• laptop screen goes blank after waking from sleep

  I have been facing this issue from the last week after some update. Whenever my laptop wakes up from suspend state it just shows me a blank screen. Regardless of whatever I do(move my mouse, press keyboard buttons) it just refuses to wake up. I am forced to do a restart and lose all my unsaved files. Has this issue been reported for Ubuntu 12.04? I am using a Lenovo X200 with Intel Mobile 4 Series Graphics Chipset. Please let me know if any body has found a fix for this.

• Ubuntu freezing after boot

  I have ubuntu 12.04 LTS dual booting with windows 7 on my laptop without any problems and felt like doing the same on my desktop. However now that I have installed Ubuntu on the desktop through Wubi, if I boot into ubuntu the log in screen is as far as I get. I see my username and the password box but everything is completely unresponsive. I can move the mouse around the screen fine I just can't click on anything and the keyboard doesn't seem to work at all as I've tried a few shortcuts and there's no response at all. I have done a some searches and I think it's a driver issue but I don't know how to fix them as I'm pretty new to ubuntu and cannot log in at all. Desktop specs if needed: Intel core i7 2700k, NVidia GTX 580, 8GB RAM. Thanks in advance

• Installing programs from a download

  Hello, my name is Anthony and I'm new to Ubuntu and any other Linux OS for that matter. My question concerns downloading a program, and then installing it. The program is called Remotedroid, it lets you use your phone as a wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm use to windows automatically starting setup upon download and cant figure out how to initiate the install in Ubuntu. The programs website says its compatible with Linux OS and the readme file says to just click the extension remotedroidserver.jar to use, but it wont work and none of the files do anything. I've unzipped all the files and my Java is all up to date as far as i know, I think. I'm just not getting how to run a setup in Ubuntu. I looked around this site for the answer but came up with nothing so if someone could maybe offer some insight I would be grateful. Thank you.

• Rails + Passenger CSS problem

  I'm trying to deploy my first Rails app. At first, I was getting the following error: ActionView::TemplateError (Permission denied) I set the permissions of the stylesheets folder to 777 (just for now until I work out what's going wrong) and the application started to work. However, it is not picking up any of the stylesheets (everything is displayed in plain text). If I view the source code and click the CSS links, I just get a blank page. Javascripts however, seem to be working just fine. VHost Config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName xxxx.xxx.com DocumentRoot /home/myapp/public <Directory /home/myapp/public> Allow from All AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Can anyone help? • Really, Mobile Devices will Take Over the World?

  My blog has been quiet for quite a while. My inspiration comes from crunching/exchanging information which I should do more often. Gartner analysis tells us that by 2013 mobile phones will overtake PC’s as the most common Web access device worldwide. A few years back I would have said non sense, but apparently most Web users are comfortable with less processing power. Just take a look at the increasing business in Netbooks. Wouldn’t it be great to have a mobile phone which can connect wirelessly to my home TV, monitor, car display, mouse, keyboard, etc? And to have the processing power of the current Netbook generation? Where can I buy it? Why are we making our PC devices (for instance the slate) smaller while we can make our mobile device’s functionality bigger? What about the single responsibility principle? Does it apply to physical devices as well as good object-oriented software?

• WPF Books in 2010

  I'm looking to learn WPF, and I'd like to get a book to help in the process. Most of the popular questions on SO regarding actual books are from 2008, and I wanted to see if recommendations for books had changed at all. WPF Unleashed, which seems to be the most popular recommendation, was published in 2006, which is quite a while ago, with the lightening-quick pace that Microsoft has been following with .NET. Does this book still work? For some background, I'm a web developer (using MVC, so MVVM makes sense to me conceptually), looking to make the jump to desktop development. I did C# a while ago, but I'll be picking up a separate C# book to get up to speed on that. I am not interested in Silverlight. I am not necessarily interested in flashy UIs right now, as I'm working on business software but what I am interested in is good, clean, intuitive user interfaces.

• Rotate 2d sprite towards pointer

  I'm using Crafty.js and am trying to point a sprite towards the mouse pointer. I have a function for getting the degree between two points and I'm pretty sure it works mathematically (I have it under unit tests). At least it responds that the degree between { 0,0} and {1,1} is 45, which seems right. However, when I set the sprite rotation to the returned degree, it's just wrong all the time. If I manually set it to 90, 45, etc, it gets the right direction.. I have a jsfiddle that shows what I've done so far. Any ideas?

  I tried with below example, it is working fine. I expected it to pick sub-class's value since object won't be created for super class (as it is abstract). But it is picking up super class's field value only. • VirtualBox VERR_ACCESS_DENIED for Ubuntu 11.10

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on VBox. The VBox settings I use have been tried and proven for countless other installs I have done in the past. Those are still up and running. On my latest install of Ubuntu 11.10 on Vbox, things were working well in the initially - I installed Guest Additions and everything was fine. All of a sudden (I was just moving my mouse), I get an accessed denied error that freezes my entire Ubuntu environment. I close the virtual machine and restart it, but now I keep getting this error message: Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• configuring separate X screens instead of TwinView

  My Sony Vaio laptop is connected to an external Samsung monitor and my nVidia driver is configured in TwinView mode. Everything is OK with this, however, I can not adjust my displays individually so at the moment my external display is a little bit darker which disturbs me a lot. I tried the Separate X Screen mode but after restart, my laptop display was white with a black x sign mouse pointer and the external display normal desktop. Is it a bug or something I missed? The idea is that using Separate X Screen mode, I could adjust my displays individually. I would really appreciate someone would guide me out of this situation. Thanx in adv..

  My laptop has both wireless and a wired connection capabilities. Can I connect to a router A using wireless and a separate router B using wired ethernet at the same time without having to switch back and forth? Thanks for replying so quickly. I wish to connect to two separate networks. The wireless connection is to router A which is connected to broadband internet. The wired connection is to router B which I wish to share files and a printer on 1 or 2 other desktops also using wired connections on B and maybe using synergy to have only one keyboard and mouse for 2 desktops. • Splice gives blank screen on startup

  I just installed splice from the humble bundle, and I get a blank screen on startup. I can hear the audio, and if I move my mouse around, I can hear the menu items or something changing. I have an amd radeon HD5800 series. I'm using the fglrx-updates driver on 12.10, fully updated. Any ideas of things to try? Full screen or windowed, I get a blank window. Also, other GL games are running just fine.

• Core Data No Longer Updating Sqlite Schema

  I am using core data for my app and I never had any problems adding or removing columns until recently. But now even if I make changes to my xcdatamodel and generate new and updated entity h/m files, sqlite doesn't seem to be picking up the changes. I actually went over to the documents folder and inspected the create statement for the relevant tables in sqlite3 and I was able to confirm that the columns I added were missing. I removed and redeployed the app several times to no avail. Is it possible to do something to the app to make it disregard any schema changes being made through xcdatamodel? I guess another thing I should mention is I recently started putting my entire projects folder in CVS so I wonder if something got messed up in the checkin and check out process.

  I am facing a problem and it is in Ubuntu (14.04) permanent scroll bar is not there but it appears when you move the mouse pointer to right most side or bottom most side. But it is very difficult to use and lately it takes too much to appear and sometimes it doesn't appear at all and so i have to close the application and reopen it. So i want to ask how to enable permanent scroll bars on right side and bottom most side. I am sure many people must have faced this problem before me. Thanks. • how to focus the desktop on unity

  I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 (unity 4.24.0) and I can't seem to focus the desktop. For example, if I press Mod4+D, the window I had opened stays focused, but the image is see is my wallpaper. If I minimize all windows one by one, the last window I minimize is still focused when the desktop finally appears. This means I can't add desktop icons, nor use the mouse in it. I thought about reporting a bug, but everything works fine on other computers with the latest version of Ubuntu I've used, so I'm wondering about what's happening. Before, when I pressed Mod4+D, the Unity Top Menu would say "Desktop - File Edit ..." and I could use the desktop properly. Thanks in advance!

• Only can move the pointer after upgrading

  I made a partition on my desktop pc, 100 GB and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. It was pretty slow first thought it had to install updates or something, so I rebooted it. Now after the login it looks like everything freezes, I can move my mouse only, but that's it! I can see my desktop and launcher, but the task bar doesn't display time and misc system info, only a black bar, I downloaded the Android SDK pack and installed vlc media player before I rebooted. My computer info: 1 TB HDD 8 GB ddr3 RAM ATI Radeon 4890 videocard (1 GB) AMD Phenom 2 x4 black 3, 2ghz CPU (64 bits)

  Am trying to install ubuntu 12.04 on a pentium 4 with a hard disk that's been totally wiped clean. Have made an iso image, burned it on a cd and it has been verified. Checked to see if separate files have been burned on cd and they have. When I boot to the disk I get the word unbuntu with some progress dots, 5 min later it goes to a red screen with the mouse arrow on screen. It has stayed in this condition for over half an hour now. • Subprocess with variables & Command from different class

As you can see below what i mean class Controller: def __init__(self): self.model = Model() self.view = View() def main(self): data = self.model.filename() self.view.tcpdump(data) class View: def tcpdump(self, command): subprocess.call(command.split(), shell=False) When i run my code i get this error: subprocess.call(command.split(), shell=False) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'split' My guess means that its not picking up command (look at source for reference) or that its not getting command with variables. But i know the error when variables are not being picked up so i don't think it is that. • Moving from dedicated to shared cpanel - any scripts to do all / some of the install tasks ?

  Hi, I have a few hundred phpld sites to move - each has its own cpanel, ( & the target may have shared cpanel) & I can do a full cpanel backup on the original server, but I don't have whm on the current host - the backups are fairly easy to organize but the installs so far means picking through files & setting up db's & mail etc by hand - I am thinking there ought to be an easier ie scripted way to do the installs or at least some parts - can anyone please suggest something ? I would like to migrate the stats at the same time Thanks M

• How to make Ubuntu 14.04 run with less lag?

  I recently updated from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS and for the first time it worked! However, whenever I move my mouse over an application icon on the unity shell, the animation takes forever to show me what the name of the application is ( A.k.a the tooltip ). The same happens with menus and sub-menus. Other than that, it is overall in general, slow. I just want to know if there are any tips to fix this or make my system faster.
