• resolve access violation exception (0xC0000005) crashing IIS app pool

  IIS 7.5, server 2008 r2, classic asp and asp .net 2.0, 3.5 website same server, same app pool. The past 4 weeks thousands of these errors 'C0000005' are occurring. I know from IIS debug diag tool that 'C0000005' is an access violation error. Below is the top line from my debug diag report. I am in no mans land as I am a developer and not a sys admin but I have to assume many roles. So I'm reaching out for help. Sometimes I will see hundreds of these 'C0000005' scriptengine errors in the event log in a matter of seconds and other times just a few times an hour. I googled this line 'ASP!CACTIVESCRIPTENGINE::GETAPPLICATION' and got nothing. Its like the function don't exist or something. I have spent many hours google-ing to no avail and am now turning to the experts on the forums. Thank you for your help

• SCCM not processing hardware Inventory

  We have some workstations that will not import hardware inventory into the SCCM 2007 database. What I've done: Client - verified workstation object is discovered in SCCM - installed ccm client on workstation - manually ran hardware inventory action - verifed Inventory report was sent successfully "Successfully sent report Destination:mp:MP_HinvEndpoint, ID ..... - watched file on client enter and exit temp folder on client. - successfully ran MP Spy to verify client communicates with server - uninstalled client, deleted ccm and ccmsetup folders and reinstalled. Server - no entries in MP_Hinv.log file that coorespond with time stamp of workstation - no entries in dataldr.log file that coorespond with time stamp of workstation Where are these files going? All T/S blogs expect entries in these logs. This is driving me crazy.

• Minimizing windows to tray in xfce

  For XFCE (v. 4.8), I'm searching for possible options to minimize windows to tray (iconify). This means that 1) they're not in the window listing and 2) they're not in the alt+TAB menu and 3) when closed, the window hides (it disappears from window listing but still stays running). "alltray" has some weird GTK-related bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/alltray/+bug/589831; windows hide but unhiding doesn't do anything; they stay in the tray icon until the user undocks them). "trayer" complains that "another systray is already running" and there's no obvious workaround. This question here is to ask about possible minimalistic (as everything in XFCE is) solutions which don't involve manual compiling, and aren't an overkill like cairo-dock is (a rather bloated gnome-style application which creates a new large 'tray' instead of using the existing one). • Problems with blocking reads using libudev on Linux

  We are using the following routine (on Linux, with libudev) to read data from a PIC microcontroller configured as a USB HID device. The data is sent only when a button connected to the PIC microcontroller is pressed or released. The routine is missing messages from the PIC controller, and I suspect that this is because the call to poll below is not behaving as it should. The call to poll will reliably block for 1 second util the first message is read. As soon as the first message is read, the call to poll returns immediately instead of blocking for 1 second (1000 milliseconds) like it should. I have worked around this problem by closing and re-opening the device after each read. • High fan speed after return from suspend (on Ubuntu)

  Hi, I've got a HP ProBook 5310m laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit). When I return from suspend, the fan speed is usually very high: FDTZ sensor reports "90 °C". Yes, the units are wrong, since FDTZ does not report temperature, but fan speed – that's probably just a small bug in reporting. Interestingly, when I plug or unplug the power cable for a moment, the fan speed returns back to normal. My questions: Where can I report this problem? Is it about ACPI support in the kernel? What is the address of the relevant bug tracker? As a workaround for now, how can I programmatically trigger a behavior equivalent to (un)plugging the power cable. More generally, how can I force ACPI to recalculate fan speed? Ideally, I'm looking for something like echo foo > /proc/bar. Thanks in advance!

• Load balancing using Mina example with Java DSL

  So, recently I started learning Camel. As part of the process I decided to go through all the examples (listed HERE and available when you DOWNLOAD the package with all the examples and docs) and to see what I could learn. One of the examples, Load Balancing using Mina caught my attention because it uses a Mina in different JVM's and it simulates a load balancer with round robin. I have a few problems with this example. First it uses the Spring DSL, instead of the Java DSL which my project uses and which I find a lot easier to understand now (mainly also because I am used to it). So the first question: is there a version of this example using only the Java DSL instead of the Spring DSL for the routes and the beans? My second questions is code related. The description states, and I quote: Within this demo every ten seconds, a Report object is created from the Camel load balancer server. This object is sent by the Camel load balancer to a MINA server where the object is then serialized. One of the two MINA servers (localhost:9991 and localhost:9992) receives the object and enriches the message by setting the field reply of the Report object. The reply is sent back by the MINA server to the client, which then logs the reply on the console. So, from what I read, I understand that the MINA server 1 (per example) receives a report from the loadbalancer, changes it, and then it sends that report back to some invisible client. Upon checking the code, I see no client java class or XML and when I run, the server simply posts the results on the command line. Where is the client ?? What is this client? • How to integrate Thunderbird with SpamAssassin running on the server?

  I'm trying to integrate SpamAssassin running on a server with Thunderbird. Basically I need to be able to select several emails in Thunderbird and send them back to SpamAssassin for training, either as spam or ham. I tried several approaches: Tried "Report Spam" plugin, which is able to send message back to server either as an email attachment or via HTTP post. However, the plugin is rather buggy... Does not support sending several messages at once, "report as ham" is not working at all, etc. Wanted to make a custom button that will copy selected messages to a separate IMAP folder (I could create "LearnAsSpam" and "LearnAsHam" folders in IMAP that will get processed automatically on server), but don't even know how to approach this in Thunderbird, don't want to learn Thunderbird extention authoring... Server-side, I'm prepared to do some custom programming or integration needed (can receive a message via HTTP / SMTP / whatever), my stumbling block is Thunderbird... So, how can I send emails from Thunderbird back to SpamAssassin running on email server for Bayesian training, with as few keystrokes as possible?

• SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle problem

  I've recently installed SSMA on my computer and after connecting to both the Oracle instance (which holds the database to be converted) and the SQL Server. I've mapped the needed schemas from oracle to mssql. The problem is that when i click on the report button for the assessment report there's an error popping up: Assesment Error : Nothing to Process The output window states: Starting conversion... Analyzing metadata... Conversion finished with 0 errors, 0 warnings, and 0 informational messages. There is nothing to process. Has anyone got experience with SSMA. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

• Download rates of torrents through µTorrent and FlashGet are suddenly limited

  Both µTorrent and FlashGet are being throttled and I don't know why or how. I use both and they usually report a download speed of 70kbps for torrent speed. FlashGet would report a speed of 70kbps yet actually download at another speed which is about the same as the actual which is a consisten 70kbps. Now, all of a sudden, my torrent downloads are only up to 20kbps. FlashGet still shows a reading of 70kbps, maybe even 80kbps. But, the average actual speed of download is really only 20kbps. I am using Windows 7 on my laptop and no matter where the internet is coming it's the same thing. I have no idea what could be limiting my download rates.

• FTP proxy that translates from passive to active

  Is it possible to install a proxy server that will transform passive ftp to active ftp? Details of my problem: I would like to deploy my web sites using Visual Studio's built in publish web site function. The problem is that my web hotel only supports active ftp, and unfortunately Visual Studio 2010 has a bug, so the publish function only works with passive ftp. My idear is to install a tiny local ftp proxy, that is able to transform passive ftp mode to active mode. I would then enter localhost as the publish server in Visual Studio, and the proxy would do the actual uploading of the files to my web hotel. • SSRS Errors "Use Local", even though I am

  I am at a loss. I posted this on SO, but think this is probably a better place. I have searched high and low and don't know what to do. I am running SQL Server Web Edition on Server 2008, which only supports local databases. I am trying to connect to localhost, but when I test my connection, I get this error. The feature: "The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. The DB was upgraded from SQL Express and when I select @@version, it says it's Web Edition. I've tried rebooting and that seemed to fix it, but only for a little while.

• Odd SVN Checkout failures occur frequenctly on VMWare virtual machines

  We've recently been experiencing seemingly random SVN checkout failures on our Hudson build system. Google search has failed me; I'm hoping the super user community can help me out :-) We are occasionally receiving the following SVN error when our Hudson build jobs checkout source via the Hudson Subversion plug-in (which uses svn kit): ERROR: Failed to check out http://server/svnroot/trunk org.tmatesoft.svn.core.SVNException: svn: Processing REPORT request response failed: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity. (/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default) svn: REPORT request failed on '/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default' This issue seems to only occur when checking out from our Virtual Machines (Windows XP, Fedora 9, Fedora 12) using Hudson's SVN Plug-in. Systems that use the traditional SVN client seem to work. SVN Server version: 1.6.6 Hudson version: 1.377 Hudson SVN Plugin Version: 1.17 Has anyone dealt with this issue, or have any suggestions? • Macro - maintain paste link if new row is added to master spreadsheet

  I have a master spreadsheet that has a portion of data (say columns a to e) that paste links to a report. Each row paste links to its own report. If I add a new row to the master spreadsheet I now have the wrong data linking into my reports. I know if I have the reports open when a change is made to the master it will update the reports. However, with the number of reports I will soon have this will no longer be practical. Is there a macro or formula that can be added to maintain the correct data link. I have no real knowledge on such matters and as much information as possible would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

  "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Paint.exe" -autocheck is added to the registry every time its removed. This is like global. All the lab PCs(more than a hundred), personal laptops have this file. I really have no expert help to turn to.. as jotti says this file is clean. Here's the dropped file [removed] It seems that we all had this game cheating tool on our PCs called "Garena Maphack". Everytime it was run it would drop paint.exe into the system dir. Paint.exe is diguised as the real paint.exe from windows. Having the same icon and such. • Setting thresholds via smartd.conf

  Hello! We currently use smartd to monitor SMART health on our disks. I would like to set the 'thresholds' that smartd uses to report. For example: 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 9 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0010 100 100 000 Old_age Offline - 9 I would like to be able to set a threshold for these two attributes to only report if they are above 10. I haven't been able to find a way to set this via smartd.conf, and I'm also not looking to actually shutdown the daemon. Has anyone ever tried this, or know how I might be able to accomplish this better then throwing a script into cron.hourly?

• Accept and Decline button missing in thunderbird when receiving an invitation

  I'm using Thunderbird 12.0.1 with the following add-ons for the calendar : Lightning 1.4 Provider for Google calendar 0.9 I'm working with Ubuntu 12.04 My problem is when I receive an event invitation from outlook or gmail, the mail is correctly identified by Thunderbird (I have the message "this message contains an invitation to an event"). In the pretty little box in the mail (the one which contains all the details), there is no "Accpet" or "Decline" button... I found on the Lightning forum that this bug was fixed in Lightning V.1.0b2 So my question is : why do I still have this bug ??? Best regards

• Random BSOD ntoskrnl.exe (Windows 7)

  I get BSOD at random times and have been for a while now on my Windows 7 machine. It is really new, and I already tried wiping the graphic card drivers and installing them again (making sure that they are of course up to date). I get a variety of bug check strings on a few different drivers. The single file that is in all of my BSODs is ntoskrnl.exe Bug Check Strings - SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION - KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA I would rather not resort to getting a completely new PC, as I have already thrown a lot of money on my current one. • ODBC in SSIS 2012

  In August 2011 the SQL Server client team published a blog post entitled Microsoft is Aligning with ODBC for Native Relational Data Access in which they basically said "OLE DB is the past, ODBC is the future. Deal with it.". From that blog post:We encourage you to adopt ODBC in the development of your new and future versions of your application. You don’t need to change your existing applications using OLE DB, as they will continue to be supported on Denali throughout its lifecycle. While this gives you a large window of opportunity for changing your applications before the deprecation goes into effect, you may want to consider migrating those applications to ODBC as a part of your future roadmap.I recently undertook a project using SSIS2012 and heeded that advice by opting to use ODBC Connection Managers rather than OLE DB Connection Managers. Unfortunately my finding was that the ODBC Connection Manager is not yet ready for primetime use in SSIS 2012. The main issue I found was that you can't populate an Object variable with a recordset when using an Execute SQL Task connecting to an ODBC data source; any attempt to do so will result in an error:"Disconnected recordsets are not available from ODBC connections." I have filed a bug on Connect at ODBC Connection Manager does not have same funcitonality as OLE DB. For this reason I strongly recommend that you don't make the move to ODBC Connection Managers in SSIS just yet - best to wait for the next version of SSIS before doing that.I found another couple of issues with the ODBC Connection Manager that are worth keeping in mind:It doesn't recognise System Data Source Names (DSNs), only User DSNs (bug filed at ODBC System DSNs are not available in the ODBC Connection Manager)  UPDATE: According to a comment on that Connect item this may only be a problem on 64bit.In the OLE DB Connection Manager parameter ordinals are 0-based, in the ODBC Connection Manager they are 1-based (oh I just can't wait for the upgrade mess that ensues from this one!!!)You have been warned!@jamiet
