In the game, you can fall forever, and the wall will keep spanning. I can fall as long as I like, and still be able to climb back to where I was before. The game is developed in Unity. How can a game do this without crashing, or creating some kind of memory overload?

  • GUI won't load, but the desktop background loads. Can't access the terminal

    Having trouble with the Ubuntu GUI. I can log in just fine (see this)... everything looks normal there. But as soon as I put in my password, I get this. I tried a few different troubleshooting keyboard commands (ctrl+alt+t, crtl+alt+delete), and only the latter worked. I can interact with that window just fine, except I am unable to resize or move it. The first time I logged in, I got a dialog box that said, "Ubuntu has experienced an internal error. Send error report?" Doesn't say anything now. Yes I tried restarting it. Thanks a bunch, Michael EDIT: Trying to start a guest session leads to the same problem.

    This may seen like a weird question, but since we're challenged--as engineers--to constantly adapt to changing technologies, we always find ourselves buried in documentation. That said, we also need to consider that time is of the essence because people want their stuff fixed and improved with little hesitation if any. How do you get through lengthy manuals, books/manuals within a short period of time? Take for example: "The Linux Programming Interface," by Michael Kerrisk, which is roughly 1500 pages in length. How would you get through a monster of a book like this if you're pressed for time while still learning most of the material?

    In command line I wrote: michael@ubuntu:~$ firefox Firefox launched. Command prompt ($) disappeared. Then I pressed ^+z. The result was: [1]+ Stopped firefox Well, Firefox really stopped. It did not react anyhow. So, I could not close it by pressing the cross of the window. By the way, the menu items 'Tools', and 'Help' somehow showed some signs of life. They showed drop-down lists, but nothing more (no reaction to inner menu items). Well, I could not end Firefox through System Monitor. Could you comment on this case: what happened after pressing ^+z?

    If I use this code: using (StreamWriter streamWriter = new StreamWriter("Content/player.txt", true)) { streamWriter.Write("Hello!"); streamWriter.Close(); } The program will not actually add "Hello!" to the file. However, if I use this code: using (StreamWriter streamWriter = new StreamWriter("C:/Users/Michael/Documents/Visual Studio 2010/Projects/PuzzleGame/PuzzleGame/PuzzleGameContent/player.TXT", true)) { streamWriter.Write("Hello!"); streamWriter.Close(); } The program will work as intended and add "Hello!" to the save file. Is there any way I can do this without hardcoding the path?

  • WPF TreeView similar to Organizational chart with connecting lines

    I have modified my treeview to look like an Org chart using the example shown in the Code Project website (Author Josh Smith). I need connecting lines in the treeview to make it look exact to org chart. I found references pointing to the below site http://wpfblog.info/2008/05/26/turning-a-treeview-into-an-org-chart-with-connectors/ But I am not able to view the content.   • Binding to a dictionary in Silverlight with INotifyPropertyChanged

    In silverlight, I can not get INotifyPropertyChanged to work like I want it to when binding to a dictionary. In the example below, the page binds to the dictionary okay but when I change the content of one of the textboxes the CustomProperties property setter is not called. The CustomProperties property setter is only called when CustomProperties is set and not when the values within it are set. I am trying to do some validation on the dictionary values and so am looking to run some code when each value within the dictionary is changed. Is there anything I can do here?   • Illegal Character when trying to compile java code

    I have a program that allows a user to type java code into a rich text box and then compile it using the java compiler. Whenever I try to compile the code that I have written I get an error that says that I have an illegal character at the beginning of my code that is not there.   • Comparing strings with user-created string class

    Basically, I created my own string class, mystring.h and mystring.c. What I want to do is write a function that compares two "strings" and then returns 1 first word is larger than the second, the opposite if word 2 is larger than word 1, and 0 if the two words are equal.     So I'm have a really hard time figuring out when I should be attaching to an object and when I shouldn't be attaching to an object. First thing's first, here is a small diagram of my (very simplified) object model. Say, for instance, I want to save a new user. In my business layer I create a new user. var user = new User(); user.FirstName = "Bob"; user.LastName = "Smith"; user.Username = "bob.smith"; user.Password = StringUtilities.EncodePassword("MyPassword123"); user.Organization = someOrganization; // Assume that someOrganization was loaded and it's data context has been garbage collected. Now I want to go save this user. var userRepository = new RepositoryFactory.GetRepository<UserRepository>(); userRepository.Save(user); Neato! Here is my save logic: public void Save(User user) { if (!DataContext.Users.Contains(user)) { user.Id = Guid.NewGuid(); user.CreatedDate = DateTime.Now; user.Disabled = false; //DataContext.Organizations.Attach(user.Organization); DataContext.Users.InsertOnSubmit(user); } else { DataContext.Users.Attach(user); } DataContext.SubmitChanges(); // Finished here as well. user.Detach(); } So, here we are. You'll notice that I comment out the bit where the DataContext attachs to the organization. If I attach to the organization I get the following exception: NotSupportedException: An attempt has been made to Attach or Add an entity that is not new, perhaps having been loaded from another DataContext. This is not supported. Hmm, that doesn't work. Let me try it without attaching (i.e. comment out that line about attaching to the organization). DuplicateKeyException: Cannot add an entity with a key that is already in use. WHAAAAT? I can only assume this is trying to insert a new organization which is obviously false. So, what's the deal guys? What should I do? What is the proper approach? It seems like L2S makes this quite a bit harder than it should be...

If a user searches for a name on my website - say "Jamie Smith" - I want to pass this name to facebook and find all users that match that name - so if I can get back their photo and name to display on my site - so users can identify the right person.
