• Need help with Excel 2007 Formula - Many to many update

  I'm experienced with database development, but not so much with Excel. I'm looking for help writing an Excel formula that would help my client's spreadsheet behave like a database. This is what I'm looking to do, but I can't figure out how to write it in Excel 2007: "If Q4 (on sheet 2) contains A2 (on sheet 1), append A1 (on sheet 1) with Q5 (on sheet 2)" Some factors: 1) This formula may find multiple instances of A2, so it should not stop after finding the first match 2) The values, as they are created in A1, should be separated with comma and space 3) This is a many to many relationship between Q4 and A2 Thanks for any help with this. I've tried vlookups, match, if statements, but they all fall short in one way or another.

• C# class code loaded in RAM ?

  hi, I would like to know whether the actual code of a C# class gets loaded in RAM when you instantiate the class? So for example if I have 2 Classes CLASS A , CLASS B, where class A has 10000 lines of code but just 1 field, an int. And class B has 10 lines of code and also 1 field an int as well. If I instantiate Class A will it take more RAM than Class B due to its lines of code ? A supplementary question, If the lines of code are loaded in memory together with the class, will they be loaded for every instance of the class? or just once for all the instances?   I have a configuration file that has entries for various devices, with each entry separated by a blank line. I need to search the file for all instances of a given device type, and count the number of non-blank lines following the occurrence, stopping at the first blank. For example: Server=foo config line 1 config line 2 config line 3 Server=bar config line 1 config line 2 Server=foo config line 1 If I wanted to know how many total "config lines" were associated with server "foo", I should get four. Can you please help?

  I have a class with protected constructor: class B { protected: B(){}; }; Now I derive from it and define two static functions and I manage to actually create objects of the class B, but not on the heap: class A : public B { public: static B createOnStack() {return B();} //static B* createOnHeap() {return new B;} //Compile time Error on VS2010 }; B b = A::createOnStack(); //This works on VS2010! The question is: 1) Is VS2010 wrong in allowing the first case? 2) Is it possible to create objects of B without modifying B in any way (no friendship and no extra functions).   okay, I understand the basics of jQuery, and I know that in some instances I've had to use .live('click',function(){...}); instead of .click(function(){...}); to get the method to fire correctly. the method I'm currently looking at is: $('#title').bind('keyup', function(){...}); This works great, except because it's in a bit of code that isn't called until another action is preformed, I'd need to use .live() as described above. Problem is, I don't know how to format this one to work using the .live() method instead of .bind() as shown above. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance!

Within the MainViewModel I spread those services to other ViewModels via constructor parameter passing. Should I use any DI framework for the services in the App class? If yes whats the benefit of resolving the services instead of just creating the instance manually... ?

  I have a string S. How can I find if the string follows S = nT. Examples: Function should return true if 1) S = "abab" 2) S = "abcdabcd" 3) S = "abcabcabc" 4) S = "zzxzzxzzx" But if S="abcb" returns false. I though maybe we can repeatedly call KMP on substrings of S and then decide. eg: for "abab": call on KMP on "a". it returns 2(two instances). now 2*len("a")!=len(s) call on KMP on "ab". it returns 2. now 2*len("ab")==len(s) so return true Can you suggest any better algorithms?

• Using a CNAME with Shared Windows Azure Website

  I've been following instructions on the Azure site to add a CNAME to point to my Azure website. I have had some problems getting it to work and there seems to be some contradictory information in some of the posts. I have my website running in "Shared" mode, which according to the Azure instructions supports custom domains and indeed it seems to allow me to manage domains. But some posts seem to indicate that I have to run in reserved mode. Can anyone confirm this? Also, some posts seem to indicate that I need to add the CNAME in the Azure management portal, but I cannot find where this is. Any help appreciated? I don't really understand A records and CNAME that well. My DNS provider allows me to add both. Do I need to change both? Currently my A record points the "root" to the IP address that Azure gives me and the CNAME points www.mydomain to the Azure website host mysite.azurewebsites.net. I have left them for a while to propogate and nothing seem to happen.

  Just a stupid question. I could try it out in 2 minutes, really. It's just that I have 1 GB RAM and have already got 2 instances of VS 2010 open on my desktop, with an instance of VS 2005, too. Opening another instance of VS 2010 would be an over kill. Can I have a type (for now forgetting its semantics) that can be covariant as well as contravariant? • Help, I need to debug my BrowserHelperObject (BHO) (in C++) after a internet explorer 8 crash in Rel

  Hi, here is the situation, i'm developping a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in C++ with Visual Studio 2008, and i learned that the memory wasn't managed the same way in Debug mode than in Release mode. So when i run my BHO in debug mode, internet explorer 8 works just fine and i got no erros at all, the browser stays alive forever, but as soon as i compile it in release mode, i got no errors, no message, nothing, but after 5 minutes i can see through the task manager that internet explorer instances are just eating memory and then the browser just stop responding every time. Please, I really need some hint on how to get a feedback on what could be the error. I heard that, often it was happening because of memory mismanagement. I need a software that just grab a memory dump or something when iexplorer crashes to help me find the problem. Any help is appreciated, I'll be looking for responses every single days, thank you.

• How to register a VB.Net User Control with jQuery

  Greetings and thank you in advance for the help. I created a user control in VB.NET that uses a jQuery datepicker. I am at an impasse. The code I have works for one datepicker control on the page but because I can only register the client script once, it will not work for multiple instances/datepickers on the same page.   I've been wanting to write a python script that would run several instances of rsync in sequence for backing up data to a different computer. At the moment I just have this text file with the commands I use and I've just been copy-pasting them into the terminal, and it seems kinda silly. I want to be able to use python to do this for me. I know very vaguely how to use subprocess.popen, but I have no clue how to get python to interact with rsync directly, like for entering my password for me. Can python do that? Something like: if theProccess.proccessResponse == "Password:" : theProccess.respond(string) Or is the best that I can do is just have it, or even a bash script, just run the rsyncs in sequence and have to type my password in over and over again?   At my company we want to start using a dependency injection (DI) framework for managing our dependencies. I have some difficulty with explaining the business value of such a framework. Currently I have come up with these reasons. Less source code, delete all the builder patterns in the code. Increase in flexibility. Easier to switch dependencies. Better separation of concern. The framework is responsible for creating instances instead of our code. Has anybody else had to persuade management? How did you do that? What reasons did you use?

  Newb question: how do i show a from that have been hidden using this.Hide(); I have tried MainMenuForm.Show(); and this just says i need an object ref have tried: MainMenuForm frmMainMenu = new MainMenuForm(); frmMainMenu.Show(); which seems to show the appropriate form. but when you exit the app, it is still held in memory because it hasn't shown the form that was hidden, instead it has shown a new version of the form. in effect having 2 instances of the form (one hidden, one visible). whats the correct procedure here Thanks in advance

• is there a good reason to fear closed-source code *inside* of open-source libraries?

  Here's the situation. At work here, I hear there is resistance to using open source code (Nant in particular) because there might be copyrighted code in there. Meaning somewhere in that open source tool or library there might be a chunk of code that was directly lifted from copyrighted code. In theory, this means our company (which is quite large) get sued for big money because they used an open source library. We don't ship any software, so how this theoretical plaintiff would find this out is a mystery. I have also heard that some group of people came through a year or two ago and actually found instances of this in our codebase. That's hearsay of course, so who knows. Is this simple paranoia? Didn't something similar to this happen with Linux a while ago? Wouldn't the burden of checking for copyrighted code lie with the people who made the code, not the people who use it?

I'm trying to convert a Perl script into Python (3.x) which connects to a remote server and copies the files in a given directory to the local machine. Integrity of the transfer is paramount and there are several steps built-in to ensure a complete and accurate transfer. The first step is to get a complete listing of the files to be passed to rsync. The Perl script has the following lines to accomplish this: @dir_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/dirname {} \\;'`; @file_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/basename {} \\;'`; The two lists are then joined to create $full_list. Rather than open two separate ssh instances I'd like to open one and use os.walk to get the information using: for remdirname, remdirnames, remfilesnames in os.walk(remotedir): for remfilename in remfilesnames: remfulllist.append(os.path.join(remdirname, remfilename)) Thank you for any help you can provide.

• Python - Is it possible to get the name of the chained function?

  I'm working on a class that basically allows for method chaining, for setting some attrbutes for different dictionaries stored. The syntax is as follows: d = Test() d.connect().setAttrbutes(Message=Blah, Circle=True, Key=True) But there can also be other instances, so, for example: d = Test() d.initialise().setAttrbutes(Message=Blah) Now I believe that I can overwrite the "setattrbutes" function; I just don't want to create a function for each of the dictionary. Instead I want to capture the name of the previous chained function. So in the example above I would then be given "connect" and "initialise" so I know which dictionary to store these inside. I hope this makes sense. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

• Deterministic random number generator with context?

  I am looking for a seeded random number generator that creates a pool of numbers as a context. It doesn't have to be too good. It is used for a game, but it is important, that each instance of the Game Engine has it's own pool of numbers, so that different game instances or even other parts of the game that use random numbers don't break the deterministic character of the generated numbers. Currently I am using rand() which obviously doesn't have this feature. Are there any c or objective-c generators that are capable of doing what I want? Best regards, Michael

It can reference the literal value of attribute @b. Or more generally, I want to find if there are any instances where there are two or more elements e[@b=A'] with the same value for attribute @a. Is this possible?
