  • Change the state of a customized button (button with an image)?

    - by Harry Pham
    I know how to change the state of the regular button, as well as change the background color of a regular button. However, what I have is a image lay on top of a button (customized button). I want, when the user click on it, something visually would happen to let the user know that button is selected, and when the user click again it go back to the regular state. I try to change the background of the button, but it doesnt work since the image kind of cover the button. Any idea?

  • CLLocationManager class method not calling in iPodTouch

    - by Siddharth
    HI all, I was using a sample code which uses CLLocationManager class to determine the current location of user. when i run this app on iPad i am getting the correct location but when i run the same app on iPod Touch i am getting a blank label i.e nothing is displayed on the label .although wi-fi signal strength is good in both iPod and iPad.The code looks like... - (void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation{ int degrees = newLocation.coordinate.latitude; double decimal = fabs(newLocation.coordinate.latitude - degrees); int minutes = decimal * 60; double seconds = decimal * 3600 - minutes * 60; NSString *lat = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d° %d' %1.4f\"", degrees, minutes, seconds]; latLabel.text = lat; [latLocationArray addObject:lat]; degrees = newLocation.coordinate.longitude; decimal = fabs(newLocation.coordinate.longitude - degrees); minutes = decimal * 60; seconds = decimal * 3600 - minutes * 60; NSString *longt = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d° %d' %1.4f\"", degrees, minutes, seconds]; longLabel.text = longt; [longLocationArray addObject:longt]; }

  • Subclass not seeing superclass' instance variable

    - by hyn
    I have a situation where my subclass is not seeing the superclass' instance variable x. The ivar is obviously @protected by default, so why do I get a compiler error "x undeclared"? If I make this ivar a property then I can access it by self.x. What's worse is sometimes the error disappears, so something in my code is obviously causing this error but I cannot figure it out.

  • How to convert Unicode strings (\u00e2, etc) into NSString for display?

    - by karlbecker_com
    I am trying to support arbitrary unicode from a variety of international users. They have already put a bunch of data into sqlite databases on their iPhones, and now I want to capture the data into a database, then send it back to their device. Right now I am using a php page that is sending data back to from an internet mysql database. The data is saved in the mysql database properly, but when it's sent back it comes out as unicode text, such as Frank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s iPad instead of just Frank's iPad where the apostrophe should really be a curly apostrophe. The answer posted to another question indicates that there is no built-in Cocoa methods to convert the "\u00e2\u0080\u0099" portion of the unicode string from the webserver to an NSString object. Is this correct? That seems really surprising (and scarily disappointing), since Cocoa definitely allows input from many different Unicode characters, and I need to support any arbitrary language that I have never heard of, and all of the possible characters. I save them to and from the local sqlite database just fine now, but once I send it to a web server, then perhaps pull down different data, I want to ensure the data pulled from the web server is correctly formatted.

  • iPhone: Error when using -(id)initWithNibName

    - by Nic Hubbard
    I am trying to use the following code, but I always get an error that I can find little information about: - (id)initWithNibName:@"MyRidesListView" bundle:nil { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:@"MyRidesListView" bundle:nil])) { // Custom initialization } return self; } Error: expected identifier before 'OBJC_STRING' token This seems like a simple method to be calling. This is for a UINavigationController. Ideas?

  • Disable animation when moving CALayers

    - by Sean Clark Hess
    The following code animates the movement, even though I didn't use beginAnimations:context. How do I get it to move without animating? This is a new iphone view project, and these are the only updates to it. // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; sublayer = [CALayer new]; sublayer.backgroundColor = [[UIColor redColor] CGColor]; sublayer.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 100, 100); [self.view.layer addSublayer:sublayer]; } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { sublayer.position = [[touches anyObject] locationInView:self.view]; }

  • Optimal pixel format for drawing on iPhone?

    - by Felixyz
    Pretty simple question: when doing some pretty intense drawing with CoreGraphics on the iPhone, how can I specify the pixel format to get optimal performance? Is the format that I get from the context via UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext per definition the best one? I know that RGB565 is supposed to be the fastest to use in OpenGL. Does that go for CoreGraphics as well? General advice?

  • UITableView : detecting click on '-' button in edit mode

    - by synthez84
    Hi all, On my iphone app, I have a UITableView in edit mode, containing custom UITableViewCell. I would like to detect when user has clicked on the left button of each cell (minus circular red button, the one that is animated with a rotation), just before the "Delete" button appears. I would like to be able to change my cell content in that case... Is that possible ? Thanks !

  • Retrieving NSDate from NSString

    - by Olivier de Jonge
    I have an iPhone app. that is receiving data with IRFC 3339 timestamp format (e.g. @"2010-01-29T11:30:00.000+01:00"), as in GData. I want to convert the data to an NSDate NSDateFormatter *inputFormatter = [[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [inputFormatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS"]; [currentEntry setStartTime:[inputFormatter dateFromString: ][currentEntry startTimeString]]]; But I'm missing out how to convert the last part of the string @"2010-01-29T11:30:00.000+01:00": the time offset. Anyone knows what I have to add to this String to take the time offset in account too?

  • how to update UI controls in cocoa application from background thread

    - by AmitSri
    following is .m code: #import "ThreadLabAppDelegate.h" @interface ThreadLabAppDelegate() - (void)processStart; - (void)processCompleted; @end @implementation ThreadLabAppDelegate @synthesize isProcessStarted; - (void)awakeFromNib { //Set levelindicator's maximum value [levelIndicator setMaxValue:1000]; } - (void)dealloc { //Never called while debugging ???? [super dealloc]; } - (IBAction)startProcess:(id)sender { //Set process flag to true self.isProcessStarted=YES; //Start Animation [spinIndicator startAnimation:nil]; //perform selector in background thread [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(processStart) withObject:nil]; } - (IBAction)stopProcess:(id)sender { //Stop Animation [spinIndicator stopAnimation:nil]; //set process flag to false self.isProcessStarted=NO; } - (void)processStart { int counter = 0; while (counter != 1000) { NSLog(@"Counter : %d",counter); //Sleep background thread to reduce CPU usage [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:0.01]; //set the level indicator value to showing progress [levelIndicator setIntValue:counter]; //increment counter counter++; } //Notify main thread for process completed [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(processCompleted) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; } - (void)processCompleted { //Stop Animation [spinIndicator stopAnimation:nil]; //set process flag to false self.isProcessStarted=NO; } @end I need to clear following things as per the above code. How to interrupt/cancel processStart while loop from UI control? I also need to show the counter value in main UI, which i suppose to do with performSelectorOnMainThread and passing argument. Just want to know, is there anyother way to do that? When my app started it is showing 1 thread in Activity Monitor, but when i started the processStart() in background thread its creating two new thread,which makes the total 3 thread until or unless loop get finished.After completing the loop i can see 2 threads. So, my understanding is that, 2 thread created when i called performSelectorInBackground, but what about the thrid thread, from where it got created? What if thread counts get increases on every call of selector.How to control that or my implementation is bad for such kind of requirements? Thanks

  • NSUserDefaults: Saved Number Always 0, iPhone

    - by Stumf
    Hello all, I have looked at other answers and the docs. Maybe I am missing something, or maybe I have another issue. I am trying to save a number on exiting the app, and then when the app is loaded I want to check if this value exists and take action accordingly. This is what I have tried: To save on exiting: - (void)applicationWillTerminate: (UIApplication *) application { double save = [label.text doubleValue]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble: save forKey: @"savedNumber"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] synchronize]; } To check: - (IBAction)buttonclickSkip{ double save = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey: @"savedNumber"]; if (save == 0) { [self performSelector:@selector(displayAlert) withObject:nil]; test.enabled = YES; test.alpha = 1.0; skip.enabled = NO; skip.alpha = 0.0; } else { label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.1f %%", save]; } } The problem is I always get my alert message displayed, the saved value is not put into the label so somehow == 0 is always true. If it makes any difference I am testing this on the iPhone simulator. Many thanks, Stu

  • dealloc on Background Thread

    - by Mark Brackett
    Is it an error to call dealloc on a UIViewController from a background thread? It seems that UITextView (can?) eventually call _WebTryThreadLock which results in: bool _WebTryThreadLock(bool): Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread. Background: I have a subclassed NSOperation that takes a selector and a target object to notify. -(id)initWithTarget:(id)target { if (self = [super init]) { _target = [target retain]; } return self; } -(void)dealloc { [_target release]; [super dealloc]; } If the UIViewController has already been dismissed when the NSOperation gets around to running, then the call to release triggers it's dealloc on a background thread.

  • Scan from last instance of character to end of string using NSScanner

    - by Virgil Disgr4ce
    Given a string such as: "new/path - path/path/03 - filename.ext", how can I use NSScanner (or any other approach) to return the substring from the last "/" to the end of the string, i.e., "03 - filename.ext"? The code I've been trying to start with is: while ([fileScanner isAtEnd] == NO){ slashPresent = [fileScanner scanUpToString:@"/" intoString:NULL]; if (slashPresent == YES) { [fileScanner scanString:@"/" intoString:NULL]; lastPosition = [fileScanner scanLocation]; } NSLog(@"fileScanner position: %d", [fileScanner scanLocation]); NSLog(@"lastPosition: %d", lastPosition); } ...and this results in a seg fault after scanning to the end of the string! I'm not sure why this isn't working. Ideas? Thanks in advance!
