• How do I stop Chrome from yellowing my site's input boxes?

  Among other text and visual aids on a form submission, post-validation, I'm coloring my input boxes red to signify the interactive area needing attention. On Chrome (and for Google Toolbar users) the auto-fill feature re-colors my input forms yellow. Here's the complex issue: I want auto-complete allowed on my forms, as it speeds users logging in. I am going to check into the ability to turn the autocomplete attribute to off if/when there's an error triggered, but it is a complex bit of coding to programmatically turn off the auto-complete for the single effected input on a page. This, to put it simply, would be a major headache. So to try to avoid that issue, is there any simpler method of stopping Chrome from re-coloring the input boxes? [edit] I tried the !important suggestion below and it had no effect. I have not yet checked Google Toolbar to see if the !important attribute woudl work for that. As far as I can tell, there isn't any means other than using the autocomplete attribute (which does appear to work).

• Why are we getting a WCF "Framing error" on some machines but not others

  We have just found we are getting “framing errors” (as reported by the WCF logs) when running our system on some customer test machine. It all works ok on our development machines. We have an abstract base class, with KnownType attributes for all its sub classes. One of it’s subclass is missing it’s DataContract attribute. However it all worked on our test machine! On the customers test machine, we got “framing error” showing up the WCF logs, this is not the error message I have seen in the past when missing a DataContract attribute, or a KnownType attribute. I wish to get to the bottom of this, as we can no longer have confidence in our ability to test the system before giving it to the customer until we can make our machines behave the some as the customer’s machines. • How do I do a count on that meet a specific condition, dependent on several has_many relationships i

  I have a Model Campaign. A Campaign has many Events. Each Event has an attribute :days. A Campaign also has_many Contacts. Each Contact as a :date_entered attribute. The from_today(contact,event) method returns a number, which is the number of days from the contact's :date_entered till today minus the event's :days. In other words, a positive number shows the number of days from today till the :days of the event is elapsed. If it is negative, if means that the number of days that has elapsed since the :date_entered is greater than the :days attribute of an event. In other words, the event is overdue. What I would like to be able to do is do campaign.overdue and this would result in a total number of contacts that have an overdue event. It shouldn't count multiple events for a single contact, just one contact. How do I do that? It seems like I would need to cycle through all the events for every contact and keep a counter but I'm assuming that there is a better way.

  I'm having problems getting a count for a category collection that will include products in any of that categories children. However I don't want just a full count I want to filter that count by a product collection (so only include products in the count that appear in the product collection)... Any suggestions? • How to replace auto-implemented c# get body at runtime or compile time?

  I've been trying to figure this out all night, but I guess my knowledge of the .Net Framework just isn't that deep and the problem doesn't exactly Google well, but if I can get a nod in the right direction I'm sure I can implement it, one way or another. I'd like to be able to declare a property decorated with a custom attribute as such: public MyClass { [ReplaceWithExpressionFrom(typeof(SomeOtherClass))] public virtual bool MyProperty { get; } } public SomeOtherClass : IExpressionHolder<MyClass, bool> { ... } public interface IExpressionHolder<TArg, TResult> { Expression<Func<TArg, TResult>> Expression { get; } } And then somehow - this is the part I'm having trouble figuring - replace the automatically generated implementation of that getter with a piece of custom code, something like: Type expressionHolderType = LookupAttributeCtorArgTypeInDeclarationOfPropertyWereReplacing(); return ReplaceWithExpressionFromAttribute.GetCompiledExpressionFrom(expressionHolderType)(this); The main thing I'm not sure how to do is replace the automatic implementation of the get. The first thing that came to mind was PostSharp, but that's a more complicated dependency than I care for. I'd much prefer a way to code it without using post-processing attached to the build (I think that's the jist of how PostSharp sinks its hooks in anyway). The other part of this I'm not so sure about is how to retrieve the type parameter passed to the particular instantiation of the ReplaceWithExpressionFrom attribute (where it decorates the property whose body I want to replace; in other words, how do I get typeof(SomeOtherClass) where I'm coding the get body replacement). I plan to cache compiled expressions from concrete instances of IExpressionHolder, as I don't want to do that every time the property gets retrieved. I figure this has just got to be possible. At the very least I figure I should be able to search an assembly for any method decorated with the attribute and somehow proxy the class or just replace the IL or .. something? And I'd like to make the integration as smooth as possible, so if this can be done without explicitly calling a registration or initialization method somewhere that'd be super great. Thanks!

• When do Symfony's user attributes get written to session?

  I have a Symfony app that populates the "widgets" of a portal application and I'm noticing something (that seems) odd. The portal app has iframes that make calls to the Symfony app. On each of those calls, a random user key is passed on the query string. The Symfony app stores that key its session using myUser->setAttribute(). If the incoming value is different from what it has in session, it overwrites the session value. In pseudo-code (and applying a synchronous nature for clarity even though it may not exist): # Widget request arrives with ?foo=bar if the user attribute 'foo' does not equal 'bar' overwrite the user attribute 'foo' with 'bar' end What I'm noticing is that, on a portal page with multiple widgets (read: multiple requests coming in more or less simultaneously) where the value needs to be overwritten, each request is trying to overwrite. Is this a timing problem? When I look at the log prints, I'd expect the first request that arrives to overwrite and subsequent requests to see that the user attribute they received matches what was just put into cache by the initial request. In this scenario, it could be that subsequent requests begin (and are checked) even before the first one--the one that should overwrite the cached value--has completely finished. Are session values not really available to subsequent requests until one request has completed entirely or could there be something else that I'm missing? Thanks.

• Fortran pointer as an argument to interface procedure

  Im trying to use interfaces to call different subroutines with different types, however, it doesnt seem to work when i use the pointer attribute. for example, take this sample code MODULE ptr_types TYPE, abstract :: parent INTEGER :: q END TYPE TYPE, extends(parent) :: child INTEGER :: m END TYPE INTERFACE ptr_interface MODULE PROCEDURE do_something END INTERFACE CONTAINS SUBROUTINE do_something(atype) CLASS(parent), POINTER :: atype ! code determines that this allocation is correct from input ALLOCATE(child::atype) WRITE (*,*) atype%q END SUBROUTINE END MODULE PROGRAM testpass USE ptr_types CLASS(child), POINTER :: ctype CALL ptr_interface(ctype) END PROGRAM This gives error Error: There is no specific subroutine for the generic 'ptr_interface' at (1) however if i remove the pointer attribute in the subroutine it compiles fine. Now, normally this wouldnt be a problem, but for my use case i need to be able to treat that argument as a pointer, mainly so i can allocate it if necessary. Any suggestions? Im sure this is due to restrictions when dealing with the pointer attribute, for type safety, however, im looking for a way to convert a pointer into its parent type for generic allocation. Rather than have to write separate allocation functions for every type and hope they dont collide in an interface or something. hopefully this example will illustrate a little more clearly what im trying to achieve, if you know a better way let me know

• MVC Validator.TryValidateObject does not validate custom atrribute, validateAllProperties = true

  When calling Validator.TryValidateObject with validateAllProperties = true my custom validation attribute does not get triggered. The ValidationResult does not contain an entry for my erroneous property value. • Why is Attributes.IsDefined() missing overloads?

  Inspired by an SO question. The Attribute class has several overloads for the IsDefined() method. Covered are attributes applied to Assembly, Module, MemberInfo, ParameterInfo. The MemberInfo overload covers PropertyInfo, FieldInfo, EventInfo, MethodInfo, ConstructorInfo. That takes care of most of the AttributeTargets. Except for one biggy: there is no overload for Attribute.IsDefined(Type, Type) so that you could check if an attribute is defined on a class. Or a struct, delegate or enum for that matter. Not that this is a real problem, Type.GetCustomAttributes() can fix that. But all of the BlahInfo types have this too. I wonder at the lack of symmetry. I can't put a finger on why this would be problem for Type. Guessing at an inheritance problem doesn't explain it to me. Having ValueType in the mix might be a lead, still doesn't make sense. I don't buy "they forgot", they never do. Why is this overload missing?

But I want to have "new messages" being saved in my XcurrentMsg / Cache. Now if I do not cut this part out, my Application gets awesome crazy. I think it writes infinite elements to the XcurrentMsg without stopping. I can not figure out what's the problem. regards,

• MSCC: Global Windows Azure Bootcamp

  Mauritius participated and contributed to the Global Windows Azure Bootcamp 2014 (GWAB). Again! And this time stronger than ever, and together with 137 other locations in 56 countries world-wide. We had 62 named registrations, 7 guest additions and approximately 10 offline participants prior to the event day. Most interestingly the organisation of the GWAB through the MSCC helped to increased the number of craftsmen. The Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community has currently 138 registered members - in less than one year! Only with those numbers we can proudly say that all the preparations and hard work towards this event already paid off. Personally, I'm really grateful that we had this kind of response and the feedback from some attendees confirmed that the MSCC is on the right track here on Cyber Island Mauritius. Inspired and motivated by the success of this event, rest assured that there will be more public events like the GWAB. This time it took some time to reflect on our meetup, following my first impression right on spot: "Wow, what an experience to organise and participate in this global event. Overall, I've been very pleased with the preparations and the event itself. Surely, there have been some nicks that we have to address and to improve for future activities like this. Quite frankly, we are not professional event organisers (not yet) but we learned a lot over the past couple of days. The sessions We started the day with welcoming speeches by Thierry Coret, Sr. Marketing Manager of Microsoft Indian Ocean Islands & French Pacific and Vidia Mooneegan, Managing Director and Sr. Vice President of Ceridian Mauritius. The clear emphasis was on the endless possibilities of cloud computing and how it can enable any kind of sectors here in the country. Then it was about time to set up the cloud computing services in order to contribute each attendees cloud computing resources to the global research of diabetes, a step by step guide presented by Arnaud Meslier, Technical Evangelist at Microsoft. Given a rendering package and a configuration file it was very interesting to follow the single steps in Windows Azure. Also, during the day we were not sure whether the set up had been correctly, as Mauritius didn't show up on the results board - which should have been the case after approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Anyways, let the minions work... Next, Arnaud gave a brief overview of the variety of services Windows Azure has to offer. Whether you need a development environment for your websites or mobiles app, running a virtual machine with your existing applications or simply putting a SQL database online. No worries, Windows Azure has the right packages available and the online management portal is really easy t handle. After this, we got a little bit more business oriented while Wasiim Hosenbocus, employee at Ceridian, took the attendees through the inerts of a real-life application, and demoed a couple of the existing features. He did a great job by showing how the different services of Windows Azure can be created and pulled together. After the lunch break it is always tough to keep the audience awake... And it was my turn. I gave a brief overview on operating and managing a SQL database on Windows Azure. Well, there are actually two options available and depending on your individual requirements you should be aware of both. The simpler version is called SQL Database and while provisioning only takes a couple of seconds, you should take into consideration that SQL Database has a number of constraints, like limitations on the actual database size - up to 5 GB as web edition and up to 150 GB maximum as business edition -, among others. Next, it was Chervine Bhiwoo's session on Windows Azure Mobile Services. It was absolutely amazing to see that the mobiles services directly offers you various project templates, like Windows 8 Store App, Android app, iOS app, and even Xamarin cross-platform app development. So, within a couple of minutes you can have your first mobile app active and running on Windows Azure. Furthermore, Chervine showed the attendees that adding another user interface, like Web Sites running on ASP.NET MVC 4 only takes a couple of minutes, too. And last but not least, we rounded up the day with Windows Azure Websites and hosting of Virtual Machines presented by some members of the local Microsoft Students Partners programme. Surely, one of the big advantages using Windows Azure is the availability of pre-defined installation packages of known web applications, like WordPress, Joomla!, or Ghost. Compared to running your own web site with a traditional web hoster it is surely en par, and depending on your personal level of expertise, Windows Azure provides you more liberty in terms of configuration than maybe a shared hosting environment. Running a pre-defined web application is one thing but in case that you would like to have more control over your hosting environment it is highly advised to opt for a virtual machine. Provisioning of an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system was very simple to do but it takes some more minutes than you might expect. So, please be patient and take your time while Windows Azure gets everything in place for you. Afterwards, you can use a SecureShell (ssh) client like Putty in case of a Linux-based machine, or Remote Desktop Services when operating a Windows Server system to log in into your virtual machine. At the end of the day we had a great Q&A session and we finalised the event with our raffle of goodies. Participation in the raffle was bound to submission of the session survey and most gratefully we had a give-away for everyone. What a nice coincidence to finish of the day. Furthermore, I had a very good conversation with Thierry and Ludovic of Microsoft IOI & FP on the necessity of user groups and IT communities here on the island. It's great to see that the MSCC is currently on a run and that local companies are sharing our thoughts on promoting IT careers and exchange of IT knowledge in such an open way. I'm also looking forward to be able to participate and to contribute on more events in the near future. My resume of the day We learned a lot today and there is always room for improvement! It was an awesome event and quite frankly it was a pleasure to spend the day with so many enthuastic IT people in the same room. It was a great experience to organise such event locally and participate on a global scale to support the GlyQ-IQ Technology in their research on diabetes. • Cannot SSH after resetting firewall on VPS

  I'm having trouble trying to SSH to my Debian 5 VPS with blacknight. It was working fine until I did the following: Logged into 'Parallels Infrastructure Manager' - Container - Firewall - Set to 'Normal Firewall settings'. It told me there was an error with the IPTables and offered the option again with a checkbox to 'reset' firewall settings, I selected this. I can see that that the default rules are been applied ( anything from anyone on any port and allowing anything to happen). • Configuring OpenLDAP as a Active Directory Proxy

  We try to set up an Active Directory server for company-wide authentication. Some of the servers that should authenticate against the AD are placed in a DMZ, so we thought of using a LDAP-server as a proxy, so that only 1 server in the DMZ has to connect to the LAN where the AD-server is placed). With some googling it was no problem to configure the slapd (see slapd.conf below) and it seemed to work when using the ldapsearch tool, so we tried to use it in apache2 htaccess to authenticate the user over the LDAP-proxy. And here comes the problem: We found out the username in the AD is stored in the attribute 'sAMAccountName' so we configured it in .htaccess (see below) but the login didn't work. In the syslog we found out that the filter for the ldapsearch was not (like it should be) '(&(objectClass=*)(sAMAccountName=authtest01))' but '(&(objectClass=*)(?=undefined))' which we found out is slapd's way to show that the attribute do not exists or the value is syntactically wrong for this attribute. We thought of a missing schema and found the microsoft.schema (and the .std / .ext ones of it) and tried to include them in the slapd.conf. Which does not work. We found no working schemata so we just picked out the part about the sAMAccountName and build a microsoft.minimal.schema (see below) that we included. • Forward Shibboleth Environment Variables to Tomcat via Apache

  I am using Shibbolethv2.3 with Apache web server and Tomcat application server. I am using Apache as a reverse proxy using mod_proxy.so. I am not able to forward the Shibboleth environment variables from Apache to Tomcat. I am able to forward the attributes in the headers but as already mentioned in the wiki this approach is not safe. I have tried forwarding the environment variables by the following directive : SetEnv AJP_username ${username} then at the Java side I can access the attribute by : request.getAttribute("username"); The strange thing here is that, I get a different value instead of the one set by Shibboleth. I get the Windows account name as a result. If I use any other attribute name, I get a null value. I have searched a lot and have run out of options. Please guide me towards the right solution. • Authenticating AIX Users Against OID (Oracle Internet Directory)

  We have a need to authenticate local users on an AIX server against OID using LDAP. We have a branch within OID where we've placed and synchronized Active Directory users. We've also configured external authentication on OID so that it verifies username/passwords against AD. Has anyone configured authentication for AIX in this type of environment? We believe we need to populate unix specific attributes on the user's directory entry in OID, but are unsure which attributes are needed. Additionally, we are looking to authenticate Oracle database users against OID but because of external authentication we are unable to populate the ORCLPASSWORD attribute on the user's directory entry on OID (which is the attribute Oracle is looking for password in). Help with either or both are welcome.

• Powershell script for setting password expiry

  Due to mistakes by the helpdesk staff, I found that over a 100 user accounts in my company AD have been set so that their passwords never expire. To avoid the situation in which all these users suddenly find themselves unable to log in, I want to run a script to set the password expiry to a specified date. I'm using Quest AD cmdlets, but I've only used powershell for simple scripts to get lists of users. The attribute I'm trying to modify is 'PasswordStatus' and I want to set those with this attribute set as "password never expires' to a specific date. Not much of a scripting guy, so any help in this would be most welcome.

• Unable to verify body hash for DKIM

  I'm writing a C# DKIM validator and have come across a problem that I cannot solve. Right now I am working on calculating the body hash, as described in Section 3.7 Computing the Message Hashes. I am working with emails that I have dumped using a modified version of EdgeTransportAsyncLogging sample in the Exchange 2010 Transport Agent SDK. Instead of converting the emails when saving, it just opens a file based on the MessageID and dumps the raw data to disk. (Really, the rules for Body Canonicalization are quite ... simple.) Here is the real DKIM email with a signature using the simple algorithm (with only unneeded headers cleaned up). Now, using the above code and updating the expectedBase64 hash I get the following results: Expected hash: VnGg12/s7xH3BraeN5LiiN+I2Ul/db5/jZYYgt4wEIw= Computed hash: ISNNtgnFZxmW6iuey/3Qql5u6nflKPTke4sMXWMxNUw= Are equal: False The expected hash is the value from the bh= field of the DKIM-Signature header. Now, the file used in the second test is a direct raw output from the Exchange 2010 Transport Agent. If so inclined, you can view the modified EdgeTransportLogging.txt. At this point, no matter how I modify the second email, changing the start position or number of CRLF at the end of the file I cannot get the files to match. What worries me is that I have been unable to validate any body hash so far (simple or relaxed) and that it may not be feasible to process DKIM through Exchange 2010.

• Notepad Automatically Launches Upon Boot Up of my Windows 7 64-Bit Desktop PC

  Around 12 months ago, When my Windows 7 PC boots up, Notepad started to appear automatically on the desktop (as a duplicate ie one on top of the other), both displaying the same writing inside, and the name of the Notepad was: desktop-Notepad. [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 I cant remember the exact details as its been so long now but a friend told me, this was due to a "hidden attribute" belonging to notepad becoming "unhidden"and therefore showing itself on the desktop at startup. He showed me a series of steps to either hide the attribute again or to delete it ( telling me that upon restart of my computer it would be recreated/regenerated.) I did indeed follow his guidance however after trying to hide it or delete it (it was never recreated after restart which supposedly it should have done) One notepad still is autolaunched with the text as shown above everytime I startup my PC. As I found this forum I thought I might try again for a solution to prevent notepad from launching. Thankyou

  The parse_ini_file function removes comments in configuration files. What would you do to keep the comments that are associated with the next line? For example: [email] ; Verify that the email's domain has a mail exchange (MX) record. validate_domain = true Am thinking of using X(HT)ML and XSLT to transform the content into an INI file (so that the documentation and options can be single sourced).
