  • Java Instance of: Supertypes and Subtypes seem to be equal? How to test exactly for Type?

    I need to test, if an instance is exactly of a given type. But it seems that instanceof returns true also if the subtype is tested for the supertype (case 3). I never knew this before and I am quite surprised. Am I doing something wrong here? How do I exactly test for a given type? //.. class DataSourceEmailAttachment extends EmailAttachment //...     I wrote a little Haskell program to find the area of a triangle, primarily to practice custom types, but it keeps throwing the following error on compile: areafinder.hs:7:4: Couldn't match expected type 'Triangle' against inferred type 'm b' In a stmt of a 'do' expression: putStr "Base: " In the expression: do { putStr "Base: "; baseStr I'm not sure where 'm b' comes from, so I'm at a loss here. Why is it throwing this error, and what can I do to fix it?   • Hudson, is it possible to make a plugin configuration non-visible depending on job type?

    With the plugin (SCM plugin) I'm working on the problem is that it doesn't work in any other job/project type than Freestyle-project. I'd like to hide the plugin configuration from project configuration page on other job/project types (maven, matrix etc), because it seems to distract people. I wonder if there's a "right" way of doing this, or any way at all? Currently the project type is checked in checkout-method as a first thing, and if it doesn't match, the build is failed instantly, but this is not completely satisfactory solution, since it causes a bit more work to the end user.

  • Different font SIZES in a Text Editor, based on Script(Alphabet) type (ie. per Unicode Code-Block)

    Some non-Latin-based scripts(alphabets) have more detail in their glyphs than do the Latin-based-script equivalents, and typically need a larger font to give the same degree of legibility (resolution-wise). Sometimes, both script types need to be present in the same file. Notepad++ allows different font SIZES (and colour, etc) courtesy of syntax-highlighting. This allows me to display larger-fonted non-Latin-based script in a // BIG-FONT comment. Although this has been quite handy for me in some situations, it is quite limited. A Word Processor can handle this scenario, but I'm not interested in that. I want a nice simple(?) plain(?) Text Editor to do it... on a per script-type basis... eg. mixing Latin-1 and Devanagari (and Mandarin, and ... Such a thing may not exits, but Notepad++ has shown that a simple(?) plain(?) Text Editor is capable of it. Does anyone know of such a Text Editor? ...Q. Why not a Word Processor? ...A. Because GCC and Python don't like that format! but UTF-8 is fine.

  • How can I pass a type as a parameter in scala?

    I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out how can I store or pass a type in scala. What I want to achive is something like this: abstract class Foo( val theType : type ) object Foo{ case object Foo1 extends Foo(String) case object Foo2 extends Foo(Long) } So at some point I can do this: theFoo match{ case String => "Is a string" case Long => "Is a long" } and when obtaining the object being able to cast it: theFoo.asInstanceOf[Foo1.theType] Is this possible? If is possible, is a good aproach? What I'm trying to achieve ultimately is writing a pseudo schema for byte stream treatment. E.g if I have an schema Array(Foo1,Foo1,Foo2,Foo3,Foo1) I could parse Arrays of bytes that complain with that schema, if at some point I have a different stream of bytes I could just write a new schema Array(Foo3, Foo4, Foo5) without having to reimplement parsing logic. I came up with this: T1.GetType().GetMethods().Where(x => x.DeclaringType.Namespace == "System"); But this will get all methods in my custom type, but I want to look inside each Method, so I was hoping I could do something like: T1.GetType().GetMethods().BodyTypesUsed; to check if my method uses a type like Streamwriter. How could I achieve this?

  • Are there any real life uses for the Java byte primitive type?

    For some inexplicable reason the byte primitive type is signed in Java. This mean that valid values are -128..127 instead of the usual 0..255 range representing 8 significant bits in a byte (without a sign bit). This mean that all byte manipulation code usually does integer calculations and end up masking out the last 8 bits. I was wondering if there is any real life scenario where the Java byte primitive type fits perfectly or if it is simply a completely useless design decision? EDIT: The sole actual use case was a single-byte placeholder for native code. In other words, not to be manipulated as a byte inside Java code.

    Hello, I have a form which asks the user his or her date of birth. Its a drop down box since I use the select input type. The first drop down has Months, second has Days, the third has the Years. So the format should be Month(October), Day(25), Year(1990). In other words the months spell out the actual month and not simply the number representation of the month. However, I would like to save the Day and Year in their respective formats. How can I do this in phpMyAdmin? Should I use the DATE type? what should the value be? I just need to know how to correlate all of this in phpmyadmin, so I can save it properly. Thank you.

    In some interfaces i wrote I'd like to name generic type parameter with more than one character to make the code more readable. Something like.... Map<Key,Value> Instead of this... Map<K,V> But when it comes to methods, the type-parameters look like java-classes which is also confusing. public void put(Key key, Value value) This seems like Key and Value are classes.   • Best neural network for certain type of pattern analysis?

    Hi All, I'm working on a system that will send telemetry data on machine operation back to a central server for analysis. One of the machine parameters we're measuring is motor current drawn vs time. After an operation is finished we plan to send back an array of currents vs time to the server. A successful operation would have a pattern like a trapezoid, problematic operations would have a pattern completely different, more like a large spike in values. Can anyone recommend a type of neural network that would be good at classifying these 1D vectors of current values into a pass/fail type output? Thanks, Fred

    Please point me to correct link if this has been answered before. I have this code: def getResult(a:Any):Any = a def getAnswer[T](i:Int) = { val result = getResult(i) result match { case t:T => Some(t) case _ => None } } This gives me a unchecked warning and everything matches to T. For instance, when I do getAnswer[Int](2), I get Some(2) (as expected). However, if I do getAnswer[String](2), I also get Some(2) which is not expected (I need None). Is there any way to work around type erasure and somehow get getAnswer to work correctly (i.e., return Some(result) if and only if the result is of type T)? Thanks in advance.

  • EC2 Filesystem / Files stored on the wrong partiton after launching new instance from AMI

    Today I set up a new EC2 Instance from and AMI I created from an older EC2 instance. When I launched the new instance I took the AMI that was on a small instance and launched with a medium instance. From what I can tell this is pretty standard stuff. But here's the stang part. According to AWS these are the differences Small Instance (Default) 1.7 GB of memory, 1 EC2 Compute Unit (1 virtual core with 1 EC2 Compute Unit), 160 GB of local instance storage, 32-bit or 64-bit platform Medium Instance 3.75 GB of memory, 2 EC2 Compute Units (1 virtual core with 2 EC2 Compute Units each), 410 GB of local instance storage, 32-bit or 64-bit platform Okay now here's where I'm having an issue. I when I log into the new bigger instance it still reports only having 1.7 GB of ram. The other strange part is that all my old partitions are still their in the same configurations. I see a new larger partition /mnt which is essential empty. Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 7.9G 5.9G 1.6G 79% / none 846M 120K 846M 1% /dev none 879M 0 879M 0% /dev/shm none 879M 76K 878M 1% /var/run none 879M 0 879M 0% /var/lock none 879M 0 879M 0% /lib/init/rw /dev/sda2 335G 195M 318G 1% /mnt /dev/sdf 16G 9.9G 5.1G 67% /var2 This EC2 is a web server and I was serving files off the /var2 directory but for some reason the instance is storing everything on / Okay here's what I'd like to do. Move all my website files to /mnt and have the web server point to that. Any suggestions?
