Manager() { State = 0; Instance=this; } } class Module1 { public void GetState() { Console.WriteLine(Manager.Instance.State); } } class Module2 { public void GetState() { Console.WriteLine(Manager.Instance.State); } } class Module3 { public void GetState() { Console.WriteLine(Manager.Instance.State); } } Manager class already registered in Bootstrapper like : protected override void ConfigureContainer() { base.ConfigureContainer(); Container.RegisterType<Manager>(new ContainerControlledLifetimeManager()); } protected override void InitializeModules() { Manager man= Container.Resolve<Manager>(); } Question is do I need to define my manager object as static in its field to be able to reach its state? Or this is anti pattern or bad for performance?
