• loading files in prolog

  hey guys, am a bit of a newbie in Prolog. And am going thru this tutorial on line and it is telling me i can load other prolog files by typing: [filename]. but ever time I try this am getting ERROR: load_files/2: Arguments are not sufficiently instantiated. What am i doing wrong? P.S. the file is in the same directory as the one am working in. and here is a copy of the entire query and error. 12 ?- [KB5].   Hi people, I'm in final year of my degree and it is required that i do a final year project. I have decided to do something on adaptive websites that implements customisation, personalisation and basically adaptation via heat maps and weblogs. So for a prototype i would be designing a website for tertairy level students and see if these technologies improve the usbability of the site. i would model it after my school's website. So here's the question, What would be a better language to use.. i have some knowledge in struts 2 framework and some knowledge in php. could say a newbie at both.. so i was wondering what would be the easier and faster way to go. php or the struts2 framework? thanks.

• K&R Exercise 1-21 - Mental incomprehension.

  The "impossible" K&R exercise. "Write a program entab that replaces strings of blanks by the minimum number of tabs and blanks to achieve the same spacing. Use the same tab stops, say every n columns. Should n be a variable or a symbolic parameter?" The problem I'm having is, I'm unsure about how to even do this correctly. I know it's not very explanatory, but that's pretty much the problem here. Most of the examples I've seen have counted a number of blanks, and replaced those series with a tab, but this isn't what its asking, I reckon I understand what its asking, but currently feel unable to do this. Could anyone help :)

• ajax/jquery disables links after submit

  i am working on this form. i am using lightbox and dhtml fade effects. the content in my lightbox is a form. i am using jquery to validate the form. once the form is submitted, i redirect a user back to a thank you page. what i am noticing is that, once all the above events has taken place, i cannot click anywhere on my screen, all the links/buttons are sort of disable. i need to press F5 to refresh the page to be able to click anywhere on the page again? is this happening because i am using jquery validation and an events already took place, how do i resolve this as i am a newbie to jquery. thanks

  I'm pretty much a newbie at php (at the "install an app and try to tweak it a bit" stage). Is there a tool anywhere which can take a script which is spread over many files and show you all the code which is processed (for a given set of arguments passed to the script) in a single output? For example, I want to make a call to zen cart from a script in a different language, which returns a category listing without any surrounding page. So I want to be able to trace what the actual process is to generate that then strip off all the unwanted bits to create a custom script.

• Looking to eventually build a smartphone app...

  Hi all- I'm a young, inexperienced programmer (I've had a year of Java, some MATLAB, and HTML/CSS in school) but I've decided that to get better, I'm making it my goal to produce a simple smartphone app of some kind this year- probably either webOS or Android since I'm on a PC and can't afford a Mac just to write an iPhone app. So my question is, where do I start? I've read the threads about How to Write for Android and such, but I'm not sure I have enough Java experience to just jump right in. And then there's webOS which is based on JavaScript, correct? I guess I'd just like some input from more experienced folks. I have some Barnes and Noble book credit I'm looking to get rid of too, so if there's a guide you think would be useful, feel free to request. tl;dr: Programming newbie ultimately wants to build a simple smartphone app. Where do I start?

  i have a table like this: StockNumber|InventoryName|Year|Month|Adj|iss|piss|Tsfr|return|rdj|rpo|xefr alb001 clinic1 2010 1 4 5 5 5 6 5 4 10 alb001 Clinic1 2010 2 10 2 2 3 3 4 4 4 alb001 Clinic1 2010 4 11 3 5 77 90 78 9 6 alb001 Clinic1 2010 5 10 2 2 3 3 4 4 4 i want to add a closing balance column which will be sum(return+rdj+rpo+xefr) - sum(adj+iss+piss+tsfr) i also want to add the opening balance column which will be the be the closing balance of the previous month. i will then calculate the current months balance as OpeningBalance + sum(return+rdj+rpo+xefr) - sum(adj+iss+piss+tsfr) = ClosingBalance NB.The Year and Month columns are floats and also want to change them to date format. i am newbie to sql and crystal reports....i want a query to help me achieve the tasks of developing a report that has the opening and closing balance columns,the opening balance being the previous closing balance.....thank you for your help....

• Integer output in Java method not same as pre-converted char value.

  I'm trying to parse a simple text file in an integer method and then output an integer from such file so that other parts of the program can use it. For testing purposes it also displays the character value (9 in this case). The integer value for some reason is 57. I've also tried it with another part of the text file (which in that case should be 5, but is instead 53). After looking at an ASCII chart, I see that 57 is the ASCII version of the "symbol" 9 and that 53 is the ASCII version of the "symbol" 5. Is there any simple way I can fix this? I'm getting kind of frustrated as I'm a Java newbie (I've mostly only used FreePascal before this).

• Another question about ASP.NET MVC and a separate project for helper classes

  I know this topic has been discussed to death, but there is one thing that I can't wrap my head around. I'm working on a Web Application using ASP.NET MVC and I come across a scenario where I need a helper class (this usually happens in the early stages of development. So I go ahead and create a helper project in my solution that I use to manage all of my Helper Classes. Now, do I have to build that project and dump the dll in the bin directory every time I make changes to is, or is there a way to have the main web application reference the classes contained within the separate project without the separate build process? I'm just looking for the easiest way to add helper classes without the hastel of building and moving the dll every time I make a change or addition. Also, sorry for the very newbie-esque question here. All of the web apps I've build in the past have all been in the same project (web forms, App_Code, etc).

• Asp.net Site on GoDaddy Loads Slowly

  I just published a very small site to GoDaddy that I programmed in Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008. The site only contains 6 sheets, none of which are data intensive. Each has a few small images that serve mostly to navigate to the other sheets. There is no data, no SQL, nothing like that. There is one master page that governs the page layout for all of the pages. Everything works fine, for the most part. I am posting because the site loads quite slowly, particularly considering how little content is being loaded. Can anybody give me any advice about what I should look at to speed this thing up a little bit? Is this an asp.net issue? Use of master pages? Godaddy? Something else? I'm a newbie, so speak slowly. • Javascript in chrome plugin has syntax error

• asp classic and javascript to check for session status

  Hey all, i am in need of some help with trying to figure out how to go about checking the users session and seeing if they are still logged in or not. The problem being is because i have a static page that pretty much loads everything into "tabs" using jquery. So when they use navigates the page, it really never leaves that same page they started out on. Hints my problem in trying to determine if they are still logged in or not when they click on update their information on their profile or whatnot. Any suggestions/help would be great! :o) David

  In my opinion WWW will sooner or later come to full-blown AJAX web-sites, so that we wouldn't have page reloads every time you click somewhere. Now I want you to ask this. What tools and frameworks can one use to make a Java Web-application running on Tomcat have AJAX functionality like "in-place, with no page reloading" table sorting by clicking on its column header, multi-tabs that enable opening at once the new screen to the user without reloading a page, saving data in the database without reloading a page, and other similar things that we do not usually see on web pages. That's all should probably be based on AJAX. But how to integrate this AJAX functionality with existing java web-frameworks, let's say Spring MVC? Or maybe there are other frameworks that better suit such needs but that can be integrated with core Spring?

• Set Pivot Items from Cell Range? Excel 2007

  I have developed code which identifies the multiple item selections from a Pivot field and writes the list of items to a table. I then wish to take this contents of the list and use it to populate a number of other Pivot Tables on other tabs. I currently have the ability to do this for single Pivot items selections, but I need to do this for multiple selections. If I select multiple items in the Pivot Table and attempt to pass these selections to the other Pivot Tables it creates an error because it sees only hte text "Multiple Items" instead of a list of each item that was checked in the upstream Pivot field. I need some VBA code that allows me to use the list to set another Pivot Field's selections. All the Pivot fields in question here are page fields. I am using Excel 2007. Any help is appreciated. • Problem with displaying graphs on a Qt canvas

  Let's say I'm a Qt newbie. I want a good Qt library for displaying simple graphs. I've found the quanava library. But there is a problem. When I compiled a basic example it looks like graph edges are not painted properly when moving nodes. I don't have any idea where is a bug but this code seems to be rather simple. I think this is a problem with paint method in NodeItem class. Maybe someone has already solved this problem because this library is quite popular.

  I sometimes find myself discussing this issue with other C# developers and especially if we use different styles. I can see the advantage of tab indentation allowing different developers to browse the code with their favorite indent size. Nonetheless, I long ago went for two space indentation in my C# code and have stuck with it ever since. Mainly because I often disliked the way statements spanning multiple lines are sometimes messed up when viewing code from other developers using another tab size. Recently a developer at one of my clients approached me and asked why I did not use tabs because he preferred to view code with an indentation size of 4. So my question is: Which style do you prefer and why?

  Hi, I have all written code and i want to this code standarise by php code sniffer. I would like to know what is the best way to start with it . I had installed it but when i run the command phpcs /path/to/code/myfile.php in the command line i got the last one hundered line error from 310 to 410 . but if i want to see the starting errors of any line error how can i see that . Mostly errors are 322 | ERROR | Spaces must be used to indent lines; tabs are not allowed 322 | ERROR | Line indented incorrectly; expected at least 8 spaces, found 2 How can i solve these things easily and in future it don't repeat , what it saying that i should not use tab , and use space , by using space it will take time . and how can i start with basic standard ,because don't want to utilise more time in this right now. Still trying to get my head round layouts in a non-html world and was wondering how to achieve the following.... 1) I'd like to set a tiled background to fill the screen behind the whole activity 2) I'd like to place a graphic and a button underneath it centred in the middle of the screen. 3) When the user clicks the button I'd like to start a new activity and presumably I have to do something to the current activity so the user can use the back button to get back to it. As of now, I've started learning XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, and mySQL, but with so many combinations, I want to plan ahead to have a marketable combination of skills as early on as possible.
