• adding tagged / dynamic pages in sitemap

  ive got a blog thats been running for about a year ive made about 200 posts, and there should be about 220 pages to index (additional pages for about / contact ect). When i go to crawl the site i get 1900 pages because of all the pages that are related to tags ive used in my blogs these 70% of these pages only contain one blog post. When submitting my site map to google should i exclude all pages with /tagged/ in the url so ill only be submitting unqiue pages, or should i submit the full site map ?

• Tag link suggestion plugin for wordpress?

  Hi, every time I write a post I make sure I add links to wordsthat I have tags for. For example: "The economy of Brazil has improved in the last few years" this ensure that when people re-post my content, a lot of back-links will be created to my tags. This is quite a lot of work to do manually for every post. It would be cool if there was a plugin that would suggest tags to be applied when they match existing words in the text of the post. Is there such a thing?

• Ideas for making money off a website

  I'm considering acquiring a website that traffics close to 20k a month. It's currently unprofitable, but obviously I would need to change that to justify the cost. It's a support site for a framework similar to CakePHP. A resource that allows people to find plugins for that site. How would you go about expanding this site so that it would be broad enough to raise traffic and how would you make money off of it? Some ideas I've had: 1- BuySellAds.com seem to make ads classy and relevant 2- Team up with other sites in some way (What ways? ... Ecommerce sites that sell plugins (like CodeCanyon), etc) 3- Write tutorials and such to drive more traffic (time consuming, and already heavily saturated for this framework). Are there resources out there that help webmasters in ways like this?

• My site is getting popular, bandwidth expensive

  I'm running a (small) image hosting site which has been getting a little bit of traction lately (2,000 to 5,000 visitors a day, spikes up to 10,000). It's hosted on Linode and I've already run out of the bandwidth for this month (300 GB). I've experimented with Amazon S3 but that was costing me $5 a day, Linode currently costs me $30 a month. I get a tiny bit of revenue from ads (Adsense and Black Label Ads) but it's not enough to break even. What should I do? Obviously I'd like to keep running the site but not if it starts costing me a lot of money.

  Firefox and Chrome are my favourite browsers. The main reason is an extension called Adblock Plus. Basically, it blocks all the ad networks if you subscribe to one of the lists, like EasyList. Does it also protect against malicious ads on completely legitimate websites? For instance, several news websites use ad services that may allow a malicious user to insert "evil code". This makes the web very unsafe, especially for those who lack a serious antivirus product.

• Need to redirect Wordpress category archives

  I recently changed my Wordpress category structure a bit, changing some of the names and placing some under different parent categories. I don't use category name in my post URLs, so that's not a problem. But my category archive pages are indexed and have page rank I don't want to lose. So I need to redirect: "/category/old_cat_name" to "/category/new_cat_name". Or in some cases to /new_cat_name/new_sub_cat. I gather that I can't do this though the WP Redirection plugin and that I have to modify my .htaccess. Can someone show me what lines to add there--or is there another better way to do this? Thanks.

• Web hosting providers for businesses (with offsite backups, disaster recovery options, etc.) [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a couple of web hosting providers that are geared towards businesses. By this I mean providers that make it easy to create daily off site backups, are aware that websites require disaster recovery options and have these in place or are able to assist with them, etc. We currently have about a dozen sites with various providers, however, I've been asked to consolidate all of these into one provider and create a full disaster recovery plan. Unfortunately it seems like most providers are geared towards average users that don't require all these extra bells and whistles that businesses need. For example, HostGator, which is a very popular and well reviewed provider, doesn't even allow you to schedule full backups, they have to be manually requested via cPanel and then downloaded once available. If anyone can point out a couple companies that might be able to help with these sorts of things that would be much appreciated. Thanks, Harry P.S. I should also add that we are hoping to stay away from having to manage our own server, we're hoping for a fully managed solution like what HostGator would offer for example.

• Can I use Google Search to determine if my website contains original or copied content?

  I have a few websites from customers that have (partially) the same content as other websites. I plan on rewriting all content that is not original, but how do I know if my websites have original content, or content that's been copied from another website? My customers say all the content is original, but I have my doubts to be honest. They often let other people who don't work there anymore write content for the sites. What I did so far is copy a line from my website that can be found in other websites as well and pasted it into Google Search. If my website is the first link, would it be considered the original source?

• Mobile phone detection (brand, model, browser etc)

  What do you use to detect visitor's mobile phone, down to the model if possible? Currently we maintain our own database but it's really getting behind due to lack of manpower to maintain it, so we decided to give 3rd party solution a try. These are my candidates but I don't have time to really try them all: DeviceAtlas - 1 year personal evaluation, but basic license is affordable. Their database look solid with daily update and user-contributed tests / updates. I am favoring this one at the moment. DetectRight - I was recommended this by a colleague but really can't find much from their site. 20k devices -- really? WURFL - Open source, database collaboratively derived from UAProf. So basically if you're going with UAProf solution, you're better off with WURFL. DetectMoBileBrowsers - This looks like the simplest of all. Too bad it's language dependent (PHP). Please share your experience or suggestions!

  I'm having a really hard time finding a great alternative for Macbook Pro (I have a MB pro '08). I'd like to return to ubuntu and need a kick-ass laptop. If you help, you've lead me back to linux :) Req: ubuntu friendly lots of memory 8G+ ssd 160GB+ great processor (intel sandy?) connect up to three external displays. this triple display looks cool No optical drive, NO DVD 13-17" dock. In place of the ridiculous optical drive (It's like having a floppy drive IMO): extra battery? 2nd ssd? extra graphics card? your suggestion The laptop should be designed for not having dvd. I can't find many, unless they are tiny 11"... I'm exited to know your answers!

• How to host a simple website using a domain name I own

  I'm familiar with hosting webapps when I'm doing "the whole shebang" of installing / configuring / setting up Apache/Tomcat/PostreSQL / "coding" the website myself using HTML / JSP / CSS etc. on dedicated servers I'm renting. But in the above case, I'm "owning" the entire stack: from the Debian GNU/Linux dedicated servers to every single file that is served. Now I'd like to do something much simpler and I must admit I don't know what's involved at all. I'd like to host a simple website made of only a few static pages (no database, no nothing) and I'd like it to be accessible from "example.com". What needs to be technically done to have such a thing? How is the DNS supposed to be set up? Note that I do not want to host this on one of my dedicated servers.

• International search: how to show different domains in Google+ Local?

  Background A site has multiple ccTLDs: example.com for people in the US, example.co.uk for UK users, example.de for Germany, example.fr for France, etc. Searching for certain city keywords will return a list of Google+ Local (formerly Places): Each links to the corresponding company website that is visible. Problem When searching on www.google.de, the domain of the site intended for US users (example.com) appears instead of the corresponding ccTLD (example.de) aimed at German users. This applies to all languages. In my opinion and for the purposes of this business, it's not good user experience: searchers would most likely prefer to book on a site localized for them (e.g. in their language and currency). Question Is it possible to return different ccTLDs in these local search listings for users across the globe? Currently, Google+ Local seems to only support supports adding a single "Website" field. Solutions I have considered Creating duplicate Google Places listings for each URL would be spammy (and not viable when there's 100s of locations, each needing a listing in 8 languages). I don't see the hreflang annotation helping either, and GWMT geotargeting is already set.

• The layout page "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml" could not be found

  I got this error and I can't figure out what is going on. I am positive the _layout.cshtml resides in the shared folder and for the sake of trying things out, I moved to the Home folder and it then told that the Views/Home/_Layout.cshtml couldn't be found there either. So now I'm thinking the problem is in the call for this file for some reason. I'm not going to pretend I know ASP.NET MVC4, so please when you answer, explain it as you would to someone who is not familiar with the system at all. Believe it or not, this error came from tutorial #1 ha ha Here's the code to show that I did code it right: @{ ViewBag.Title = "Home Page"; Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml"; } And here is a picture of the location p.s.   I have a VPS with A2Hosting for which i need to upgrade the OS. However, they've changed their VPS packages and forced me to order a new one. I went with an "unmanaged" package and have only just realised that they do not provide any DNS service at all, not even nameservers. Support tells me that "since your domain is not hosted with us, but with Moniker, you would not be able to use these nameservers. Your domain registrar should have a set of default nameservers that you can use, then create a A record to point to" my IP address. Moniker does provide for using their nameservers but i'm confused about which "pre-defined zone configuration" to use. They are: Domain Parking Domain Parking with Email Forwarding URL and Email Forwarding URL Forwarding URL Forwarding & CoolHandle Email I just want to use their nameserver and then create A & MX records pointing to the VPS. What do they mean by forwarding? I get the feeling it's a service that i don't want. Or, is it that i need to have a pre-defined zone only temporarily, and THEN set the A & MX? Which of these should i choose.

• Some Adsense domain's ads are causing document.write() statements that remove the html from the page

  All that is output on the page is the domain name of the advertiser, for example 'www.solar-aid.org'. The rest of the content is stripped, I believe because of a document.write() statement. I'd like to know if this is a common issue or something wrong with our setup. There are three domains causing the issue, which we've blocked from Adsense as a result. solar-aid.org kiva.org grameenfoundation.org Given the type of organizations I think they may be within the default group of 'public service ads' within the Backup Ads setting. If the issue doesn't completely resolve itself soon (one customer of ours complained today, even though I blocked them 5+ days ago), I'll disable public service ads and select the 'fill space with a solid color' option.

  all. I use blogger as a platform for electronic music blog. Because of the thematics of the blog I embed many iframes (Youtube & Soundcloud). Of course this makes the articles to load slow. Almost each article on this blog consists of some text and many iframes below. What should I do in this particular case in order to make the articles (pages) load faster. Is there any available solution or I should use some jquery like lazy load to load iframes once the scroller reaches them? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  I'm using magento 1.4.0 and when I try to get to magento connect and download a plugin the page will say Error: Please check for sufficient write file permissions Your Magento folder does not have sufficient write permissions, which this web based downloader requires.   I have a company website hosted at www.BRAND.com (where BRAND is a generic name). The company want to develop a "micro website" for one of their campaigns, named "Inspired By BRAND". I have two directions: inspired.by.BRAND.com - which I personally don't like too much. I don't know why but I don't recall any web address similar to this one subdomain.subdomain.domain.com. inspired.BRAND.com - which I this is best suited for it. Fewer dots and similar to "more friendly" addresses subdomain.domain.com. Any hints, guidelines, any thoughts is well appreciated. Thanks in advance

• Is this a link scheme? If so, what to do? what problems can i face?

  I was asked to remodel a website, and decided to check its rank on alexa. Surprisingly, there are many, many different websites linking to it, none relevant. One particular thing about it is that none of these urls work, and they all display the exact same error when accessed, which to me is a very good indication that this is some sort of linking scheme. (besides the somewhat obvious names, it even says scheme in one of the urls !?) If so, how should i proceed about this website? • How can I convince IE to honor my explicit instructions to make a table column X pixels wide? [migrated]

However render it in IE8 or 9 the width and/or max-width is ignored. So my question is how do get IE to simply let me specify the width of a cell explicitly? BTW, I've tried various combinations of table-layout:fixed and using colgroup with cols and all sorts, nothing I've tried convinces IE to what I'm clearly asking it to explicitly do? If I had any hair before starting this I wouldn't have any left by now.
