  • Tinting iPhone application screen red

    - by btschumy
I'm trying to place a red tint on all the screens of my iPhone application. I've experimented on a bitmap and found I get the effect I want by compositing a dark red color onto the screen image using Multiply (kCGBlendModeMultiply). So the question is how to efficiently do this in real time on the iPhone? One dumb way might be to grab a bitmap of the current screen, composite into the bitmap and then write the composited bitmap back to the screen. This seems like it would almost certainly be too slow. In addition, I need some way of knowing when part of the screen has been redrawn so I can update the tinting. I can almost get the effect I want by putting a red, translucent, fullscreen UIView above everything. That tints everything red within further intervention on my part, but the effect is much "muddier" than results from the composite. So do any wizards out there know of some mechanism I can use to automatically composite the red over the app in similar fashion to what the translucent red UIView does?

  • Cocoa - NSFileManager removeItemAtPath Not Working

    - by Kevin
Hey there everyone, I am trying to delete a file, but somehow nsfilemanager will not allow me to do so. I do use the file in one line of code, but once that action has been ran, I want the file deleted. I have logged the error code and message and I get error code: 4 and the message: "text.txt" could not be removed Is there a way to fix this error "cleanly" (without any hacks) so that apple will accept this app onto their Mac App Store? EDIT: This is what I am using: [[NSFileManager defaultManager] removeItemAtPath:filePath error:NULL]; Thanks, kevin

  • iPad keyboard will not dismiss if navigation controller presentation style is "form sheet".

    - by Kalle
    UPDATE: This is apparently "works as intended" classed by Apple. See accepted answer below for details. Update: this question is about a behavior discovered in the iPad keyboard, where it refuses to be dismissed if shown in a modal dialog with a navigation controller. Basically, if I present the navigation controller with the following line: navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; The keyboard refuses to be dismissed. If I comment out this line, the keyboard goes away fine. ... I've got two textFields, username and password; username has a Next button and password has a Done button. The keyboard won't go away if I present this in a modal navigation controller. WORKS broken *b = [[broken alloc] initWithNibName:@"broken" bundle:nil]; [self.view addSubview:b.view]; DOES NOT WORK broken *b = [[broken alloc] initWithNibName:@"broken" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:b]; navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; navigationController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; [navigationController release]; [b release]; If I remove the navigation controller part and present 'b' as a modal view controller by itself, it works. Is the navigation controller the problem? WORKS broken *b = [[broken alloc] initWithNibName:@"broken" bundle:nil]; b.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:b animated:YES]; [b release]; WORKS broken *b = [[broken alloc] initWithNibName:@"broken" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:b]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; [navigationController release]; [b release];

  • Simplest way to use NSTableView?

    - by Nick Brooks
Can I use NSTableView like I've used ListView in Windows? By that I mean JUST adding rows to the view. I need to display a very simple two columned table and I don't want to write all this data related crap. Can I just 'add' stuff to a table view? If not what is the simplest way to do what I'm trying to do (preferably without data sources)?

  • Issues dismissing keyboard conditionally with on iPhone

    - by Chris
I have an app that has a username and password field. I want to validate the input before the the user is allowed to stop editing the field. To do that, I'm using the textFieldShouldEndEditing delegate method. If the input doesn't validate I display a UIAlertView. This approach works as advertised - the user cannot leave the field if the input doesn't validate. To have the done button on the keyboard dismiss the keyboard, I call resignFirstResponder on the textfield. The issue I have is the alert is being called twice. How do I keep the alert from showing twice?

  • UILabel: Using the userInteractionEnabled method on a label

    - by Kevin Bomberry
Hello again. I am wondering if anyone has used the userInteractionEnabled method on a UILabel to allow the label to act like a button (or just to fire off a method). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! Update (4/30/09 @1:07pm) Clarification: I have a standard InfoButton and next to it I want to place a label with the text "settings" and I would like the label to function like the button (which flips over to a settings screen. So, basically I need to tie the already defined showSettinsView to the "infoLabel" label; a user clicks on the infoButton or infoLabel and the method fires off. The infoButton is already working and is using an IBAction to trigger the method. I would like to know how to wire up the label to implement the same method. That is all. Cheers!

  • Pressing UIBarButtonItem on a NavigationController

    - by john
Hey I've added a button the my navigation bar like so: UIBarButtonItem *anotherButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Edit" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(methodtocall:)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = anotherButton; [anotherButton release]; However when I press this I get a InvalidArgumentException. This is in a brand new navigation project. Does anyone know why I get this behaviour?

  • Popping multiple levels in UITableViewController

    - by LavaSlider
I would like to be able to pop multiple views from a UITableViewController stack. For example in the Apple DrillDownSave example, when viewing Level 3 to go back to Level 1 or when viewing an Item to go back to Level 2 when a button is pushed. I tried: [self.navigationController.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; and [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; [self.navigationController.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; but these leave me the same place as just a single popViewControllerAnimated:. Is there an easy way to do this?

  • How to dynamically replace a method implement in ObjC2?

    - by Abhi
I am trying to learn how to write plugins using SIMBL. I got my plugin to load with the target application, and also know the method that I wish to override. However, I am not able to use class_getInstanceMethod correctly based on snippets on the Internet. Have things changed in OSX 10.6 and/or ObjC2? The following code from culater.net gives "Dereferencing pointer to incomplete type": BOOL DTRenameSelector(Class _class, SEL _oldSelector, SEL _newSelector) { Method method = nil; // First, look for the methods method = class_getInstanceMethod(_class, _oldSelector); if (method == nil) return NO; method->method_name = _newSelector; return YES; } Is there a complete example of how to override a method using SIMBL plugins? Thanks!

  • TTThumbView/TTPhotoView no autorotation

    - by ludo
Hi, In my app I try to use the TTphotoView, so in a ViewController I push the TTphotoView with my navigationController like this: if(self.photoViewController == nil { PhotoViewController *viewController = [[PhotoViewController alloc] init]; self.photoViewController = viewController; viewController.hidesBottomBarWhenPushed = YES; [viewController release]; } [self.navigationController pushViewController:self.photoViewController animated:YES]; [self.navigationController  dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES] the problem is when the user rotate the device on the PhotoViewController nothing happen. EDIT : I can't believe people didn't have the same problem. If someone use the photoView in his application with his own navigation and not the TTNavigation can he tell me how did he push the ViewController?

  • NSLinguisticTagger on the contents of an NSTextStorage- crashing bug

    - by Remy Porter
I'm trying to use an NSLinguisticTagger to monitor the contents of an NSTextStorage and provide some contextual information based on what the user types. To that end, I have an OverlayManager object, which wires up this relationship: -(void) setView:(NSTextView*) view { _view = view; _layout = view.layoutManager; _storage = view.layoutManager.textStorage; //get the TextStorage from the view [_tagger setString:_storage.string]; //pull the string out, this grabs the mutable version [self registerForNotificationsOn:self->_storage]; //subscribe to the willProcessEditing notification } When an edit occurs, I make sure to trap it and notify the tagger (and yes, I know I'm being annoyingly inconsistent with member access, I'm rusty on Obj-C, I'll fix it later): - (void) textStorageWillProcessEditing:(NSNotification*) notification{ if ([self->_storage editedMask] & NSTextStorageEditedCharacters) { NSRange editedRange = [self->_storage editedRange]; NSUInteger delta = [self->_storage changeInLength]; [_tagger stringEditedInRange:editedRange changeInLength:delta]; //should notify the tagger of the changes [self highlightEdits:self]; } } The highlightEdits message delegates the job out to a pool of "Overlay" objects. Each contains a block of code similar to this: [tagger enumerateTagsInRange:range scheme:NSLinguisticTagSchemeLexicalClass options:0 usingBlock:^(NSString *tag, NSRange tokenRange, NSRange sentenceRange, BOOL *stop) { if (tag == PartOfSpeech) { [self applyHighlightToRange:tokenRange onStorage:storage]; } }]; And that's where the problem is- the enumerateTagsInRange method crashes out with a message: 2014-06-04 10:07:19.692 WritersEditor[40191:303] NSMutableRLEArray replaceObjectsInRange:withObject:length:: Out of bounds This problem doesn't occur if I don't link to the mutable copy of the underlying string and instead do a [[_storage string] copy], but obviously I don't want to copy the entire backing store every time I want to do tagging. This all should be happening in the main run loop, so I don't think this is a threading issue. The NSRange I'm enumerating tags on exists both in the NSTextStorage and in the NSLinguisticTagger's view of the string. It's not even the fact that the applyHighlightToRange call adds attributes to the string, because it crashes before even reaching that line. I attempted to build a test case around the problem, but can't replicate it in those situations: - (void) testEdit { NSAttributedString* str = [[NSMutableAttributedString alloc] initWithString:@"Quickly, this is a test."]; text = [[NSTextStorage alloc] initWithAttributedString:str]; NSArray* schemes = [NSLinguisticTagger availableTagSchemesForLanguage:@"en"]; tagger = [[NSLinguisticTagger alloc] initWithTagSchemes:schemes options:0]; [tagger setString:[text string]]; [text beginEditing]; [[text mutableString] appendString:@"T"]; NSRange edited = [text editedRange]; NSUInteger length = [text changeInLength]; [text endEditing]; [tagger stringEditedInRange:edited changeInLength:length]; [tagger enumerateTagsInRange:edited scheme:NSLinguisticTagSchemeLexicalClass options:0 usingBlock:^(NSString *tag, NSRange tokenRange, NSRange sentenceRange, BOOL *stop) { //doesn't matter, this should crash }]; } That code doesn't crash.

  • Admob banner not getting remove from superview

    - by Gamer
I am developing one 2d game using cocos2d framework, in this game i am using admob for advertising, in some classes not in all classes but admob banner is visible in every class and after some time game getting crash also. I am not getting how admob banner is comes in every class in fact i have not declare in Rootviewcontroller class. can any one suggest me how to integrate Admob in cocos2d game, i want Admob banner in particular classes not in every class, I am using latest google admob sdk, my code is below: Thanks in advance ` -(void)AdMob{ NSLog(@"ADMOB"); CGSize winSize = [[CCDirector sharedDirector]winSize]; // Create a view of the standard size at the bottom of the screen. if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad){ bannerView_ = [[GADBannerView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(size.width/2-364, size.height - GAD_SIZE_728x90.height, GAD_SIZE_728x90.width, GAD_SIZE_728x90.height)]; } else { // It's an iPhone bannerView_ = [[GADBannerView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(size.width/2-160, size.height - GAD_SIZE_320x50.height, GAD_SIZE_320x50.width, GAD_SIZE_320x50.height)]; } if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) { bannerView_.adUnitID =@"a15062384653c9e"; } else { bannerView_.adUnitID =@"a15062392a0aa0a"; } bannerView_.rootViewController = self; [[[CCDirector sharedDirector]openGLView]addSubview:bannerView_]; [bannerView_ loadRequest:[GADRequest request]]; GADRequest *request = [[GADRequest alloc] init]; request.testing = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: GAD_SIMULATOR_ID, nil]; // Simulator [bannerView_ loadRequest:request]; } //best practice for removing the barnnerView_ -(void)removeSubviews{ NSArray* subviews = [[CCDirector sharedDirector]openGLView].subviews; for (id SUB in subviews){ [(UIView*)SUB removeFromSuperview]; [SUB release]; } NSLog(@"remove from view"); } //this makes the refreshTimer count -(void)targetMethod:(NSTimer *)theTimer{ //INCREASE OF THE TIMER AND SECONDS elapsedTime++; seconds++; //INCREASE OF THE MINUTOS EACH 60 SECONDS if (seconds>=60) { seconds=0; minutes++; [self removeSubviews]; [self AdMob]; } NSLog(@"TIME: %02d:%02d", minutes, seconds); } `

  • Change classes instantiated with loadNibNamed

    - by Nick H247
I am trying to change the class of objects created with a nib with the iPhone SDK. The reason for this is; i dont know until runtime what the class is that i want the nib object to be (though they will have the same UIView based super class), and i dont want to create a different nib for every eventuality - as the .nib will be the same for each, apart from the class of one object. I have been successful, with a couple of methods, but either have some knock on effects or am unsure of how safe the methods I have used are: Method 1: Override alloc, on the super class and set a c variable to the class I require: + (id) alloc { if (theClassIWant) { id object = [theClassIWant allocWithZone:NSDefaultMallocZone()]; theClassIWant = nil; return object; } return [BaseClass allocWithZone:NSDefaultMallocZone()]; } this works well, and i assume is 'reasonably' safe, though if I alloc a subclass myself (without setting 'theClassIWant') - an object of the base class is created. I also dont really like the idea of overriding alloc... Method 2: use object_setClass(self,theClassIWant) in initWithCoder (before calling initWithCoder on the super class): - (id) initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)aDecoder { if (theClassIWant) { // the framework doesn't like this: //[self release]; //self = [theClassIWant alloc]; // whoa now! object_setClass(self,theClassIWant); theClassIWant = nil; return [self initWithCoder:aDecoder]; } if (self = [super initWithCoder:aDecoder]) { ... this also works well, but not all the subclasses are necessarily going to be the same size as the super class, so this could be very unsafe! To combat this i tried releasing and re-allocing to the correct type within initWithCoder, but i got the following error from the framework: "This coder requires that replaced objects be returned from initWithCoder:" dont quite get what this means! i am replacing an object in initWithCoder... Any comments on the validity of these methods, or suggestions of improvements or alternatives welcome!

How can I prevent this?

  • Getting random objects from an array, and if the objects are the same, get a new object.

    - by XcodeDev
    Hi, I have made a jokes application, where the user generates a joke and the joke will display in a UILabel. However I am trying to randomise the jokes show, but I do not want to show the same joke twice. Please could you tell me how I could do this. I am using the code below to try and do that, but it seems that it is not working. - (IBAction)generateNewJoke { if (i < [jokeArray count]) { i++; [userDefaults setInteger:[userDefaults integerForKey:kNewIndex] forKey:kOldIndex]; int oldnumber = [userDefaults integerForKey:kOldIndex]; int newnumber = [userDefaults integerForKey:kNewIndex]; [answerLabel setText:@""]; [userDefaults setInteger:i forKey:kNewIndex]; if (oldnumber == newnumber) { NSLog(@"they are the same"); [userDefaults setInteger:arc4random()%[jokeArray count] forKey:kNewIndex]; } [jokeLabel setText:[jokeArray objectAtIndex:[userDefaults integerForKey:kNewIndex]]]; } }
