• Cannot get mysql gem to work in Snow Leopard, unable to setup ruby on rails environment

  I am having some serious problems, however this seems to be a common thing. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and here are my other version info: MySQL mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.46, for apple-darwin10.2.0 (i386) using readline 5.1 gem 1.3.6 ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-08 patchlevel 173) [universal-darwin10.0] My problem is that no matter what I do to try and install the mysql gem, i still get the error every time i do rake db:migrate uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes I have installed the mysql gem based on instructions around the web that say to use export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ; sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri mysql -- -v 2.7 --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config This DOES work, as it gives this output: Building native extensions. This could take a while... Successfully installed mysql-2.8.1 1 gem installed Any help would be greatly appreciated

• iPhone Localization: simple project not working

  Hello Im doing my first localized project and I've been fighting with it for several hours with no luck. I have to create an app that, based on the user selection, shows texts and images in different languages. I've read most of Apple's documents on the matter but I cant make a simple example work. This are my steps so far: 1) Create a new project. 2) Manually create a "en.lproj" directory in the projects folder. 3) Using TexEdit create file called "Localizable.strings" and store it in Unicode UTF-16. The file looks like this: /* Localizable.strings Multilanguage02 Created by Gonzalo Floria on 5/6/10. Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. All rights reserved. */ "Hello" = "Hi"; "Goodbye" = "Bye"; 4) I drag this file to the Resources Folder on XCode and it appear with the "subdir" "en" underneath it (with the dropdown triangle to the left). If I try to see it on XCode it looks all wrong, whit lots of ? symbols, but Im guessing thats because its a UTF-16 file. Right? 5) Now on my view did load I can access this strings like this: NSString *translated; translated = NSLocalizedString(@"Hello", @"User greetings"); NSLog(@"Translated text is %@",translated); My problem is allowing the user to switch language. I have create an es.lproj with the Localizable.strings file (in Spanish), but I CANT access it. I've tried this line: [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject: [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"es", nil] forKey:@"AppleLanguages"]; But that only works the NEXT time you load the application. Is there no way to allow the user to switch languages while running the application?? Do I have to implement my own Dictionary files and forget all about NSLocalizableString family? • How to get LastActivityDate when using Active Directory Setup in a .net application

  Hi, I have a requirement to show a list of all users along with the Last Activity Date. The application is .Net based. I found the MemberShip class provides the Last Activity date. However, this does not work when the MemberShip provider is ActiveDirectory Link to MSDN page because the ActiveDirectoryMemberShipUser does not implement the LastActivityDate property. Is there any workaround or other way, I can get the LastActivityDate of the user in the application. Thanks for any info

• Printer setup via VBA in Excel

  I am trying to assign a cell in Excel for the user to type the printer name where they want the print out to go and then use that value in the Application.ActivePrinter = (use the cell value) Even though I have done the programming assigning a name to the cell and using it in a variable it is giving me an error. I have set my variable as string, text, object and variant already and it's not working. Do you know what code should I use to be able to do this?

• Where in maven project's path should I put configuration files that are not considered resources

  I have a simple java maven project. One of my classes when executing needs to load an xml configuration file from the classpath. I dont want to package such xml file when producing the jar but I want to include a default xml file in a zip assemply under a conf subfolder and I also want this default xml to be available in the unit tests to test against it. As I see it there are 2 possible places of this default xml: src/main/resources/conf/default.xml src/main/conf/default.xml Both solutions demand special pom actions: In solution 1, I get the auto copy to target folder during build which means it is available in testing but I also get it in the produced jar which i dont want. In solution 2, I get the jar as I want it(free of the xml) but I manually have to copy the xml to the target folder to be available for testing. (I dont want to add src's subfolders in test classpath. I think it is bad practice). The question is what is the best solution of the two? If the correct is 2, what is the best way to copy it to target folder? Is there any other solution better and more common than those two? (I also read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/465001/where-should-i-put-application-configuration-files-for-a-maven-project but I would like to know the most "correct solution" from the "convention over configuration" point of view and this link provides some configuration type solutions but not any convention oriented. Maybe there isnt one but I ask anyway. Also the solutions provided include AntRun plugin and appAssembler plugin and I wonder if I could do it with out them.)

  Using SharpDevelop, I wrote a windows service with a WIX setup project to install/auto-start it. For testing purposes, I've done a number of things I don't want to do in the release version (i.e. add an uninstall shortcut to the desktop). So, my question really boils down to this; how do you handle build configurations within a WiX project? I think I've solved most of my problems after I found this question Passing build parameters to .wxs file to dynamicaly build wix installers. And thus far I've done the following: Added a property that checks the Configuration variable <Product> ... <Property Id="DEBUG">$(var.Configuration) == 'Debug'</Property> ... Separated all of the debug files into unique components and setup as a separate feature with a condition checking the DEBUG property. <Product> ... <Feature> ... <Feature Id="DebugFiles" Level="1"> <ComponentRef Id="UninstallShortcutComponent" /> <Condition Level="0">DEBUG</Condition> </Feature> ... Then, finally, pointing to the correct file based on the configuration, using the Configuration variable <Directory> ... <Component> <File Source="..\mainProject\bin\$(var.Configuration)\main.exe" /> </Component> ... So, now my question is simplified to how to handle files that may not exist under certain build configurations (like .pdb files). Using all of the above (including pointing the file source to the ...\bin\Release\*.pdb, which I know isn't expected to exist) I get a LGHT0103 compiler error, it can't find the file.

• A resource for installation or setup folder hierarchy of various applications

  Is there a web site (or something else) that has information on folders and their hierarchy where various programs and applications are installed? Please let me explain. I am writing an application that (part of what it does) references certain files installed by other application. To be able to determine the file paths for these folders I have to download and install each application seperatly on my development pc, search for the file I want, and then write its path in my application. This method is very time consuming and, frankly, boring, as it requires downloading and installing each application (some of them in excess of 600MB) and then locating the required file just to be able to "know" its path. So, I was wondering if there is something that could speed things up. like, for example, a website that would have such information. I tried each of the applications own website for information but no dice. Any help from you will be much appreciated. Many thanks

  Hi all, I'm parsing an OBJ-file in Android and my goal is to render & display the object. Everything works fine except the correct texture mapping (importing the resource/image into opengl etc works fine). I don't know how to populate the texture related data from the obj-file into an texturebuffer-object. I sent an e-mail asking to become a contributor to the listed project manager last week but still haven't received a response. The project is licensed under the GNU GPL v2. I would like to contribute to the current project but that doesn't appear to be possible. Can I modify the current source version of the project and release this modified project? I would keep the same license on the modified project.

• Visual Studio project remains "stuck" when stopped

  Hi, Currently developing a connector DLL to HP's Quality Center. I'm using their (insert expelative) COM API to connect to the server. An Interop wrapper gets created automatically by VStudio. My solution has 2 projects: the DLL and a tester application - essentially a form with buttons that call functions in the DLL. Everything works well - I can create defects, update them and delete them. When I close the main form, the application stops nicely. But when I call a function that returns a list of all available projects (to fill a combo box), if I close the main form, VStudio still shows the solution as running and I have to stop it. I've managed to pinpoint a single function in my code that when I call, the solution remains "hung" and if I don't, it closes well. It's a call to a property in the TDC object get_VisibleProjects that returns a List (not the .Net one, but a type in the COM library) - I just iterate over it and return a proper list (that I later use to fill the combo box): public List<string> GetAvailableProjects() { List<string> projects = new List<string>(); foreach (string project in this.tdc.get_VisibleProjects(qcDomain)) { projects.Add(project); } return projects; } My assumption is that something gets retained in memory. If I run the EXE outside of VStudio it closes - but who knows what gets left behind in memory? My question is - how do I get rid of whatever calling this property returns? Shouldn't the GC handle this? Do I need to delve into pointers? Things I've tried: getting the list into a variable and setting it to null at the end of the function Adding a destructor to the class and nulling the tdc object Stepping through the tester function application all the way out, whne the form closes and the Main function ends - it closes, but VStudio still shows I'm running. • Why does adding a reference to project targeting .NET Framework 4.0 fail?

  We have two projects that are both class libraries. Project 1 is a VS 2008 project and targets the .NET Framework 3.5. Project 2 is a VS 2010 (release candidate) project that targets the .NET Framework 4.0. When I try to add a reference to Project 2 in Project 1, it fails with a less than informative error message. I know that if I change the target Framework for Project 2 to 3.5, then adding the reference will work. My question is, if I don't change the target frameworks, but convert Project 1 to VS 2010, will the referencing work? Stated another way, is there some inherent incompatiblity between class libraries targeting different framework versions, or is it failing for me because VS 2008 doesn't know about the 4.0 framework?

• Core Data and BOOL setup

  I am working on an app that uses Core Data as its backend for managing SQLite records. I have everything working with strings and numbers, but have just tried adding BOOL fields and can't seem to get things to work. In the .xcdatamodel, I have added a field to my object called isCurrentlyForSale which is not Optional, not Transient, and not Indexed. The attribute's type is set to Boolean with default value NO. When I created the class files from the data model, the boilerplate code added for this property in the .h header was: @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * isCurrentlyForSale; along with the @dynamic isCurrentlyForSale; in the .m implementation file. I've always worked with booleans as simple BOOLs. I've read that I could use NSNumber's numberWithBool and boolValue methods, but this seems like an aweful lot of extra code for something so simple. Can the @property in the header be changed to a simple BOOL? If so is there anything to watch out for? Thanks -John

• Servlet doPost() Method setup?

  I am interested in creating a web app that uses JSP, Servlets and XML. At the moment I have the following: JSP - Form input. Servlet - Retrieving Form data and sending that data to a java object. Java object (1) - Converts data into XML file....instantiates java object (2). Java object (2) - Sends that file to a database. On the returning side the database will send back another XML file that I will then process using XSLT to display back to the user. Can I place that XSLT code in the orignial Servlets doPost() method? So my doPost()` method would: Retrieve user inputted data from the form on my JSP page. Instantiate a java object to convert that data to XML, in-turn that object will instantiates another object to send the XML file to a database. Converts the resulting XML file sent from the database and displays it for the user. Can one servlet doPost() method handle all of this? If not, how would I set up my application and classes to handle this work flow? Thank you in advance

  I have a problem, I need to sync version of the project. Changes are performed on main project that resides on central Coldfusion server. There are about 30 remote Coldfusion servers, that has to sync with latest version on central server. New synch application will to be done in Java! I have a direct link to each remote location. Mostly Windows OS and Windows tools are used. My idea: The synchronization is performed at the level of synchronization of folders. I would like to avoid the use of SVN and similar tools. My idea is to carry out comparison of folders on the local server (comparison is performed between the old and new versions),with NO communication with remote servers, make the difference between the versions and the same is sent to the remote machines. We will install Tomcat on every remote server. "Sync application" deployed on Tomcat will take care about differences. Remote server will return me an answer, about the success of the sync. • C# Interop.Word Adding an Image from project resource folder

  Hi guys. Having some image problem with Interop.Word and C#. I want to add an image in the header of the document that I am going to generate. I have this code working perfectly section.Headers[Word.WdHeaderFooterIndex.wdHeaderFooterPrimary].Shapes.AddPicture(@"C:\Logo.jpg", ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x); Problem is that I can't have "C:\Logo.jpg" in the code since after publishing the project, there would most probably be no Logo.jpg in the C folder of the user. The image is already in my project's resource folder. I've used Image.FromFile("Logo.jpg") before but .AddPicture requires a string and not an image. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. • In Rails, a Sweeper isn't getting called in a Model-only setup

  I'm working on a Rails app, where I'm using page caching to store static html output. The caching works fine. I'm having trouble expiring the caches, though. I believe my problem is, in part, because I'm not expiring the cache from my controller. All of the actions necessary for this are being handled within the model. This seems like it should be doable, but all of the references to Model-based cache expiration that I'm finding seem to be out of date, or are otherwise not working. In my environment.rb file, I'm calling config.load_paths += %W( #{RAILS_ROOT}/app/sweepers ) And I have, in the /sweepers folder, a LinkSweeper file: class LinkSweeper < ActionController::Caching::Sweeper observe Link def after_update(link) clear_links_cache(link) end def clear_links_cache(link) # expire_page :controller => 'links', :action => 'show', :md5 => link.md5 expire_page '/l/'+ link.md5 + '.html' end end So ... why isn't it deleting the cached page when I update the model? (Process: using script/console, I'm selecting items from the database and saving them, but their corresponding pages aren't deleting from the cache), and I'm also calling the specific method in the Link model that would normally invoke the sweeper. Neither works. If it matters, the cached file is an md5 hash off a key value in the Links table. The cached page is getting stored as something like /l/45ed4aade64d427...99919cba2bd90f.html. Essentially, it seems as though the Sweeper isn't actually observing the Link. I also read (here) that it might be possible to simply add the sweeper to config.active_record.observers in environment.rb, but that didn't seem to do it (and I wasn't sure if the load_path of app/sweepers in environment.rb obviated that).

Im initiating it in the above MyApp and passing references all the way in to my runnable: class Connection implements Runnable { My question is what will happen if there are two simultaneous read or `write? My thought here was the all methods in the singleton are synchronized and would put all calls in the queue waiting to get a lock on the synchronized method.
