• DHCP "no answer" on CentOS 6.4

Yet, if I disable my other DHCP server (Win2k3) and get a client to try renewing its IP lease, it times out. So I installed dhcping. No matter what options I try, including directing dhcping at my server, adding a client address in the range, adding my hardware address, it replies 'no answer'. I'm also trying -i since that seems to be more akin to what a WinXP client would try to do, based on /var/log/messages. • Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly. • 8Gb Fiber Channcel HBA vs. 10 Gb SPF+ Converged HBA

  I am putting a Dell server together, more specifically R720. I have to select the correct Host Bus Adapter. This HBA on R710 will connect to a storage device. I am confused between these two: QLogic 2562, Dual Port 8Gb Optical Fiber Channel HBA (price $2,045) QLogic 8262, Dual Port 10Gb SFP+, Converged Network Adapter (price $1,618) I thought since the QLogic 2562 is a fiber channel and is more expensive then it is faster in terms of IOPS. But, it is a 8Gb as opposed to 10 Gb of SFP+. My questions: Which one is better (IOPS performance, etc.)? Why should I choose one over another?

• Why are my 2 new windows 7 (64 bit) workstations taking over 10 minutes to log on to the SBS 2008 do

  Hi, we have a SBS 2008 domain. On this we have windows XP clients. However, we are testing the windows 7 (64 bit) machines on the network. It takes between 10 & 15 minutes to log on - every time! I have checked the event logs on the client machine, and the only error I can see is; Event ID: 6005 The winlogon notification subscriber is took 615 seconds to handle the notification event (CreateSession). I have no warnings in the server event log, everything pings ok by name, so am guessing DNS is fine. Can someone please lend a hand with this, as we really want to go with windows 7. Lastly, both the server, and the windows 7 machines are fully patched and updated. Thank you.

  Planning. I could stop there and let that be the entirety post #2 in this series.  Planning is the single most important element in building a cluster and the Laptop Demo Cluster is no exception.  One of the more awkward parts of actually creating a cluster is coordinating information between Windows Clustering and SQL Clustering.  The dialog boxes show up hours apart, but still have to have matching and consistent information. • Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly. • custom route not working on windows

  My windows laptop is directly connected to 192.168.1.0/24 (wireless lan). I access 10.21.0.0/16 though a router that is connected to both networks. The routing works fine with this configuration. I have a VPN, that connects to 10.0.0.0/8. The VPN network doesn't actually use any IPs in the 10.21.0.0/16 range. So I should be able to configure my routing table to route all the 10.21.0.0/16 IPs through the wireless lan, and all other 10.0.0.0/8 through the VPN. My understanding is that I can do this if the metric for the 10.21.0.0 is lower than that of the 10.0.0.0. The VPN (10.0.0.0) is automatically assigned metric 20. I have manually assigned the WLAN a metric of 1. I manually add an entry to the routing table with this command: route add 10.21.0.0 mask 255.255.0.0 192.168.1.201 metric 1 The route is then assigned a metric of 2 (which is expected). The problem is that it doesn't work. I can't ping any machine on the 10.21.0.0 network. But I can access other stuff on the 10.0.0.0. I can also access stuff on the 192.168.1.0. To debug this i've done the following. Run tcpdump on the router (192.168.1.201). I can verify that no packets for 10.21.0.0 arrive on that interface. Disable iptables on the router. Disable the windows firewall. Run wireshark on my laptop, to try and see which interface the ping requests go to. But I can't see them go anywhere!! The ping command doesn't receive any 'destination unreachable' messages. Here is the relevant section of the routing table.   Hello. I have a very simple task to accomplish: to start tomcat application server on latest MacOS as a daemon. I have performed following steps: Installed Tomcat in /Library/Tomcat/Home Validated that it runs fine by executed /Library/Tomcat/Home/bin/startup.sh Added org.apache.tomcat.plist file to /Library/LaunchDaemons as found on internet (http://blog.i18n.ro/complete-guide-for-installing-hudson-ci-on-os-x-10-6/) Instructed MacOS to load a daemon description via sudo launchctl load org.apache.tomcat.plist. It succeeded (issuing this command second time outputs "already loaded"). Instructed MacOS to start a daeon via sudo launchctl start org.apache.tomcat.plist At this point MacOS shows an error "launchctl start error: No such process". I have checked the logfile for launchd - it have no record for this error. Google says nothing. And from error text i can't figure out what is the "process" and why it is "wrong" :(. Any hints what i'm doing wrong?

  Well I'm not sure whether I'm missing something here. But all I've read is that if first octet of IP is within 0 - 127 then it is categorized as Class A subnet and correspondingly Subnet Mask for this is 255.0.0.0 but when I connect my system to Apple airport then my system gets IP as 10.0.1.4 however subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 not 255.0.0.0. Please explain what I'm missing here. If there is something like for apple router subnet mask is calculated on some different flags then please let me know.

  I am unable to change the Skype language from English to Portuguese in MacBook Pro running Mac OS X version 10.6.8. What I have done: I've downloaded the Portuguese version of Skype; I have under OSX ? System Preference ? Language & Text the language and country set to Portugal; I have my Skype account country and language set to Portugal, Portuguese. Still the Skype application is using English and AFAIK no menu exists to change the application language within the application itself. I was under the impression that Skype would collect the language from my system preferences as to properly present the menus. How can I change the language to Portuguese then?

• MySQL-5.5.10 - Lost connection to MySQL server during query (Both Web Clients and MySQL Slaves)

  We've just upgraded our existing MySQL5.1 DB servers to newer (much better) hardware with MySQL 5.5, and things have been going mostly smoothly for almost 6 weeks. Just the last few days, I've noticed a few errors, such as: From a MySQL Slave: [ERROR] Error reading packet from server: Lost connection to MySQL server during query ( server_errno=2013) Or From Apache/Other: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 At one point this evening, many webnodes reported this error for a three minute period (many such reports as this was in a busy period). However, the issues don't appear to correspond with any times of extreme load. For all intents and purposes, the connection/thread load on MySQL is at a normal rate (between about 10 and 40 connected threads), and Web load has been a LOT higher at times over the last few weeks. Could there bee other reasons for these connection errors, that I'm not seeing?

• Repercussions of Raising Domain Functional Level to 2008 on Mac computers running 10.6.2 with OD

  We have recently replaced all of our 2003 server domain controllers to 2008 r2 and have tried to implement PSO's but have found that the domain functional level must be raised to 2008. We have a mac server in our environment that runs open directory and it is integrated into AD. Does anyone know if I do raise the domain functional level (which makes sense since we only have 2008 r2 domain controllers) what the repercussions (if any) there will be on the macs in the environment? Macs are running 10.6.2 and mac server runs the same. Mac server is running OD and also bound to AD.

• Firefox 3.6.3 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - symbolic link to command line binary doesn't work?

  I have Firefox 10.6.3 installed on Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the DMG. I can run firefox from the terminal using /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin. However, if I create a symbolic link: sudo ln -s /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin /bin/firefox then it refuses to run, or at least display. When I issue "firefox" from the terminal, I can see the process in top, but never get the GUI to appear. :/ = ls -lr /bin/firefox lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 52 May 5 15:19 /bin/firefox - /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin Any ideas? • IPSec tunnel between FortiGate and iPhone / iOS - Works except for DNS / Wins

  I have configured my Fortigate with a new VPN IPSec tunnel to allow the iOS Cisco client to connect. That works fine. I can RDP to my servers, browse to my servers via IP address, etc. But, the iPhone does not resolve my internal IP addresses. I have added the DNS servers that serve addresses for my internal users, as well as the WINS servers, but the iPhone acts like it doesn't see them at all. config vpn ipsec phase1-interface edit "iPhone_VPN" set type dynamic set interface "wan1" set dhgrp 2 set proposal 3des-sha1 3des-md5 set xauthtype auto set mode-cfg enable set authusrgrp "iPhone_VPN_Users" set ipv4-start-ip 10.10.99.100 set ipv4-end-ip 10.10.99.199 set ipv4-netmask 255.255.0.0 set ipv4-dns-server1 10.10.2.1 set ipv4-dns-server2 10.22.1.80 set ipv4-wins-server1 10.10.2.1 set ipv4-wins-server2 10.22.1.80 set ipv4-split-include "Dialup_VPN_Networks" set psksecret ENC xxxxx next end For whatever reason, as far as I can tell, the iPhone does not 'see' the DNS or WINS entries.
